Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, apologized to the state's Jewish Democratic Caucus on Saturday for comments he made after an attack on a synagogue in March, which he tied to Israel's actions in the Middle East.
"My comments may have been misconstrued to justify something I did not mean to justify," El-Sayed told reporters after he addressed the caucus at a party convention in Lansing. "To anyone who feels like my comments might have been hurtful, I'm really sorry. That was not my intention."

In March, a man attacked Temple Israel synagogue in a Detroit suburb, ramming his car into the building and opening fire on a security guard before dying by suicide. The man, Ayman Mohammad Ghazali, had lost four relatives in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon the week prior.
In a video response at the time, El-Sayed condemned the attack and added that "hurt people hurt people," a reference to what happened to Ghazali's family. Critics accused El-Sayed of justifying Ghazali's actions.

Indianapolis has traded a 2027 sixth-rounder to Buffalo to get Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Van Pran-Granger, a 2024 fifth-round pick out of Georgia, has spent the last two seasons as Buffalo's backup center, making one start in each of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Last week, Denver Broncos head coach went scorched earth on FS1's Geoff Schwartz for his Bo Nix take on First Things First. After a few days of reflection, Payton addressed the situation once and for all after the Broncos' final preseason game, a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.

Playing "winning football" sounds vague on the surface, and heading into Mike Elko's third season at the helm, it's clear that the program is in the right direction, but back-to-back losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff were the antithesis of what we saw throughout the 2025 season.
This starts and ends with redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw four of his career-high twelve interceptions in both losses while seemingly playing with less confidence compared to his past performances, resulting in poor decision-making; former OC Collin Klein's decision to use fewer RPO looks and keep Reed in the pocket also deserves some blame.
Under first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, the expectation is that Marcel Reed will return to utilizing his dual-threat skill set more often, getting outside the pocket, especially on play action where he has thrived since becoming the full-time starter. Equipped with one of the best wide receiver rooms in the country, Reed's improvement this preseason should lead to another jump in consistent play.
However, the defense allowed nearly 400 rushing yards against Texas and Miami last season, a huge contributing factor in both losses that wasn't based on personnel, aside from a lack of size at linebacker, which has been addressed this offseason.
During Thursday's press conference, Mike Elko said taking another step toward making "winning plays" in key moments has been a clear focus, starting with finishing strong every practice, while his team's mental makeup will be tested throughout the nine-game SEC schedule.

The PGA Tour finally pulled the trigger on a massive overhaul for its season finale. After years of sticking to the same starting-strokes format at East Lake, the circuit is shifting to a two-week match play event. We're seeing a complete reinvention of how the season ends, not just a tweak. The changes kick in for the 2028 season. Fans who love the drama of head-to-head golf now have a reason to tune in for the final two weeks of the year.
The new structure breaks the final event into two distinct parts. The first week features a group stage, according to Golf Monthly. Thirty-two players will split into eight groups of four. They will play three rounds of stroke play within their groups. The top two from each group move on. Week two shifts to pure match play. This format hasn't been seen on the PGA Tour since the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Brian Rolapp, the PGA Tour CEO, addressed the media ahead of the current Tour Championship to clarify the path forward. He noted that the current model is just the start of a broader evolution.
The goal is to create more excitement and higher stakes. The season-long points list will still determine who qualifies. The top 32 on that list earn their spot in the finale. But the way they compete will be totally different. The top 90 players on the points list will still retain their cards, but only the elite 32 get to fight for the trophy in this new way.
For years, East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta has been the only home for the Tour Championship. That ends in 2028. The tournament will now rotate between prestigious venues. The Tour has promised to include courses that the modern circuit hasn't traditionally been able to feature. This opens up the door for historic layouts to host the finale. Rolapp confirmed that conversations are already underway to secure these new locations. He told reporters that East Lake is still a strong option for the future, but it won't hold a monopoly anymore.
East Lake remains among the options being considered for upcoming Tour Championship events. This flexibility allows the Tour to bring the championship to different markets and fan bases. It also adds a layer of novelty that the starting-strokes format lacked. The rotation ensures that the final event feels like a grand tour rather than a local fixture.

Williams team principal James Vowles has admitted the Grove outfit must shoulder some of the blame for the late-race collision between Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz at the Dutch Grand Prix.
During a chaotic race at Zandvoort, won by McLaren's Lando Norris, the two Williams drivers came together on track while battling outside the points-paying positions.
Speaking in the team's post-race video debrief, The Vowles Verdict, the Williams boss addressed the frustrating incident.

