India is all set to take on Afghanistan in the opening T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, September 13.
Shreyas Iyer's side looking to build momentum after a mixed white-ball summer that included series defeats in Ireland and England.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan will be hoping to avenge defeat in the one-off Test at Mullanpur earlier this year. Ibrahim Zadran's side has the perfectly volatile combination of a spin-heavy bowling attack and a batting lineup that's still trying to figure out their place.
With Jasprit **** rah and Washington Sundar also cleared just this week, India will be keen to prepare mentally for the upcoming Asian Games and New Zealand. The venue will also play a big part in the match.
Arun Jaitley Stadium has hosted only a handful of T20Is despite its status as one of India's most-used grounds across formats, and their most recent appearance produced one of the highest totals ever recorded there when India piled up 209 against Namibia in February 2026.

Charlie Theron had a surprising response to fans expecting her to discuss Tom Hardy. The actress reflected on filming Mad Max: Fury Road instead. Theron shared a sweet memory involving her daughter and costars. She then jokingly told the crowd, "Shame on you!"
Theron recently appeared at a screening of Mad Max: Fury Road. She spoke to an audience at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The actress was asked whether she had positive memories from filming.
"I actually do, okay!" Theron replied as the audience laughed. The reaction appeared connected to her widely reported on-set difficulties. Theron and Tom Hardy reportedly struggled to get along during production.
However, Theron chose to share a much sweeter memory. Her oldest daughter was only six weeks old during filming. As a single mother, Theron said she did not bring a nanny.
"All of the girls in this film and Nick Hoult basically raised her," Theron recalled. The cast spent six months filming in Namibia. Her daughter remained close to the production throughout that time.

South Africa continued their strong run in the Namibia T20I Tri-Series with another convincing victory over Zimbabwe, securing a comfortable 43-run win in the fourth match at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius narrowly missed out on a maiden T20I century but produced a career-best 94 to set up South Africa's second victory over Zimbabwe in the tournament. The opener's sensational knock came off just 51 ******* and featured 12 fours and three sixes.

Pretorius was named Player of the Match after helping South Africa post 185/7 before their bowlers completed the job by dismissing Zimbabwe for 142 in 17.4 overs.
Put into bat, South Africa made an aggressive start, with Pretorius anchoring the innings and playing a key role in two partnerships of more than 50 runs for the first two wickets.

He found an able partner in Dewald Brevis, who struck 41 off 27 ******* , as the Proteas built a strong platform. Zimbabwe did manage to fight back with regular wickets towards the latter stages, but South Africa had already done enough damage to reach a competitive 185/7.

Pretorius fell six runs short of a century, but the opener insisted the team victory mattered more than his individual milestone.

"Yeah, that's fine. I'm just glad we got over the line. Milestones will come and go, and yeah, it wasn't meant to be today, but I was just glad because we said at the 14-over mark we wanted to get to 200, and I knew if I got the team to 200 I'd get to the milestone. But yeah, I think milestones come and go, and today was not meant to be, but we won, so it's good," Pretorius said.
Zimbabwe needed 186 for victory but struggled to maintain momentum after a promising beginning from Brian Bennett.

Their powerplay was derailed by a double-wicket maiden from captain Bjorn Fortuin, and South Africa struck again soon after the fielding restrictions ended.

Duan Jansen produced a decisive burst, taking three wickets in four ******* across two overs to leave Zimbabwe in serious trouble.

Captain Sikandar Raza offered some resistance with 45 off 33 ******* , while Newman Nyamhuri added 27 with some aggressive hitting. But the pair could only reduce the eventual margin of defeat as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 142.

Fortuin was the standout bowler, finishing with 4/24 from 3.4 overs, while Jansen claimed 3/21. The pair shared seven wickets between them as South Africa repeatedly struck at crucial moments.

The result gives South Africa their second win over Zimbabwe in the tri-series, with Pretorius' near-century and a disciplined bowling performance combining to secure another comprehensive victory.

Marnus Labuschagne has been left out of Australia's ODI squad for the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, raising more questions about his future in the national team.

The batter had a poor run during Australia's recent ODI series in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Although he finished the Bangladesh campaign with an unbeaten 55 after being moved down the batting order, it was not enough to secure his place.

With Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh returning, Australia's selectors decided to leave Labuschagne out. His omission could also affect his chances of playing in the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa, especially after his disappointing performances against Bangladesh.

The six ODIs against Zimbabwe and South Africa are important for Australia's preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in Zimbabwe, while Pat ****** mins will join the team for the South Africa leg. ****** mins and Marsh could share captaincy duties depending on ****** mins' workload. Mitchell Starc will return for the South Africa matches, while Josh Hazlewood has been selected for both series.

Australia's ODI squad:Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Pat ****** mins (SA only), Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Marsh, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc (SA only), Adam Zampa.
New South Wales all-rounder Joel Davies has received his first ODI call-up after impressing in the T20I series against Bangladesh. Left-handed batter Ollie Peake has also kept his place.

