Alderton serves as Principal Private Secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla. The official Ugandan statement said the two men spoke by phone before Kainerugaba reinstated the team.
ITV News reported that Alderton told Kainerugaba the King was "moved" by his consideration of the monarch's position. However, King Charles had "no problem" with Uganda competing and encouraged the country to continue.
That clarification resolved an unusual dispute. Kainerugaba announced Uganda's withdrawal on Sept. 9 because he did not want participation interpreted as opposition to King Charles. He also said Uganda would not join anything without the monarch's approval.

The King has stepped in to help reinstate Uganda's participation in Prince Harry's Invictus Games after the country withdrew from the tournament.
Charles, 77, was "moved" by General Kainerugaba's consideration of his opinion and encouraged the chief to proceed with preparations for the country's participation in the games, according to Sir Clive Alderton, the King and Queen's principal private secretary.
The General has now approved participation in the upcoming Games, which was founded by the Duke of Sussex in 2014 and will next be held in 2027 in Birmingham, following a telephone phone call with Sir Clive, it was revealed on Monday.
Chris Magezi, the spokesperson for Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), wrote on social media: "The decision follows a telephone conversation between General Kainerugaba and the Principal Private Secretary to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable Sir Clive Alderton K.C.V.O."

It seems as though King Charles III's letter about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's involvement in the monarchy has already done some damage — whether it was meant to or not.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba declared on X that Uganda, which is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, did not want its participation in the annual Invictus Games to be "construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere."
"We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty's approval," Kainerugaba, who is the son of the Ugandan president and head of the country's armed forces, added.
After it was revealed that Uganda had dropped out of the international sporting competition, which the Duke of Sussex, 41, founded in 2014, a source told People that the king's letter issued by Lord Chamberlain was to blame.
"They made it very clear that the reason they pulled out was a direct result of perceived guidance from the Lord Chamberlain," a source close to the Spare author said in the Thursday, September 10, report.

A traditional Ugandan ruler named as the world's youngest monarch has died aged 34, his prime minster announced.
Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV became king of Tooro in western Uganda at just three years old in 1995 after the death of his father.
The Tooro kingdom did not disclose the cause of King Oyo's death, but a Ugandan government minister was quoted in local media saying that he had been critically ill and was seeking treatment in the US.
Though Uganda is governed by an elected president and parliament, it has several traditional kingdoms which continue to have significant cultural influence despite not having political power.
Oyo, who Guinness World Records listed as the world's youngest reigning monarch, ruled over more than two million people. He was the 13th monarch of a kingdom that was founded in the early 19th Century.

The king died at around 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, Akiiki said, without revealing the cause of his death.

LONDON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - The outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in Uganda is over ‌but it is not under control in neighbouring Democratic ‌Republic of Congo, a World Health Organization official told a briefing on Wednesday.
The all-clear for Uganda follows a declaration on July 28 from the Ugandan government that it was free of the disease, which caused 20 cases and two deaths in the country.
The WHO monitored the ‌situation until this week ⁠to ensure that no chains of transmission had been missed.
But Dr Marie Roseline Belizaire, director of ⁠emergency preparedness for the WHO African region, told a WHO regional meeting that cases in Democratic Republic of Congo continued to rise despite some progress. The outbreak there is the second-deadliest in history, ‌and outpacing containment efforts.

David Owori, one of Uganda's best-known soccer players, has been killed in a "senseless act of violence," according to his club, SC Villa.
Owori, 27, was the captain for SC Villa, the Uganda Premier League record champion, and represented the Uganda national team.
SC Villa said that Owori was the victim of a "brutal ******* ault by unknown ******* ailants" near his home on Monday, Aug. 3.
"Owori was attacked near his home in Makindye on Monday evening before being rushed to Case Clinic in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he sadly passed away," the club said in a statement.
Per the BBC, witnesses said that a group of attackers hit Owori with paving stones before robbing him of his belongings and fleeing.

