California Resources Corporation (NYSE:CRC) announced on September 17 that it had agreed to sell its Uinta Basin **** ets, located mostly in Utah and Colorado, to an undisclosed buyer for $90 million in cash. The company had come to own the Uinta **** ets, which span about 100,000 net acres, after it acquired Berry Corp last year. However, CRC considered them non-core to its operations. The net proceeds from the sale will be used for shareholder returns and other corporate purposes.
Francisco Leon, President and CEO of California Resources Corporation, commented:
"Today's transaction strengthens our business. The monetization of our Uinta Basin **** ets sharpens our focus on California and captures additional value from the Berry merger. This transaction enhances our capital allocation flexibility, allowing us to invest in higher-return opportunities within the Golden State and supports our shareholder return strategy. The sale also helps offset the purchase price of our recent midstream transaction."
The transaction is expected to close by year-end, subject to the receipt of certain third-party consents and other customary conditions.
The sale will allow CRC to redeploy the $90 million toward **** ets that are central to its operating strategy while avoiding additional capital commitments to Uinta. The company already stated in its Q2 earnings call that Uinta has higher capital intensity, higher break-evens, lower crude quality, higher transportation and operating costs, and steeper declines. Therefore, the sale removes a portfolio distraction at a time when CRC is concentrating investment in California infrastructure and production.

Xavier Prep pays a visit to Cathedral City in the only head-to-head desert game on Friday (don't forget the Yucca Valley at Desert Christian Academy game was moved to Saturday). But Palm Desert, La Quinta, Palm Springs and Coachella Valley are also at home against tough opponents. Should make for some fun scoreboard watching and that is where we come in.

The public legal dispute between members of Selena Quintanilla's family has intensified. Abraham "A.B." Quintanilla III has officially sued his sister, Suzette Quintanilla-Arriago, over profits related to their famed sister's estate.
In a lawsuit filed on Sept. 10, and obtained by Rolling Stone, Quintanilla III seeks an unspecified amount in damages and monetary relief exceeding $1 million. The suit alleges that as the manager of Selena's estate, Quintanilla-Arriago has not provided A.B. "with a complete accounting of the ******* ets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, transactions, distributions, and net profits" and "failed or refused to pay [him] the full amount of net profits and proceeds due to him."

A.B. Quintanilla, the brother of the late "Queen of Tejano Music" Selena, is responding to the statement released by his mother Marcella Quintanilla and sister Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga — a statement that said he was making "false accusations" about his family members and damaging their reputations.
"I don't lie," A.B. wrote in his latest statement shared on Wednesday (Sept. 2). "Suzette and her lawyers were notified with the corresponding documents via certified mail and electronic mail. She was notified of a lawsuit related to her fiduciary duties, that is, her legal obligations to act with loyalty, transparency and in the best interests of those she was responsible to."

He continued, "She responded, but did not provide what was being requested: contracts, documentation and financial information. Those fundamental requirements were left unanswered. A.B. says that his lawyer will speak out on Friday (Sept. 4) where "many things will be made clear."

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – There's a lot of talk regarding the New England Patriots' depth at the edge position.
After signing Dre'Mont Jones this offseason, it became clear throughout the summer that Elijah Ponder would be playing opposite him. But behind them are two rookies: Gabe Jacas and Quintayvious Hutchins.
However, while the public might be concerned, the feeling inside the room is nothing but confidence and determination.
"I have a lot of confidence. We got a lot of young, talented players that are ready to compete and ready to show themselves, and you got to appreciate that," Jones told Patriots Wire in a one-on-one conversation on Thursday. "We want to see how the season goes, obviously, but I think there's a lot of confidence and a lot to be positive about moving forward."
They've heard a bit of the noise, but are ready to prove everyone wrong.

A new public dispute has emerged within Selena Quintanilla's family. Her siblings now appear to disagree over claims involving possible legal action. A.B. Quintanilla III shared a cryptic message that raised questions among fans. Suzette Quintanilla and their mother, Marcella, rebutted his allegations right away.
A.B. took to Instagram Tuesday and told fans about an alleged lawsuit. He said the matter involved Suzette and "facts and circumstances" connected to their late father, Abraham Quintanilla. A.B. claimed the legal process began months ago, though its roots went back years. "There is years of history. There are facts. There is evidence. There are circumstances," he wrote.
A.B. also said much about the situation remains unknown. He told followers he would speak when the time felt right and would share his side with evidence. However, he did not reveal specific details about the alleged lawsuit.
Suzette and Marcella responded with a joint statement Wednesday. They said Suzette had not been served with a lawsuit or legal papers. They also called A.B.'s "insinuations" completely false, according to TMZ. Marcella said she spoke out because Abraham can no longer defend himself.
The pair denied allegations that Suzette stole anything or planned to sell Selena's personal belongings. They also said they knew of no wrongdoing by Abraham that could support A.B.'s alleged claims. However, they made clear that the family conflict would not change their affection for him.

