Jeff Klingelhofer, CFA, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager & Senior Research **** yst, Securitized **** ets at Aristotle Pacific didn't set out to be a bond guy but a launchpad at PIMCO, stops in Tokyo and London, and a Chicago MBA detour into a scrappy five-person hedge fund rewired how he thinks about fixed income. The internship stuck, with Klingelhofer building out Thornburg's taxable fixed income desk from employee #3 to Head of Investments, before joining Aristotle Pacific in 2024. The firm is a 15-year-old franchise (formerly Pacific **** et Management) now running roughly $16 billion and, as of July 30, three brand-new ETFs: the Aristotle Core Plus Income ETF (ARCP), the Aristotle Multi-Sector Income ETF (ARMS), and the Aristotle Short Term Income ETF (SDUR).
The pitch isn't about taking on more risk to boost returns but about capturing returns with minimal risk, and that means shopping across every fixed income silo instead of hunting inside one. Klingelhofer gives the example of February 2020, when American Airlines' corporate bond and its aircraft-backed EETC both priced at 3.75% with the same issuer, same tenor, same yield. A month later, COVID hit and the corporate bond cratered to 27 cents on the dollar while the EETC held at 65 cents. Same company, wildly different outcomes because Wall Street desks looked at each instrument in isolation instead of comparing across the capital stack. That's the whole Aristotle Pacific thesis, and it's why he sees the same mispricing setting up today in data center financing.
The three funds slot into that framework by risk level, with SDUR as a low-duration, active-credit alternative to cash, ARCP as a core-bond upgrade aiming to beat the Agg by 100-150bps, and ARMS as the full relative-value expression targeting 250bps over a cycle with real flexibility to shift credit quality. Macro-wise, Klingelhofer thinks the market is underestimating new Fed Chair Warsh, who, unlike his predecessor, inherits a purely high-inflation world with no disinflationary tailwind. It means the firm is positioning the funds slightly long duration as a hedge against credit risk elsewhere in the book. His closing advice to advisors was a cautionary and practical one, that they shouldn't expect Aristotle to work in every environment (no fund does), and to pair its bottom-up process with top-down managers like PIMCO so the two zig and zag differently throughout market cycles.

Apple (AAPL) investors have a major leadership transition to watch as John Ternus officially takes over as CEO on Sept. 1, succeeding Tim Cook after his 15-year tenure at the helm. Cook will remain closely involved as executive chairman, helping ensure continuity, but Ternus now inherits a company valued at trillions of dollars and facing a critical test of its next phase of growth.
For Apple stock investors, the timing could hardly be more important. Ternus, a longtime hardware engineering leader who has worked at Apple since 2001, steps into the CEO role just ahead of the company's Sept. 9 product event. At the event, Apple is expected to unveil its next generation of iPhones and potentially its first foldable iPhone. At the same time, Apple is under increasing pressure to accelerate its artificial intelligence strategy and deliver the kind of breakthrough innovation that can sustain its enormous valuation. Let's dig deeper to understand Apple's fundamentals that will potentially shape the Ternus era.

NEW YORK - At this point in a prolific season, Yordan Alvarez is contending with the standard he has set. For instance: Alvarez owns a .919 OPS in August, which is almost over. It's his second-lowest in a month this year. It would also rank fourth-highest among qualified hitters for the full season.
Alvarez snapped a 12-game stretch without a home run Saturday, in the Houston Astros' 6-2 loss to the Mets. His only longer drought this season preceded his last home run Aug. 14. He has two in his past 119 plate appearances. He still leads the American League with 37 and the majors with a 1.048 OPS.
Therein lies a conundrum Alvarez inherits. The Astros' inconsistent and top-heavy offense all but needs Alvarez to be otherworldly - and he regularly has. Saturday, their lineup managed four hits. Alvarez had two of them and drove in both of their runs. His .320 average is second among qualified MLB hitters.
But it would behoove ***** ody for Alvarez to compromise his abilities by overreaching in an attempt to carry the offense. Alvarez is too disciplined a hitter, anyway, and at times opponents do not even offer him the choice. That more consistency is needed from others to complement his exploits holds true.
Alvarez entered Saturday seeing 41.4% of pitches in the strike zone in August, his lowest rate in a month this season, per Baseball Savant. His chase rate was also his highest, by about 4%, perhaps reflecting the occasional attempt to make things happen for a sputtering offense at the season's critical stage.

