The gain traced almost entirely to the Iran war, as Hormuz disruption pushed crude and gas prices to multi-year highs and lifted European refining margins while Middle East capacity stayed offline. Refining and chemicals income rose 362% to $1.8 billion, and exploration and production earnings climbed 64% to $3.2 billion.
CEO Patrick Pouyanné called the strait a battleground and said closures could become normal, leaving the real question: what the company looks like once that windfall fades.

"You just get on with it, don't you," Matthew said, rather matter-of-factly, of her remarkable feat 17 years ago at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.

Inter confirm Yann Bisseck has signed a contract extension until June 2031.
German centre-back Bisseck has signed a new contract with Inter.
The defending Serie A champions confirmed the deal with an official statement.
"FC Internazionale Milano is pleased to announce that Yann Bisseck has extended his contract with the Club: the 2000-born defender will remain with the Nerazzurri until 30 June 2031," the club said on Wednesday.
Bisseck, 25, joined Inter in the summer of 2023, completing a permanent €7m transfer from Austrian side Aarhus.

Newcastle United have walked out of the race to sign Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie (20) with their Premier League rivals Sunderland AFC now the clear favourites to sign the France U21 international, according to The Guardian. The Black Cats, who are set to compete in the UEFA Europa League next season, have already secured an agreement on personal terms with Methalie over a five-year contract, as reported yesterday by RMC.
The 20-year-old is billed as one of the best French prospects in the left-back role, with a senior France bow expected in a few years with Lucas Digne and Théo Hernandez entering the twilight of their career. Methalie has been extensively scouted by Eddie Howe's Magpies, but the latter have opted against submitting a bid this summer. Aston Villa also enquired about the Toulouse left-back.

World No. 13 Casper Ruud finishes off captain Yannick Noah's six-man roster in what will be Ruud's sixth straight Laver Cup appearance. Ruud joins Alexander Zverev (World No. 2), Carlos Alcaraz (World No. 3), Flavio Cobolli (World No. 9), Jakub Mensik (World No. 17) and Rafael Jodar (World No. 24) to take on Team World from Sept. 25-27 at the O2 in London.
Jodar is the lone new addition from last year's team that lost to Team World 15-9 in San Francisco. He is replacing Holger Rune.
"Casper is exactly the type of player you want on your team," Noah said. "He's a fantastic competitor, a great teammate and someone who really embraces what the Laver Cup is all about. I'm really happy to have him back on Team Europe."

The reality star, 46, publicly blasted her daughter Jessica Shannon's ex, Shyann McCant, after McCant allegedly cheated with another woman.
"Well since I'm always to b the blame for every relationships not working out," June began in an Instagram post shared on Tuesday, June 21, alongside a photo from a group dinner. "Since it was shared publicly and yall have been wanting to see who Shyann cheated with and left Jessica for here you go."

Thousands of baseball fans turned out Saturday for the opening of MLB All-Star Village at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where interactive exhibits, games and attractions welcomed visitors as part of MLB All-Star Week.
The four-day event opened to the public at 10 a.m. and quickly drew crowds, with organizers reporting more than 5,000 fans in the first hour. This year's theme highlights Philadelphia neighborhoods and includes activities designed for fans of all ages.
Among the visitors was 8-year-old Ashton, who smiled for photos in his baseball jersey while taking part in attractions that allowed fans to experience the excitement of the MLB Draft.
"Great scene. As soon as we walked in, everything is super eye-catching, and it just gives the boys an opportunity to fall in love more with the game of baseball," said Andrew Yannarella of Perkasie, Ashton's dad.
Organizers said creating activities for the entire family is a key goal of the event.

USC women's basketball will have star power this coming season with JuJu Watkins joining Jazzy Davidson and Kennedy Smith. More than that, USC should have cohesion on the court, as Cece Clay explains at her USC Women's Basketball Media Lab.
"This year's offseason feels different," Clay began. "Last year, USC had to move fast. This year, they got to move with purpose. When you look at this roster now, it's clear what the priority was: fit. They needed players who could balance out what was already on the team and address what the gaps/deficiencies were, from this past season, defensively and offensively. And when you look at the additions, that's exactly what they did.
"Ryann Bennett brings stability to the backcourt, but defensively, she also brings something USC wanted. She's a disruptor. She can guard on the ball. She has great hands. She can pressure, bother ball-handlers, and create problems without needing the offense to run through her. That matters because USC didn't just need another guard. They needed a guard who could fit, defend, connect possessions, and bring energy without forcing the game. That's Ryann Bennett.

The Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., stands as one of the most iconic properties in U.S. history.
The place was rented by patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. back in 1926 and the family added on to the property since purchasing it as the decades have gone by. Now featuring three distinct houses sitting on six acres, the property is not just a spot for scenic summer getaways, but it also serves as a family hub during huge events. It was used as the base for John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign back in 1960 and several weddings have been held on the property — Maria Shriver's to Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 1986 and Sarah Kennedy's 2023 nuptials to Jam Sulahry.
The Kennedy compound has also served as a fortress during sadder times. President Kennedy's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, was laid to rest at the neighboring Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery and when Ethel Kennedy died in 2024, the family returned to Hyannis Port for a funeral mass nearby at Our Lady of Victory Parish.

