High-income households can use what's called a "backdoor Roth" to utilize a Roth IRA despite the program's standard income restrictions. This can be an effective way to build a tax-free stream of income for your retirement, and it is a completely legal strategy.
Whether this method will reduce your taxes depends heavily on your tax rates now versus what you'll pay in retirement. For some high-earners, a Roth IRA can actually be a money loser if it means you end up spending more on taxes today than you will save on taxes in retirement.
Do you have questions about taxes and retirement planning? Speak with a financial advisor today.
A Roth IRA is what's called a "post-tax" retirement account. This means that you contribute to it with money that you've already paid taxes on. Then, in retirement, you make withdrawals on both your contributions and any growth completely tax-free. The idea is that it's more expensive upfront to build a Roth IRA compared with a pre-tax portfolio like a traditional IRA or 401(k), but you save taxes on your portfolio at its peak value as a retiree.

On August 26, Movado Group (NYSE:MOV) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results that pushed adjusted earnings per share to $0.54 from $0.23 a year earlier, while net sales climbed 4.9% to $169.8 million. The jewelry and watch company also confirmed it will stop issuing annual financial guidance going forward, choosing instead to focus commentary on near-term trends. For a business built on Swiss craftsmanship and a stable of licensed fashion brands, the quarter marked a fifth straight period of positive momentum, and it came with a few surprises tucked inside the numbers.
Some of the headline strength came from a one-time source: $3.2 million in IEEPA duty refunds tied to tariffs paid between February 2025 and May 2026, which lifted GAAP gross margin to 59.4% from 54.1%. But strip that out and adjusted gross margin still rose 340 basis points to 57.5%, driven by favorable channel and product mix, strategic pricing, and less discounting. Growth was broad rather than concentrated in one line item. US net sales rose 4.9%, international sales rose 4.9% as well (4.1% in constant currency), and Latin America and India posted particularly strong results.
Movado.com sales jumped 8%, and Olivia Burton sales grew 23%, powered by small-shaped watches focused on the U.K. and US markets. The company also flagged a resurgence in traditional watch interest among younger buyers, pointing to the Baby Face mini strap watch, which sold out more than 400 units on movado.com in under a month. Looking ahead, Movado is expanding its Tapestry partnership to launch Kate Spade watches starting next fiscal year. The balance sheet backs up the momentum, with $211.6 million in cash, no debt, and $16.6 million already returned to shareholders through dividends this year.
Not every piece of this quarter travels into the second half. Management was explicit that the favorable mix of lower duty rate inventory that padded margins is temporary and is not expected to continue, and second-half gross margin guidance of 55% to 56% reflects that normalization. Sallie DeMarsilis also noted that gross margin gains were partially offset by higher shipping costs tied to fuel surcharges and rising e-commerce volume.
Geographically, the Middle East remains a soft spot, with Efraim Grinberg citing tourism-related headwinds in a region still affected by regional conflict. Operating expenses rose to $85.7 million from $80.6 million, largely on higher performance-based compensation and marketing spend. There is also a smaller but notable item: a $0.2 million pretax charge tied to a misconduct investigation within a Dubai-based Swiss subsidiary branch. And while Movado expects to recover another $6.8 million in IEEPA duties, it has chosen not to recognize that gain until the cash actually arrives, a reminder that not all of this quarter's tailwind is guaranteed to repeat.

India raised its purchases of Russia's Far East crude blend ESPO in the first seven months of the year as China backed out of the spot market in the first months of the Iran war and deliveries to India from the Middle East slumped with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Total exports of the ESPO grade from Russia's Far Eastern port of Kozmino rose by 6% in January-July from a year earlier, Russian daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday, citing a report by Argus.
China remained the key buyer of ESPO crude, but its share of the shipments from Kozmino fell to 83% from 88%. At the same time, India's share of the ESPO exports increased to 16% to 12% in the first seven months of 2026, per data from Vortexa and Kpler cited in the report.
India raised its ESPO imports due to the slump in Chinese oil imports between May and June, and the supply disruptions in the Middle East, which delayed many term cargoes Indian refiners were expecting in the early summer.
The rise in Indian ESPO imports are due to logistics reasons and the Chinese pullback between April and June, according to Dmitry Prokofiev, director of external communications at NEFT Research.

