LONDON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - The Bank of England raised interest rates for the first time in over three years on Thursday and warned that at least one more increase was likely if the US-Iran conflict continues, as it started on a path that its main peers have already embarked on.
British inflation ‌is likely to reach around 5% in the middle of next year, the BoE said, more than double the central bank's target and a blow for new Prime Minister Andy Burnham ‌who has sought to ease cost of living pressures.
While there was little evidence so far of faster inflation outside sectors directly affected by higher energy costs, the BoE said the amount of inflation pressure coming down the road from months of high energy prices required a rate rise now.
"Today's increase shouldn't be seen as the first in an inevitable long sequence of hikes. But unless the conflict in the Middle East is resolved, neither does it seem likely to be the last increase," Governor Andrew Bailey said.

Social Security benefits are a critical income source for most older Americans. In fact, 67% of older adults (1) aged 65 get over half their income from their benefits. That's why it's so important not to do anything that could inadvertently reduce the amount you collect.
Unfortunately, when planning your retirement, you may make a move that costs you some of this money without even knowing it. Specifically, choosing to spend your retirement in one of the following eight U.S. states means that you risk losing a percentage of your benefits every year.

Jim Cramer thinks investors have gone too far.
As the tech slump dragged into a new week, the CNBC host said in a post on X that the negativity around Marvell, Apple, and Palantir "is pretty thick," adding, "No matter what they say, it isn't enough."
He made the remark as all three stocks slid on Nov. 2.
His comments landed in a rough market. Chip and memory stocks have lost about $3.7 trillion in market value since Oct. 6, and Intel suffered its worst day since 1974 on Oct. 30, falling nearly 29% after a disappointing forecast.
The chip group shed more than $400 billion on Nov. 2 alone, as reported by Yahoo Finance. In a market this nervous, even good news is getting sold.

Warren Buffett's 90/10 mix of an S&P 500 fund and Treasury bills gives a 65-year-old with $600,000 about $4,800 monthly alongside Social Security.
Senior deductions and Social Security's partial taxation shrink the federal bill to roughly $1,000 a year, under 2% of spending.
Required withdrawals at 73 will raise taxes, so Roth conversions in the years before then and protecting the bond cushion keep the plan working.

Warren Buffett has told the world exactly how he wants his wife's money invested after he is gone. In his 2013 letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders he wrote that his advice to the trustee "could not be more simple": put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund. People who pursue a FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) philosophy aggressively save and invest with a goal of retiring young enough to enjoy the freedom that a substantial nest egg affords. A fatFIRE adherent aims to accumulate a seven- or eight-figure retirement portfolio, enabling a lifestyle that ordinary early retirement budgets cannot support. When a couple's in-laws share those fatFIRE values, the relationship tends to run smoothly. But good intentions packaged as sizable financial gifts can shift that balance quickly, and without diplomacy and a shared strategy, even a generous offer can quietly fracture family dynamics.

Gemma Chan continues to impress on the Josephine press tour, with two Burberry looks that couldn't be more different.
Maarten De Boer/Getty Images
Gemma's Burberry Spring 2027 floral silk taffeta dress almost felt like a take on the label's signature trench coat.
Between the epaulettes, belted waist and ******* on-front design, the trench coat references were unmistakable, but the delicate floral embroidery and softly gathered neckline gave the familiar silhouette a dressier feel.
I particularly like how Gemma rolled up the sleeves and opted for ivory pointed-toe pumps, which worked beautifully with the soft grey tone of the dress. This was a charming daytime look.