The New England Patriots were quite busy over the weekend, making 42 combined transactions to go from previously 91 to 53 players on their active roster. A majority of those moves were expected to happen, but the team of head coach Mike Vrabel nonetheless managed to pull off some minor surprises.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the moves that can be qualified as surprises through the lens of our established winners and losers format. It would be easy to label the 53 men on the active roster as winners and the rest as losers, but every situation is different and the reality much more nuanced than simply asking who is in or out.
QB Behren Morton: With Drake Maye a franchise-caliber player and Tommy DeVito an able and experienced backup, the top of the Patriots' quarterback depth chart was set in stone throughout the summer. The question was whether or not Morton had done enough to warrant being kept as one of the 53 players on the roster. Turns out he had. Despite some shortcomings elsewhere on the team, he made it through cutdown day as QB3 and the projected emergency option on game day.
OT Dametrious Crownover: Shortly before the cutdown deadline at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, the Patriots made a trade with the Vikings to bring in versatile offensive lineman Walter Rouse, a player capable of lining up at both tackle and guard. And yet, despite his presence, the team decided to keep four pure tackles on the initial 53. Three of those — Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Caleb Lomu — were set in stone to begin with, but Crownover's position seemed less secure with Rouse in the mix. However, he seemingly had nothing to worry about and done enough over the summer to secure a roster spot in lieu of nominal OT4 Marcus Bryant.
ED Quintayvious Hutchins: The defensive edge had been in the spotlight going back to the offseason, and it remains a question at this point as well. Through the cutdown deadline, however, the Patriots opted to go with four players, Hutchins among them. His inclusion over fellow edges Bradyn Swinson and Jesse Luketa might have come surprisingly, but the seventh-round draft pick has developed nicely over the summer to make the pair expendable.

Congratulations to Nick King. The former Palm Springs high athletic standout and now first-year head coach at Shadow Hills picked up the first victory of his coaching career Friday. The Knights' defense solved the Wing-T offense of Palo Verde Valley and the offense got on track as Shadow Hills pulled away for a 26-6 victory. Damian Walls had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win. King and Company will have a short week and a tough task in Week 3 as they play at Yucaipa on Thursday. But tonight, Coach King can go ahead and exhale and celebrate the fact that he's a winning high school head coach.
Last week, the Rancho Mirage defense bent, but rarely broke, as they turned away and shut down a solid Yucca Valley offense. The Rattlers flummoxed their second straight DVL team and have found a nice mix of offense and defense early this season. There's been a lot of talk about the Rattlers sophomore class and that was on display in this one as the four touchdowns were scored by four different sophomores. Wow! Bentley Arredondo, Jadarius Hester, Reid Keane and Jayden Ayers all scored. That's 2-0 for the Rattlers and that's a good feeling.
The Blackhawks took their usual opening week bye week and there was absolutely no rust to be found as La Quinta ran around, over and through Yucca Valley for a 58-28 victory. The only thing that slowed them down was a wet bulb delay to start the game as La Quinta showed off its balanced offense. Talented tailback Colton LaCrone did his thing with 136 yards rushing and two TDs on 16 carries, while QB Mason Flores threw for 187 yards and three touchdown passes. The defense did its part getting a safety from Dominyck Gonzalez and a pick six from Alfredo Castro. Sure there was some sloppy play that gave coach Juan Ruiz something to talk about during film sessions, but he said it best "Even if there was some sloppy moments, nothing beats starting off the year with a W." One note for Yucca Valley in a mostly forgettable night, Aiden Pope did return a kickoff for a touchdown.

The New England Patriots won on the arm and foot of Behren Morton.
In Saturday's Week 2 preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the rookie backup served as the quarterback and punter at times. Morton got off three punts for an average of 44.3 yards, along with leading the offense on a game-winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.
It was an all-around impressive showing from the seventh-round draft pick out of Texas Tech.
On the final offensive drive, Morton connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Nick DeGennaro to put the Patriots back in the lead. Rookie edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins finished off the job by stip sacking Eagles quarterback Cole Payton for the 24-21 win.
Morton finished the game completing 13-of-17 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown. Tommy DeVito went 8-for-15 passing for 151 yards and one touchdown.