October live cattle (LEV26) futures on Friday fell $1.20 to $211.725 and for the week were down $6.20. November feeder cattle (GFX26) futures lost $1.55 to $309.925 and on the week lost $6.325. The cattle futures markets have seen steady technical selling over the past four weeks as both markets remain trapped in price downtrends on the daily bar charts.
Cattle traders this week will digest the implications of President Donald Trump's administration trying to bring down the price of beef at the meat counter. Trump Friday said on social media that his administration will seek changes to allow farmers and ranchers to slaughter and process their own products in response to calls to loosen the grip of the big companies that dominate U.S. meat processing. "I am authorizing legal documents to be drawn in order to allow Farmers and Ranchers to be given the right to PROCESS THEIR OWN FOOD," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "This should move quickly." The southern U.S. border reopening and Trump's move to allow tariff-free beef imports aimed at lowering beef prices have weighed on cattle markets recently, pushing live and feeder futures near nine-month lows.

I've been taking a look at Cisco (CSCO) since I saw a long setup back in Feb. 2026 after its record-breaking Q2 FY2026 at just under $80. Then the stock skyrocketed a massive 70% plus since, to a new all-time high of $130.37 on June 4, 2026.
And now after a retracement to the current levels, Jim Cramer just weighed in on the Aug. 27 Mad Money Lightning Round with his clearest endorsement yet.
"Cisco actually had a really good quarter, and I know that they gave very conservative guidance, but that's all it was," Cramer said.
The answer is I would absolutely buy, buy, buy.
I haven't seen Cramer use the phrase "buy, buy, buy" lightly. Three buys. No hedging. In Cramer's vocabulary, that's about as unambiguous as it gets.

During the August 24 Mad Money lightning round, when a caller inquired about Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR), Cramer responded:
Okay, now here's the issue with Palantir. I have been committed to saying it was going to go up to $250, at least $200. I'm not backing away. They've had an amazing quarter. It's a great spec, but it is a spec. And I know people pilloried me when I came all the way back. But I stuck with it, and I'm not leaving it. I think it's real good. What can I say?
Cramer's unwavering stance on the company builds on a conviction he defended through summer market volatility. Following a dramatic weekly rally earlier in August where the stock jumped 44.1% in under a week, a caller during the August 11 episode highlighted its lack of direct enterprise software competition, and Cramer responded:
I got to tell you, the litany is true. I have been saying that Palantir, remember, I was the guy who was on the hook for the $200 going to $250, but they're making me proud, and are they my buddy, pal, friends? Probably not… I will say they had a great quarter and they deserve a little bit more. They deserve some of the love.
Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) presented a stellar second-quarter earnings report. Total revenue surged 94% year-over-year to $1.94 billion, comfortably beating Wall Street consensus estimates by $130 million. Growth was heavily powered by the U.S. commercial segment, which skyrocketed 149% year-over-year to $764 million as enterprise adoption of the Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) accelerated. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share reached $0.41, topping expectations by $0.06. The management raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to approximately $8.15 billion, solidifying Palantir Technologies Inc.'s (NASDAQ:PLTR) status as a dominant software player in enterprise and government AI sovereignty deployments.

NEW YORK, Aug 27 (Reuters) - The dollar was little changed on Thursday after a round of economic data, while attention began to shift towards a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson ‌Hole symposium.
Warsh is scheduled to speak at the gathering of central bankers on Friday, where investors will watch for clues ‌on how policymakers plan to navigate a landscape in which higher Treasury yields could do some of the tightening work for them.
The dollar has rebounded somewhat this week from sharp declines in the prior week after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Treasury would double the size of quarterly repurchases of longer-dated bonds, sparking concerns that a shift to a more direct strategy to mitigate the rise in borrowing costs could lead to a debasement of the dollar.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, edged up 0.02% to 99.14, with the euro ‌up 0.01% at $1.165.

Revenue surged 73% year over year to $79.1 million, driven primarily by Bitcoin mining, while adjusted EBITDA improved to $13.4 million. However, HIVE reported a $142.9 million GAAP net loss, largely due to an $84.7 million non-cash Swedish VAT provision and $53.7 million in depreciation.

The company ended the quarter with $208 million in cash and is advancing data-center projects in Sweden, Canada and Paraguay, while continuing to contest the Swedish VAT **** sment. Management expects HPC to reach roughly 40% of revenue after contracted GPU deployments come online.

