The Chargers are less than a week away from the start of training camp, and the anticipation is building.
While most starting jobs and roster spots appear to be locked in at positions like quarterback, running back and safety, there are still several key roles that remain unsettled.
Those battles will begin to take shape in the coming weeks. Heading into training camp, here are the four biggest postion groups still unclear.
The left guard position will be one of the more intriguing battles entering training camp. The players fighting for the starting spot are veterans Kayode Awosika, Trevor Penning and second-round pick Jake Slaughter. Slaughter enters his first training camp having only played center at Flordia. Awosika appears to have the upper hand, as he received most of the work with the first-team offense during the spring.
While Omarion Hampton is locked in as the featured starter, who will secure the primary change-of-pace duties is a competition in its own. Free-agent acquisition Keaton Mitchell brings explosive, home-run speed that fits the scheme perfectly, but he faces a strong challenge from Kimani Vidal, who proved his reliability with a productive 643-yard season last year.

Dubai: UAE left-arm pacer Muhammad Rohid believes the ILT20 has transformed the landscape for local cricketers by creating a clear pathway from domestic cricket to the professional stage.

Rohid's rise gathered fresh momentum when MI Emirates secured his services for $140,000 at the league's first-ever player auction ahead of Season 4. The deal made him the fifth-most expensive signing of the auction and underlined the growing confidence franchises have in homegrown UAE talent.

For Rohid, however, the significance extends beyond the financial reward.

"The biggest thing the ILT20 has done is create a clear pathway for UAE players," Rohid said. "Young cricketers can now see that if you perform well, opportunities will come, whether it's with a franchise or the national team. That's incredibly inspiring, and I hope my journey encourages more youngsters to believe they can achieve their dreams."

The left-arm seamer credits MI Emirates for accelerating his development through exposure to some of the world's leading T20 players. One of the defining moments of his campaign came in Qualifier 2, when he was told just 10 minutes before the toss that he would be playing. Rohid responded with an impressive spell of 2 for 19, dismissing Brandon McMullen and Liam Livingstone under pressure.

"The biggest lesson I learnt was to stay ready because opportunities can come at any moment," he said. "The environment taught me to trust my preparation, stay calm under pressure and back my skills."

Sharing the dressing room with stars such as Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Shakib Al Hasan also proved invaluable.

"Watching how they prepare, train and handle pressure taught me a lot. The Chargers have all the tools they need to boast one of the best offenses in the league.
They hold one of the most talented quarterbacks in Justin Herbert, a young and dynamic running back in Omarion Hampton and an elite route runner in Ladd McConkey.
That trio is expected to do plenty of damage and establish itself as one of, if not the, best QB-RB-WR trios in the NFL. They'll have the opportunity to prove that this season, after being ranked outside the top 10 entering the year.
According to Jared Dubin of CBS Sports, Herbert, Hampton and McConkey sit just outside the top 10, at No. 11.
"Eight of the nine voters placed the Chargers ranked between eighth and 12th," Dubin wrote.

France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the first of this year’s World Cup quarterfinals. Here are four players who stood out from the match.
Without an official rooting interest, we will use this **** e — customarily reserved for a Bayern or Germany opponent of the day — to recognize the top effort on the losing team’s side.
In this case it could only be Bounou. A penalty save, a fingertip deflection, and more key interventions kept France from pasting his team in the first half. As it was, the inevitability could not be denied, but Bounou put it off for as long as he could.
We’ll forgive Upamecano for slicing that clearance that almost could have ended up in his own net. The Bayern Munich center-back was a defensive beast, providing a sense of stability against a Morocco attack that, in fairness, barely tried to **** ert itself outside of the odd transition. When they did try to send a ball in behind, Upamecano was there to charge it down and snuff out the chance.
The Bayern man was also highly involved in the build-up, even making 17 touches in the attacking third.

Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League and, this time, they look determined to stay there. After finishing second in the Championship and bouncing straight back following relegation from the 2024/25 top-flight campaign, the club have wasted little time reshaping the squad for another crack at survival.
The managerial change is the first major shift. Kieran McKenna moved on after delivering promotion, and Gary O’Neil has arrived on a three-year deal. It is a practical appointment. He knows the division, he knows the demands, and he knows that sentiment does not keep you up. Squad depth does.
Photo: IMAGO
That is where this transfer window starts to matter. Ipswich have already brought in Cedric Kipre from Stade Reims and Chuba Akpom from Ajax, two additions aimed at adding experience and options at both ends of the pitch. Now, according to Give Me Sport, they are closing in on a third arrival, and it is a significant one.
The report states that Ipswich have agreed a £20 million deal with Toulouse for striker Emersonn. If completed, it would match the club-record fee previously paid for Jaden Philogene and Omari Hutchinson. For a club in Ipswich’s position, that tells you plenty. They are not shopping for cover, they are investing in a profile.

FRISCO, TX — Defensive lineman C.J. Fite and wide receiver Omarion Miller have been selected to the All-Big 12 preseason team released Monday, July 6. The team was unveiled in conjunction with the annual Big 12 Football Media Days to be held at The Star on July 7-8.
Fite is one of three players on this year's ASU team who have been with Kenny Dillingham since his first days as head coach in Tempe, while Miller is a newcomer, having transferred to ASU from Colorado.
Miller is expected to pick up the slack left by the departure of first-round draft pick Jordyn Tyson.
Arizona had one selection, senior quarterback Noah Fifita.
Like last season, the conference did not release a team preseason poll.

‪Omari Sankofa II‬: Per source, last two years of John Collins' contract are non-guaranteed. Don't have the exact figures yet, but only first year is fully-guaranteed. Similar structure as Duncan Robinson's deal last season. Creating cap ******* e would mean the Pistons have to waive Robinson. There's more to map out, but I do think they have a path to sign Collins while also keeping Robinson. We'll see how it plays out

Neymar celebrates one of his four goals in the 4-0 rout of ****** an, in a friendly in Singapore, on October 14, 2014Credits: Rafael Ribeiro/CBF
On October 14, 2014, Neymar joined a select group of Brazil players after scoring all four goals in the rout of ****** an, this Monday’s (29) opponent in the World Cup round of 32. In a friendly in Singapore, he became the eighth player to score at least four times for the Seleção in matches against national teams, joining Evaristo de Macedo, Zizinho, Ademir Menezes, Julinho Botelho, Zico, Careca and Romário.
In the match, the No. 10 will face again the opponent against whom he delivered one of his most memorable performances. With nine goals, he is also the top scorer in meetings between Brazil and the Blue Samurai. Besides the 2014 clash, he scored two in the 4-0 win in 2012, opened the scoring in the 3-0 victory in the opening match of the 2013 Confederations Cup, scored once in the 3-1 win in 2017, and netted the winner in the 1-0 victory in 2022.
The only player in history to score five goals for Brazil against another national team is Evaristo de Macedo. The Brazilian football legend reached that mark in the 9-0 win over Colombia on March 24, 1957, in the Copa América, in Lima, Peru — Didi (2), Pepe and Zizinho completed the scoreline.

EA Sports is holding its rating release week as the lead-up to the launch of its new installment, College Football 27. On Monday, I saw the rankings of the toughest places to play, and on Tuesday, we'll get the full overall ratings for every school in the upcoming video game.
It is worth noting that teams typically receive different ratings in the game's play-now and dynasty modes. These initial ratings are strictly for the play now mode, with dynasty mode ratings becoming available when the game releases worldwide on July 9.
Colorado's rating in play-now mode is 81 overall (No. 35 nationally), with an 81 offensive rating and an 82 defensive rating. That is down from an 82 overall last year.
Considering Colorado's talent level is tough to have increased this offseason, it is surprising to see the Buffaloes drop in overall rating, albeit just a notch. The departures of highly rated players Jordan Seaton and Omarion Miller certainly did not help, especially with Seaton being one of the highest rated players in the game a year ago.
Texas Tech, at 87 overall, tops the Big 12, with BYU (86), Houston (83), Oklahoma State (83) and Arizona (82) rounding out the top 5. Colorado comes in right after Arizona State (81) as the seventh-highest rated Big 12 program, surprisingly ahead of Utah (81). West Virginia (78), Iowa State (77) and Kansas (77) are the three lowest-rated teams in the Big 12.