La Quinta High School has never been shy about running the football, and while this year the Blackhawks' offense should be more balanced there's reason to believe that the run-first mentality will be alive and well.
That's largely because of the depth La Quinta will have at running back, but also because of senior Colton LaCrone and his ability to pound the ball like perhaps no one else in the Coachella Valley.
LaCrone ran for 701 yards and four touchdowns in five league games last season, averaging 113.6 yards per game. It's because of his potential for a spectacular encore that he lands at No. 3 on The Desert Sun's 2026 Elite 11 countdown.
LaCrone, who stands about 5-foot-10 and weighs just shy of 200 pounds, is a bruising tailback who'll also help lead the Blackhawks' defense from the linebacker spot. He was an all-league and All-CIF-SS selection last season in helping La Quita back to the playoffs.
It could be argued that La Quinta will be even better this season, despite some key losses on the roster. The receiving crops appears to be deeper and arguably faster and more talented, collectively, the offensive line looking solid and LaCrone is perhaps the top running back in the valley.

World number one Scottie Scheffler powered to an eight-stroke victory in the St. Jude Championship on Sunday, capturing his first PGA Tour ******* le since January.
The American launched the tour's FedEx Cup playoff series in convincing style, shrugging off an early bogey to card five birdies in a four-under par 66 for a 17-under par total of 263 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.
South Korean Kim Si-woo carded a two-under 68 to finish second on nine-under.
"I've had some close calls this year," said Scheffler, who had five runner-up finishes and four other top-fours during the extended dry spell that followed his season-opening victory at La Quinta, California.
"I feel like I kept saying at the end of each tournament 'Man, I feel like I'm playing pretty good. It's just the little things aren't going my way.'"

Aug. 15—MITCHELL — A home shutout proved to be a good way for the Mitchell High School girls soccer team to start the season, as the Kernels dominated Huron for a 9-0 win on Friday afternoon at Joe Quintal Field.
Kernel senior Taryn Thomas finished with four goals and an ****** ist, as Mitchell scored six times in the first half to control the contest against the Tigers.
Thomas scored the first two goals of the game, including the first tally 62 seconds into the contest. Emilie Ellis and Bella Husmann each added goals to put the Kernels up 4-0 in the first 20 minutes of the contest and Thomas and Ellis each scored again in the final 10 minutes of the first half to set the intermission margin at 6-0.
Mitchell padded the lead in the second half, with a goal from Addi Hubbard and another from Katie Stahl. Thomas added fourth goal of the day with 27 minutes left, setting the final score at 9-0.
Malia Reitzel started in net for Mitchell and led the Kernels' defensive clean sheet. It was the sixth straight year that the Kernel girls have won their matchup with Huron via shutout.

According to a report from Matteo Moretto (as captured by Sport journalist Jordi Carné), former Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka might be trying to capitalize on the recent injury to Frenkie de Jong and has offered himself to his old boss, Hansi Flick, and FC Barcelona:
In recent hours, for example, FC Barcelona has received an offer worth considering. According to Matteo Moretto on "La Pizarra de Quintana," Leon Goretzka, a free agent after his contract with Bayern Munich expired, has made himself available to the Blaugrana club. The midfielder's entourage—he played a supporting role for the German national team at the World Cup—has expressed openness to joining the Blaugrana project following De Jong's tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
This isn't the first time Goretzka has offered his services to Barça in recent months.
Do not expect Goretzka to land in Catalonia, though. Carné says that FC Barcelona is not looking to add anything to the central midfield, so Goretzka will have to continue his search elsewhere.
As for where he might land, Goretzka's future could be determined by injuries that occur this summer. As of now, the midfielder is rumored to be focusing on European teams, but could eventually accept a fate that includes MLS.

Arrakis, a seven-month old London- and Paris-based startup building what it calls an AI "operating system" for industrial companies, is emerging from stealth with $38 million in venture capital funding. It says its goal is to bring agentic AI to sectors such aerospace, energy, logistics, and manufacturing.

The company's latest funding is a $30 million Series A led by Blossom Capital, with participation from venture capital firms Accel, GFC, MainObject, and Rerail. Accel led an earlier $7.5 million seed round, and individual backers include Datadog CEO Olivier Pomel and OpenAI's head of business products, Olivier Godement.

