Steve Sarkisian is all for the SEC's move to stop programs from bringing back professional football players, even if it is a bit hypocritical.
The Texas coach was asked about recent rulings in college sports that have been stopping teams from adding former NFL players to their rosters. The SEC, along with the other power conferences, has since put in a policy that will prohibit schools from rostering players who had signed professional contracts.
"These players on all of our rosters, not just ours, have been working for nine months for this moment on Saturday, which then will lead into the next five to six months," Sarkisian said, via CBS Austin's Bob Ballou. "The fact that somebody out there is going to take a player off of an NFL roster and tell somebody that's been doing it for nine months to go kick rocks, that doesn't sit well with me. I think that's wrong. That morally is wrong."
While it may not be as blatant as what LSU has attempted to do, Texas does have a player on its roster this fall that participated in minicamp with two NFL teams after going undrafted. Offensive lineman Cole Hutson received a state injunction and is practicing with the Longhorns. He's entering his fifth year of eligibility now this fall after previously playing in 48 games for the Longhorns, including making 23 starts.
"Cole's a guy with so much experience, played a lot of football for us," Sarkisian said in July before Hutson was granted his injunction, via ESPN. "He's a guy that unfortunately didn't get drafted. So he puts himself in a bit of a different situation than maybe most guys that got done playing their fourth year in college."

The Green Bay Packers remain in limbo regarding Josh Jacobs' status as the NFL determines whether he will face any disciplinary action. We are Warren Roberson days away from Texas football and it's time for Steve Sarkisian to start answering the questions around this team. The offensive line, particularly the left guard position, continues to be an area of concern that lacks a true answer.
A number of players have rotated throughout fall camp, including Laurence Seymore and Cole Hutson. As the season approaches, how concerned should Longhorns fans be about that spot and the offensive line as a whole?
One of the hardest things to discern during fall camp is position battles. It's nearly impossible to know the difference between a "good-on-good" battle and a "less of two evils" battle. For Texas, they now have four players that are truly vying for the starting LG spot. Usually, the more names you hear around a specific position, the worse. That's not a guarantee, just a pattern that has formed in the past.
Now, there is an obvious silver-lining around the LG spot that didn't exist a year ago: the talent level of the options. Laurence Seymore has been the perceived starter since he was added from the portal, and has gained remarkable praise from multiple defenders this offseason. Cole Hutson returns as a "high-floor" fail safe, with 23 career starts in Kyle Flood's system. Finally, Jaydon Chatman and Jackson Christian both bring unique ability and confidence in the Flood system to the table.
The left guard position needs to be answered before the Ohio State game. It could be, with the pads on this week, one player takes a firm lead in the competition. Aug. 11—PULLMAN — When it's at its best, when players are zigging and zagging and swimming and powering through, Washington State's defensive line can look like a tidal wave. The Cougars can overwhelm anyone in their way, offensive linemen from the first or second team, tight ends staying in for extra protection, poor running backs trying their best to chip block to buy their quarterback a half-second of time.
They come crashing from all angles. Matyus McLain and Linus Zunk from the edges, Paul Hutson and Kaden Beatty and Jirah Leaupepetele from the interior, all surging forward to crash toward the quarterback like a tsunami leveling a city square. It isn't so much about if they'll force the offense into a mistake. It's more about when.
That group made its presence felt in Tuesday's fall camp practice, WSU's fifth of the slate, terrorizing all manner of offensive counterparts in the second half of practice, which unfolded at Gesa Field. Highlights belonged to all kinds of linemen: Leaupepetele beat his matchup to stack up several inside runs, as did fellow lineman Malachi Wrice, and on one sequence, a sea of Cougars converged to drive running back Leo Pulalasi backward for a loss.
And that's to say nothing of one succession of plays in particular. On three straight plays in 11-on-11 settings, quarterback Julian Dugger took three straight sacks: one from cornerback Ishmael Gibbs, who cashed in on a well-designed cornerback blitz; one from emerging defensive tackle Josh Wedel; and one from redshirt freshman defensive tackle Malijah Tucker. Each defender beat his matchups up front to surge into the backfield for simulated tackles.
It was by far the best day of fall camp for WSU's defensive front, which might be the deepest position on the team. On Tuesday, the Cougars got big plays from Leaupepetele, Wrice, Wedel and Tucker, but as camp unfolds and the season approaches, they've gotten the same from Hutson, SMU transfer Damarjhe Lewis, Balaam Miller and others.

Athletes who graduated high school in the Class of 2022 have been granted a preliminary injunction to play a fifth collegiate season, U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney of Colorado said Friday evening in a ruling that clears Cole Hutson's return to the Texas football team.
Starting next season, the NCAA will fully implement an age-based eligibility model that grants collegiate athletes five years regardless of playing time, a requirement commonly known as the "five-for-five" rule. The model, which effectively removes the redshirt concept, calls for an athlete's eligibility clock to start upon initial full-time enrollment in college or at the beginning of the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever occurs earlier. The age-based eligibility implementation will begin this summer. Recruits starting in 2027 are age-based only.
However, class of 2022 athletes such as Hutson have challenged the rule in court, saying it should be extended to their class and the athletes that were only allowed to play four full seasons before running out of eligibility.
Earlier in July, Hutson was granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, allowing him to rejoin the Longhorns as he worked through his ongoing age-based eligibility lawsuit. He has been working out alongside his former teammates with the team but has not yet returned to the Texas roster while waiting for his scheduled court hearing Aug. 10 concerning Hutson's lawsuit filed earlier in July in Travis County.
That hearing is now, theoretically, unnecessary because of the ruling from Sweeney in her Colorado court.

It's part of the activities for young fans the Packers have during training. Other activities include face-painting as well as performances by magicians and baloon artistis

It is a tradition for Packers players and some coaches to ride kids' bikes from the stadium to the practice field. Kids can line up with their bikes near the Oneida Nation gate on the east side of the stadium and should arrive early. The Packers and American Family Insurance also will provide five Dream Bikes, basically bicycles with sidecars. Kids chosen for the Dream Bike experience will receive a bike helmet autographed by the player who rides with them.
The National Weather Service Green Bay forecast is for sunshine with a high of 84. Umbrellas are not allowed in the stands, so fans are advised to have hats, sunscreen and water.
Training camp practices are free and parking is available in the Lambeau Field parking lot. It's a three-minute walk from the parking lot to the practice field.
