LOS ANGELES (AP) — Foundations funded and co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos have launched an initiative committing $200 million to revive 100 of Earth's most threatened species, including endangered lemurs, salamanders, pangolins, pigs and echidnas.
DiCaprio's Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund are leading the Phoenix Species Project, the groups announced Tuesday. They call it the largest single fund in history dedicated exclusively to recovering critically endangered species.

July 14 (Reuters) - The Trump administration was sued on Tuesday by nine environmental groups that said its recent decision to rescind a more than 50-year-old definition of "harm" imperiled wildlife.
In a complaint filed in Seattle federal court, the groups challenged determinations on July 10 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service that "maintaining a freestanding definition of 'harm' is unnecessary," and degrading a habitat does not qualify under the Endangered Species Act as an illegal "take" of endangered and threatened wildlife.
Rescinding the definition of harm violates that law's plain language, defies reason, is arbitrary and capricious, and should be overturned, the complaint said.
The Trump administration has scaled back a variety of environmental initiatives and standards, including by reducing government support for clean energy and repealing an Obama administration-era scientific finding that climate change threatens public health.

Alibaba filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday, seeking to be removed from the Pentagon's list of companies with alleged ties to China's military. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is named as a defendant in the action, which was brought in San Jose federal court in California, according to Reuters.
At the heart of the complaint is the claim that the Defense Department placed Alibaba on the so-called 1260H list without adequate justification, a move Alibaba characterizes as "arbitrary and capricious" with "no basis in fact or law." Alibaba also argues the designation violates constitutional due process and its First Amendment rights. "The determinations have no basis in fact or law," the complaint said.
The Pentagon said it does not comment on ongoing litigation.
According to Bloomberg, the company spent months trying to resolve the matter directly with the Defense Department — offering detailed evidence of its non-involvement with the PLA, responding to questions, and submitting a formal written reply — all without ever hearing back. Alibaba noted that news of its own blacklisting reached it only through publication in the Federal Register.
The Pentagon had accused Alibaba of being a "military-civil fusion contributor to the Chinese defense industrial base" through an affiliation with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Alibaba pushed back, arguing that its interactions with the ministry are a routine part of doing business in China and reflect nothing more than the standard relationship between a technology company and its national regulator. "A regulator is not an affiliate," the company said in its filing.

Alibaba noted that news of its own blacklisting reached it only through publication in the Federal Register.
The Pentagon had accused Alibaba of being a "military-civil fusion contributor to the Chinese defense industrial base" through an affiliation with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Alibaba pushed back, arguing that its interactions with the ministry are a routine part of doing business in China and reflect nothing more than the standard relationship between a technology company and its national regulator. "A regulator is not an affiliate," the company said in its filing.

At one point, QB Brendan Sorsby might have been an “easy **** on” option for the Cleveland Browns long-standing quarterback quandary. Sorsby’s sorted road, after transferring to Texas Tech, put him on the way to the NFL Supplemental Draft process, as everyone **** umed that betting on college football and betting on his own team’s games would not stand, even if an appeal was filed in the home of the Red Raiders.
“Everyone” was wrong, as that Texas court approved an injunction that would allow Sorsby to play this season in college, unless he still decided to try to enter the Supplemental Draft or the NCAA appealed and won that appeal, barring Sorsby from playing.