Newcastle United host Liverpool at St James' Park on Sunday evening in Matthias Jaissle's first competitive match in charge, at the end of a summer defined by significant upheaval on Tyneside.
Jaissle arrives from Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League to replace Eddie Howe, who left the club after the start of pre-season. He inherits a squad that has sold Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon for a combined fee in excess of £240m, alongside the earlier departure of Kieran Trippier to Wolves.
Joelinton is the most notable absentee. Jaissle confirmed the midfielder is out with a groin injury but should return within a couple of weeks. Tino Livramento remains sidelined with a calf problem that forced him to withdraw from England's World Cup squad, and Fabian Schär is also being monitored for fitness. Lewis Miley made his first appearance since breaking his leg in last weekend's 2–1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, but whether he is ready to start remains uncertain.
Sean Steur is expected to be handed his full debut in central midfield, though fellow new signing Aladji Bamba offers a genuine alternative in the same role. Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman continue to bed in alongside captain Lewis Hall at the back. Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes provide the width, with Yoane Wissa operating just behind William Osula, who leads the line. Lukas Hornicek continues in goal, having established himself as the club's first-choice option this summer.
Newcastle United possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Hornicek; Dedic, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Ramsey, Steur; Elanga, Wissa, Barnes; Osula

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) picked a good week to hand over the keys. On August 6, the company said that CEO Ryan Lance will retire after 14 years, with CFO Andy O'Brien stepping in on September 1, right when ConocoPhillips had its best quarterly results since 2022. Adjusted profit came in at $3.24 a share, well ahead of the $2.88 Wall Street expected, and revenue jumped 32.4% to $19.5 billion.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) pulled off that strong quarter even as production slipped nearly 6% to 2.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, leaning instead on a 36% jump in realized prices to carry the results. O'Brien, a nearly 30-year company veteran, inherits a $7 billion free cash flow growth pledge through 2029 that depends heavily on finishing the pricey Willow oil project in Alaska. It is a project whose price tag has already climbed to $9 billion.
One of the company's rivals, Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) told a different story the week before. On July 31, the firm posted its biggest quarterly profit in four years at $14.7 billion, up 67% from the first quarter. It still came up short of the $3.60-per-share estimate with adjusted earnings of $3.52. Its shares fell 1% on the news.
So why did ConocoPhillips's win move the stock while Exxon's four-year-high profit left investors cold?

LONDON, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Meghan, the wife of Britain's Prince Harry, may be returning to acting with a role in the Netflix series "The Gentlemen," according to media reports on Friday.
The Hollywood Reporter said the ****** ss was in advanced talks to appear in a third season of the series created by Guy Ritchie. Another Hollywood publication, Deadline, said the discussions were "hypothetical," given that the show has not yet been renewed for a third season. The second season is scheduled to be released next month.
Deadline also said no role has been identified for Meghan, who starred in the U.S. cable TV drama "Suits" from 2011 to 2018. Netflix and a representative for Meghan and Harry declined to comment to Reuters.
The reports follow the surprise news that Harry, who stepped down from official duties in 2020, will return with Meghan and their two children to live in Britain from their current home in California.
Starring Theo James, "The Gentlemen" focuses on a man who unexpectedly inherits his family's country estate, only to discover that it is at the centre of a sprawling cannabis empire and Britain's criminal underworld.

EAST LANSING – While Pat Fitzgerald patrolled the football practice field Monday, Aug. 18, Michigan State had found his new boss. A little less than an hour later, after the first-year coach spoke to reporters, it became official.
Make no mistake: Dan Bartholomae's primary mission is to help get Fitzgerald's program back to competing for championships. And vice versa for the coach the Spartans' new athletic director inherits in the football-dominated new landscape of the Big Ten and college sports.
The first step in creating a relationship? From Fitzgerald's standpoint, "honesty, transparency" are essential.
"The ability to sit down and have hard conversations and create a plan," Fitzgerald said Monday before Bartholomae's hiring became official. "What does that mean? That means the next 12 months, the next 36 months, the next five years – what is our plan, where do we see our priorities? It's my job to help that person be better, in whatever that means. However they need me is what I'm gonna do.
"It's just like my ******* istant coaches to me. We have very honest, transparent conversations. And they're there to help me be the best head coach I can be. I'm here to take things off the AD's plate and make him be – or she be – the best AD possible."