Australia have added fast bowlers Spencer Johnson and Billy Stanlake. Johnson returns after recovering from a lengthy injury, while Stanlake recently ended a more than seven-year wait for another international appearance.

Cooper Connolly will remain with the ODI squad after his impressive 149 against Bangladesh.

The Zimbabwe series starts on September 15 in Harare, followed by matches on September 18 and 20. Australia will then play South Africa on September 24, 27 and 30.

Norway's energy major Equinor hopes to make a "pretty big" oil discovery offshore Namibia, the global exploration hotspot it has just entered, a senior company official said on Tuesday.
Equinor hopes that the Petroleum Exploration License 90 (PEL 90) offshore Namibia could hold a big discovery similar to those TotalEnergies and Galp have made in recent years in the same Orange basin, Philippe Mathieu, Executive Vice President, Exploration & Production International, at Equinor, told reporters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Norway's city of Stavanger.
A week ago, the Norwegian oil and gas major entered the Namibian exploration rush by signing an agreement with Harmattan Energy Limited, a Chevron subsidiary in Namibia, to buy a 17.4% participating interest in Petroleum Exploration License 90 (PEL 90) in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.
The deal with the U.S. supermajor marks Equinor's entry into Namibia, and the license provides access to a drill-ready prospect scheduled for testing in 2026, the Norwegian company said last week.
"This transaction aligns with our strategy to strengthen and replenish our international portfolio through focused and disciplined growth," Mathieu said last week.

NEW DELHI: For a team with two ODI World Cup ***** les, West Indies have found themselves in an unfamiliar position again. The Caribbean side will not qualify automatically for the 2027 World Cup and must now negotiate the qualifying route to make the tournament in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

It is the third straight World Cup cycle in which West Indies have been pushed into the qualifiers, underlining the difficult road the former champions now face.

The immediate challenge is the 2027 World Cup Qualifier in February, where West Indies will be joined by Ireland, four teams from the Cricket World Cup League 2 and four sides emerging from the Qualifier Playoff.
West Indies cannot secure one of the automatic qualification spots before the September 30 cut-off. They are currently 10th in the ODI rankings, and even two victories over India before the deadline would not be enough to move them into the required bracket.

That leaves the Qualifier as their route into the World Cup.

The tournament carries an important incentive: win it, and West Indies go straight into the second round of the 2027 World Cup.

But finishing between second and fourth would leave them with another hurdle. Those three teams will enter the first round of the World Cup, the Super Series, alongside another Qualifier team. Only the winner of that stage will progress to the second round.

In other words, West Indies have little room for error. Winning the Qualifier would provide the cleanest route, while anything less could mean another high-pressure battle for survival.
The Caribbean side already know what happens when the Qualifier campaign goes wrong.

West Indies failed to make the 2023 World Cup through direct qualification and subsequently finished fifth in the Super Six stage of the Qualifier. The result was historic for the wrong reasons: they missed a World Cup for the first time.

The consequences extended beyond that tournament. West Indies also failed to feature in the 2025 Champions Trophy, a competition they had not played since 2013.

Now, with another World Cup qualification campaign ahead, the former two-time champions face a familiar test. This time, the objective is simple: navigate the qualifiers successfully and ensure they are back on cricket's biggest ODI stage in 2027.

Duan Jansen, twin brother of South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen, has earned his maiden senior call-up and could make his international debut during South Africa's upcoming white-ball tour of Namibia.

The 15-member squad, led by experienced spinner Bjorn Fortuin, will play a T20I tri-series involving Namibia and Zimbabwe before taking on Namibia in a historic three-match ODI series.
The T20I tri-series will be played in Windhoek from August 28 to September 6, followed by three ODIs against Namibia from September 9 to 13. The ODI series will be the first bilateral 50-over contest between the two neighbouring countries.

Duan's selection comes after an impressive 2025/26 domestic season. He was named Division 1 One Day Cup Player of the Year and played a key role in helping the ****** ans win the ****** le, scoring an unbeaten 61 in the final against the Lions.

Eathan Bosch is the other uncapped T20I player, while Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann and Nqobani Mokoena have received their first ODI call-ups.

"We've selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps. We saw glimpses of what Connor and Nqobani can offer during the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. It was unfortunate that Jordan picked up an injury in the opening match of that series, so we're looking forward to seeing him get another opportunity at this level."
Coach Shukri Conrad said using the same squad for both formats would give the players greater continuity and valuable international exposure. Nationally contracted players Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi and Kwena Maphaka will provide additional experience.

"This tour has also opened the door for players who have performed domestically. Duan is one of those players. He is a quality all-rounder who has also shown great character for the ****** ans. Bjorn is an experienced player and proven leader who has successfully captained the Lions, and we have every confidence in his ability to lead this group. It is always exciting to play against our neighbouring countries, and the first-ever ODI series between South Africa and Namibia adds further significance, especially as we build towards next year's World Cup," he added.

South Africa are scheduled to leave Johannesburg for Windhoek on August 25.