The NFL offseason is often defined by roster building and contract disputes. While it’s unclear whether he’ll hold out during training camp, Jalen Carter has already been holding in during Philadelphia Eagles minicamp. A recent report suggests this contract situation won’t be resolved quickly. In fact, it could become contentious if Carter’s camp decides to push the issue.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Eagles are not only in no rush to extend Carter. They are also hesitant to seriously engage in negotiations at this stage. Carter underwent offseason surgery on both shoulders. The team may want to see him return to form before committing to a long-term deal.

“[The Eagles] are hesitant to pay him,” Breer wrote in a Q&A response regarding Carter’s contract situation.
“Philadelphia is telling you what you need to know with its actions. The Eagles have always been aggressive paying their own, in large part because they know that the earlier you do the deal, the better the price you’ll get.”

ELKHART LAKE – When Nolan Siegel left World Wide Technology Raceway he thought he had a good idea of what caused the wreck that put him out of the Bomarito Auto Group 500 but wanted to do a deeper dive.
The third-year NTT IndyCar Series driver had the opportunity to watch replays of the contact from championship leader Alex Palou in the day and a half that followed and came to essentially the same conclusion.
“I'm sure he didn't do anything intentionally. I think it was just unnecessary, to be perfectly honest,” Siegel said June 9 during a test at Road America ahead of the XPEL Grand Prix on June 21.
“We weren't racing each other. I was going to just fall in behind him. He went straight to, like, lane 2 ½ when he knows that I can't run higher than him. He kind of put me in a position where I was going to end up in the wall either way for really no gain. Not entirely sure why that decision was made.”
Siegel said he hadn’t had a chance to talk yet with the Palou, the four-time and defending series champion, who was not among the 13 drivers at the test.

Despite having a decent 2025 campaign as a fill-in for RB Omarion Hampton, a Kimani Vidal trade could be possible after the Los Angeles Chargers overhauled its offense and ground game. The team signed Keaton Mitchell to add some extra speed that would fit into the new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s new scheme. There’s a chance that Vidal could be the “odd man out” in this situation if this new offense works for Mitchell and Hampton this upcoming season. Although the future is still bright for the former sixth-round pick, he might not have a huge role after the 2026 season.
“Despite his contributions in the previous season, Vidal could drop to No. 3 on the depth chart if Mitchell flashes his pre-ACL-injury quickness,” Moe Moton of Bleacher Report said. “If Vidal falls out of favor in McDaniel’s offense, the Chargers may look to deal him to a team that needs to bolster its backfield committee.”
At the same time, **** ody should believe that the Chargers would trade Vidal. He’s proven that he can be reliable, and it would be hard to replace him after just two seasons in the league. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh joined the Chargers a few years ago and selected the RB for the sole reason of winning football games with a strong run game.
However, that could change when McDaniel takes the lead. Vidal shouldn’t have any worries, though, since Mitchell hasn’t proved that he can stay healthy. The same can be said about Hampton, who started just nine games last year. Unless a miracle and a breakout season come from Hampton and Mitchell at the same time, they shouldn’t move the former 2024 draft selection.
Although no one should rule out the fact that he could get pricey come contract negotiations, the Chargers won’t have to worry about that anytime soon, but the team has been reluctant to sign superstars to at least boost their pass-attack and defense. One can argue that the team could be the same way with their RB. They still believe in Hampton, and if Mitchell has a decent season, they could use Vidal as a trade chip at the right price.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jen Pawol, who made history last year as the first woman umpire in the major leagues, worked her first big league game of the season Friday night.
She was behind home plate as the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Los Angeles Angels.
Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani greeted her leading off the bottom of the first inning as he customarily does with the umpire in each of his at-bats.
Pawol, 49, umpired during spring training for the third straight year but she did not get one of the permanent staff openings. Instead, she is part of MLB's call-up list.
She became the first female major league umpire on Aug. 9, 2025, and worked a total of five big league games last season. In 2024, she became the first woman to umpire big league spring training games since Ria Cortesio in 2007. Pawol has been a minor league ump since 2016 and has worked at Triple-A since 2023.