A day after the news of Dolly Parton's death broke, the president of Dollywood gave an update on the Tennessee theme park. Co-owned by Herschend and Dolly Parton Productions, the theme park welcomes roughly four million guests every season. With Parton's passing, many fans questioned the park's future, and its president has put them all at ease.
On August 26, Dollywood's official Instagram page shared an emotional video from president Eugene Naughton. "This is a really heavy day for all of us here at Dollywood Parks and Resorts," he said. "We've been dealing with the news of our Dreamer in Chief passing, and I want to speak directly to you to make sure you realize that she's alive and well here."
Naughton addressed fans' concerns about any potential changes to the park. He said, "I know a lot of people are concerned that things are going to change without Dolly being present here, and I want to **** ure you that it's not. Just know that we're all going to keep her alive here." Growing emotional, he encouraged fans to keep the legendary country musician's legacy alive in her absence.
"We're all humans, so I ask everyone to just remember that," he said. "And to honor how she would treat others; show kindness. Don't be afraid to love big. Don't be afraid to dream big. CNN has apologized for mistakenly airing a photo of a Dolly Parton impersonator while covering the death of the "Queen of Country."
During the 11 p.m. ET hour of the Aug. 25 evening broadcast of "Laura Coates Live," a photo meant to show Parton, who died the same day at age 80, was actually of Las Vegas entertainer Kelly Vohnn.
The photo that aired during the segment was taken by Getty Images on Dec. 16, 2025, when the tribute artist attended a special screening of the "Song Sung Blue" movie at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
"We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family," CNN said in a statement shared with Variety and the New York Post.
Vohnn addressed the mix-up in an interview with the New York Post, where she said "I started getting all these texts in from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn't believe it."

The fallout from owner Jed York's arrest continues to hang over the San Francisco 49ers, but NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco doesn't believe it will cost the York family the franchise.
York was charged with two misdemeanors — disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools — after responding to an undercover ad on what was described as a known prostitution website. He received a two-day jail sentence and a $1,150 fine. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed at the league's preseason owners' meeting that the incident is being reviewed under the personal conduct policy. York did not attend the meeting, a decision that wasn't surprising given how recent the arrest was.
Speaking on KNBR, Maiocco addressed the inevitable speculation about a forced sale directly, pointing to how deliberately the York family structured its ownership just two years ago.
"I can't see that. Jed bought equity from his mom in order to become the principal owner. Yes, the 49ers raised a lot of money by selling off around 9.7% of the organization, but when they transferred ownership officially over to Jed as the principal owner, the idea was this was a move made to ensure that it remained in the family," Maiocco said. "I would imagine the long-term plan is for Jed to hand it over to one of his sons or keep it in the family. I don't think this [arrest] will impact that. I think that there will be some discipline by commissioner Roger Goodell. I think it can happen sooner rather than later because the legal process has run its course. I would expect a fine and even a suspension, where he has to stay away from the team for a certain amount of time."
York became the 49ers' principal owner in March 2024, purchasing additional equity from his family specifically to formalize what had effectively been his role since taking over as CEO in 2010. At the time, York did frame the move as a long-term succession plan, saying it was "reflective of how we've operated" and intended to keep the team "in our family for generations to come." His mother, Denise DeBartolo York, and father, Dr. John York, remained co-chairs.

Fiscal policy is also a looking constraining. While Treasury attempts to stabilize long term yields by expanding its existing bond buyback programs, practices to support aggressive Treasury borrowing, have come back into the spotlight and prompted some to ask whether there is a real threat of "fiscal dominance" for a central bank. That is a theme that will almost definitely be addressed at Jackson Hole along with inflation and Fed independence.
The Euro, on the other hand, has a clearer and more pressing monetary policy environment. ECB Executive Board member, Schnabel, said that current policy remains accommodative and that rates will need to be raised higher in order to return inflation to target in a sustainable manner. ThisW applies especially in the current environment with elevated energy prices and re-enforces market expectations for a September rate hike.
Sterling is one currency impacted by the current divergence in narrowing policies. Even while inflation in the UK remains unacceptably high, growth has surprised to the upside, leaving the market not pricing aggressive easing. However, strong labor market conditions makes fast hiking a policy option.
For 26 August, the primary FX theme is uncertainty in U.S. inflation and Fed Policy versus clearer expectations for Euro zone rates, with PCE and the Jackson Hole summary by Richard Clarida and John C. Williams, the likely new Fed Vice Chair, as the likely dominant topics.
