Call it a B-spec, call it a heavily revised AMR26, call it whatever you want – what Aston Martin rolled out at the Hungaroring for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix is, by any reasonable engineering standard, a new Formula 1 car. Sixteen separate components were declared upgraded, mechanics broke FIA curfew to get both cars fitted in time, and the team reportedly flew spare parts to Budapest just to guarantee Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll could each run the full package. That is not a development update. That is a rebuild.
The backstory is by now well-documented and not particularly flattering. Adrian Newey didn't get serious work underway on the AMR26 until mid-March 2025, and the wind tunnel didn't see a model until mid-April – three months behind rivals who were already deep into the new regulatory cycle. The car that arrived at pre-season testing in Barcelona was overweight, paddock insiders estimated by somewhere between 10 and 15 kilograms, maybe more, and the Honda power unit was generating vibrations severe enough to rattle onboard cameras loose and leave Alonso and Stroll visibly fighting the steering wheel.
At the Australian opener, Alonso qualified 2.462 seconds off the pace. Both cars retired when the vibrations damaged the battery systems. It went largely sideways from there – one point across the opening ten rounds, tenth of eleven teams in the constructors' standings, behind only the expansion Cadillac outfit.
The nose is the clearest sign of how deep the changes go. Where the original AMR26 carried a wide, blunt front structure, the Hungary version features a noticeably thinner, more tapered profile – the kind of slender nose Newey has favoured since his early Red Bull years. That change alone cascades through the entire front end: new uprights, revised aerodynamic ducting, changed actuator mounting, and a completely reworked front wing with reshaped endplates. Per Newey, the forward section of the chassis was lightened to the point that it required a full re-homologation and fresh crash testing – which, depending on your definition, crosses the threshold from upgrade to new car.
Newey himself occupies both sides of that argument simultaneously. "The main structural elements remain the same – the chassis and gearbox architecture don't fundamentally change – but we've taken weight out of both, which required re-homologating and crash testing the forward chassis," he said. So: same architecture, new crash test. Make of that what you will.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their two children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit the childhood home of the Duke of Sussex's late mother, Princess Diana, during their recent European vacation, it has been revealed.
Meghan, 44, shared several photos from the family's recent trip overseas on her Instagram account, including one image that show her daughter, Lilibet, 5, walking through the grounds of Princess Diana's family estate, Althorp, holding what appears to be a tiny handbag and a blanket.
Harry, 41, and Archie, 7, are pictured strolling just a head of her, both carrying what seem to be bouquets of flowers.
Another snap appears to show Meghan reclining on a sun lounger next to the pool at the estate, cuddling the family's Beagle, Mamma Mia, who is thought to have traveled to Europe with them. Spencer's new wife, Cat Jarman, is seen in the background, along with her husband.
It's understood that the family were invited to the property by Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, who still owns the estate and resides there with his new wife. According to People magazine, the Sussexes "may have visited Diana's burial site, which is located on an island in the middle of the estate's Oval Lake."

Cadillac Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez believes Aston Martin's significant car update at this weekend's Hungarian GP will close the gap with his team.
Aston Martin has struggled massively with its AMR26, and with engine partner Honda also facing a steep development curve, the team decided to hold back its upgrades until it could bring enough performance to the car to lift it from the back of the grid.
That moment has now arrived in Budapest, with the AMR26 getting a facelift including a full aerodynamic overhaul and a weight reduction.
Paddock rumours vary on just how much of a laptime boost Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will get out of their new package, with some observers expecting the AMR to gain over two seconds per lap.
That type of gain will be necessary to threaten Cadillac and get off the last row of the grid. The fastest Cadillac was 1.6 seconds quicker in qualifying in Silverstone and 2.4s up in Belgium, although Honda's lack of power and deployment exaggerated that gap. In Barcelona and Spielberg, Aston Martin's deficit was just over a second, with the caveat that Cadillac has since also added performance to its MAC-26.

Carl McDaniel, 65, suffered multiple bone fractures in the July 10 attack at the national park but lived to tell the tale, as seen in a video he recorded a few days later from his bed at Bozeman Health Deaconess Medical Center in southern Montana.
"He wasn't showing aggression or anything like that until it picked a target. That target happened to be me," McDaniel said in the video posted on Instagram on Saturday.
McDaniel was on a after-dinner stroll with his grandson when the attack happened at Bridge Bay Campground, not far from Yellowstone Lake.
"They move faster than you could ever imagine. He just kept coming," he said. The bison did not connect with McDaniel's grandson, who was not hurt.

