A former special educational needs co-ordinator at a school who had a ******* ual relationship with a former pupil has been banned from teaching following a professional conduct hearing.
Joseph Marriott, who worked at Eckington School in Derbyshire, resigned in September 2024 following a disciplinary meeting, after the school was informed about the relationship with the ex-student.
A report, published following a Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA) panel hearing, said the pupil - named as person A - asked for Marriott's phone number on her last day at school, which he provided.
The panel found Marriott was "dishonest" during the disciplinary investigation meeting about when their relationship started.
According to the TRA, in July 2024 the school received an anonymous telephone call, alleging Person A was in a relationship with Marriott, and that it started while she was still at the school.

A teacher has been banned from the profession indefinitely for smacking a young boy on his bare bottom after he urinated in a school ball pit.
A tribunal panel found Tsvetelina Kaliszan, 44, who worked at Elm Tree Primary Academy in Wednesbury, intended to physically chastise the pupil.
The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) added she did not report her actions to the school on the day of the incident in May 2024.
Kaliszan claimed she "tapped" the pupil and his trousers had not been down at the time, but after hearing from witnesses, the panel found that she had struck his bottom, "specifically two smacks", and that on the balance of probability his bottom was bare.
Kaliszan, who started working at the academy as a class teacher in 2023, was supervising pupils in a soft play area alongside other members of staff in the afternoon, the TRA said.

Legendary coach Greg Jackson has seen it all.
For decades, Jackson has been one of the most recognizable and respected names in combat sports, making the high regard he holds for his pupil Gable Steveson all the more impressive.
"He's such a sweetheart, and good lord, is he a super athlete," Jackson recently told MMA Junkie. "He's super fast. I've locked up with a lot of people – and I'm not saying I'm a great fighter or anything. I lock up. I warm up with people, whatever. I used to do a lot more when I was younger. He's just so fast and so strong. It's just very rare that you lock up with somebody as fast and strong as he is. And he'll move around with me without hurting me at all, which is great for the old guy. Just feeling his athlete ability, his ability to change quickly from striking to takedowns and back again, it's just phenomenal. He's just a really special guy in a lot of ways. That's not just athletically. He's a sweetheart of a guy, too, and very respectful. He's an all-around good dude."
Jackson, who has long coached as JacksonWink in Albuquerque, N.M., was introduced to Steveson (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) by all-time MMA great Jon Jones. From the moment Jackson started working with him, he said it was evident Steveson was special. For Jackson, it's been about remaining calculated and a realist with Steveson – despite the pressure from outside forces about how fast he should or could move up the ladder.
"I'm always concerned," Jackson said. "I'm not a naysayer, but I'm always a guy that is very conservative. It drives everybody in every organization and all my fighters crazy. I'm much more conservative than I am, 'Let's go get them.' I like setting up parameters I know are going to win, etc., etc. So while I don't think it's a bad thing to be where he's at and ready to go, I'd always like more time. That doesn't mean I'm correct. Again, about this stuff, I can be very wrong. Do I think we are going to win this weekend? Absolutely. I think we are going to have a great time. But I'm always the guy who wants to go slower than everybody else does. ... To be honest, he has the ability. He's just incredible. I can't say enough good things about him. I'm always the voice you don't want to hear in the back going, 'Well, maybe we should slow down a little bit.'"

Blake Bowen suddenly found himself thrust into a spotlight in his senior season at JSerra Catholic High School and he's made the most of it.
Originally a two-sport athlete playing both baseball and football at Riverside King High School, Bowen transferred to JSerra in 2023 and made baseball his focus, but the athleticism that made him stand out on the gridiron transferred just as well to the diamond.
"He's the best athlete I've ever coached," JSerra head coach Brett Kay said of Bowen. "You could see what he's capable of, and the things that he does are pretty special on the field and he's got a chance to be a high draft pick."
Kay knows a thing or two about coaching high level athletes, with players like Royce Lewis and Austin Hedges having been past pupils of his, but just one look at Bowen explains Kay's strong stance.
Bowen is 6'3 and 225 pounds with strength and speed in spades that made him one of the top power hitters in California high school baseball.

Four school children chosen to be ball boys and boy girls at Wimbledon say working at the tournament has been a "once in a lifetime experience".
Adam, Oscar, Caitlin and Oliver, from The Beacon School in Banstead, have been working on courts across the tournament, including being a part of Arthur Fery's first match on his route to the semi-finals.
The pupils, aged 14 and 15, now all say they want to go on to work on one of the show courts and soak in the atmosphere of some the biggest tennis matches this summer.
Speaking about Fery's first match, Adam, 14, said: "It was really nice to do - he was really nice, and the atmosphere was intense."
Oscar, 14, who also worked the match, added: "My mum and my uncle were both ball crew too and it inspired me to try out.

Childhood tennis coaches of Britain's Arthur Fery have told the BBC they are "super proud" of their former pupil as he prepares for his first Wimbledon quarter-final against Italy's Flavio Cobolli.
Fery, 23, lived in Wimbledon as a child and has come "full circle" by playing in the Championships, his former Westside Tennis Club coach Tinus Nortje said.
"A local player who grew up here. For him to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon is just unbelievable."
Fery, ranked 114th in the world, beat Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov in five sets in the last 16 on Monday after entering the tournament on a wild card and is believed to be the first British wild card to reach the quarter-finals.
Nortje said: "From an early age I detected a very calm determination, which you don't find a lot in players... always up for a challenge, works hard, great discipline. A lovely guy to be on court with."

Heartbroken pupils and parents were left in tears as they were told their 700-year-old school will close for good.
The devastating news about Ruthin School in Denbighshire was delivered the day before children broke up for summer.
A number of independent schools - sometimes called private schools - have been struggling, with St Gerard's in Gwynedd also closing and owners of both citing financial pressures.
A spokesperson for Ruthin School, one of Wales' oldest, said it had "not been possible to establish a financially viable way forward", and it would enter administration.
The body representing independent schools believes new VAT rules for fees have added to a "perfect storm" for the sector.
