Newcastle United are lining up a club-record bid for Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha as the club seek a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes.
Guimaraes is closing in on a £75m transfer to ****** nal after the Newcastle captain requested to leave St James' Park for North London.
Newcastle are now seeking a replacement for the 28-year-old, with Nmecha top of their list. The Germany international shone despite his nation's early exit at the 2026 World Cup and is open to a transfer to the Premier League.
According to L'Equipe, Newcastle have started talks with Borussia Dortmund to strike a deal, though the German side value Nmecha at €100m (£85.7m). That fee would represent a club-record deal for the Magpies, eclipsing the £69m paid to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last summer.

While it has been a surprisingly slow start on the transfer front to date, Borussia Dortmund's summer spending is apparently not finished.
In a media briefing this morning, Tuesday 14 July, BVB sporting director Lars Ricken outlined the Westphalian club's rough plans.

In their first match of the knockout stage against Paraguay, the German national team found themselves 0-1 down in the 42nd minute. Shortly before half-time, Felix Nmecha, who had started the match, missed a golden opportunity to equalise when he found himself unmarked. His deflected shot went wide of the left-hand post. It was the Borussia Dortmund player's last involvement in the match; he was substituted after the break.
Although Germany managed to equalise in the 54th minute, no further goals were scored in normal time, so the match went into extra time. In the 102nd minute, Germany took what appeared to be a 2-1 lead, but the referees ruled that Waldemar Anton had fouled the goalkeeper beforehand, so the goal was disallowed. The Borussia player had come on as a substitute in the 79th minute. Paraguay shocked four-time world champions Germany by knocking them out of the last 32 through a penalty shootout. The South Americans had less of the ball but managed to make their chances count and continuously disturbed Julian Nagelsmann’s team. Then they stepped up when it mattered during the penalty shootouts to book their place in the last 16, where they will face either France or Sweden.
Germany opted to play Deniz Undav instead of Jamal Musiala for this game. However, the attacking front failed to combine and create clear-cut chances.
Paraguay started brightly as they won a corner kick in the second minute, but Junior Alonso’s attempt was saved by Manuel Neuer.
In the first half, Germany enjoyed much of the possession but failed to make it count. And in the 42nd minute, it was Julio Enciso who gave Paraguay the lead through a header as he found himself unmarked in the box.
At half-time, Nagelsmann chose to bring on Leon Goretzka for Felix Nmecha, who had impressed in previous games but failed to find his feet in this one.

Mats Hummels was always regarded as a cerebral player and in his early foray into punditry, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund center-back detailed what he thought would help Germany get past Paraguay.

Felix Nmecha is currently a better fit alongside him. Therefore, Pavlović would have to drop out of the starting eleven.
“I would recommend Waldemar Anton at right-back, and Kimmich in midfield. Playing Kimmich at right-back isn’t doing him any favors. His strengths and leadership qualities are needed in midfield.”

A total of 1 defensive contribution, only 6 duels won of 16 contested, dispossessed 15 times and an error leading to a goal. This was horrendous from the pair of Pavlović and Nmecha. The defiant defense of this duo from Nagelsmann is concerning.
The choice of substitution for Nmecha was another shocker. Leon Goretzka was a good option to bolster Germany and handle the Ecuadorian pressure, but Naglesmann's choice of Angelo Stiller sweetened the deal for the opposition. Against teams that press as tenaciously as Ecuador did, the midfield needs a major upgrade should Die Mannschaft wish to proceed further in the knockouts.

