Riverwater Partners, an investment management company, released its 'Small Cap Strategy' Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. The Small Cap Strategy underperformed the Russell 2000 in the second quarter as the benchmark experienced one of its strongest risk-on rallies in recent memory, although the strategy remained ahead year-to-date. The quarter was defined by accelerating AI investment, energy market disruptions, and renewed investor appetite for higher-beta stocks, creating headwinds for the firm's quality-focused approach and healthcare positioning. Despite this, stock selection contributed positively in energy, materials, and financials, while healthcare and consumer discretionary detracted due to the fund's disciplined avoidance of speculative businesses. Looking ahead, the firm remains cautiously optimistic, focusing on opportunities created by market dislocations, including AI infrastructure enablers, select consumer companies, healthcare innovators, and energy businesses trading below intrinsic value. The strategy continues to emphasize high-quality companies with strong management teams and attractive valuations, positioning the portfolio for a potential rotation away from speculative market leadership. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy highlighted StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) as a notable contributor. StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) operates as a US-based global financial services network that connects companies, organizations, traders, and investors to a market ecosystem. On August 31, 2026, StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) closed at $68.48 per share. StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) fell 8.97% over the past month while its shares gained 50.63% over the past 52 weeks. StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) has a market capitalization of $8.26 billion with a 52-week trading range between $36.45 - $94.66.
Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy stated the following regarding StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ:SNEX), our financial services and clearing holding, was the portfolio's largest contributor as shares gained approximately 47% during the quarter. Elevated market volatility stemming from the Middle East conflict drove exceptional trading and clearing activity, and the stock ground steadily higher after quarterly earnings results. With shares having roughly doubled from their lows and valuation approaching the high end of historical ranges, we trimmed the position into strength while keeping it among our largest holdings. We continue to view it as an unusually durable compounder across market environments."

Why we like this card: With 3% cash back on spending with U.S. online retail purchases (up to $6,000 spent per year), the Blue Cash Everyday from Amex can be valuable for frequent Target shoppers who prefer to shop online. If you max out the category with your Target.com or other online purchases, you could earn $180 in cash back each year, not including the 1% you'll still earn after the max.
That's not all — the same cash-back rate also applies to spending at U.S. supermarkets and gas stations (up to the same $6,000 annual cap), making Blue Cash Everyday a solid choice for everyday spending. In addition to cash rewards, this card has a generous intro APR offer for new purchases and balance transfers, plus ongoing annual credits to help offset your regular spending.

Why we like this card: If you like earning travel rewards, the Capital One Venture's unlimited 2x miles on every purchase can help you maximize your spending at Target and beyond for future travel. Your regular purchases at Target — groceries, electronics, home goods, clothing, pharmacy needs, or anything else — all earn 2x miles. Why we like it: We like the Chase Sapphire Preferred as a travel card that can help you make the most of your spending today toward future trips with flexible ways to earn and redeem rewards. At $95, it's not the most expensive travel credit card — and you may even earn back that fee with benefits alone, like the $100 annual Chase Travel hotel credit.
What really makes the Chase Sapphire Preferred valuable is the boost for redeeming points for travel through Chase Travel, up to 1.5x.
Read our full review of the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.
Why we like it: With the Chase Freedom Unlimited, you can maximize bonus categories while earning a competitive flat cash-back rate. The bonus rewards categories include both travel (through Chase Travel) and everyday spending on dining and drugstores. But you're also guaranteed at least 1.5% on every non-category purchase — putting this card in competition with other cash-back cards that earn only those flat cash-back rewards.

Why we like it: The Citi Strata Premier has a low annual fee and an excellent rewards rate unmatched by many similar travel credit cards. This is especially true with its 3x return at supermarkets and gas stations, making the Strata Premier an exceptional choice for earning travel rewards on common expenses.
Why we like it: The Citi Double Cash provides a 0% intro APR period on balance transfers that's well above the average length, giving you plenty of time to pay down existing debt without worrying about accruing interest. In addition, this is a top-tier cash-back card with its 2% cash-back rate on all eligible purchases.

