Division III powerhouse Mount Union lost its first regular-season game since 2016 on Saturday.
The Purple Raiders fell 24-23 to Wheaton in their 2026 season-opener after Wheaton blocked a game-tying extra point with 22 seconds to go. Mount Union's Kayden Minner scored on a 1-yard run ahead of the failed extra point, and the Purple Raiders elected to go for the tie and potential overtime instead of what could have been a game-winning two-point conversion.
After blocking the PAT, Wheaton then recovered Mount Union's onside kick.
The loss snapped a regular-season win streak that lasted 85 games. Before Saturday, the last time Mount Union lost a non-playoff game was on Nov. 12, 2016, when John Carroll scored a 31-28 win. Most of the members of that Mount Union team are now in their 30s.
Mount Union made the semifinals of the D3 playoffs that season and won the 2017 national ****** le with a 15-0 season. Since then, the team has, remarkably, not won a national championship as the regular-season win streak lived on. Over the past six full seasons, Mount Union has lost the Stagg Bowl three times and was eliminated in the third round of the Division III playoffs in 2025 after an 11-0 start.

The lack of a settlement between Iran and the United States, along with a tightening of the economic noose around Iran, drove energy prices higher. At the end of August, the hostilities were escalating as the U.S. attempt to use economic weapons has caused backlash from Iran. Crude oil, oil products, crack spreads, natural gas, Chicago ethanol swaps, and Rotterdam coal posted gains in August.

October live cattle (LEV26) futures on Friday fell $1.20 to $211.725 and for the week were down $6.20. November feeder cattle (GFX26) futures lost $1.55 to $309.925 and on the week lost $6.325. The cattle futures markets have seen steady technical selling over the past four weeks as both markets remain trapped in price downtrends on the daily bar charts.
Cattle traders this week will digest the implications of President Donald Trump's administration trying to bring down the price of beef at the meat counter. Trump Friday said on social media that his administration will seek changes to allow farmers and ranchers to slaughter and process their own products in response to calls to loosen the grip of the big companies that dominate U.S. meat processing. "I am authorizing legal documents to be drawn in order to allow Farmers and Ranchers to be given the right to PROCESS THEIR OWN FOOD," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "This should move quickly." The southern U.S. border reopening and Trump's move to allow tariff-free beef imports aimed at lowering beef prices have weighed on cattle markets recently, pushing live and feeder futures near nine-month lows.

I asked how low crude oil's price can go in a June 30, 2026, Barchart article, where I concluded with the following:
Significant changes in oil market dynamics and the U.S. desire to push inflation lower could send prices to lower lows in the $40-$50 per barrel range. The long-term chart highlights lower highs since 2008, and the current price action suggests oil will likely continue to make lower lows.

It took some time for it to come together, but the full NASCAR Cup Series schedule for 2027 is officially set in stone. Next year's schedule sees minor tweaks compared to 2026, including a revamp of how the 2027 Chase will look.
Among the adjustments include the Wheatley Vodka Clash exhibition race to start the season. Previously at Bowman-Gray Stadium, the Clash will return to the Daytona International Speedway for the first time since 2021 and first time on the oval configuration since 2020.
Dover Motor Speedway returns to the schedule as a points-paying race in 2027 after hosting the All-Star Race in 2026. The $1 million All-Star exhibition returns to North Wilkesboro Speedway after the North Carolina short track was the site for the event from 2023-2025.
North Wilkesboro loses its points-paying race in 2027 after hosting one this season for the first time since 1996.
The Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway moves out of the Chase and will be the regular-season finale in 2027. World Wide Technology Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedway also move out of the Chase in 2027 to points-paying races in August.

When you find out an actor whose work you enjoy is blatantly racist and antisemitic in real life, does that realization ruin every movie they've been a part of?
What about an author who has expressed harmful opinions about a marginalized group? What about a smart, witty comedian who turns out to be a serial ******* ual ******* aulter? Where do you draw the line between a creator and their creation? As someone with his feet in both worlds, actor Wil Wheaton weighed in on that question and offered a refreshingly reasonable perspective back in 2021.
"Question: I have more of an opinion question for you. When fans of things hear about misconduct happening on sets/behind-the-scenes are they allowed to still enjoy the thing? Or should it be boycotted completely? Example: I've been a major fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer since I was a teenager and it was currently airing. I really nerded out on it and when I lost my Dad at age 16. 'The Body' episode had me in such cathartic tears. Now we know about Joss Whedon. I haven't rewatched a single episode since his behavior came to light. As a fan, do I respectfully have to just box that away? Is it disrespectful of the actors that went through it to knowingly keep watching?"