Joe Root returns to the England captaincy and Headingley offers him a fittingly symbolic stage for his second act as England take on Pakistan.
Ben Stokes has retired, taking with him the balance he provided across bat and ball, while Root inherits a side still searching for identity after a bruising summer against New Zealand.
Pakistan's Caribbean triumph ended a miserable run without an away win and Babar Azam's troublesome hand has dominated the build-up.
England come into this series as deserved favourites, with conditions at Headingley only strengthening their case.
Home advantage has counted for plenty here down the years, and England's fast-bowling depth gives them several routes to unsettle Pakistan's top order. Jofra Archer has returned to something like his best, and his pace should trouble a batting line-up containing three left-handers who haven't always looked entirely comfortable against extreme speed.

Manchester City wraps up its Asia tour on Sunday against Atlético Madrid at Seoul World Cup Stadium, the same ground where these clubs met in a friendly three years ago.
Enzo Maresca's first preseason has gone well so far. City drew 1-1 with Inter in Hong Kong before losing the shootout, then beat a K-League All Stars side 3-1 on Wednesday.
Maresca took the job this summer and inherits a squad that won both domestic cups last season.

Liverpool's transfer window has reached a telling point. The names are glamorous, the prices severe, and the needs increasingly clear. According to The Athletic, the club have now "began preparing a formal approach for Bradley Barcola, the Paris Saint-Germain winger who is their top transfer target". That sentence alone captures both ambition and urgency.
There is no disguising the scale of the task facing Andoni Iraola in his first season as Liverpool head coach. He inherits a squad with obvious quality, but also one in flux, one hit by injuries, one still adapting after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and one requiring shrewd, decisive surgery before the window closes. Liverpool are acting in the wide areas first, and that makes complete sense.
Barcola is the headline pursuit, and with good reason. The report states that "the wheels are in motion, and Liverpool want to do the deal at around £100million. PSG have indicated they value him at around £145m." That gap is substantial, but the very fact Liverpool are willing to enter the conversation tells its own story. This is a chase for an elite attacker, a player viewed as capable of refreshing the front line and restoring menace to the flanks.
It is a summer that demands clarity. Liverpool have already lost Mohamed Salah, and Hugo Ekitike's long-term injury has further thinned the attack. In that context, the Barcola pursuit feels far more than opportunistic. It looks essential.
The Athletic's ***** sment is straightforward and persuasive: "Bringing in the Frenchman would certainly be a statement signing, and significantly boost an attacking line that is depleted following the exit of Mohamed Salah and the long-term loss of Hugo Ekitike to injury." Liverpool's thinking hardly needs translating. They need speed, invention, penetration and goals from wide positions, and Barcola appears to fit that brief.

When the New York Jets acquired Geno Smith this offseason, the conversation immediately shifted to the quarterback. Would they get the version who revitalized his career in Seattle Seahawks? Or would they inherit the one who struggled with turnovers during his lone season with the Las Vegas Raiders?
Those are fair questions. They just may not be the most important ones. As training camp opens, the Jets' ceiling on offense could depend less on which version of Smith takes the field and more on how offensive coordinator Frank Reich builds the offensive attack around him.
Quarterbacks often receive the credit when an offense succeeds and the blame when it doesn't. While that's part of playing the position, football has repeatedly shown that coaching, scheme and supporting talent can dramatically influence a quarterback's production.
So, here's where Reich enters the picture. The veteran coach inherits an offense featuring an experienced quarterback, a dynamic running back in Breece Hall, an emerging No. 1 receiver in Garrett Wilson and a pair of intriguing young tight ends in Kenyon Sadiq and Mason Taylor. The offensive line also appears more stable than it has in recent years, giving Reich more flexibility than many first-year coordinators enjoy.
The challenge isn't **** embling talent. It's finding the best way to maximize it.