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York man who was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend as she pushed their baby in a stroller was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
A jury convicted Isaac Argro in May of murder in the 2022 death of Azsia Johnson. Prosecutors said Argro gunned her down on a street by a Manhattan playground after he persuaded her to meet so he could give her things for their 3-month-old daughter.
"Azsia Johnson was a loving parent who left an abusive relationship and began to rebuild her life. Her dreams of moving forward were brought to a horrific end" by Argro, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement.
A message seeking comment was sent to a lawyer for Argro, who is 26.
Prosecutors have said Argro physically and emotionally abused Johnson, 20. She ultimately left him but was "determined to give co-parenting a try," the D.A. said in a statement this spring.

Argentina don’t do it the easy way but if their defence of their World Cup is increasingly unconvincing, it goes on and on. Kansas City ended up bouncing like Buenos Aires, part of the Midwest resembling an Argentina home game, but euphoric scenes and a glorious goal stood in stark contrast to an utterly uninspired display.
They may not care. Not when they have a grudge match against England to concentrate the minds and a spectacular strike from Julian Alvarez to savour, arrowed into the top corner at the Arrowhead Stadium. Just when it seemed Argentina were hopelessly over-reliant on Lionel Messi, someone else delivered a moment of extreme quality. Then another Argentina centre-forward, Lautaro Martinez, gave the scoreline a flattering sheen in the 121st minute.
And yet it was really a tale of two strikers, neither of them Martinez. Alvarez, with his belated first goal of the World Cup, sent Argentina into a second successive semi-final. Breel Embolo may have cost Switzerland a first in their history. They had levelled and were the better side when his red card, eventual and involving VAR, for diving forced them into a rearguard action. They looked likely to hold out for penalties, Argentina seeming to have precious few ideas how to break them down, until Alvarez’s explosive intervention.
So, once again, Argentina advance in a manner that showed their spirit but highlighted flaws. Theirs looked as simple a route as could be imagined through the knockout stages – Cape Verde, Egypt, Switzerland – but they turned it into an obstacle course. They have twice gone to extra time, conceded five goals and flirted with elimination at each stage. But they can win games of brinkmanship.
Lionel Scaloni could at least point to his input here. The third goal involved two replacements, Martinez following up to score after Thiago Almada’s shot was blocked. The FIA has come down hard on Pierre Gasly, handing him a three-place grid penalty for Sunday's British Grand Prix after finding him guilty of impeding Lance Stroll during qualifying.
The stewards accepted that Gasly had been left without the usual radio warning because of a technical issue with the FOM equipment, a point that was confirmed during the hearing. They also took into account that he had been carrying out radio checks and believed the car behind was not on a timed lap.
Despite those mitigating circumstances, the stewards ruled that the lack of a radio warning did not remove the driver's responsibility to avoid impeding another car. After reviewing the available evidence, including the dashboard information available to Gasly, they concluded that he had unnecessarily impeded Stroll and imposed the standard three-place grid penalty. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll propped up the field in sprint qualifying at Silverstone on Saturday, finishing 21st and 22nd respectively – more than 3.5 seconds adrift of Lewis Hamilton‘s pole-setting Ferrari. For most teams, that would be a crisis. For Aston Martin right now, it was almost beside the point.
Adrian Newey spoke to Sky Sports F1 on the sprint grid and made no attempt to dress up where the team stands. The AMR26 has scored a single championship point across eight rounds in 2026, and the car that arrived at Silverstone is not the car the team believes it can build. Newey’s message was straightforward: don’t judge us yet. “A first phase of upgrades will arrive for Hungary and another one along with the Honda engine in Zandvoort,” he said.
The package Newey has been building toward is substantial. Per his own description to Sky Sports, the team has re-homologated and crash-tested a revised forward chassis after extracting meaningful weight from it, developed a new nose, and substantially reworked the aerodynamic surfaces. The rear suspension has been revised, though the core structure – gearbox architecture and chassis fundamentals – stays in place. Newey described it as “a big aerodynamic package coupled with significant weight reduction.”
One race later at Zandvoort, Honda brings its sole permitted mid-season power unit upgrade, targeting combustion chamber and pre-chamber improvements according to Honda’s general trackside manager Shintaro Orihara. The FIA’s ADUO regulations allow Honda two upgrades this season, and the Zandvoort unit represents their only mid-season token.
The decision to bank everything on a single large Hungary package rather than drip-feed incremental updates was, in Newey’s words, “painful but correct.” While that call has left Aston Martin getting eclipsed even by Cadillac – a team that didn’t exist in F1 twelve months ago – he argues the long-term logic holds.