On August 7, AdvanSix (NYSE:ASIX) reported second-quarter sales of $421 million, up about 3% from a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA fell $24 million to $32 million and adjusted EPS dropped $1.50 to $0.19. Behind those numbers sits a story of two forces pulling in opposite directions: a $72 million year-over-year jump in raw material costs, and a fertilizer season where farmers spent less than the company expected. What stands out is how completely AdvanSix priced its way through the cost spike, even as volume told a rougher story.
The quarter's 3% sales growth broke down into 18% favorable pricing against a 15% volume decline. Raw material pass-through pricing rose 13% as benzene and propylene costs climbed, while market-based pricing improved 5%, largely on higher plant nutrient pricing tied to sulfur input costs. That combination fully offset the $72 million raw material headwind for the quarter, and the swing looked even sharper sequentially: a $10 million net price/cost headwind in the first quarter flipped into a $39 million tailwind in the second. AdvanSix also closed out the full fertilizer year near a record for domestic granular ammonium sulfate volume, supported by progress toward a 75% ammonium sulfate granular conversion mix, with its sustained growth program generating returns above 30%.
Looking ahead, the company plans to grow ammonia sales volume 30% in 2026 against 2025's already record year, and it is applying for a USDA grant to expand ammonia capacity further. Management also pointed to a stronger cash flow picture in the back half of 2026, citing a lower capital spending run rate, working capital tailwinds from the fourth quarter fertilizer pre-buy program, and 45Q carbon capture tax credits.
The same quarter that showed pricing discipline also showed real demand strain. Plant nutrient volume came in below expectations as rising grower input costs met steady, lower crop and grain prices, squeezing farmer profitability enough to cut overall fertilizer consumption and drive a $17 million unfavorable volume impact. A planned ammonia plant turnaround, shifted into the quarter to align with a supplier's pipeline inspection, added another $4 million operational hit. Sulfur costs have been a bigger problem still. The Tampa sulfur marker closed at a record $705 per long ton in the third quarter, up from $655 in the second, and AdvanSix estimates every $100 per long ton move costs it roughly $35 million a year.

Aside from artificial intelligence juggernaut Nvidia, no company garners more attention during earnings season than Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA)(NYSE: BRKB). The trillion-dollar conglomerate that now-retired CEO Warren Buffett helped build is closely watched by value seekers and long-term investors.
While most of Wall Street has homed in on CEO Greg Abel ending a 14-quarter streak of net stock sales that began in the fourth quarter of 2022, the bigger story from the latest quarterly report is what, specifically, Berkshire's new boss has been buying.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
According to regulatory filings, no stock has been purchased more aggressively since Abel took the reins than Google parent Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL)(NASDAQ: GOOG). After Buffett initiated this position last year, Abel more than tripled Berkshire's stake in Alphabet during the first quarter and added another $10 billion via private placement in the second quarter. It's now Berkshire's No. 5 holding.
But this isn't the stock that should have investors buzzing.

The euro looks like it is testing the 1.1560 level, an area that had been important previously on a swing high, so we'll have to see if we can break above there. It certainly looks like it's struggling, but I also recognize that recently the 1.15 level had been support. Typically speaking, this is a pretty choppy pair, and when we zoom out on the longer-term charts, we start to see that we are approaching an area that historically has seen a lot of chop and noise. So a little bit of a pullback here would not be surprising to me at all. Certainly, we are seeing interest rates in America try to turn back around to the upside during the early part of the session, so something worth keeping an eye on.
Currently, the US dollar and the Swiss franc seem to be very consolidated, and this is typical for this pair. But the interest rate differential most certainly favors the US dollar, and carry traders will be attracted to the wide spread here that they collect at any close of the day, especially with a lot of traders on Wednesday getting triple swap. Looks like the area right around 0.81 continues to be a magnet for price.
And finally, the British pound is stretching towards the 1.35 level. This is a lot like the euro in the sense that we had reached close to a swing high and failed a bit. Rates in the United States climbing a little bit early may provide a little bit of a headwind as well. 1.35 being broken would obviously be a strong headline because of the large round psychological number. It could bring in more buyers; we'd have to wait and see.
Currently, the 1.3435 level or so looks to be support. Could be range-bound. Today has no major economic announcements of any serious consequence. And with that, it would make sense if traders were a little bit range-bound and indecisive.

Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) rose about 15% on Thursday, July 30, without releasing any news of its own. Shares closed that day at $501.77 and edged higher again on Friday, leaving them more than 30% short of their 52-week high of $739.67. And the company's next chance to justify the move arrives on Thursday, Aug. 13, when it reports fiscal third-quarter results.
The catalyst was a peer, not Applied itself. Lam Research, which sells chip-manufacturing equipment into many of the same factories, reported record June-quarter revenue, operating margin, and earnings per share on Wednesday, and it guided for about $8.1 billion in September-quarter revenue.

