Patriots' TreVeyon Henderson Concern Grows Before Seahawks Opener originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots may have to open their season without one of their most explosive offensive players. Running back TreVeyon Henderson missed his fourth consecutive practice Sunday because of an ankle injury. Henderson has not practiced since suffering the injury Aug. 24, according to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.
New England listed Henderson as a non-participant on its official Sunday injury report. Defensive tackle Christian Barmore and offensive lineman Ben Brown also sat out because of knee injuries. The timing makes Henderson's continued absence especially concerning. The Patriots have only one more scheduled practice before traveling to Seattle for Wednesday night's season opener against the Seahawks.
Henderson has not officially been ruled out, but four straight missed practices leave New England facing an uncomfortable question: How will the Patriots divide their backfield responsibilities if he cannot play?
Rhamondre Stevenson already was expected to start. Henderson's potential absence, however, would remove the player best equipped to deliver an explosive run or turn a short reception into a major gain. Henderson rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns on 180 carries during his rookie season, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. He averaged 5.1 yards per attempt and added a receiving touchdown.

In their first official injury report of the 2026 season, the Patriots don't have many names. One stands out.
Running back TreVeyon Henderson did not practice, due to an ankle injury.
It happened nearly two weeks ago, when Henderson slipped on the turf at practice. He hasn't practiced since then.
If Henderson, a second-round pick in 2025, can't go, it will mean more work for Rhamondre Stevenson. Corey Kiner is the only other tailback on the 53-man roster; Hassan Haskins and Lan Larison (that's a lot of alliteration from anxious anchors placed in powerful posts) are on the practice squad.
Also not practicing on Sunday were defensive tackle Christian Barmore (knee) and offensive lineman Ben Brown (knee).

Will New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez play in Saturday's Week 2 preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles?
While the Patriots have not confirmed Gonzalez's status for the game, it is expected that the star defensive back will miss a second straight preseason game.
Gonzalez has not practiced since last Monday, a day before the team's scheduled joint training camp practice with the Indianapolis Colts. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has noted multiple times that the absence is due to an injury that Gonzalez sustained, despite all of the concerns that it could be contract-related.
"Christian was unavailable, physically unavailable for the practice. That's the clarification," Vrabel stated. "Just like other players that I told to have treatment, and everybody has a plan here, there were other guys that were in that same category. If you want to list the names: Christian Elliss, Brenden Schooler, Harold Landry, Christian Barmore, et cetera. So make sure they're all included. They were all in the same group of what they did."
The Patriots and Gonzalez have continued to work behind the scenes on a potential contract extension.

New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore valued the team's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to Sports Illustrated's Mike Kadlick, Barmore gave props to the Eagles for the competition level that they provided him in preparation for next season.
"They're a great team," Barmore said regarding the Eagles. "I love the battles and we're gonna keep going."
The Eagles won the NFC East ***** le last season with an 11-6 record. Philadelphia is expected to contend for a playoff spot next season despite trading star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots in June.
The Patriots last played the Eagles in 2023. Since then, the Eagles won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2024 season and are still a competitive team on both sides of the ball.

Christian Barmore was one of the most disruptive interior defensive linemen in the NFL last season, but you wouldn't know it looking at his sack count. In a combined 21 regular season and playoff games, he had only three quarterback takedowns despite also registering 55 other pressures.
Entering into 2026, the goal is therefore clear: Barmore wants to become a better finisher.
"There are a lot of athletic quarterbacks in the league. They're all fast, they have quick feet. They all have a little mobility. My goal is, every time I get there, to bend down and just have good patience and don't run past them. That's the goal," he explained following Wednesday's first joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I missed a lot of plays I wish I had back last year, but I'm focused on the future. My goal is not to do that again, not miss the plays I can make. Really every time I get back there, I just have to settle down and make the sacks."
Barmore ended his 2025 campaign not just falling short of his sack potential, but also with an uncharacteristically high missed tackle rate of 23.5%. And yet, the season as a whole was a success for him: fully recovered from the blood clots that had disrupted his 2024 campaign, he once again looked like the player the Patriots had given a four-year, $84 million contract extension.

After releasing linebacker Otis Reese, the New England Patriots headed into the weekend with one open spot on their roster. They filled it on Monday: the team of head coach Mike Vrabel signed defensive tackle Casey Rogers following a successful workout.
Let's ******* what the move means.
Besides filling out their 90-man roster, the Patriots now also have 10 defensive tackles on their roster; the team effectively replaced Otis Reese's roster spot with an interior defensive lineman. However, as a seemingly trivial look at the jersey numbers shows, more change might be afoot:
Interior defensive line (10):Milton Williams (97), Christian Barmore (90), Cory Durden (94), Joshua Farmer (92), Leonard Taylor III (93), Eric Gregory (95), Jeremiah Pharms Jr. (98), Isaiah Iton (62), David Blay Jr. (96), Casey Rogers (96)
At the moment, the team has ******* igned both Rogers and undrafted rookie David Blay Jr. the No. 96 jersey. That might in itself not mean much, but with the latter ominously absent from practice on Monday, it appears another move could very well be on the horizon.

While the pads remained on for the New England Patriots on Saturday, the practice scripts were thrown away as Mike Vrabel and the coaching staff instead simulated in-game drives.
"There is no script, so the players won't have what the play is or what the situation is, which we always like to do here, and give them an opportunity to go play, get into a little bit of rhythm, get into a little bit of conditioning, create a drive," Vrabel explained.
Even in a simulated session with full pads, it was more of a low-key day at times but plenty of work was done on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium. Here's what went down.
Absent: CB Carlton Davis III, OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (new/rest), FB Reggie Gilliam (new)
Returnee: DT Christian Barmore

The New England Patriots have ended their offseason program and now break until training camp later this month. While players are out of the facility, plenty remains to break down.
So, let's get into this week's #PostPulpit Mailbag.
What offensive and defensive positional groups is going to be the most fun to watch battle it out in camp? – mathblaster97
The talent and depth at wide receiver and defensive line will make those groups exciting to watch for me. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs building their chemistry with Drake Maye while Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, and Efton Chism III battle for their roles — as well as their potential futures in New England.
Then Milton Williams and Christian Barmore start year two together while Cory Durden, Leonard Taylor III, Joshua Farmer, Eric Gregory, Jeremiah Pharms, David Blay and Travis Shaw will be competing for depth roles.
