UNCASVILLE, CT — Brittney Griner officially owns the all-time WNBA blocks record.
On June 22, the Connecticut Sun center tied the late Margo Dydek on the league's all-time blocks list with 877 career blocks. Dydek, who played for 11 seasons in the league, reached the mark in 323 games and has held the record since 2008. Griner reached it in 364 games.
Griner's record-tying block came with 43 seconds remining in the first half when she blocked a Kamilla Cardosa layup against Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena.
"That's always been the only record I care about," Griner said in April. Literally the only one my whole career."
Griner also owns the record for the most blocks in a single WNBA game, with 11 blocks during a Phoenix Mercury and Tulsa Shock matchup in June 2014. During her 13-season career, she's also led the league in blocks five different times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018).