The latest round values the company at $140 million post-money, cofounder and CEO Rafael Quintanilla told Fortune.

Quintanilla is a former vice president at Accel. While there, he spent the better part of a year crisscrossing the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East to develop the firm's thesis on defense and industrial resilience. What he found convinced him to quit and become a founder himself.
"I realized that there was a huge gap between what I was seeing at Accel and in the Valley, with us investing in companies like Anthropic and Lovable in Europe," he said, "and what I was seeing in the more industrial parts of the economy."

He said that most AI has targeted so-called knowledge workers who complete their jobs using software, but that many more jobs in the economy involve the production and movement of physical goods. "Most AI investment to date has targeted the 30% of workers behind a desk. The real ROI lies in the 70% running industrial operations," he said.
Sonali de Rycker, the Accel partner who backed Arrakis's seed round, said she is betting on the founder as much as the market. "Rafa has a rare combination of curiosity, hustle and tireless drive," she told Fortune. "After working closely with Rafa during his time at Accel, it's an honour to be working with him again as an entrepreneur."
But Arrakis is hardly alone in going after manufacturing and industrial firms. Consulting giants such as Accenture and Boston Consulting Group are racing into industrial AI, as is Palantir, and Jeff Bezos-backed Prometheus—now valued in the tens of billions of dollars—is pouring capital into automating the engineering of physical products. The frontier labs are circling too.
Quintanilla argues Arrakis is carving out a distinct niche from each of these competitors. If Prometheus worked with Airbus, he said, it would build AI for "the core engineering of building an aircraft." He said Arrakis, by contrast, "want[s] to take care of everything around it… We want to be the AI layer for key operations of those companies."

The Coachella Valley has perhaps never had a group of quarterbacks quite as good, collectively, as the group that played during the 2025 high school football season. They were that impressive.
Bishop Miller V of Palm Springs High School and A.J. Rivera of Palm Desert were co-Offensive MVPs in the Desert Empire League. Each player accounted for at least 2,500 yards and 33 touchdowns, with Rivera setting the school record for passing yards and touchdowns in a season.
Then there was the record breaking quarterback at Shadow Hills, Jesse Rodriguez, who threw for a valley-high 2,844 yards to go with 27 touchdowns, and All-DEL first team quarterback Roman Ansley of La Quinta, just to name a few.
This season, the crop of quarterbacks could be just as potent, depending on who you ask. With the 2026 season quickly approaching, the guys who return under center should provide a lot of excitement for valley football fans.
In this story, we’ll highlight the five who already have our attention entering the season, which begins Aug. 21.

If there is a pain point from Georgia's defense a season ago, it's a lack of something that Bulldog fans have gotten used to since Kirby Smart was hired as head coach – a relentless pass rush.
Georgia's defense was good enough for the most part last year, but it was not elite. It was not overwhelmingly special. Sure, it was enough to get the job done, but not by the standards in place in Athens.
This is not to say that there is an expectation of talents like Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean or Jalen Carter reincarnated, but there should be a presence of relentless effort to get after the opposing quarterback.
The bottom line is this – that ranking last in sacks cannot happen again for Georgia. And this year's group of edge rushers will make or break that effort.
It'll be a group that's high on potential, but not yet proven. ******* ody sums all of that up much more than Quintavius Johnson. He's flashed some promise previously, and now he's expected to step up as the primary pass-rush threat. In baseball terms, he's a promising prospect who you expect to get better with more at-bats. For Johnson, that time to step up is now.

The Brazilian National Team was presented with the key to the municipality of Bernards, where it has been based since arriving in the United States for the World Cup. The symbolic item was handed over this Thursday (1st) in a ceremony at City Hall, attended by Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy and Seleção delegation chief Leomar Quintanilha.
In the resolution published, the municipality said it was “honored” to have welcomed the Brazilian National Team’s players, coaching staff, and supporters, and highlighted that it will forever commemorate in the community the presence of one of the “most successful and admired teams in the history of world football.”
Brazil landed in the United States exactly one month ago, on June 2. Since then, the team has been staying at The Ridge hotel, located in Basking Ridge, a district of Bernards. In its first few days there, in an event organized jointly with FIFA, the team welcomed local residents to watch a training session and interact with the players.

