On Saturday, too, well over 10,000 Black-and-Yellows made the trip to Sinsheim. Anyone unfamiliar with the situation might have thought the Swedish national team was playing there, with large sections of the stands mixed in yellow and blue. "It felt like there were more BVB fans in the stadium than Hoffenheim fans," said managing director Lars Ricken with a wink.
But TSG Hoffenheim initially set the tone and deservedly took a 2-0 lead shortly after halftime. BVB responded after an hour, first leveling the score within five minutes through goals from Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva. Then, in the 86th minute, a deflected cross from Ethan Nwaneri led to an own goal and a 3-2 win for BVB.

In the battle for Champions League qualification, two important points now seemed lost. Waldemar Anton refused to let them go. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, he fired his team to a 3-2 away win.

The 30-year-old forward, who has been with Borussia Dortmund for two years. is catching fire yet again, having bagged two goals in two games so far this season. On Tuesday, he could make his 100th competitive appearance for the Black & Yellow. 99 games in, he has an incredible 62 goals to his name, trailing only Erling Haaland and Lothar Emmerich.
Haaland scored a staggering total of 86 goals in 89 competitive matches for BVB. Emmerich found the net 64 times in his first 100 Bundesliga matches for Borussia Dortmund.
For his part, Guirassy has scored 40 times for Borussia in Bundesliga play. That's exactly on par with Norbert ***** el, although Guirassy only needed 65 games to reach that total while ***** el needed 90.
In the 3-2 away win at Hoffenheim, Guirassy played a part in six of Dortmund's eight shots. In the 61st minute, he scored to cut his team's deficit to 2-1. Then, five minutes later, he set up Fabio Silva for 2-2. Serhou Guirassy has scored a goal in each of his past five visits to Hoffenheim. (br)

Borussia Dortmund did it the hard way today in only their second match of the season. Away to Hoffenheim, the Black and Yellows went two goals behind, leaving it all to do with thirty minutes to play. Waldemar Anton took charge, sporting the captain's armband, blasting through the Hoffenheim defense at a lax moment to nick a loose ball and square it for Serhou Guirassy, who got the comeback started. BVB would find two further goals from Fabio Silva, and an own goal created by some intelligent interplay between Silva and Nwaneri.
The defense today was… not exactly sterling. The injury to Mane unsettled the back line, and despite some bright spots specifically from Gadou in progression, there were also some calamitous errors that gave Hoffenheim control of the momentum. Anton has been given the tricky task of leading a young, inexperienced back line. Gadou and Mane are talented, but they are both really in their first seasons of top flight football. Anton needs to keep them in check and handle his defensive duties as well. It's a lot of responsibity for BVB's stand-in captain. Anton's tenacity to win the ball high up the pitch got his team back into the game, and he deserves credit for his efforts across the pitch.
An additional note on Mane. I'm worried about this kid. Two hamstring injuries in only a few professional matches point to either a more serious issue, or insufficient preparation from the physio team. Mane has looked promising in the lead up to the season, but these injuries threaten to derail his career. BVB need to get their well-paid medical staff to figure out what's going on here.
Anyone seen the midfield? I can't seem to find it.
I'm not sure if we blame Kovac here, blame the players, blame the system, but my goodness where is our central spine? Hoffenheim ran down the throat of the BVB defense for the entire first half because there seemed to be no cover in front of it. Maybe we will see more of Veerman in the weeks to come, but it's not like the dutchman is some deep-lying enforcer—he is a creator. If BVB are going to be fielding a juvenile back line for the next few weeks (they are), the midfield needs to provide some better cover.

The good feelings lasted about 53 minutes. In that far-too-brief period of time, we got to see a glimpse of what the 2026-27 Borussia Dortmund squad could do, even without Joey Veerman or Nico Schlotterbeck. But with Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias, the two signings designed more than anything to reinvigorate the club as a whole, out on the pitch showing what they were made of, we were flying.
Hamburg couldn't get out of their own half, much less touch the Dortmund goal. The Greek kids looked every bit the talented studs that were promised. Karetsas played a perfect combo with Guirassy to set up the Dortmund striker for his and the club's first goal of the season. Then, just before the half, Giannis opened his own account when Maxi Beier played him into the box. He dribbled, found a bit of **** e, and took a shot that took a very fortunate deflection off Sebastiaan Bornauw and into the net. The deflection was so lucky I thought it might be ruled an own goal, but the Bundesliga's website still gives it to Giannis as of writing this.
Aaaaaaaaand that was it for the good feelings. BVB came out into the second half and it took eight minutes for the season to end. Giannis challenged for a ball, tweaked his knee without contact, and had to be subbed off. Niko Kovac subbed on Marcel Sabitzer, but Giannis's absence was noticed immediately. Hamburg controlled the play much better in the second half, and to add to the sour mood, Samuele Inacio received a straight red card towards the end of the match with a late slide-tackle that connected with Albert Grønbæk's shin. Inacio walked off in tears.
So Dortmund held out for the 2-0 win and clean-sheet, but the mood was irrevocably destroyed. We can never have nice things, and when we do they only get briefly teased before they get ripped away. The night is dark and full of terrors.
I'll just say it because we're all already thinking it: I'm very nervous that Giannis tore his ACL. Depending on the severity he could potentially miss the entire season, but even a partial tear would put him out of action for multiple (read: at bare minimum three months). Bottom line, unless it's a miracle and it's only a Grade 1 or something less severe like a meniscus tear (which would still require many weeks' recovery), we're not seeing him back on the pitch any time soon. If I'm Ole Book, I'm trying to find a last second cheap winger on the transfer market.

