Nottingham Forest felt they were denied a legitimate goal by VAR after Neco Williams' finish was controversially ruled out against Spurs on Saturday.
The full-back had the ball in the net after Sandro Tonali failed to clear the ball in the six-yard box, diving head-first to send it over the line.
Replays showed, however, that the Wales international handled the ball on the line, so the goal was chalked off following a VAR review.
It was the best chance in a game that ended scoreless at the City Ground, though Williams is adamant that the ball did not touch his hand and the goal should have stood.
"It's a goal," he told Sky Sports. "VAR is there when there is a clear and obvious error and for me that is not clear and obvious. I've seen the images and the replays and at not one moment did I think I handballed it. I headed it in between my arms.

The incident came halfway through the second half after Morgan Gibbs-White was slipped through on goal and looked to ******* his finish over the goalkepeer.
Gibbs-White's goal-bound chip could have been cleared fairly easily by Sandro Tonali but the Spurs midfielder missed his kick as the ball bounced towards the line.

LOS ANGELES -- Angel City FC's 1-1 draw with the Washington Spirit on Sunday was not the result the club wanted, but the way it got there may have offered a more encouraging sign for the weeks ahead.
After falling behind to Trinity Rodman's 65th-minute goal, Angel City refused to let another strong performance slip away. Ally Sentnor, whose first-half goal was overturned by VAR for a handball, eventually found the equalizer in the 86th minute with a long-range strike that beat Washington goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.
For interim head coach Lef Smerud, the response mattered as much as the point.
"I think today by far was the best performance we have had," Smerud said. "Our performance today is very promising, and I'm proud of the way we played."
That belief was tested before halftime. Angel City created several promising opportunities early, particularly with Prisca Chilufya repeatedly finding **** e and threatening. Washington gradually settled into the match, though, and Angelina Anderson was forced into several important saves to keep the game scoreless.

Andriy Lunin — 6: Barely called into action and only had to make one save. He was let down by his defenders on the goal conceded.
Joan Martínez — 7: Strong on the ball and distributed well. Had one giveaway he could've done better with, but it was an otherwise composed performance.
Mario Rivas — 8: Two strong clearances defensively and an excellent goal, attacking the cross well and meeting it with his head.
Álvaro Carreras — 5: Poor defensively despite not being tested all that much until the second half.
Denzel Dumfries — 6: Still finding his feet physically. Lucky not to be called for a handball in the box in the first half. Continues to make positive off-ball runs and should find his rhythm eventually.

Rangers intend to contest a four-match touchline ban given to manager Derek McInnes for describing as "disgusting" the decision to award Celtic a late penalty at Motherwell in May.
The comments, made at the end of last season when McInnes was in charge of Hearts, related to a stoppage-time spot-kick for handball that was converted by Kelechi Iheanacho.
Celtic's 3-2 victory at Fir Park on 13 May kept them one point behind Hearts, who they beat to the **** le a few days later in a final-day decider.
Responding to the Scottish FA penalty, which is an immediate three-game ban with one suspended until the end of the season, Rangers say the remarks were "directed at the decision, rather than representing any broader criticism of officials".

Get French Football News spoke to former Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne about some of the French-related World Cup storylines that have caught his eye, ranging from the Paraguayan gamesmanship that France faced last week to the impression made by Monaco forward Forarin Balogun.
From a French point of view you will always be **** ociated with Thierry Henry’s handball. You’ve previously said that your issue isn’t so much with him as with the referee who missed it. I’m interested to know what you thought of Paraguay’s performance/attitude against France. Do you think they went too far or was it a case of good for them for getting away with all they did, because of a weak referee?
They aren’t as good as France, so had to find a way to get under their skin to try and put them off their game. The French are the best side in the competition, so you have to find a way to put them off their game, so you can look to take advantage. Paraguay went for a physical route at times, but ultimately France had too much for them. It’s up to the referee to control the players and manage the game as well.
As a former centre back you’re very well placed to judge. How highly do you rate William Saliba’s and Dayot Upamecano’s performances so far? Which other team’s defences have impressed you and why?
They are excellent defenders. We see Saliba week in week out in the Premier League and he is one of the best in the league. Upamecano is also a very good defender, both defending and also with the ball. I would say Spain have defended really well as, like the French, the centre backs can both defend well, and also use the ball well.