"The leading detractors in the quarter were gold bullion, Charter Communications, Inc. Class A, HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA), Exxon Mobil Corporation and Salesforce.com, Inc. HCA Healthcare is the largest for-profit hospital operator in the US, with a difficult-to-replicate network of large urban hospitals. Although the company reported sales and profit growth for its most recent growth, HCA reported that patient volumes grew at the low end of guidance, driven partially by declines in respiratory-related emergency room visits, inpatient surgeries and outpatient surgeries. A decrease in enrollment in both Medicaid and Affordable Care Act exchanges was also a headwind. We continue to view HCA's management as an effective steward of both operations and the balance sheet as it continues to return capital to shareholders through share buybacks."

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund." A copy can be downloaded here. Equity markets posted strong returns, with the Russell 1000 Value Index rising by 13.9%, although many individual stocks lagged. Notably, semiconductor stocks and AI-related sectors saw exceptional gains. The rally appeared speculative, marked by a stark difference in performance between high-beta and low-volatility stocks, along with momentum stocks outperforming the market significantly. Despite heightened enthusiasm for AI investments, concerns arise over inflated valuations reminiscent of the dot-com era. While there is substantial capital investment in AI, future earnings growth must justify these expenditures. The fund maintains a cautious approach towards perceived beneficiaries of AI, suggesting that select high-quality businesses with reasonable valuations may be better positioned. Historical trends suggest that speculative markets often revert to valuations based on fundamental economic realities, and the chosen investments are believed to be well-prepared for such a shift. The fund underperformed the index in the quarter and returned 5.69% vs. 13.87% for the Russell 1000 Value Index, largely due to a lack of exposure to high-performing sectors like semiconductors, while stock selection in healthcare provided a positive contribution. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.

(NYSE:ELV) has a market capitalization of $85.13 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $274.84 to $436.24.
Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund stated the following regarding Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) is the second largest health insurer, and one of the largest commercial insurers in the United States. Shares rose during the quarter after the company reported quarterly earnings that beat consensus estimates. It was further supported by news that the US agreed to increase 2027 payments for private Medicare Advantage plans above the initial proposal. The company is priced at a discount to the market, driven by skepticism surrounding margins and growth, despite being a superior business that grows above GDP while returning most of its cash to shareholders."

On August 31, 2026, Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) closed at $197.45 per share. Over the past month, Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) returned 15.87%, but its shares are down 13.29% over the past year. Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) is a leader in cloud software for back-office business functions, spanning human capital management (HCM), financial management, and adjacent ERP (enterprise resource planning) products, with 60% of the Fortune 500 as HCM customers. Shares declined over the period, pressured by investor concerns that AI could disrupt application software vendors. The most recent quarter, however, did not show evidence of this. Subscription revenue grew 14%, 12-month backlog grew 16%, retention remained industry leading, margins expanded, and management reiterated full-year subscription revenue guidance while raising operating margin guidance. I hate earnings season. Sure, there are many debit-side options traders that claim to love it and there's a reason for that — basically, it comes down to the heightened implied volatility (IV). But as Marvell Technology (MRVL) recently demonstrated, this sharp movement is a double-edged sword. You just don't know what may actually transpire, which is why MRVL stock has given up significant value.
At the same time, the red ink presents a contrarian opportunity for bold, data-driven traders. If you're the risk-tolerant type, MRVL stock may have just provided another chance to scalp some quick profits.

Good morning. Stocks slipped in early trading on Tuesday as long-dated bond yields rose and speculation of a rate hike this year grew.
Oil prices (CL=F) jumped after President Trump vowed to hit Iran "hard," stoking fears that above-target inflation will follow on the heels of a strong earnings season and prompt Federal Reserve officials to tighten monetary policy.
The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) yield hit its highest level since January 2025.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading on the first trading day of September, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Though September is historically the weakest month for stocks, software enters it on the heels of recent momentum, while much of the physical AI trade appears to be on the defensive.