For nearly two decades, John Harbaugh defined Baltimore Ravens football. His teams were disciplined, physical and consistently among the NFL's playoff contenders. Players came and went, coordinators accepted promotions elsewhere and rosters evolved, but Harbaugh remained the constant that tied every season together.
That chapter has closed. As the Ravens report for training camp, the organization begins navigating unfamiliar territory. A new coaching staff inherits one of the NFL's most talented rosters, but replacing a respected culture builder is never as simple as changing the name on the office door.
The Ravens enter this summer with a chance to establish a new identity while preserving the standards that made them one of football's model franchises. Coaching changes often coincide with rebuilding projects. That isn't the case in Baltimore.
The Ravens still possess one of the league's premier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson, an offense capable of challenging any defense and a defense talented enough to help fuel an AFC North ***** le. Expectations haven't changed simply because leadership has.
The new coaching staff isn't being asked to build a contender from scratch. It's being asked to sustain one.

Every new offensive coordinator wants to leave his own imprint on the unit he inherits. Sean Mannion almost certainly will for the Philadelphia Eagles. This team is expected to feature new wrinkles, different concepts, and a fresh perspective in 2026. That's part of the natural evolution of any offense after a coaching change.
Still, successful coordinators don't rebuild from scratch. They identify what already works, preserve it, and then find ways to make it even better. Philadelphia's 2025 offense, despite its inconsistencies, established several trends that deserve to remain part of the Eagles' identity moving forward.
Consistency has quietly become one of Jalen Hurts' greatest strengths. Over the past three seasons, he's completed approximately a combined 66 percent of his passes while continuing to protect the football and make sound decisions.
There is still room for growth. Anticipation, timing, and attacking the middle of the field more consistently remain areas the Eagles hope to improve.
Even so, Mannion inherits a quarterback who has already established an efficient baseline. The goal shouldn't be changing Hurts. It should be helping him become even more explosive.

In her book, Nom de Plume, Carmela Ciuraru writes: "To a certain extent, all writing involves impersonation—the act of summoning an authorial 'I' to create the speaker of a poem or the characters in a novel." And she's right, especially for those in the fiction **** e; creating a world, characters, understanding and illustrating their interior lives, all evidences a knack for occupying a **** e other than their own. Some writers take that bifurcation a step further, choosing a pen name to write some or all of their work under; George Orwell, Mark Twain, and Lewis Carroll are all pen names–it's a tool commonly deployed by a marginalized class to gain credibility among readers who would otherwise look past their name. The Bronte sisters famously wrote under male pseudonyms; before Little Women, Louisa May Alcott wrote under the name A. M. Barnard.
Next month, Minotaur Books will publish the private detective mystery Killer Vibes by Jack Friday–or as readers will recognize him, John Fram. Fram burst onto the literary scene in 2020 with his acclaimed novel, The Bright Lands, followed by No Road Home, and most recently The Midnight Knock; he's made a name for himself crafting queer horror novels that deliver mind bending thrills and nuanced character studies. Fram's newest endeavor is in the crime fiction **** e and that shift, in part, inspired the author to write under a nom de plume: Jack Friday. Killer Vibes is the first in what will be a series that centers on Peter Key, a bisexual stoner who inherits a home from an uncle he barely knew, only to find out that his death was probably not an accident. "By the end of the novel, Peter has gone through a lot of scrapes but he has come out a detective. He's realized that he finally has something that he's really good at and loves to do."
Ahead of Killer Vibes' release, I caught up with Fram to talk about his decision to write under a pen name, telling queer, Southern stories, and what fans of Fram–and Friday–can look forward to in this book and beyond.
Caroline Reilly: What made you decide to write your next book under a pen name?
John Fram: I think that for me it was a matter of making sure people had the right expectations going into the book. I didn't want to alienate my horror readers with something that's not a horror novel. There's nothing supernatural in Killer Vibes. So on the one hand, it was making sure people who have read my previous work knew what they were getting into. Secondly–I remember once reading a review of my book and there was a comment on it where this lady said, "I've always been interested in this author, but I'm too scared to read horror." And that was always in my head, I thought, the fact that one person has said this means there's other people who maybe feel this way. Let me give them something wh
