After narrowly missing out on Birmingham four years ago, Wales' men and women are making Commonwealth Games debuts in the wheelchair 3x3 basketball in Glasgow.
The teams received wildcards after finishing second in their respective qualifying finals.
In a tight-knit Wales squad, the men's and women's team are united in more than one way.
Libi Phillips and Will Bishop met playing the sport at under-14s level and have been together for six years.
Their relationship has blossomed along with their basketball ability.

Peter Gagliardo, an adaptive sports coordinator and peer counselor at Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital, is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, a feat achieved by only 45 other wheelchair users.
Gagliardo, who has used a wheelchair since a motorcycle accident 20 years ago, said his goal is to show what is possible while living with a disability. He works full time at Helen Hayes, where he helps people return to activities they enjoyed before being injured.
"We're doing everything that you can think of to get people like myself back to doing what they loved before they got injured," Gagliardo said.
One of those people is former patient Freddy Tiburcio, who participates in adaptive sports and recreational activities.
"We do marathons, and all the different activities," Tiburcio said. "Wheelchair softball. Fishing."

FC Bayern is lighting up its Allianz Arena in the colours of Disability Pride Month, which is taking place for the first time in Munich, from 21-23:00 CEST on Friday. Red represents physical disabilities, yellow stands for cognitive disabilities, white signifies invisible disabilities, blue symbolises mental illnesses, green represents sensory disabilities and black is in memory of people who died due to discrimination. It’s a visible sign of respect, self-determination and an inclusive society. Together with the state capital of Munich, the German champions are sending out a clear signal: people with disabilities are, of course, an integral part of society – including in sport and in the stadium.
“FC Bayern stands for diversity and does a lot to raise awareness of the lives of people with disabilities,” explained disability officer Kim Krämer. “The club has been carrying out various inclusion-focused projects for many years. The fact that FC Bayern and the City of Munich are now sending out a visible sign in Disability Pride Month is another step on the road towards a natural coexistence. The illumination of the Allianz Arena is a strong signal that everyone belongs at FC Bayern, and that they can get involved and help to shape the club – regardless of disability.”
FC Bayern is constantly working on making the Allianz Arena and its general offerings as accessible as possible, in consultation with the fans. For example, there are now 324 wheelchair ******* es in the stadium, as well as commentary for the blind, a delivery service to the seats, live subtitles for people with hearing impairment and the presentation of the line-ups in sign language for men’s, women’s and basketball matches on the website. Information in simple language also makes it easier for people to find their way around. The club is continuously optimising its digital offerings to enable as many people as possible to access them independently.

UNCASVILLE, CT — Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers left the court in a wheelchair after making contact with Nia Coffey as she went in for a layup on Wednesday, July 8.
With 7:16 to go in the second quarter, Coffey blocked Rivers' 3-foot layup attempt. Rivers appeared to have been hit in the face on the follow through. Her left shoe also came off.
Rivers was laying on the court surrounded by her teammates, who were holding up towels, for several minutes before trainers summoned a wheelchair. She got in and was wheeled back to the locker room. Rivers had five points, one rebound, two ****** ists, two steals and a block when she left the game.
The No. 8 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of NC State, Rivers is a fan favorite for the Sun. She is averaging 6.9 points and 3.2 ****** ists in 23 minutes per game this season.

Detroit — A fierce sporting competition is bringing hundreds of wheelchair users and thousands of their friends, family and coaches to downtown Detroit this week for the National Veterans Wheelchair Games at Huntington Place.
The world’s largest annual wheelchair sports and rehabilitation event solely for military veterans, the games include archery, softball, basketball, rugby and more at Huntington Place, plus additional activities like fishing, cycling, bowling and swimming at other sites around Metro Detroit, including Belle Isle.
This is the NVWG's first time in Detroit and first time in Michigan since 1987 when it was held in Ann Arbor.
"We have a little over 500 veterans coming in with their families," said Wheelchair Games co-director Jennifer Purser. "And we love Detroit, we're excited."
Purser said the games are co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America.

And could he even get on to the court in the first place as he would need to dismantle his wheelchair to get through the gate?
But he had invented a sport and would do whatever it took to play it.
Parks was on a family picnic when he had his lightbulb moment 50 years ago.

In the Shepherd Center Wheelchair Division, Daniel Romanchuk successfully defended his ***** le for the ninth consecutive year, crossing the finish line in 19:00. Romanchuk, the course record holder, continued his dominance of the event with another first-place finish.
On the women’s side, Tatyana McFadden returned to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2021. McFadden captured her eighth Peachtree victory with a winning time of 23:02.
In the women’s elite field, Tsigie Gebreselama secured her place in race history, claiming the championship in 31:02 to become the 2026 Peachtree Road Race women’s winner.

"In the last few months, I've got personal bests in all my distances, so that's a good place to be," says Melanie Woods.
The wheelchair racer will be competing for Team Scotland in the 400m and 1500m at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Last time, in Birmingham 2022, she came fourth, but is pushing for more this time around.
And, despite this being a smaller Games, there have never been more medals up for grabs in para-sports.
Glasgow last hosted the Games in 2014 and only stepped in to stage the 2026 edition when Victoria pulled out, three years ago, on cost grounds.