On August 25, The Bank of Nova Scotia (NYSE:BNS) reported third-quarter results that hit a target management had been promising for the medium term, not the near term. Return on equity reached 14.2%, adjusted net income climbed to $2.97 billion, and adjusted earnings per share rose to $2.28 from $1.88 a year earlier, a 21% jump. CEO Scott Thomson signaled that 14% won't be the high-water mark for the bank's returns going forward. With every division growing at once, the quarter reads like a strategy finally clicking into place.
Canadian Banking earned $1.1 billion, up 12% year over year, with return on equity jumping 160 basis points sequentially to 19.4%. That came from a fifth straight quarter of margin expansion, plus commercial loan growth that accelerated to 3% sequentially after 2% the quarter before, with small business lending up 10% year over year. Credit card premium mix rose to 45% of new acquisitions, up from 35% a year ago.
Global Banking and Markets posted its best quarterly net income ever, $647 million, up 37% year over year, helped by a net interest margin that expanded more than 30 basis points and a run of marquee deals, including the two largest debt capital markets issuances ever done in Canada and the country's biggest IPO since 2021. Loans in that segment grew 7% sequentially as the bank reinvests after a period of deliberate optimization.
Global Wealth Management earnings rose 23% to $515 million as the segment posted net sales of $3 billion for the quarter, a Q3 record, while **** ets under management reached $474 billion. Referrals between Canadian Banking and Wealth Management hit $14 billion year to date, with commercial-to-wealth referrals up 33%. International Banking added $725 million, up 6% on a constant dollar basis, with retail loans growing 5% as management leans into primary banking relationships. The bank also logged its tenth straight quarter of positive operating leverage.
The quarter wasn't friction-free. Expenses grew 14% year over year, driven largely by performance-based pay and a 16% increase in technology spending to $1.5 billion. Chief Risk Officer Shannon McGinnis flagged, "We continue to monitor some pockets of weakness, including elevated mortgage delinquencies," even with the retail book carrying an average FICO score of 798. International Banking's provision for credit losses ran at 138 basis points, well above the 42 basis points booked in Canadian Banking, and the segment absorbed an incremental $57 million provision tied to a corporate account in Brazil that management said it continues to work through.

The letter can be downloaded here. The Fund experienced its best quarter since inception, achieving profitability on both long and short positions. Favorable market conditions, particularly in small-cap and healthcare stocks, led to attractive investment opportunities. The Fund maintained a cash position of approximately 13%. In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, The Summers Value Fund highlighted Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI). Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) is a leading information delivery services provider through a software-as-a-service platform. On August 31, 2026, Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) closed at $38.25 per share. Over the past month, Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) declined 0.65%, but its shares are up 44.39% over the past year. Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) has a market capitalization of $700.93 million.
The Summers Value Fund stated the following regarding Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
Consensus Cloud Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCSI) - $695 million market cap. Consensus Cloud Solutions is a leading provider of cloud-based fax services to the healthcare sector under its well-recognized eFax brand. Faxing remains an important means of communication in the healthcare ecosystem with billions of pages sent each year. Faxing, while a legacy technology, allows industry participants to communicate in a HIPAA-compliant manner. Many hospitals and clinics still rely on physical fax machines while Consensus' cloud-based service feels more like sending an email.
Consensus was a busted spin-off from J2 Global when we started buying shares two years ago. The stock had declined from $65 to a low of $12 following missed expectations and an accounting restatement. At its low, the stock traded at 2.5x GAAP earnings. We began building our position at $16, or 3.5x GAAP earnings. Despite selling legacy technology into an industry in secular decline, the company had several attributes we found appealing: high margins, low customer churn, and strong free cash flow generation. After years of a declining share price, investor expectations and sell-side coverage were almost non-existent, which helped create the mispricing..." (Click here to read the full text)