After what was a decent overall performance from the German national team at EURO 2024 on home soil where they were a Marc Cucurella non-called handball away from progressing to the semifinals, Die Mannschaft came crashing back to earth at this summer’s World Cup.
From the EUROs under Julian Nagelsmann, there was some renewed belief after disaster World Cups in 2022 in Qatar and 2018 in Russia where Germany failed to make it out of their groups and EURO 2020 had a different air about it knowing that it was Joachim Löw’s last act as manner. The knowledge of a forthcoming managerial change made crashing out against England at Wembley in the round of 16 a bit less painful, though the images of THAT Thomas Müller second half miss 1v1 with Jordan Pickford still haunts Germany fans.
Now, change is on the horizon again and Jürgen Klopp is set to take over the Germany job to replace Nagelsmann after the DFB essentially gave him the chance to resign himself as opposed to axing him outright after crashing out of the World Cup. While the final details get sorted out, Klopp will finish out his punditry duties with MagentaTV and eventually activate the release clause in his contract with Red Bull GmbH as their head of global football that’s specifically for taking the Germany job.
Klopp and managing the national team is a match that a lot of Germans have been begging for since he called it quits at Liverpool. Now, though, the time has come to actually turn that dream into a reality and out Germany back on the top of the pedestal it was on in 2014 in Brazil.

With the 2026 World Cup knockout round well underway, things are starting to heat up from the penalty spot. In total, 13 penalty kicks have been attempted in the run of play at the tournament, and two of the Round of 32 games have gone to a dramatic penalty shootout.
For fans who are new to soccer, or who might just need a little reminder, here are some of the basic rules and reasonings behind penalty kicks in the beautiful game.
A penalty kick (also called a penalty or a PK for short) is awarded to a team as a result of a transgression inside the penalty box — usually a foul, or sometimes a handball. One player takes the penalty, facing off against the opposing goalkeeper in a one-on-one scenario.
When a player is fouled elsewhere on the field, their team would receive a free kick at the spot of the foul. But since fouls or handballs in the box are typically in the run-up to an attempt on goal, the penalty kick offers a controlled solution to all violations that take place inside that ****** e.
During the World Cup and other competitive tournaments, penalties tend to be most ****** ociated with penalty shootouts, which are used to decide a winner after playing through extra time. (More on that later.)

Four matches, four wins. Eight goals scored, none conceded. A coming-of-age for 17-year-old prodigy Gilberto Mora. The first half of Mexico’s World Cup has gone perfectly.
El Tri have played each of those matches at the brutalist Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The ground has a unique connection to the World Cup: It is the only place on the planet to have hosted matches in three different tournaments.
It is also hallowed ground. In 1970, it witnessed the coronation of the Pelé-led Brazil side that is still considered the best ever. In 1986, it saw Diego Maradona’s goal of the century (and his infamous handball) against England. In 2026, the atmosphere during Mexico’s round-of-16 match against Ecuador was the most intense of this World Cup so far.
Mexico’s preeminent soccer historian Juan Villoro describes it as the country’s “cathedral of football.” But the venue is not appreciated by everyone.
For a soccer stadium, the Azteca is unusually high up, at 2,200m above sea level. For athletes not acclimatized, a high-energy sport like soccer at altitude puts a major strain on the body. Playing high up is different from playing in the heat: Heat-related fatigue is like a steady drain on the body, whereas altitude-driven fatigue is like suddenly hitting the wall.

Germany went into the match as massive favorites over a relatively small football nation of Paraguay. Despite Germany’s historic success and their first trip to the knockout stage since 2014, Die Mannschaft would fall short once again in ugly fashion in a penalty shootout to the South American side.
An absolute joke off a foul overuled a goal for Germany that would have surely sealed the deal for Germany to book their Round of 16 ticket. Not to mention the VAR overturn, there was a clear missed handball as well as Manuel Neuer’s brilliant through ball to Kai Havertz that was blown down for seemingly no reason.
In a match where almost all fans were calling for Kimmich to be moved into midfield, the Bayern Munich veteran finally put in a good performance at right-back. While Malick Thiaw would have been a great option to start in this position, Kimmich was highly effective in this role.
While Jamal Musiala in 2026 is a far cry from the version we saw in 2022 or 2024 tournaments, he provided some much needed energy in an attack that was simply ineffective. Despite all the possession, no one was able to create, although Musiala did inject some life when he came on the pitch.
While Kai Havertz will receive the honors today, he did not do much outside of his goal which provided Germany with a lifeline before heading to added time. Considering the amount of minutes the **** nal forward played in this game, a lot more would be expected from the Champions League finalist.

HIGH POINT — Carolina Core FC continued its run of strong midseason play.
The Foxes maintained pressure much of the match, scored the lone goal just before halftime, and shut out Huntsville City FC 1-0 in MLS NEXT Pro soccer on a hot, stormy Sunday evening at Truist Point.
“A great performance from the group,” CCFC interim head coach Jake Davis said. “Really a mature performance. They put together long spells on the ball. And when we didn’t have the ball, it looked like us. It was a great performance from them all around.”
Thomas Raimbault scored the lone goal of the match in the 44th minute for the Foxes (3-8-6, 17 points), who in their last four matches have won two outright and added another in PKs following a cool start to the season.
The opportunity began with a ball in from the left end line. A quick shot by CCFC was stopped, and the ball caromed out for another look. The ball hit off a defender that the Foxes argued was a handball.