Hunter Schafer attended the WIRED World Fair in Miami on Wednesday, where she took part in a panel discussion.
John Parra/Getty Images for WIRED
For an event exploring the intersection of technology, creativity and culture, Hunter's NIHL by Neil Grotzinger Spring 2027 look felt particularly fitting. With her upcoming television series Blade Runner 2099 being her latest project, the futuristic aesthetic also seemed especially relevant, even if this wasn't an official promotional appearance.
The neon-yellow hooded top, covered in intricate floral embellishments, has an almost otherworldly quality, while the contrasting printed skirt adds to the unconventional aesthetic. The combination of traditional decorative techniques and futuristic design makes this an interesting choice for the occasion.
By swapping the runway's chunky boots for lilac pumps, she gave the outfit a more feminine feel while keeping its unconventional appeal.

Princess Diana remains one of the most influential royal style figures decades after her death. From glamorous evening gowns to casual sweatshirts, her clothes attracted enormous attention and often carried meanings that went far beyond fashion. Few pieces illustrate that fascination better than her famous red Black Sheep sweater, featuring rows of white sheep and a single black one standing apart from the flock.
Diana first wore the Warm & Wonderful sweater in 1981, shortly after her engagement to Prince Charles. The playful design quickly attracted attention, particularly because the lone black sheep invited interpretations about Diana's own position within royal life. Those interpretations remain speculative, but there is clear evidence that she valued the garment. After the original sweater was damaged, Buckingham Palace contacted the designers seeking a repair or replacement. Diana later appeared publicly in the replacement.
Years later, the original sweater was rediscovered and offered at auction through Sotheby's in 2023. Before the sale, it carried an estimate of $50,000 to $80,000. Its significance came from more than Diana simply having worn it. The accompanying correspondence helped establish its history, while photographs of Diana wearing the distinctive design made it instantly recognizable to collectors and royal fashion enthusiasts.
The final result dramatically exceeded expectations. The sweater sold for $1.143 million, including fees, setting a record at the time for an item of clothing worn by Diana at auction. The price also demonstrated how dramatically demand for objects connected with the princess had grown. Other pieces from her wardrobe had already achieved impressive results, including a purple Victor Edelstein evening gown that sold for more than $600,000 earlier in 2023.
Diana's wardrobe continues to attract this level of interest because her clothing became closely connected with her public identity. Early in her royal life, she embraced romantic dresses and traditional silhouettes. Over time, her wardrobe became increasingly confident, incorporating streamlined tailoring, memorable eveningwear and relaxed casual pieces.

For her appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Roberts wore a stunning dress from Monse's Spring/Summer 2027 ready-to-wear collection. The dress featured a delicate ivory base decorated with oversized floral prints in muted pink, purple, and green tones. However, the romantic pattern wasn't the only detail that caught attention.
The dress featured a semi-transparent fabric that revealed the silhouette underneath, giving the otherwise feminine design a daring edge. The fitted silhouette hugged her figure before falling into a flowing midi-length skirt. The dress also had delicate spaghetti straps and an asymmetrical neckline, with a soft fabric detail draped over one shoulder.

Democrats secured control of the Senate on Tuesday, a seismic shift that effectively blocks President Trump's campaign to reshape the Federal Reserve and neutralizes what many ******* ysts viewed as a threat to the central bank's independence.
It also heightens the challenge for Trump should he maneuver to replace any sitting officials.
"Democrats' control of the Senate reclaims the party's ability to approve or deny the President's nominees for judges and heads of other executive branch agencies," Jonathan Pingle, an economist for UBS, wrote in a note. "That includes the need for Democrats to approve any new members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System should one of the existing governors step aside."
That political firewall directly impacts the administration's ongoing effort to remove Fed governor Lisa Cook. Trump fired Cook in August 2025, claiming she committed mortgage fraud by making misrepresentations on loan documents years before her appointment to the central bank. Cook, a Biden appointee, has denied any wrongdoing and sued. The lawsuit has gone through multiple court rungs before reaching the Supreme Court earlier this year.
Last month, Trump established a committee to determine whether her statements constituted legal "cause" for removal from the central bank, signaling that his efforts to oust her are continuing.

