Argentina's state-controlled energy company YPF is close to signing several LNG sales agreements for its planned Argentina LNG project as it races toward a final investment decision later this year.
YPF CEO Horacio Marín said at the Gastech conference in Bangkok that the company expects to sign two or three LNG contracts covering between 0.5 million and 1.5 million tonnes per year each. YPF aims to have the agreements secured before partners make a final investment decision in November.
The $24-billion Argentina LNG development, backed by YPF, Italy's Eni and Abu Dhabi's XRG, is designed to turn the vast Vaca Muerta shale formation into a major source of LNG for international markets.
The initial development will feature two floating LNG facilities with combined capacity of 12 million tonnes per year, with potential expansion to 18 million tonnes. A dedicated 527-kilometer pipeline will transport gas from Vaca Muerta to the Atlantic coast in Río Negro province. YPF says the development will also include gas treatment and liquids infrastructure.
Eni and XRG each hold approximately 32% interests in the upstream blocks feeding the development, with YPF holding 36%.

September has arrived. This means that investors need to prepare themselves for what's historically at least been the worst calendar month of the year for stocks.
Since 1928, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has fallen by an average of 1.1% during September. Historically, the index has produced positive results just 44.5% of the time.

Given the current backdrop of high inflation, a war in Iran, a mixed labor market, and possible rate hikes from the Fed, it would be easy for investors to think that the S&P 500 could pull back once again -- and to unload shares in advance.
History suggests, however, that this could be the wrong move.

WASHINGTON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - U.S. construction spending unexpectedly fell in July, hitting the lowest level in nearly three years as higher mortgage ‌rates weighed on single-family homebuilding.
The Commerce Department's Census Bureau said on Tuesday ‌that construction spending dropped 0.5% to $2.158 trillion, the lowest level since October 2023. Data for June was revised higher to show construction spending unchanged instead of dipping 0.1%, as previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast construction spending would be unchanged in July.
Construction spending plunged 3.8% on a year-over-year basis in July. Spending on private ‌construction projects decreased 0.5% after easing 0.1% in June. Investment in residential construction tumbled 1.3%. Spending on single-family housing projects dropped 3.2%. On a year-over-year basis, it plummeted 6.5% in July.
Homebuilding is also being squeezed by a glut of unsold single-family houses. The average rate on the popular 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is hovering near a one-year high of 6.66%, data from mortgage finance agency Freddie Mac showed. ‌It has surged by almost 70 basis points since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran started in late February.
Spending on multi-family housing units, which account for a small share of the housing market, rose 0.2% in July.

J.M. Smucker reported fiscal first-quarter results on Wednesday that exceeded ******* yst expectations and raised its full-year earnings forecast, driven in part by tariff refunds and stronger coffee sales.
For the quarter ended July 31, Smucker earned an adjusted $3.24 a share, compared with $1.90 in the same period last year. That surpassed the Wall Street consensus estimate of $2.22 a share, according to Barron's. The adjusted earnings figure included an 84-cent-per-share benefit from tariff refunds received during the quarter. Net sales rose 5% to $2.22 billion, the company said.
On a GAAP basis, net income was $324.3 million, compared to a net loss of $43.9 million in the same period a year earlier. Gross profit more than doubled, rising 106%, and included approximately $115 million in tariff refunds.
The coffee business led the way. U.S. retail coffee revenue reached $807.8 million, a 13% increase year over year, with segment profit surging 124% to $300 million, the company said. Smucker credited higher coffee prices as the primary driver of overall net sales growth, alongside volume gains in Uncrustables sandwiches. The Sweet Baked Snacks segment was a weak spot, with net sales falling 7% to $236.5 million and segment profit declining 13%.
Free cash flow swung to $337.3 million from negative $94.9 million a year earlier, the company said.

Global freight middleman Ceva Logistics has completed the acquisition of couriers Paack Iberia and Paack France for integration into Colis Privé, its European last-mile delivery business.
About 490 employees will join Colis Privé through the transaction, which aims to strengthen the company's domestic network in France while enabling it to expand into Spain and Portugal, two fast-growing e-commerce markets, the company announced last week.
Ceva Logistics, part of France-based conglomerate CMA CGM, originally announced the deal in late June.
Paack supports retailers with an extensive delivery network (82 transfer centers and more than 5,000 active pickup points) in the Iberian peninsula and six urban delivery stations in France, bringing packages to individual residences as well as out-of-home delivery points.
Based in the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan area, Colis Privé relies on a national network of 56 sorting hubs and operational centers, as well as approximately 5,000 delivery drivers, to deliver parcels across France every day. In 2025, the acquisition of MIPI, which has more than 300 delivery drivers, strengthened its coverage of France's major metropolitan areas. The company serves leading French and international e-commerce players and is also present in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Airbnb (ABNB) has spent years telling investors artificial intelligence could transform travel.
Now it has a number to back up that claim.
Airbnb shares surged about 14% on Aug. 7 to their highest level in four years after the company raised its annual revenue-growth outlook and reported better-than-expected second-quarter results, Reuters reported.
Revenue increased 17% to $3.61 billion, while the company now expects full-year revenue growth in the mid-teens rather than its previous low-to-mid-teens forecast.
But one figure buried in those data may matter more to stockholders. Airbnb claimed its AI customer-support ****** istant upgrades helped reduce support costs per booking by 16% compared to a year ago, according to Reuters.

Generating $132,000 annually requires vastly different capital depending on strategy: $3.77M with DGRO/VYM, $2.2M blended, or just $1.1M using SPYI's 12% yield.
A 3% dividend growing 8% annually doubles income in nine years, eventually outpacing a flat 12% yield by year 15.
The couple's true income replacement need may be closer to $95,000 once payroll taxes and work expenses disappear, meaningfully lowering required capital.

