GREER, S.C. - Greer High School senior running back Calvin McCoy has built his game around a simple motto Head Football Coach Will Young shares with his players: "Earned, not given."
He first stepped onto a football field to help manage anger issues. At the time, he was a bigger kid playing tackle. Years later, he's transformed into one of the Upstate's most productive running backs, helping lead the Yellow Jackets with the same philosophy that's printed across the program.
"It's on our shirts that we have... 'Earned, not given,'" said McCoy. "You got to work for everything. Everything is not going to be a handout."
The motto reflects McCoy's path through the program. After beginning his career on the offensive line, McCoy eventually moved into the backfield when Greer needed someone to step up.
"I actually played tackle. I was a little bit bigger," said McCoy. "When our players went down, I really just had to step up to the next man."

Bayonne's fans at O.J. Mac's made sure their boys in Williamsport, Pennsylvania could feel the love nearly 200 miles away. The watch party was brimming with Bayonne maroon.
Bayonne got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd with a man on second and third and one out, scoring on a wild pitch.

Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman opened fall camp with a news conference Tuesday at Notre Dame Stadium, addressing a number of topics for a team that checks in at No. 5 in the preseason coaches poll.
Here are six things we heard from Freeman, safety Adon Shuler and linebacker Drayk Bowen as the Irish prepare to dive into practices this month.
Freeman instituted the motto in the winter when Notre Dame missed the College Football Playoff despite finishing with a 10-2 record. Bowen said the players understand that means they "can't leave your future in the hands of others" — and that is driving how they work.
While "Leave No Doubt" links back to the CFP snub, Freeman said he tells his team to stop thinking and talking about the playoffs — to lock in on the moment instead.
"When your mind is thinking about something that isn't right in front of you, you create bad habits," Freeman said. "You create complacency, and it's important that every time we think about last year, 2024, the future, it's a trigger to remind us to take care of what we have right in front of us, and that's this moment."

He played four seasons for Tennessee basketball, and left as the program's all-time leader in **** ists (747) and steals (251), averaging 11.3 points, 5.4 **** ists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals across 138 games from 2021 to 2025. He earned two SEC Defensive Player of the Year awards and three All-SEC selections, and became the first player in conference history with four SEC All-Defensive Team honors.

The Carolina Panthers took the field in front of a stadium full of fans for the first time this season on Friday night.
It was their first open practice of training camp, and fans got a peek at what's in store this year.
Players got in reps while 6-year-old Asher Harvey ran in a walk-off touchdown. Ashe, who is battling through congenital heart disease, signed a one-day contract through Make-A-Wish.
"What a crowd. It was amazing. Came out early, were out there the whole time," Head Coach Dave Canales said about Friday's crowd.
"Pack the bank, that's our motto. Continue to win. Continue to build up this culture," wide receiver Jalen ***** er added.

The Phoenix Suns formally introduced forward Miles Bridges on Wednesday, July 22, and between general manager Brian Gregory and Bridges himself, they openly discussed and answered every question put forth to them during their media availability at the team’s performance center.
In the spirit of the Suns’ boastful motto about “alignment,” “accountability,” “culture” and making their fan base always feel like “family,” it was essentially a slam dunk.
Bridges and Gregory were brutally honest regarding the trade that brought Bridges to Phoenix from the Charlotte Hornets, and addressed the positives as well as the negatives — namely the serious felony domestic violence charge leveled against Bridges in 2022.

The most-watched man in America right now is a 39-year-old from Rosario, Argentina, who barely raises his voice. The World Cup is here, on our own soil for the first time — the United States, Canada and Mexico — and Lionel Messi is playing as the defending champion in his sixth tournament. He does not trash talk. He does not pound his chest. He leads from behind, they say, which is a polite way of saying he lets the ball and the trophies do the talking.
Messi has won the thing men spend their whole lives arguing about, eight Ballon d'Ors, a World Cup, more or less every honor the game can hand a person, and he has done it while looking, most of the time, like a shy man who would rather be home. He is the best argument I know against everything the U.S. is currently trying to sell boys about what a man is.
Because at the same moment, on the same screens, a truck company is selling the opposite. Ram Trucks released an ad this year called "In Loud We Trust." The voice growling over it belongs to Dana White, the president and CEO of the UFC, who does donuts in a blacked-out performance truck while the slogan lands. In loud we trust: A play, in case you missed it, on the words printed on our money. In God we trust, swapped out for an engine. The sacred traded for the subwoofer. The commercial arrived tied to a UFC fight card staged on the White House lawn, and plenty of people loved it. But plenty of people, including a lot of religious folks who did not appreciate their motto turned into a truck commercial, did not.
Here is what the ad is actually selling, underneath the flags and the engines and the whole ****** nal of American noise: masculinity as a thing you can purchase and perform. Not do. Perform. It is the same product professional wrestling has sold for decades, but at least the WWE has the honesty to admit the whole thing is staged. The truck ad wants you to believe the roar is real. That if you are loud enough, and your engine is big enough, and your grievance is hot enough, that is the same thing as being a man. It is not. It never has been.
The difference is backbone. Gusto is fine, even wonderful. Messi has gusto, and Paul Newman drove race cars; ****** ody is asking men to be quiet little mice. The problem is not volume. The problem is volume with nothing underneath it, noise offered as a substitute for the thing itself. Real masculinity is proven in the work, in the results, in the people you protect, and it does not need a camera to exist.

The UFC appears to have borrowed the informal motto of the U.S. Postal Service as its President and CEO Dana White dismissed concerns about the weather leading up to UFC Freedom 250, set to take place on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14.