The team manager for the Ugandan Commonwealth Games team has told BBC Scotland News he has no idea why four boxers with the team have vanished.
Two men and two women who competed for Uganda at the Games failed to turn up for their scheduled flights home and have since turned off their mobile phones.
Media reports in Uganda suggested the four may be looking to seek asylum, but Uganda's chef de mission Godwin Kayangwe said he hoped the athletes would return home before their visas expire in October.
Police say inquiries are ongoing into a number of Commonwealth athletes who have failed to turn up for homeward flights, but it is understood little can be done until the existing visas expire.

The inclusive nature of the Commonwealth Games' integrated schedule is helping to change African attitudes towards disability, according to some of the continent's leading para-athletes.
Unlike the Paralympics there is no separate event for para-sports at the Games, meaning medals won by disabled and non-disabled competitors contribute equally to a nation's tally.
The process began in Manchester in 2002, helping to make it the first fully inclusive international multi-sport Games, with para events taking place during the same sessions as non-disabled ones.

The last patient being treated for Ebola in Uganda has been discharged from hospital, leaving the country with no active confirmed cases of the deadly disease.

A US citizen working for a humanitarian group in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement on Friday.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) on Sunday said he would not want to change the Constitution's rules against non-native born Americans running for president, even as his political base continues to grow nationally.
The 34-year-old democratic socialist was born in Uganda. During a Sunday interview, ABC News's Jonathan Karl noted that Mamdani will soon meet the Constitution's age requirement to run for president. But Karl noted Mamdani would still not be eligible to run given his birthplace.
When asked if the requirements should change, Mamdani laughed and said, "I think the Constitution looks good the way it is," during a Sunday appearance on ABC's "This Week."
Mamdani made waves this week as three House candidates he backed won elections over two incumbents and a third candidate backed by the party establishment. Two of the candidates backed by Mamdani were also democratic socialists.
The mayor's policies have focused on economic issues, though he is also a supporter of the Palestinian cause and a critic of Israel, as were the three candidates who won on Tuesday.

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda has claimed more than 200 lives in its first month and is the worst known outbreak at this stage, with up to 35,000 suspected potential contacts, Africa’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday.
With 894 confirmed cases so far, the current outbreak is three times worse than a previous outbreak in Uganda in 2000, which had 281 cases at the same point, said Dr. Wessam Mankoula, a medical epidemiologist at Africa CDC.
The latest number of cases is believed to be higher because the outbreak was confirmed on May 15, weeks after it was suspected to have begun. The number of cases has increased 38% since last week and is now in 32 health zones across eastern Congo, said Mankoula.
The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved vaccines or treatments and was not tested for in the early days. The more common Zaire virus, for which there is a vaccine, was responsible for most of Congo’s past 16 outbreaks of the disease.
So far 74 patients have recovered from the disease across eastern Congo and Uganda. Experimental treatments like monoclonal antibodies are being developed for Bundibugyo.

June 3 (Reuters) - The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that the world is "catching up" with the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo, where there ‌have been 344 confirmed cases of the disease and 60 confirmed deaths, although challenges remain.
"The outbreak ‌had a big head start, and we're still behind, but under the leadership of the government of DRC, we're catching up," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a press briefing.
The outbreak, linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, has spread to neighbouring Uganda where 15 cases have been confirmed, including one death, the agency said.
Access to testing has also improved, which is why hundreds of cases that were initially suspected as Ebola have now been ruled out, the WHO ‌said. The most common tests used for ⁠Ebola do not detect the Bundibugyo strain causing this outbreak, which had caused a backlog.

Former CDC director on Ebola outbreak: ‘I suspect this is going to become a very significant pandemic’

Former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield said Wednesday he suspects the spreading Ebola outbreak in Africa will spread across three new countries and become a “very significant pandemic.”
“I suspect this is going to become a very significant pandemic, probably going to leak into Tanzania, leak into southern Sudan, maybe leak into Rwanda,” Redfield said during an appearance on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”
“So, it’s going to be very disruptive,” he added.
A majority of the Ebola cases are in Congo and Uganda.
Local health officials in the two nations reported 536 suspected cases, 105 probable cases, 34 confirmed cases and around 134 suspected deaths from the outbreak, according to the CDC.