An expert has broken down Queen Camilla's beach clean-up moment with King Charles on their Caribbean tour. She arrived over the weekend to join her husband for the final leg in Antigua and Barbuda on November 1, 2026. The monarch began the nine-day tour on his own on October 27, 2026, covering the Bahamas and Guyana before the final leg.
An expert has observed that Queen Camilla looked "uncomfortable" while helping clear a beach in Antigua, even blurting out a quick four-word warning to dodge a painful slip-up. King Charles and Queen Camilla joined local volunteers on the sands of Fort James Beach for the environmental initiative. The Queen opted to take off her shoes and walk barefoot to navigate the shoreline during the task.
However, per the Daily Express, lip-reading specialist Nicola Hickling has warned that walking shoeless amid a busy royal party carries its own risks. On examining the arrival footage, she remarked that Camilla's face was "worth watching here." The comment came as the royal made her way over the sand alongside her husband.
Hickling told the outlet that the Queen looked "slightly uncomfortable" as she abruptly moved away from King Charles. It was "possibly to avoid having her toes trodden on." Amid the clumsy shift, Her Majesty reportedly uttered the striking four-word line: "I must go easy."
The moment, however, passed without incident, and the couple carried on cheerfully. They even playfully crossed their litter pickers like swords, then took turns placing collected rubbish into a black bag. After that, the royal pair listened to Jennifer Meranto, founder and chief executive of Adopt a Coastline. She outlined the crucial effort to safeguard the island's shore. Two of the group's youth ambassadors joined Meranto for the briefing.

Meghan Markle is facing renewed scrutiny following reports that she is preparing to film in Australia. After the **** ss of Sussex and Prince Harry relocated to the UK at the end of August, reports of an upcoming work stint in Australia have led royal commentators to question how the family will manage the transition.
Meghan Markle is set to appear on Junior MasterChef Australia's upcoming season, which will film in Australia in 2027. However, it has not been confirmed whether Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will be joining her. The Sussex children recently changed schools in the UK after their security team raised concerns about their previous commute. The possibility of another move has now prompted questions about how the family's arrangements could work during Meghan's filming commitment.
On The Sun's Royal Exclusive, the **** ss of Sussex was criticized for the possibility of relocating her kids again. "Career-wise for her, it's, you know, it's good news," host Sarah Hewson said. She continued, "What about for the kids who they've just brought over to the UK, got settled in a new school. Is that going to change anything or do we think the kids will be going?" The Sun's royal editor Matt Wilkinson shared his thoughts. "The children thing is a really interesting thing because we know that they've already changed schools once," he said.
Wilkinson added, "They said they were coming back to the UK for the children's schooling. So these are unanswered questions…" The royal editor was unsure whether it would be "an exceptionally long period for Meghan and Harry." He wondered if the Sussexes will take their kids to another school. "Is it going to be another um you know, traffic crisis outside of school in Sydney or Melbourne or something? But yeah, I would really like a little kind of welcome break…," Wilkinson said.
Hewson felt Harry could take the kids for a trip to Australia if it occurs during school days. "[They could] take the kids to go out and see mum while she's working," the royal correspondent explained.

Archival couture rarely looks this playful, and Sienna Miller's minidress proved it by turning heads in Los Angeles with glossy pink satin and a shape that refused to stay simple. The hemline carried plenty of drama, while the back held an even bigger surprise. Pale tones, soft ruffles and a vintage pedigree set the mood for the "Madden" premiere.
Sienna Miller, 44, wore Emanuel Ungaro to the Los Angeles event. According to Check The Tag, the piece comes from the label's Spring/Summer 1992 Couture collection.
The strapless dress skimmed her frame in blush-pink satin. A straight, structured neckline sat above a gathered waist, which gave the fabric a softly ruched finish. Below, a tiered ruffle trimmed the hem and also added movement with every step.
The back of the dress added a touch of fun. A large, bow-like swirl of satin sat at the hip, which turned the short silhouette into something more sculptural. On Miller, the minidress looked playful yet polished, with the volume at the back and the ruffle at the front echoing one another.
The "American Sniper" actress kept her accessories minimal. Pale pink sandals with slim ankle straps kept the palette tonal, while a statement ring added a hint of sparkle. Her blonde hair was pulled into a high, loose ponytail, with a few strands left out to frame her face. Soft, rosy makeup and a pink lip completed the look.