Investors marked up equipment stocks across the board on Thursday, and Applied Materials, already up more than 200% from its 52-week low of $154.47, moved with them.
Applied's own most recent update supports the optimism. In May, the company reported record fiscal second-quarter results: Revenue rose 11% year over year to $7.91 billion, and non-GAAP (adjusted) earnings per share grew 20% to $2.86. Management guided for fiscal third-quarter revenue of about $8.95 billion, plus or minus $500 million, which would be another record. Also worth noting, Applied raised its quarterly dividend 15% this year, to $0.53 per share, its ninth straight annual increase.

The artificial intelligence boom has created an era of unprecedented uncertainty in the global economy. Large language models are evolving as quickly as they are being integrated, creating a major headache for anyone trying to project their future impact or even their current energy footprint. But while we don't know exactly how much energy will be needed to power the tech sector in coming years, we do know that it will be a whole lot, and the market is already reacting accordingly.
"Energy companies are raising money at IPO at their fastest pace this century, taking advantage of investors' hunt for new ways to bet on the boom in power-intensive AI data centres," states a recent report from the Financial Times. In the first half of this year, the money raised in initial public offerings for energy startups was the highest since 1999, when the first dot-com boom spurred a similar gold rush. And the rate of growth is staggering: in 2025, energy companies raised a total of $4.3 billion for the entire year. The total for 2026 is already at $12.6 billion, and we still have another half year to go.
"Investors started by buying AI-linked names like Nvidia. Then they said, 'hold on, every chip needs energy to power it'," RBC clean energy ******* yst Chris Dendrinos was quoted by the Financial Times. "That's put a huge tailwind behind these companies."
This spending spree includes a wide range of energy companies, including unproven and next-gen energy technologies that are enjoying a windfall of funding that they may not otherwise have achieved. The tech sector is investing heavily in pie-in-the-sky energy research like nuclear fusion, enhanced geothermal energy, and ******* e-based solar power. Earlier this year Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, signed a deal with startup Overview Energy to develop as much as 1 gigawatt of ******* e-based solar power.

Historically, nuclear fusion research is so expensive and seen as so experimental that it's been funded by governments and huge public projects. But now fusion startups are popping up in astonishing numbers and seeing successful IPOs.

Retail investors made SK Hynix (SKHY) one of their biggest buys on Friday, according to the latest data from VandaTrack. By Monday, the stock had fallen as much as 9% as South Korea's KOSPI (^KS11) plunged nearly 9%.
That kind of whiplash is becoming familiar. Retail traders are cashing out of Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA), Nvidia (NVDA), and chip stocks while chasing newer stories. The broader market is not following them lower.
VandaTrack data shows Sandisk (SNDK), Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia among the biggest sources of retail selling last week. Western Digital (WDC), Meta (META), and American Airlines (AAL) also made the list.
The flow pattern looks "more consistent with rotation than outright de-risking," Vanda wrote Monday. Retail trading activity remains near records, but investors are selling nearly as much as they buy.
The "Magnificent Seven" is no longer one retail position. Microsoft and Nvidia attracted net buying over Vanda's 10-day window, while Apple and Tesla became sources of cash.

Apple announced a new multiyear agreement with Broadcom on Wednesday valued at more than $30 billion to design and produce custom silicon components and wireless connectivity technologies for Apple products. The deal is expected to result in the production of more than 15 billion U.S.-made chips and will support hundreds of American jobs, Apple said.
The agreement is the largest commitment to date under Apple's American Manufacturing Program, a domestic manufacturing initiative the company launched in 2025. As part of the deal, Broadcom will spend $1.5 billion to expand and modernize its manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado, where it will produce radio frequency components — including FBAR filters — and wireless connectivity technologies. The deal extends the companies' collaboration through 2031, according to a filing Broadcom submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday.
"Apple and Broadcom have a long history together, and this new phase of our partnership further accelerates our commitment to American manufacturing and innovation," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. Cook also thanked President Donald Trump and his administration for supporting the project.
Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan said Apple's commitment will help the chipmaker expand its manufacturing presence in Fort Collins.
The agreement is part of Apple's broader pledge to invest $600 billion in the U.S. economy over four years, the company said.

CleanSpark Inc. (NASDAQ: $CLSK) remains the most heavily shorted crypto company with a market value above $2 billion, keeping the Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) miner at the center of a market increasingly divided over the sector's next leg.
Short interest in CleanSpark rose to 33.04% in June from 32.76% a month earlier, the highest level among crypto-linked companies in the group. The reading comes after Bitcoin fell as low as $58,000 during the month and U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $4.5 billion in net outflows, their worst monthly total since launching in January 2024.
CleanSpark has continued to grow its Bitcoin treasury even as pressure builds across mining stocks. The company said Tuesday it produced 614 Bitcoin in June and ended the month with 13,924 BTC, up from 13,470 at the end of May.