Recent rumors linking Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha appear to be wide of the mark. The German record champions are reportedly happy with the current group and Nmecha would be too expensive anyway, according to a report from Sport1 journalist Stefan ****** berger, as captured by iMiaSanMia:
Bayern believe they’re well-equipped in the central midfield area. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović are still planned as the starting double pivot next season. Tom Bischof will be used more often as a backup in the position. In addition, Noël Aséko has ‘influential supporters’ within the club who want him to be a squad player and get appearances as another midfield backup. Bayern want to continue with the strategy of having a small squad, which allows young players to get their chance and prove themselves. The recent links to Felix Nmecha are questionable. The German international is not for sale unless a nine-figure offer were to come in, which is beyond Bayern’s reach. In addition, BVB’s management would prefer to sell abroad [StefanKumberger, SPORT1]
This is good — Bayern probably should not be trying to add positions to spend this summer when it is already investing significant resources in transfers in attack and defense. Moreover, the attacker, Ismael Saibari, is slated to play centrally when Bayern also has a short-term need for reinforcements at wing. And the defender, left-back Nathaniel Brown, will provide cover and competition for Alphonso Davies at left-back while the Bavarians mull their next big center-back signing, which is probably also due next summer at the latest.
Nmecha is having himself a great World Cup and that is going to raise his stock. If there is not a huge need right now, why not see how things shake out with the younger players? Bischof’s future is extremely bright and Aséko might just serve the club better by being the next showcase of academy-to-first team success than by finding a move elsewhere. There is too little clarity right now on what type of midfielder Bayern would need to add to this mix, so if a player already on the roster can do the job — why not? Then hit the market, if necessary, once the need crystallizes.

Germany will be sticking to its guns and treating tomorrow’s World Cup group stage match against Ecuador as if everything was on the line — even though, thanks to a new FIFA tiebreaks rule at this tournament, nothing is.
Win, lose, or draw, the Germans have clinched Group E after a gritty 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast last weekend. But rather than use the opportunity to turn the spotlight on some of the lesser-used players on the roster — including those who have yet to have a major tournament debut in national team colors — head coach Julian Nagelsmann has decided to remain committed to the process. And that means preparing in a consistent manner throughout the tournament.
“That’s the most legitimate question of all, the discussion about whether or not to make changes,” Nagelsmann explained in match preview comments captured via iMiaSanMia. “We in the coaching staff also discussed and considered this extensively.
“Looking at the weeks leading up to the World Cup, one of the key topics was that the team needed time to gel and that we hadn’t played enough games together. Now we’ve played two matches, and we’re already debating how many changes to make. I don’t see the point in that. With Kai [Havertz], Jamal [Musiala], and Felix [Nmecha], we had players who were away from the national team for up to a year. We’ve now secured two wins, which is important for the standings.

This is the summer transfer window when Manchester United hope to reshape their engine room.

Germany swept aside tiny Curacao at the World Cup on Sunday, thrashing the debutants 7-1 in Houston while the Iran team touched down in the United States.
Curacao, the smallest nation by population ever to qualify for the tournament, came face-to-face with the four-time winners and despite Livano Comenencia scoring an early equalizer to give his nation a historic first World Cup goal, they soon found the going tough.
Felix Nmecha opened the scoring for the Germans and despite the equalizer, they soon overran the blue shirts of Curacao, with Kai Havertz grabbing a double.
Despite their proud record in the competition, Germany have struggled in recent tournaments and this was the first time they had won their first opening match at a World Cup since they lifted the trophy in 2014.
"It took us a few minutes to get back into the game after they equalized. Curacao can play football too, as we saw, and I'm curious to see how they'll fare in the group going forward," said Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Despite being pegged back after Felix Nmecha’s early opener, Julian Nagelsmann’s side quickly regained control and eventually overwhelmed their opponents. Goals from Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz (2), Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav completed a dominant display as Germany flexed their attacking quality.
As expected, Germany started on the front foot, monopolising possession and pinning Curaçao deep inside their own half. Their early pressure paid off after just six minutes when Nmecha exchanged a neat one-two with Florian Wirtz on the edge of the box before curling a superb effort beyond the unsighted Eloy Room to give Die Nationalelf a deserved lead.
After 15 minutes of one-way traffic, however, Curaçao began to grow into the contest. With Germany showing signs of complacency, **** Advocaat’s side started to threaten on the counter-attack and stunned their illustrious opponents with a historic equaliser in the 21st minute.
An attempted through ball was only partially cleared by Schlotterbeck, allowing Jurgen Locadia to keep the move alive before the ball broke kindly for Livano Comenencia. The midfielder unleashed a strike from the edge of the area that took a deflection off Joshua Kimmich and wrong-footed Manuel Neuer on its way into the net, handing Curaçao their first-ever World Cup goal and levelling the scores at 1-1.
The subsequent hydration break arrived at an unfortunate moment for the Blue Wave, disrupting their momentum and allowing Germany to regroup. Nagelsmann’s men soon reasserted their authority and eventually restored their lead in the 38th minute.