Namibia is rapidly emerging as Africa's next major oil producer while neighboring South Africa, which controls roughly two-thirds of the same Orange Basin petroleum province, remains years behind in developing essentially the same petroleum system. The Orange Basin, an offshore deepwater petroleum province spanning the Atlantic maritime border between the two countries, is estimated to contain more than 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Yet while Namibia has attracted a succession of world-class discoveries and moved rapidly toward commercial development, South Africa has struggled to translate the same geological opportunity into producing **** ets.
TotalEnergies' (NYSE:TTE) deepwater Venus Project in offshore Namibia now targets an initial production capacity of roughly 150,000 barrels of oil per day, with first oil aimed for 2030. Venus-1X is estimated to contain 1.5 billion barrels of light crude and 4.8 trillion cubic feet of gas. TotalEnergies has also taken over operations of the massive Mopane discovery from Portugal's Galp Energia (OTCPK:GLPEF).
Last month, Shell Plc (NYSE:SHEL) and its JV partners reported a major oil discovery at the Merlin-1X exploration well within Petroleum Exploration Licence 39 (PEL 39). Located in Namibia's Orange Basin roughly 290 kilometers off the coast, the resource has recoverable reserves estimated at 750 million barrels for Phase 1. The success of Merlin-1X marks a critical turnaround for the consortium.
In early 2025, Shell booked a $400 million impairment on its Namibian offshore portfolio following engineering hurdles at older discovery wells with complex geology and high gas-to-oil ratios, including Graff-1X and Jonker-1X. Those challenges had initially slowed commercialization plans, but the Merlin-1X discovery has significantly improved the outlook for the company's Namibian acreage.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday officially unveiled the 12 host venues for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, confirming the cities across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia that will stage the 50-over showpiece when it returns to Africa for the first time in 24 years.

The announcement was made during a grand ceremony in Johannesburg, where the ICC also revealed the tournament's official brand identity, 'Three Nations, One Heartbeat', symbolising the shared spirit of optimism, diversity and unity among the three co-hosts.

The 14th edition of the World Cup will feature 57 matches and 14 teams, with eight cities in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe, and Namibia's capital Windhoek selected as host venues.

The tournament marks Africa's first Men's ODI World Cup since the 2003 edition, which was jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya.
ICC chairman Jay Shah described the venue announcement as a major milestone on the road to the global tournament.

"This marks an exciting milestone on the road to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027. The unveiling of the host cities and the tournament brand signals the start of a journey that will unite fans around the world and build anticipation for one of our sport's biggest global events," he said.

Gupta added that the tournament's vibrant branding reflects the energy of the host nations while inspiring future generations of fans.
The 2027 edition will be built around the African philosophy of 'Ubuntu' — "I am, because we are" — and the campaign theme 'Make the Circle Bigger', celebrating compassion, togetherness and cultural diversity across the region's 29 officially recognised languages.

The tournament logo draws inspiration from the traditional African wire bowl, while its colour palette includes shades such as Zimbabwe Chilli, African Root, Fynbos Pop, Namib Dune, Harare Dawn and Two Oceans.

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has thrown his weight behind Indian batting icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, insisting that both veterans still have plenty left in the tank and should be part of India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The legendary Pakistan batter, popularly known as the 'Asian Bradman', dismissed concerns surrounding the duo's age and said their skill, experience and continued ability to score runs make them automatic contenders for the marquee tournament, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

"Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don't see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs," news agency PTI quoted Zaheer as saying on a Pakistani television channel.
Zaheer, regarded as one of Pakistan's finest batters after scoring more than 100 first-class centuries during his illustrious career, believes Kohli and Rohit possess qualities that only grow stronger with time.

According to the former Pakistan skipper, scoring runs becomes second nature for players of their calibre after spending years at the highest level, while their experience remains invaluable in major ICC tournaments.

He also ******* sed the fitness of the two Indian greats, saying Kohli continues to maintain exceptional physical standards.

"Kohli is still supremely fit, while Rohit just needs to pay a little more attention to his fitness," Zaheer observed.

The Pakistan great added that India would benefit immensely from having both veterans in the dressing room during the 2027 World Cup campaign.

His remarks come at a time when speculation over the future of India's senior stars continues despite both producing match-winning performances in the ODI format.
Zaheer reserved special praise for Rohit after watching the former Indian captain's recent century against England, saying the opener's batting remains a delight to watch.

"I watched Rohit score a hundred against England, and it is still a pleasure to watch him bat. He plays so effortlessly and with such sweet timing," he said.

Rohit's knock against England once again underlined his credentials in the 50-over format, while Kohli has also continued to deliver consistently, strengthening the argument that the experienced pair could still play a crucial role at the next World Cup.

Reflecting on the changing nature of modern cricket, Zaheer acknowledged that T20 cricket has introduced several innovative strokes into the game. However, he insisted that the fundamentals remain just as important, saying every batter aspiring to succeed across formats must master traditional shots like the cover drive and the cut shot.

The former Pakistan captain also spoke about his country's cricketing future, expressing confidence that better days lie ahead.

"Hopefully, the return of Babar Azam as Test captain will turn thing