A strong showing by Democrats in Texas swept Gina Hinojosa into office as the state's first Democratic governor since 1990 in a contest closely watched by Big Tech companies.
Texas is considered a bellwether for government restrictions on AI data centers and was just one place where deep voter unease over the build-out was on display. Voters across the country passed a series of local ballot measures aimed at restricting construction in the years ahead.
Hinojosa, Texas's first Latina governor, has pledged to impose a moratorium on data center construction in Texas, which accounts for more than 25% of planned US capacity by 2030.
"I want to say something to the powerful people who have gotten very comfortable running this state," she told supporters in her victory speech. "The voters have delivered a mandate for change, and it is change they will get."
Her victory was one of a series of wins for Democrats in Texas. The party is also on track to take control of the Texas House, which would give Hinojosa more power to follow through on restrictions even as the state Senate appears set to remain under Republican control.

Kim Kardashian knows how to make a statement with her fashion choices, and her latest appearance in Beverly Hills was no exception. The reality star and business mogul stepped out in an all-black ensemble that combined daring details with extravagant luxury. However, it was her exceptionally rare handbag that truly stole the spotlight.
Earlier reported by The Fashion Spot, Kardashian turned heads in a glossy black crocodile-effect jacket that featured a striking, structured silhouette. The fitted piece came with long sleeves, a dramatic collar, and a shiny textured finish that reflected the camera flashes.
The jacket was left partially unzipped at the front, creating a plunging neckline that added a daring touch to the sophisticated outfit.
The jacket also featured a cinched waist that emphasized Kardashian's figure, while its slightly flared hem gave it a more sculptural appearance. She paired the statement piece with opaque black tights.
Kardashian completed her ensemble with pointed-toe black stiletto heels featuring a glossy finish. She styled her signature long, jet-black hair straight with a center part, falling past her shoulders. She opted for her usual glamorous makeup, including defined eyes, sculpted cheeks, and a soft nude lip.

Archaeologists have finally cracked the code to the famed Ann Francis shipwreck’s brass combination treasure lock. However, the 16th century relic didn’t open after hours of painstaking trial-and-error. Researchers at Cardiff University and Amgueddfa Cymru, the National Museum of Wales, relied on highly detailed CT scanning equipment to peer inside the mechanical device and learn the code without touching the lock itself.
“It’s not every day you get to solve a 400-year-old mystery,” David Williams, a Cardiff University biomechanics engineer, said in a statement.
The lock’s combination was lost on December 28, 1583, when the merchant ship Ann Francis sailed into a powerful storm during a return voyage from Spain. The exact crew number is unclear, but all of them (around 14 sailors) reportedly drowned after veering off-course and wrecking along the coast of southern Wales. Unfortunately, at least one other death is likely directly tied to the Ann Francis. Archival evidence suggests locals later accused a “detestable woman” named Mother Gabley of being an “execrable witch” and casting the foul weather responsible for the maritime tragedy. While Mother Gabley’s fate remains unknown, she would have almost certainly been hanged under the recently passed “Act Against Conjurations, Enchantments and Witchcrafts” if brought to trial.
The Ann Francis remained missing for 415 years, until metal detectorist Peter Hughes rediscovered the wreckage while surveying southern Wales’ Margam Beach in 1998. Hughes and archaeologists subsequently spent more than 20 years scouring the area for the ship’s remains. By 2017, preservationists had documented over 800 gold and silver coins from Germany, Spain, and Portugal along with artifacts like compasses, ship equipment, and cutlery.
Still, the wreck’s most famous remnant is the brass combination lock still in working condition after four centuries buried in sand. It’s possible the lock was used to guard those coins, or potentially other valuables that didn’t survive exposure to the elements. Regardless, the lock has remained close with no hints to its four-letter combination for hundreds of years.