Inter are on the verge of signing goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio, with a fee of approximately €3 million agreed and a three-year contract worth €1.5 million net per season ready for the player to sign.
According to Tuttosport via Tuttomercatoweb, Provedel is expected in Milan imminently to undergo medical examinations before putting pen to paper on a deal running through to 2029. The agreement between the clubs has been finalised after a negotiation in which Lazio initially sought closer to €4–5 million before converging on Inter’s valuation.
The move has been in motion for several weeks. As SempreInter reported in June, the Nerazzurri had identified Provedel as their primary goalkeeping target, with personal terms reached before the club-to-club fee was resolved. The process accelerated once Inter cleared their UEFA Settlement Agreement obligations, giving the club cleaner room to operate in the market.
Tuttosport also reveals that Inter had a contingency ready. Had the Lazio talks broken down, sporting director Beppe Marotta’s staff had identified Konstantinos Tzolakis – the 2002-born Olympiacos goalkeeper with Greek international experience – as the primary alternative. Inter ultimately did not need to pursue that route.

Inter have retained just one of their veterans whose contracts were expiring, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij, and Matteo Darmian all left the club on June 30th.
According to Calciomercato, the Armenian midfielder accepted a significantly reduced rate after pocketing €4M last year. He was contemplating retirement but decided to keep going and will earn about half the previous sum in 2026/2027. Instead, the Dutch defender passed on a similar offer and quickly accepted a proposal from Panathinaikos. The two Italians plot to continue playing as well and will weigh their options in the coming days. The Nerazzurri had offered a front-office role to the fullback.
Inter aren’t moving on from their initial plan in the midfield for now. They continue to prioritize Curtis Jones despite the large gap in the negotiation with Liverpool, Corriere dello Sport informs. Nottingham Forest showed interest in him as well, as they are about to sell Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. Inter have officially confirmed that 37-year-old midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has put pen to paper on a new contract extension that will keep him with the club until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Undefeated El Paso boxer Ivy Enriquez now has an opponent for her upcoming fight at the El Paso Coliseum.
The 19-year-old Enriquez, who is 7-0 with two knockouts, will fight Mexico's Perla Lomeli, who is 7-8 with one knockout, in a scheduled eight-round fight at 118 pounds.
Enriquez is an eight-time amateur national champion and international gold medalist.

Inter Milan announced on Tuesday the departure of goalkeeper Yann Sommer, central defender Francesco Acerbi and right-back Matteo Darmian.
Former Switzerland keeper Sommer joined Inter in 2023 and won two Serie A ****** les, an Italian Cup and an Italian Super Cup as well featuring in a brace of Champions League finals.
The 37-year-old's starting berth will likely be taken by Spaniard Josep Martinez, who had been his understudy in recent campaigns.
"Sommer carried responsibility with remarkable composure, giving confidence not only to his defenders but to the entire team," Inter said.

The national oil company of the United Arab Emirates, ADNOC, has signed agreements with BP and TotalEnergies to let the European oil and gas supermajors take 10% each in the consortium developing one of Abu Dhabi's largest gas fields.
Both BP and TotalEnergies announced on Thursday they had signed their respective concession agreements to join the development of the Bab Gas Cap project in Abu Dhabi.
BP will now hold a 10% interest in the Bab Gas Cap concession, which is expected to produce up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas. The Bab Gas Cap project, the largest gas cap development of its kind globally, is made up of three reservoirs in the Bab Field – one of Abu Dhabi's largest onshore oil fields – and involves the co-production of gas and condensate.
The new concession for the Bab Gas Cap project will be operated by ADNOC Onshore, with ADNOC holding 60%, BP and TotalEnergies 10% each, China's CNPC with an 8% interest, ****** anese JODCO/INPEX with 5%, China's ZhenHua (4%), and South Korea's GS Energy with 3%.

French energy major TotalEnergies has signed an agreement to acquire a 10% interest in the Bab Gas Cap Concession in Abu Dhabi, strengthening its long-standing partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as the UAE accelerates development of its natural gas resources.
The concession will be operated by ADNOC Onshore, which holds a 60% stake, alongside partners bp (10%), CNPC (8%), JODCO/INPEX (5%), ZhenHua (4%), and GS Energy (3%). The project is designed to develop the extensive gas cap resources above the Bab onshore oil field and is targeting production of 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
The development builds on the 40-year renewal of Abu Dhabi's onshore oil concession in 2015, when international partners, including TotalEnergies, secured continued participation in one of the emirate's largest producing ******* ets. Since then, the companies have advanced plans to commercialize the Bab field's gas resources, which also contain valuable condensates.
The project supports Abu Dhabi's strategy to expand domestic gas production, increase condensate output, and strengthen its growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) business. A coalition of seven blue states sued the Trump administration Tuesday after it paid a French company nearly $1 billion in taxpayer money to not build offshore wind farms.
The lawsuit, led by New York attorney general Letitia James, argued that the deal struck between TotalEnergies and the Trump administration earlier this year deprived their states of much-needed power, and could raise electricity costs in the New England and mid-Atlantic regions.
In March, the Trump administration announced it would pay French energy giant TotalEnergies $928 million in taxpayer funds to reimburse the company for leases it had purchased under the Biden administration, allowing it to develop two offshore wind farms in waters near New York and North Carolina. The vast majority of that — $795 million — would have gone towards developing the New York project.
In exchange, TotalEnergies would spend that reimbursed money on the development of a new liquified natural gas plant in Texas, helping export US LNG overseas to Europe, CEO Patrick Pouyanné said in a statement at the time.
In April, the administration announced it would spend another nearly $900 million to repay two more wind energy developers to not build projects in New York and California (the April deal is not part of the current lawsuit).
