The Torino midfielder has remained on Celtic's radar throughout the summer, despite recent suggestions that a deal for the 22-year-old was becoming increasingly difficult.
However, a fresh report from Italy claims the Hoops have not abandoned their interest and could return with a stronger proposal if Martin O'Neill guides his side into the Champions League phase.
That possibility has moved significantly closer following Celtic's impressive 3-0 victory over LASK at Parkhead in the first leg of their play-off.
Italian journalist Giacomo Morandin reports that the financial windfall from Champions League qualification could allow Celtic to intensify their pursuit of the Lithuania international.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the Hoops' main midfield targets following Arne Engels' £22million move to West Ham United over the weekend.
However, Celtic may now have to fend off Premier League interest if they are to bring the Lithuania international to Glasgow.
According to Europacalcio, Crystal Palace have set their sights on Gineitis and could soon open negotiations over a potential move.
Torino's asking price has been reported at between £8million and £12million, while Red Bull Salzburg are also actively interested, with Danny Rohl understood to be an admirer. Anderlecht have also reportedly made their interest known.

Celtic have identified Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis as a potential replacement for Arne Engels, according to the Scottish Sun. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill is preparing for life without the in-demand Hoops star at Parkhead, and the Bhoys are eyeing targets. Gineitis have been watched in recent months by the Scottish Premiership champions, but the ‘powerful’ 6ft 3in Lithuanian international will not come cheap. The 22-year-old Celtic target has three years still left on his contract and the Serie A club will want top dollar for their man.
Gineitis has 32 appearances at senior level for his country and brings much-needed experience and quality to the table. Replacing Engels could prove to be a tall order for the Hoops, but Gineitis has what it takes given his versatility and skillset. The Torino star constantly breaks the line and is brave on the ball. He also has a strong personality, and Celtic could do with his through ***** , interceptions and ability to block in the middle of the park. Gineitis’ physique, athleticism and off-the-ball movement should see him hit the ground running in the Premiership.