Over the last four years, the ageless Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), broad-based S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and growth-focused Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) have been virtually unstoppable. Mckenna Grace joined co-star Joseph Zada on the new episode of the Spanish talk show "La Revuelta." Styled by Molly ***** son, the "Gifted" actress accessorized with Sonia Petroff Swan Earrings. Crafted from brass with 24-carat gold overlay, the earrings wrapped around the ear in an ear-cuff silhouette.
The top arch resembled a slender, graceful swan neck ending in a downturned beak, while the base fanned out into a stylized wing. Further, brilliant Swarovski diamonds adorned the wings' feathers. A single ***** rous pearl sat right at the bend where the neck met the plumage.
Grace paired the beautiful earrings with the Sau Lee Caspian Jacquard Print Dress. The metallic gold minidress features a high Mandarin-style collar framing a keyhole chest cutout. The bodice hugged her torso and cinched at the waist before falling into a short hemline with a little side slit for ease of movement.
The metallic gold jacquard wove an ornate, textured surface pattern that caught light from every angle, echoing the opulence of the gilded jewelry. Interested in Sunrun Inc.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Sunrun lowered its 2026 outlook: It now expects about $200 million in Cash Generation, down from a prior range of $200 million to $375 million, and approximately $4.6 billion in Aggregate Subscriber Value. The company cited installation volumes below expectations and, to a lesser extent, higher interest rates.
Installation trends were mixed: Direct installation volumes grew 9% year over year, while affiliate volumes fell 67%; Sunrun expects affiliates to decline more than 60% for the full year. Storage attachment reached a record 75%, and Upfront Net Subscriber Value rose to about $3,700 per customer.
Sunrun expects growth in 2027 and beyond: It anticipates higher overall installation volumes and meaningfully positive Cash Generation next year, while flagging insurance, California property taxes and capital costs as potential pressures. The company also plans to double its online storage capacity by the end of 2028.

Herbert Blomstedt, who headed the San Francisco Symphony from 1985-95 and led orchestras in Scandinavia and Germany during a career over seven decades, died Wednesday. He was 99.
Blomstedt died at his home in Gothenburg, Sweden, according to his management agency, KünstlerSekretariat am Gasteig.
His final performance was on May 15 with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Hall, when he entered the stage in a wheelchair and struggled to get through Gustav Mahler's Ninth Symphony, which halted for several minutes during the third movement.

Rihanna has dressed her kids in matching Savage x Fenty PJs, and the cozy photos are already winning hearts. Set against a starry sky and a snowy backdrop, the striped looks give the campaign a dreamy, bedtime feel. What makes the campaign even more memorable is that the tiny pieces are exclusive to three little models, with Rihanna and A$AP Rocky's kids, clearly stealing the spotlight.
Savage x Fenty shared the images on Instagram with a playful caption. It credited the "Sweet Satin Dream" to Rihanna "and the gang." It then added a note: "The tiny satins are exclusive to RZA, Riot, and Rocki."
The campaign marks a first of sorts, as it is the singer's first photo shoot with all three of her children. Her sons, RZA and Riot, are four and three years old, respectively. Her daughter Rocki is the youngest and is one year old.
The photos also promote the brand's collection of holiday-themed onesies. The styling of the campaign is soft and cohesive. Rihanna wears pale pink and deep burgundy striped satin pajamas, with a matching striped sleep mask pushed up on her head. Her children wear the same print in smaller sizes. The baby's set has a ruffled, romper-style cut, while the older two wear ****** on-up tops and trousers.
The set is designed around a nursery with pictures showing a deep blue, star-dotted backdrop, a large paper penguin and a hot-air balloon carrying a bunny. Rihanna and the kids lie on patchwork quilts and fluffy white snow that cover the floor.