Borussia Dortmund's seven year high points tally wasn't enough to win the Bundesliga last season but they have reinforced this season with a Greek duo of Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias.
Dortmund also started this season off on a strong foot despite losing 2-1 against Bayern in the super cup as they were a Maximilian Beier golden chance away from making it to extra time.
They have a somewhat busy schedule for this early on in the season as their delayed DFB Pokal game is to be played midweek next week against Hamburg-Eimsbütteler from the fifth tier in which they may rest players.
Despite this, Dortmund have an amazing record against Hamburg as they haven't lost in 11 years against the side from north Germany.
Serhou Guirassy will look to continue where he left off last season as he scored his 17th goal in the Bundesliga on the final matchday to become Dortmund's top scorer in consecutive seasons.

Birmingham City are trying to hijack Young Boys' attempts to sign FC Nantes winger Herba Guirassy (19), according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri.
Guirassy accrued Ligue 1 experience at Nantes last season. He played 20 times in Ligue 1, scoring twice, however, it was a disastrous season for Les Canaris, who were relegated to Ligue 2. The FCN academy product has featured prominently in the opening gameweeks of this season, too. In three games in Ligue 2, he has one goal.
However, Nantes have lost all three of their games, sit rock bottom of the league, and have now just sacked their manager, Michal Der Zakarian. Grégory Poirier has come in but Guirassy may not have the chance to play under the former Red Star coach. Interest in acquiring Guirassy is growing. Swiss side Young Boys had already been in talks to sign the France U21 international, however, Birmingham City are trying to hijack the deal and have submitted a bid of their own. Talks are ongoing.

Coach Niko Kovac put his arm around Konstantinos Karetsas, then gave him a light pat and a friendly look as he made his way to the bench. The new signing had received spontaneous applause from the fans on several occasions. Karetsas is a solid short-term solution, no question. But he won't be able to play 60 games for both the club and the national team. He certainly won't be able to play 90 minutes every third day – he doesn't have the stamina for that," said Kovac, adding: "And we also have to be careful not to push him into an injury. Borussia Dortmund warmed up for next weekend's Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup against Bayern Munich with a 2-2 home friendly draw with Roma on Saturday.
After the new Dortmund squad was presented to fans before kick-off, those in the almost sold-out stadium were treated to an open match with plenty of chances at both ends.
The game began with two early blows for Dortmund. Argentinian Paulo Dybala gave the Italians an early lead with a left-footed shot from close range. A short time later, Bryan Cristante made it 2-0 with a header from a corner.
Julian Ryerson's goal in the 12th minute and Serhou Guirassy's strike in the 28th then made it 2-2 for the home side.
Dortmund's first competitive test of the new season awaits next Saturday. The Black and Yellows, Bundesliga runners-up last term, host double winners Bayern in the Super Cup.

Borussia Dortmund held to a 2-2 draw at home against AS Roma on Saturday. All four goals were scored inside the first half-hour as Niko Kovac's side came from a two-goal deficit to avoid defeat in front of home fans at Signal Iduna Park (Westfalenstadion).
Paulo Dybala put the visitors ahead before **** isting Bryan Cristante's goal from a corner-kick delivery in the 9th minute. On his first appearance back from an injury he suffered at the World Cup, Julian Ryerson did the same in the next 20 minutes.
The Norwegian scored from close range after fellow World Cup participant Daniel Svensson's cutback in the 12th minute. Serhou Guirassy equalized for Dortmund from Ryerson's typical set-piece delivery.
The hosts had the best chances for the rest of the game, but they were unable to find a winning goal. Konstantinos Karetsas, Joane Gadou, Justin Lerma, Kauã Prates and Takato Yamamoto all made their home debuts as Dortmund introduced the new players to the fans before kickoff.
While FC Bayern will play against Heidenheim in midweek, Dortmund's next game will be against the Rekordmeister in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

The first water break, which BVB **** istant coach Robert Kovac called after about 45 minutes of training, was gratefully received by the 22 field players. After all, the Black and Yellows were on the training field in Dortmund-Brackel in summery 28-degree weather and bright sunshine.
Two days earlier, the Borussians had already undergone the mandatory performance testing; on Tuesday, they finally took to the field for their first training session.
In addition to injured captain Emre Can, head coach Niko Kovac’s roster was missing the World Cup participants, who are currently still on vacation. Julian Ryerson, who had to be substituted due to injury during Norway’s quarterfinal match against England, has not suffered a more serious injury and is expected to return to Dortmund fully fit after his vacation.
In place of the World Cup players, Kovac called up not only the established players—including Serhou Guirassy, Fabio Silva, Jobe Bellingham, Yan Couto, and others—but also eleven young talents from BVB’s youth teams to the first-team training squad.
Summer signings Joane Gadou and Justin Lerma demonstrated their skills in team training for the first time. The 19-year-old center back and the 18-year-old midfielder showed great motivation and enthusiasm right from the start.

While it has been a surprisingly slow start on the transfer front to date, Borussia Dortmund's summer spending is apparently not finished.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old showed up in his workout clothes in the BVB first team's fitness area and went through an individual rehab session while his teammates worked up a sweat on the treadmill.
Captain Emre Can, who is also in rehabilitation training following the cruciate ligament tear he suffered in the spring, suddenly appeared in good spirits among his Black and Yellow teammates in the weight room. The first team underwent physical therapy checks and various internal medical examinations one after another. Finally, they completed the grueling stepwise lactate test along with a stress ECG. Currently impressing for the United States at the World Cup, Folarin Balogun has emerged as a transfer target for Borussia Dortmund, according to Bild.