The Kentucky Wildcats used to be a powerhouse of top-five picks, but that could be the days of old. Nonetheless, when the news broke that they were adding Jayden Quaintance for this past season, he was widely expected to be their next top-ten selection to the NBA. However, last season certainly didn't go as planned for all parties.
JQ, who suffered a torn ACL in February of 2025, missed the bulk of the season and played in just four games. Not only did that raise suspicions as to how his health could hold up long term, but it didn't do anything positive for his stock like competing could have. He ended up averaging just five points and five rebounds per game throughout those four games, shooting 57.1% from the field.
Still, many expected him to be a lottery pick. Quintance's stock has been falling, and there's a chance he drops out of the first round. However, USA Today's Bryan Kalbrosky expected the potential star big man to be in the mid-to-late first round. In an updated 2026 NBA Mock Draft, he has Quaintance selected 23rd overall by the Atlanta Hawks.
"The big man is still one of the youngest players in this class, though, and he showed elite flashes during his time at Arizona State and Kentucky. When healthy, he is arguably the most talented defender in this draft class and could help a team that may need frontcourt help, like the Hawks.... While his draft stock is not what it once was due to health concerns, his youth and frame give him an opportunity to become a special player in the NBA," Kalbrosky wrote.
Quaintance played his freshman season at Arizona State, and that's really where he started to shine prior to that injury. The jury is out on just how good he could be, and in the late first round, he could be one of the draft's steals.

Sandy Alcantara has posted the greatest volume of any pitcher in baseball to this point of the 2026 season, a welcome trend among fantasy baseball players. As the MLB trade deadline approaches, trade rumors involving the Miami Marlins star continue to heat up.
The Marlins have posted a modest 35-36 record to this point of the season, but are expected to be active ahead of the August deadline. Alcantara, 30, is regarded as one of the team's top trade chips and could help the team bring in long-term contributors in a potential return.
Alcantara has carved out 15 starts already this year, posting a 4.25 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 971 innings. He's shown flashes of his previous form pre-Tommy John surgery, and has rebounded encouragingly after a turbulent 2025 campaign. The former Cy Young winner will offer valuable contributions to an established playoff contender, potentially bolstering his fantasy baseball outlook over the remainder of the season.
Plenty of postseason contenders will consider making a move for Alcantara, but the San Diego Padres could present the most ideal fit for Alcantara in fantasy baseball. Let's explore a mock trade that sends the two-time All-Star to San Diego:
Miami receives Ethan Salas, Jorge Quintana, Tucker Musgrove

After a quick four-game series split against the Giants in Milwaukee, the Brewers are headed out west for a three-game set in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. The Crew sits at 37-23 on the season, five games ahead of the Cardinals and Pirates atop the NL Central as of this writing. On the other side, the Rockies are coming off back-to-back series wins over the Giants and Angels, moving them to 24-39 on the season, still in last place in the NL West.
While several key players have returned for the Brewers in recent weeks, they had a string of injuries in Thursday’s series finale against the Giants, as both DL Hall and Grant Anderson exited. Hall has already been ruled out for the road trip, as he’ll remain in Milwaukee to undergo an MRI scan as he deals with left subscapular/pectoral discomfort. Anderson, who took a liner off his right arm, is reportedly day-to-day with a contusion after X-rays were negative. Lefty Rob Zastryzny, who returned from the IL last weekend, went right back on the shelf with a trap strain, and he’s out until at least late June. Right-hander Brandon Woodruff is close to returning, as is outfielder Brandon Lockridge, who is on the verge of a rehab **** ignment. Right-hander Quinn Priester is now rehabbing with the ACL Brewers as he continues to deal with the effects of thoracic outlet syndrome. Right-hander Logan Henderson and left-hander Jared Koenig are also expected to return in the coming weeks.
For Colorado, they also have a few day-to-day injuries, as TJ Rumfield is dealing with a nagging shoulder issue, and Tyler Freeman is dealing with shin soreness. Outfielders Jordan Beck, Mickey Moniak, and Brenton Doyle are also out, with Moniak the closest to returning, potentially as soon as this weekend. DH Kris Bryant continues to be plagued by injuries, as he hasn’t played a single game this season. On the pitching side, RJ Petit (2027), McCade Brown (TBD), Jose Quintana (second half), Chase Dollander (TBD), Victor Vodnik (TBD), Jimmy Herget (mid-June), and Welinton Herrera (TBD) are all out.
Jake Bauers is the first Brewer to hit double-digit homers this year, hitting his 10th of the season earlier this week. Brice Turang has seven homers, while Jackson Chourio’s two-homer game in Thursday’s series finale brings him to four for the year, tied with William Contreras and Christian Yelich.
