Merck (MRK) stock returned about 87% over the past twelve months, climbing from roughly $79 to about $147. Nothing in the year's results looks like that. The medicines Merck sells today grew at their usual pace. Investors spent the year repricing what comes next.
Revenue over the trailing twelve months was $66.6 billion, up 4.6% and in line with its own three-year pace. Profitability did not follow. Its operating margin over the same twelve months was 10.5%, versus a three-year average of 22.4%.
Most of that gap is one purchase. Merck took a $5.7 billion charge in the second quarter of 2026, about 9% of a year's sales. It bought Terns Pharmaceuticals, and with it MK-4208, a candidate for chronic myeloid leukemia. The bill hits earnings now and the medicine arrives later.
The proof matters because of the risk hanging over this stock. The KEYTRUDA family was just over half of Merck's revenue in the second quarter of 2026. The company is openly planning for the end of that exclusivity when Keytruda loses primary U.S. patent protection in 2028. Management describes the stretch as more of a hill than a cliff, with a shallow dip and a fast return to growth.

He also advised CSK against considering Brendon McCullum, who previously coached Kolkata Knight Riders and guided them to the IPL final in 2021.
"It'll be good for CSK if they don't appoint Brendon McCullum as the head coach. They should say no to both Morgan and McCullum," he added.
Instead, Srikkanth believes CSK already have a familiar figure within their ecosystem who could seamlessly step into the role. His choice is former CSK opener Michael Hussey, who has previously worked with the franchise as a batting coach.
"CSK don't need anyone from outside when they have Mr Cricket with him. Michael Hussey should be the automatic head coach. He will be the best choice," Srikkanth said.
The coaching vacancy is only one part of a much bigger transition facing CSK. The franchise's most successful era was built around the close partnership between Fleming and MS Dhoni, with the duo forming the tactical and cultural backbone of the team for years.
Dhoni's future is another major question for the franchise, particularly as CSK look to build around captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and a younger core. Srikkanth himself believes that issue needs to be settled before the franchise can properly determine its next coaching structure.

For much of his IPL career, Ajinkya Rahane was defined by one role: the anchor.
Across 19 seasons, from the inaugural IPL in 2008 through to the 2026 edition, Rahane represented six different franchises and played 212 matches. He currently sits eighth on the tournament's all-time run-scoring list, with 5,367 runs at an average of 30.15 and a strike rate of 125.60.
Yet despite such longevity, Rahane had to wait 16 years to get his hands on an IPL ******* le.
The turning point came in 2023, when Chennai Super Kings brought him into their squad for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. At 35, Rahane reinvented his approach and produced a version of his batting that had rarely been seen in the tournament.
He scored 326 runs for the MS Dhoni-led side, but it was his strike rate that truly stood out. Rahane struck at 172.48 that season, a dramatic jump from his 103.90 strike rate the previous year. Before 2023, he had never managed a strike rate of 140 or more in an IPL season.
Looking back at the first phase of his IPL career during The Indian Express' Idea Exchange, Rahane explained how his role had shaped his approach.
"Before 2023, I think from 2019, when I left Rajasthan Royals then moved to Delhi Capitals and then KKR for a year, I think I hardly played. As a player, you always need that confidence. You need the surety to play with freedom. Before Delhi Capitals, I played for Rajasthan Royals for eight years and in between I played for RPSG. First three years I was with Mumbai Indians. So, it was always about the role that my team wanted me to play. I wanted to make that happen rather than going out of my role. So, the role that time was to be an anchor and then others will play around me. So, my strike at that time was around 120-130. And then I used to play till 15, 16, 17 overs, sometimes no till the end. But others were the attacking players around me."
The change began before Rahane even arrived at the IPL season. His preparation during the two months leading into the 2023 campaign helped him develop a more aggressive range of shots and, more importantly, gave him the confidence to attempt them in matches.
"When the shift happened in 2023 with CSK, I had a good two months of preparation. And then I started working a couple of the shots. I thought 'This is the time I should reinvent myself, probably play freely.' The opportunity came with CSK."
That opportunity arrived unexpectedly at the ******* hede Stadium on April 8, 2023.
Rahane had not initially been part of Chennai's playing XI. But an illness to Moeen Ali opened up a late opportunity, and Rahane responded with one of the most explosive innings of his IPL career.
Walking in at his home ground, he smashed 61 off just 27 ******* , hitting seven fours and three sixes. It was the first major glimpse of what became known as Rahane 2.0.

Mercedes-Benz has completed a €1bn ($1.14bn) expansion of its Kecskemét plant in Hungary.
The upgrade forms part of Mercedes-Benz Business Plan 2022–2026 that is aimed at "sustainably strengthening the competitiveness, efficiency and future viability of its entire production network".
The site has grown from 200 to 440ha, making it Mercedes-Benz's biggest plant in Hungary and one of the largest globally, the group noted.
Mercedes-Benz Group member of the board of management of production, quality and supply chain management Michael Schiebe said: "With the plant extension in Kecskemét, we are increasing the resilience and flexibility of our global production network. This site defines the future of our manufacturing: intelligent, connected, digital and consistently focused on efficiency, quality and sustainability.
"This enables us to competitively produce models such as the GLB and the new electric C-Class while at the same time strengthening the entire production network. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the team on site for their exceptional and passionate commitment."