Manchester United have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit of William Gomes, despite two new clubs entering an already red-hot race for the Brazilian winger.
Gomes has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in Liga Portugal after a superb season for FC Porto, who strolled to the ****** le with only two losses and 18 goals conceded.
The 20-year-old starlet, who has drawn comparisons to Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz, returned 13 goals and two ****** ists in all competitions, earning praise from Porto legend Pepe, who described him as an “incredible player, a very dedicated boy, who has spectacular ambition”.
However, it is Gomes’s all-round play, combining electric speed and dizzying dribbling, which has really made him shine since a €10 million move from Sao Paulo last year.
Porto included an €80m (£69m) release clause in his contract at the Estádio do Dragão, which runs until 2029. Francesco Farioli considers the youngster, who operates primarily on the right but can play on the opposite flank, a key member of his squad.

For as much success as Chesney had at James Madison, a CFP appearance was about as far as the Dukes could push it against Power Four competition. While UCLA hasn’t accomplished much of anything in the CFP era, the belief is that under Chesney, UCLA can return to national relevance.
Chesney entered Westwood with more playoff appearances than the UCLA program but there were still plenty of things about the Bruins program that enticed Chesney to lead UCLA. Chesney sat down with the Big Ten Conference Network about why he chose the Bruins.
“Everywhere I’d been prior to this, there were certain things, aspects, about that school that I liked. I liked the town that one was in, I liked the mentorship of the alums from another. I liked the education, at Johns Hopkins when I was there, it was the No. 1 pre-med school in the world,” Chesney said. “Then when I looked at UCLA, they had all of those things in one. That really was it for me.”
Chesney added that he can’t stroll through campus without feeling inspired.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — One is barely old enough to drive a car. The other is just old enough to drink alcohol. Neither were born when Retief Goosen won here in 2004. But on Saturday at the 2026 U.S. Open, amateurs Miles Russell and Jackson Koivun shared a tee time during the third round at Shinnecock Hills.
They were standing on side of the tee box on the opening hole (Russell is a left-hander so positions on the left), as I watched them getting ready to take on the wind of Saturday morning and couldn’t believe just how young the pair were. Russell, the No. 1 ranked junior golfer in the world, is 17, Koivun, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world, his elder at 21. Combined, they are the same age as Jason Day (38).
But this is the U.S. Open and both made the cut for the weekend at three over par. If there were nerves, they don’t show. Koivun dropped his ball down on the first tee, no tee, and hit a crisp 3-wood down the middle of the fairway.
With pro bags, college scorecard holders and high school faces, the pair strolled together on the front nine at Shinnecock, not talking a lot and already conducting themselves like professionals. Koivun is set to make his pro debut later this month, and has a PGA Tour card locked up through 2027.
His super power? Ask anyone that watched him play at Auburn the last three years and they’ll tell you it’s his putter. He showed it off early, holing a 20-footer for birdie on the fourth. However, 210-yard bunker shots are tricky, even for All-Americans. The 21-year-old topped his second shot on the sixth hole, barely trickling into a hazard and finishing the hole with a double bogey.

Once it was clear that Christian Pulisic’s calf could keep him out of Friday’s match against Australia, Mauricio Pochettino had a lot of options to consider. There is no like-for-like alternative to Pulisic, still the United States’ most important player.
Australia entered this game with a point to prove, wanting to build off of their opening win over Turkey with a statement result against the tournament co-hosts. It seemed like a risk for the US to forego their usual numbers in midfield, but it proved to be a gambit rather than a gamble as the US strolled to a 2-0 half-time lead they maintained until the final whistle.
“I feel like it opens up some **** es, of course, but you know it’s always good to be able to have two strikers,” Pepi said after his first World Cup start. “If the defenders are marking me, then the other [striker] is always free. So it’s a good thing that we were able to play like this, and it just shows what the team has.”