"There's just nothing anywhere," Harriet Cowan says, standing at the highest point of her family farm in Belper, Derbyshire, and scanning across its 100 acres.
It's August, amid the fourth of the summer's heatwaves, and spread before us is a patchwork of ochres, khakis and dull browns. Every field is a rash of dusty stubble; every hedgerow is thirstily clinging on; every scrap of grass is gasping. As they watch from a dry-stone wall, even the sparrows look enervated. It has been a long, long summer.
"We finished harvesting in July, over a month ahead of schedule. Barley, winter wheat… There was nothing much to come up. But it's the same all round the country," Cowan says straightforwardly. (She says everything straightforwardly.) "It's scary. But I do think this is just a spell. It was really wet a couple of winters ago, and everyone said, 'Well, that's it.'" She shrugs. "I don't know. I think it'll pee it down for the rest of the summer now." With that, she turns on her heel and sets off towards a stile.
'We finished harvesting in July, over a month ahead of schedule. Barley, winter wheat… There was nothing much to come up' - Joe Hart for The Telegraph
Though she's just 25, Cowan has reason to be more relaxed than many in her position. Over the last few years, she has already achieved the farmer's ultimate goal: diversification without selling out. All she had to do was gaffer-tape a camera to the inside of her tractor cab, be entirely herself, post the clips on social media, and wait for her audience to find her.

Lincoln City have signed forward Ethan Wheatley on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
The 20-year-old academy product has made three appearances off the bench in the Premier League for the Red Devils, and another in the Carabao Cup.
After a loan spell at Walsall, Wheatley spent the first half of last season on loan at Northampton Town, where he scored three goals in 22 League One matches, before spending the rest of the campaign on loan at Bradford City.
"I played against Lincoln last season and didn't really enjoy it, so I'm glad to be part of the team now," Wheatley told the club website.
"I've had some loans over the past 18 months. I started in League Two, then last season League One so am looking forward to stepping up to the Championship."

MOSCOW, Aug 24 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Monday that measures were being taken to minimise the impact of Ukrainian strikes on Russia's grain exports as global wheat importers brace for tighter supplies amid attacks on Black Sea grain infrastructure.
Tit-for-tat attacks by Russia and Ukraine, both major grain exporters, on ports and vessels in recent weeks have shuttered grain terminals and forced shippers to delay or cancel loadings for dozens of cargoes during the peak export season.
"Measures have been identified and will be further developed, ensuring that all grain intended for export is shipped on time and in full," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
President Vladimir Putin acknowledged last week that Russia was experiencing problems with its agricultural exports, but said it would resolve them. The Kremlin chief also pledged that there would be no shortages on global markets.
Russia would have about 60 million tons of grain for export in the current season, Putin estimated. Russian grain exports are expected to pick up to 2.2 million metric tons in August from 1.95 million in July, the Sovecon consultancy said.

SANBORN — Last year, Niagara Wheatfield came close to ending a seven-year playoff drought.
All that separated it and a trip to Health Sciences/BASC/Charter in the first round of the Section VI Class A playoffs was a point-differential tiebreaker.
Unfortunately for Niagara Wheatfield, it lost the three-way tiebreaker and Kenmore West made the playoffs. Now, the team knows it has a chance to end the drought and get back to the postseason.
Last year, Niagara Wheatfield went 2-7 overall — 2-4 in league play — while being outscored 157-127. The team's season came to an end with a 28-21 loss to North Tonawanda in the first round of the Chuck Funke Bowl tournament.
"Well, expectations are we fell short again," Niagara Wheatfield head coach Erik O'Bryan said. "We lost a tiebreaker last year and want to go to the playoffs. It's been a long time in Niagara Wheatfield."