On August 25, SelectQuote (NASDAQ:SLQT) told investors that cash generation, not growth, is now the entire point of owning the stock. Fiscal 2026 revenue reached $1.62 billion, up 6% year over year, and operating cash flow climbed $44 million from the prior year. But the same release showed a fourth-quarter net loss of $16.8 million, a reversal from $12.9 million in net income a year earlier, and a fiscal 2027 guide that points meaningfully lower on the top line. That gap between the narrative and the numbers underneath it is worth sitting with.
Healthcare Services, built around the company's SelectRx pharmacy, generated $845 million in revenue for fiscal 2026, up 14% even as Inflation Reduction Act drug pricing changes cut into the segment starting in the back half of the year. That business exited the fourth quarter at an annualized adjusted EBITDA run rate of nearly $50 million, roughly double the $25 million it produced across the full year, and management expects those margins to keep expanding as more prescriptions route through the company's Olathe, Kansas facility, which is already shipping about 30% more efficiently than its older sites.
Layered on top, SelectQuote identified more than $30 million in annualized run rate savings from AI-enabled enrollment tools and workflow automation. The Senior segment, meanwhile, held a 26% adjusted EBITDA margin for a fourth straight year in the mid-20% range, evidence that the agent-led distribution model keeps producing steady profit even when Medicare Advantage carriers shift benefits underneath it. Add in a commissions receivable balance north of $1 billion, and the company argues its underlying earnings power is bigger than its stock price reflects.
The guidance tells a different story. SelectQuote expects fiscal 2027 revenue of $1.35 billion to $1.45 billion, roughly 14% below fiscal 2026 at the midpoint, with Medicare Advantage approved policies projected to fall another 10% to 15% after already declining 4% this past year. Senior segment revenue already dropped 4% in fiscal 2026 to $576 million, partly because a major carrier partner pulled back its own marketing spending, a reminder of how much SelectQuote's results depend on decisions made by insurers it does not control.
The Inflation Reduction Act will keep pressuring Healthcare Services revenue through fiscal 2027, with especially messy comparisons in the first half. SelectRx membership already moderated to 109,039 members and is expected to dip further before recovering. Underneath all of it sits $800 million in debt and preferred equity carrying a roughly 12% funding cost, translating into $45 million of annual cash interest that has to be paid regardless of how enrollment season goes. Management itself called the term life insurance market competitive on customer acquisition costs, a small but telling admission that not every corner of the business is running cleanly.

The portfolio held businesses with a 23.0% pre-tax return on invested capital versus 16.1% for the S&P 500. The letter notes a reversal in U.S. equities, driven by AI spending and strong earnings, despite cautious sentiment among lower-income households. The focus on high-quality firms with durable advantages is expected to yield positive outcomes as valuation pressures mount, indicating that future market performance may hinge on fundamentals rather than speculative trends. The portfolio aims to capitalize on the overlooked valuations of quality companies, presenting significant investment opportunities. "Equitable Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:EQH) triggered our soft stop-loss review, and with no insider buying to reinforce conviction, we sold the position. While Equitable continues to generate strong cash flow and return capital in a disciplined manner, the underlying core business has remained inconsistent. Earnings quality is uneven, flows are mixed, and ongoing pressure in the individual life and retirement segments raises concern. Although valuation appears attractive, our confidence in the ability to deliver consistent results and successfully execute a turnaround was lowered."

The Securities and Exchange Commission has opened an investigation into scoreboard manufacturer Daktronics on Wednesday in relation to an alleged sponsorship deal the company had with Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard.
Daktronics acting CFO Howard Atkins revealed the investigation on an earnings call on Wednesday, and said that they have received requests for information from the NBA. Specifics of the SEC's investigation are not yet known. It marks the first public acknowledgement that the NBA is including Daktronics in its investigation into Leonard and the Clippers.
"As you might expect, we have received requests for information from the NBA. Additionally, the Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking information from us concerning the company and Mr. Leonard," Atkins said. "We take these requests seriously and are cooperating. At this point, out of respect for the respective processes, we will not be providing further comment."
Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers have been under scrutiny and an NBA investigation for nearly a year after an alleged no-show sponsorship deal with the now-defunct sustainability company Aspiration. That deal reportedly paid Leonard million for no visible work in an alleged bid to circumvent the NBA's salary cap.
A report last month from "Pablo Torre Finds Out" claimed that Daktronics also hired Leonard to a multimillion dollar sponsorship deal that didn't result in any work from Leonard. Daktronics built the $100 million video board at the Clippers' Intuit Dome.