Eleven thousand dollars a month works out to $132,000 a year. That is roughly what a dual-earner professional household in a mid cost of living metro spends after paying off the mortgage, and it is the number a 58-year-old couple staring down retirement in the next few years has to solve for. The real question is how much capital each of them demands to produce that check, and what the couple gives up at every yield level.

During the lightning round on the August 5 episode of CNBC's Mad Money, host Jim Cramer responded to a caller asking about CME Group Inc. (NASDAQ:CME). He commented:
CME Group is very good. I've got to tell you, I like Cboe, too. I've always liked the companies that are involved with trading because they have monopolies or at least duopolies.
Cramer's endorsement highlights the core economic moat that protects exchange operators like CME Group Inc. (NASDAQ:CME). As the world's largest financial derivatives exchange, the company controls major market infrastructure across interest rates, equity indices, energy, agricultural commodities, and foreign exchange.
When evaluating CME Group Inc. (NASDAQ:CME) on August 5, Cramer explicitly brought up Cboe Global Markets Inc. (NASDAQ:CBOE), grouping the two together as prime examples of exchange operators with pricing power. His mention builds directly on commentary from the August 3 episode of Mad Money, where Cramer highlighted Cboe as one of July's standout performers after gaining 27.8%. He remarked:
Now, in sixth place, there's… Cboe Global Markets… big options marketplace, is up 27.8%. And that's all about the volatility that gradually built throughout the month. Cboe also reported a solid quarter last Friday, giving its stock one more leg higher. I don't think it's expensive.

Surprisingly enough, most hedge funds habitually underperform the broad market. That's what makes any of them that reliably beat the S&P 500 of such interest.
And that's what makes Bill Ackman's hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management (NYSE: PS) so interesting right now. Although it lagged early this year, it has outperformed -- albeit unevenly -- the broad market since its launch in 2004. Moreover, its flagship fund Pershing Square Holdings' (OTC: PSHZF) positions are leading the marketwide bullish charge again right now.

Even more incredible is that rather than diversifying this portfolio, a mere seven stocks account for 98% of the fund's total value. Here's a rundown of those seven.
Just because Ackman likes them doesn't necessarily mean they're all right for your portfolio. He and Pershing's investors are accustomed to inconsistent performance. You may not be able to afford such uncertainty and prolonged dry spells from your portfolio.

What happened: Bond yields continued to climb on Thursday as oil prices rose amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The 10-year yield (^TNX), used as a benchmark for mortgage and loan rates, rose to 4.7% on Thursday, the highest level since January 2025 The 30-year yield (^TYX) climbed to 5.19%. The long-dated bond notched its longest stretch above 5% since 2007, the year prior to the financial crisis.
Why it's important: Yields on the 10-year and 30-year remained above key psychological levels, raising concerns over mounting debt and sticky inflation as tensions between the US and Iran escalate, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of contention between the two sides.
What else you need to know: Over the past couple of weeks, investors have largely shrugged off rising oil prices as artificial intelligence became the central theme of economic and market growth.
But increasingly, investors may be anticipating that the Federal Reserve will need to tighten monetary policy, with Polymarket bettors **** igning a 71% probability of a rate hike in 2026.

NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - The dollar dipped from a one-week high on Wednesday after four straight daily advances, while the yen recovered slightly from its weakest level in nearly four decades as traders gauged the likelihood of intervention from Tokyo and the chances of faster rate hikes by ‌the Bank of ******* an.
The dollar has been rising in recent days as increased tensions in the U.S.-Iran war have caused a reversal in oil prices and ‌again fanned inflation fears.
Oil prices touched their highest in almost six weeks, with U.S. crude last up 3.28% to $87.11 a barrel and Brent at $94.34 per barrel, up 3.66%, as concerns about supply disruptions increased.

Fred Alger Management, an investment management company, released its "Alger Mid Cap Focus Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. US equities strongly rebounded in the second quarter, with the S&P 500 Index returning 15.2%. A ceasefire between the United States and Iran and accelerated investment in artificial intelligence (AI) fueled market optimism in the quarter, driving the Information Technology and Industrials sectors forward, while Energy and Utilities lagged due to falling oil and gas prices. Despite discussions about AI disruption, opportunities are identified within sectors adopting the technology as it enters its agentic phase. The Alger Mid Cap Focus Fund's Class A shares outperformed the Russell Midcap Growth Index in the quarter, driven by strong performances in Information Technology and Health Care, while Communication Services and Consumer Discretionary detracted from the performance. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Alger Mid Cap Focus Fund highlighted GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL). GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) is a Canadian-based waste management company offering non-hazardous solid waste management services. On July 17, 2026, GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) closed at $39.56 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $14.28 billion. GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) posted a one-month return of 13.03%, while its shares lost 15.87% over the past 52 weeks.
Alger Mid Cap Focus Fund stated the following regarding GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Insmed Incorporated, GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL), and Karman Holdings Inc. were among the top detractors from performance. GFL Environmental is one of the largest diversified environmental services companies in North America, providing solid waste collection, recycling, and related services across Canada and a broad footprint of U.S. states. During the quarter, shares detracted from performance even as the company reported better-than expected first-quarter results and raised its full-year guidance. The weakness instead centered on GFL's announcement of a sizeable acquisition that expands its presence in Western Canada, which pressured the stock as investors weighed the equity component used to fund the deal and the integration involved in absorbing a large new platform."
GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) is not on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 44 hedge fund portfolios held GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) at the end of the first quarter, up from 43 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to ben