Serena Williams is vehemently speaking out against the anti-doping testing system in tennis. The seven-time Wimbledon champion expressed her disappointment with the system during a news conference on Sunday, ESPN reported.
Williams, who is preparing to make her return to Wimbledon on Tuesday, said the protocol requires her to be available at busy times of the day and makes it possible for her to miss tests.
“They changed the rules now. I didn’t know some of the rules. So apparently if you miss a test outside of your window, it still counts as missed,” Williams said, per ESPN. “I’m like, I guess I can’t go pick up my kids. It’s unprofessional. I hate it. I think it’s necessary, but I think a lot of the stuff, if I want to go places outside of my window, I should be able to go without having it count as a missed test.”
The International Tennis Integrity Agency conducts a testing pool that includes the top 100 singles, doubles and wheelchair players, as well as returning players, according to the BBC. Athletes can face sanctions if they miss three out-of-competition tests within a 12-month period. The agency also requires players to provide their locations for one hour every day.
Williams said she almost didn’t return to tennis because she didn’t want to deal with the testing system.

Scaroni, who was raised in Tekoa, was dominant on the World Marathon Majors circuit last year, claiming women's wheelchair victories in the Boston, Sydney, Chicago and New York Marathons.
She was nominated Thursday in the category of "Best Athlete With A Disability." Other nominees in the category are Jake Adicoff (para Nordic skiing), Declan Farmer (para hockey) and Oksana Masters (para cross-country skiing).
Scaroni was also nominated in the same category in 2023, following her breakout performance at the 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo.
"I just think the ESPYS are so cool because every sports fan is represented and for someone like me who loves my sports and all para sports, we get to have that showcase alongside the world's biggest sports and best athletes," Scaroni said.

A man who was accused of faking his own death in 2020 and fleeing to Europe to evade rape charges in the U.S. has died after he was taken to a hospital from a Utah prison, authorities said Friday.
Nicholas Rossi was serving at least 10 years in prison for two ***** ual ***** ault cases that went to trial in Utah in 2025, following a yearslong global saga to find him and then extradite him from Scotland.
Rossi, 38, died Thursday night from "complications of an existing medical condition after choosing to discontinue medical treatment," said Richard Piatt, a spokesperson at the Utah Department of Corrections.
His victims and his family were notified, Piatt said.
Piatt said he couldn't disclose details about Rossi's health problems. But during court appearances, he had appeared in a wheelchair and used oxygen.

Faizon Love rolled into a Hillsborough County, Florida, courtroom Friday (June 19) in a red prison jumpsuit and a wheelchair, shackled at the wrists, after spending more than two weeks behind bars on contempt-of-court charges tied to a child support dispute.
The actor was arrested on June 16 on two counts of contempt of court, originating from a warrant out of Hillsborough County. He had first been picked up in Riverside County, California and spent 16 days in jail before being transferred to Florida. Attorney Glen R. Lansky confirmed the cross-country transport, telling the NY Post he was moved "on orders of contempt from the Honorable Judge Mark Kiser."
At the center of the case is a child support dispute involving his ex, Tiffany Lee. She claims Love owes roughly $250,000 in missed payments at a court-ordered rate of $2,500 per month. Her attorney argued he had not made the required payments in years. Lee, appearing by video call, alleged Love told her directly that she "wasn't going to get a dime" and that he intended to stop working and cancel shows to avoid paying.
When his own attorney asked Love in open court whether he currently had the ability to pay $2,500 a month, he answered plainly: "Right now? No."

June 22 (Reuters) - Uber Technologies' board was sued on Monday by shareholders who accused management and directors of letting the ride-sharing company cut ‌corners on compliance, leading to thousands of lawsuits from victims of ***** ual ‌assault and harassment.
In a complaint filed in San Francisco federal court, shareholders led by a Detroit pension fund said board members ignored repeated internal and external warnings about Uber's alleged failure to address ***** ual abuse by drivers.
Shareholders said oversight failures were also a factor in two lawsuits last year by the federal government.
One accused Uber of routinely refusing to serve disabled passengers, including people ‌with service animals or stowable ⁠wheelchairs. The other alleged deceptive billing and cancellation practices in the Uber One subscription service.

Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, was admitted to the hospital on June 14, though his office did not immediately confirm why the lawmaker needed medical attention.

Spencer Pratt is at the center of a growing political controversy in Los Angeles after a series of videos surfaced showing Skid Row residents claiming they were paid or otherwise incentivized to vote for Mayor Karen Bass and councilwoman Nithya Raman.
The videos posted to TikTok were recorded near 7th Street and Flower Street in downtown Los Angeles, per a New York Post report published Tuesday, June 9, which noted the footage has been turned over to the Department of Justice.
In one clip, a man who identified himself as Kevin Shepherd, who has been living on Skid Row for five years, claimed he received $4 in exchange for completing a mail-in ballot for Bass and dropping it in a ballot box. Shepherd said he was initially offered $2 but negotiated for a higher payment.

Abdullah Hayayei, a wheelchair using shot putter from the United Arab Emirates, was killed when a training cage collapsed in a gust of wind at a training facility in Newham, London, as he practised for the World Para Athletics Championships in July 2017.
UK Athletics, the event's organiser, is being sentenced for corporate manslaughter.
Keith Davies, 78, UK Athletics' former head of sport, is being sentenced for a breach of health and safety law. Both Mr Davies and UK Athletics pleaded guilty at a hearing earlier this year.