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Global Value Fund." The letter can be downloaded here. In Q2 2026, the MSCI World Index rose by +13.8% and the MSCI World Value Index by +9.2%, despite challenges like rising inflation and the Iran conflict. The US now comprises about 71% of the MSCI World Index, with notable gains in semiconductor and AI-related stocks, some exceeding 100%. The market showed speculative behavior, especially with high-beta and momentum stocks outperforming significantly. While enthusiasm for AI drove investor leverage, many stocks are trading at elevated multiples reminiscent of the dot-com era. Concerns about sustainability arise as earnings growth is heavily tied to AI data centers. Preference is shifting to high-quality businesses in sectors like enterprise software and healthcare, which are perceived as more stable. Defensive sectors have been underinvested, offering potential opportunities. The fund achieved a return of 9.97% in the quarter, surpassing the MSCI World Value Index, with healthcare as a key contributor. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Hotchkis & Wiley Global Value Fund noted that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) detracted from performance due to its underweight position in the stock. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), the parent company of Google, offers various platforms and services, including online search and advertising, cloud solutions, and artificial intelligence. On September 1, 2026, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) closed at $335.02 per share. Over the past month, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) declined 7.56%, but its shares are up 45.24% over the past year. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has a market capitalization of $4.09 trillion.
Hotchkis & Wiley Global Value Fund stated the following regarding Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is a holding company whose primary subsidiary is Google, whose Search business makes it one of the largest advertising companies in the world. Alphabet's other businesses are its enterprise cloud platform and venture-stage companies collectively reported as "Other Bets." We believe Alphabet's valuation remain good given its improving growth prospects. Although the stock rose during the quarter, it detracted from relative performance because we were underweight compared to the benchmark. Our investment thesis remains intact."

Nvidia (NVDA) didn't like what it saw in Wall Street estimates for its future revenue growth.
"In addition to having much stronger visibility into next year, the team noted that its decision to provide an out-year outlook was also motivated by the fact that there was a meaningful gap between Street estimates and what Nvidia was seeing internally, which the company believed could have created supply-chain planning challenges for partners," JPMorgan ******* yst Harlan Sur wrote in a note today after his meeting with Nvidia executives.
With Nvidia's stock stuck in neutral for the better part of the summer prior to earnings as investors fretted about peak artificial intelligence growth, the chip darling decided to take one swift measure to silence the naysayers.
The action: serving up a rare long-term outlook that blew everyone on the Street away.
Nvidia said after reporting its fiscal second quarter earnings that it sees 70% revenue growth for fiscal year 2028. This was above ******* yst forecasts for 45% growth. The sales gain would be larger — think in excess of 100% — if not for memory chip shortages, said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Elastic N.V. (NYSE:ESTC) delivered a quarter that should have won over Wall Street. An earnings beat, growing enterprise adoption of its AI-powered search and cloud platform, and guidance pointing to continued revenue growth through fiscal 2027.
The AI-fueled beat led shares spiking more than 15% in after-hours trading, but DA Davidson chose to remain Neutral on the stock. On August 28, the firm raised its price target on Elastic NV (NYSE:ESTC) shares to $100 from $80 while maintaining a Neutral rating.
For first quarter of fiscal 2027 ending July 31, 2026, the Search AI Company announced total revenues of $478 million, an increase of 15% year-over-year. Total subscription revenue also rose by the same percentage year-over-year to $449 million. Sales-led subscription revenue was $399 million, an increase of 18% year-over-year.
Sales-led subscription revenue is a reflection of Elastic's progress with its larger customers, a segment management is explicitly focused on to improve for achieving its long-term financial and product milestones. The company also reported adding more than 80 customers with annual contract value above $100,000, bringing the total to over 1,800.
Firm Da Davidson particularly mentioned the company's improving demand for Elastic's Security solution backed by a heightened threat landscape.
