MILTON - It was a long offseason. Luke Richardson was starved for the end zone.
The senior receiver pulled in three touchdown grabs and amassed over 150 receiving yards as the Marshfield High football team stamped a 42-25 road victory over Milton on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Richardson, who also doubles as a basketball standout, scored on catch-and-runs spanning 54, 44 and 52 yards. He was named a Patriot League All-Star in both sports as a junior last year.
"He's shifty," said senior quarterback Nate Rollinson, who dished out five touchdown passes. "He's a great route artist. I just know I've got to get him the ball and he'll make plays."
This marks just the second time in coach Chris Arouca's nine-year tenure that Marshfield sealed a Week 1 victory.

LOYAL — The Loyal School District announced Wednesday, Sept. 2 that due to a self-reported eligibility issue, the Loyal/Greenwood co-op football team will forfeit its 41-7 win over Neillsville/Granton from this past Friday and receive a one-year probation period.
The Marshfield-area school districts said they became aware of the issue following Friday's game, promptly addressed it and self-reported the matter to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic ****** ociation.
The WIAA then reviewed the situation and imposed the forfeiture and probation.
The districts did not disclose the nature of the eligibility issue or identify the player involved and described the mishap as "an honest mistake" and said they take responsibility for it.

The Mount Vernon Mountaineers hosted Forsythe, McDonald County and Strattford high schools to kick off the 2026 football season with exhibition play on Friday night.
Each school got a chance to play against one another, taking turns on both offense and defense. While there were highlights on both sides of the ball for all schools, hosting Head Coach Tom ****** feels like a jamboree is a great way to start the season.
"It's real important to see different schemes, different abilities, different types and styles of coaching and playing," he said. "It helps us getting ready for the long season."
Cox's Mountaineers showed promise with several offensive touchdowns and multiple forced turnovers. They start their 2026 season with a matchup against a Nevada Tigers team that finished the 2025 season 8-4.
McDonald County High School starred in the jamboree as well, using its quarterbacks to rush for long touchdowns on multiple occasions. The Mustangs open up their 2026 schedule with a visit to Marshfield.

Fall practice started this week throughout Oregon for high school students and the first contests come next week.
Teams are preparing for the season in volleyball, football, soccer and cross country.
The first day for contests is Thursday, Aug. 27, except for football, which can have jamborees that day, but no full games until Aug. 28.
Marshfield will host its traditional volleyball jamboree, which includes several other area teams, on Aug. 27 and then heads to Cascade Christian for a tournament on Aug. 29.
North Bend and Coquille both are in Marshfield's jamboree and then face each other on Aug. 29 in North Bend. Coquille then hosts both Marshfield and Creswell on Sept. 3, with each team playing the other two.

Girls and golf were the themes of the day Tuesday afternoon at Marshfield Country Club.
The Women’s South Shore Golf League celebrated 100 years in existence, and part of the celebration was an event called “Girls on Course.” It was a free, full-day golf experience for South Shore girls ages 5-17 at Marshfield Country Club.
The organization aimed to welcome 100 girls and ended up with 130 due to the level of interest. The participating girls learned golf skills from New England PGA professionals and also enjoyed food, face painting, socializing and an ice cream truck.
The Women’s South Shore Golf League said this centennial event is a powerful opportunity to recognize the legacy of Massachusetts women in the game, spotlight a community that sustains it and ignite a passion for golf in the next generation.
“A group of women got together and started to create this organization to play and compete and practice, and we’re hoping that’s what we can do with the kids here,” James Antonelli, general manager of Marshfield Country Club, said.

A-B resets WIAA tourney hit record: Almond-Bancroft sets D5 hit record en route to first state championship

North Bend’s Raleigh Collier was a state champion and several other athletes from the South Coast placed in the Middle School Meet of Champions, the unofficial state championships for middle school track and field in Oregon.
Collier, an eighth-grader in North Bend, won the 800 meters with a new best of 2 minutes and 6.94 seconds, edging out Gus VandenHeuvel of Whisper Running Club of Vancouver, Wash.
Collier also was seventh in the 1,500 with another new best, 4:22.08. James Fullerton of Grant Cluster in Portland won the race in 4:12.69, nearly six seconds faster than the runner-up.
Tyler Camp of Azalea in Brookings also was a champion, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 14.05, also a new best. Camp was third in the 200 hurdles in 26.64. North Bend’s Jacob Bates was 11th (29.17).
Marshfield’s Gavin Simpson was fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.90 seconds after running a new best 11.70 in the preliminaries. Simpson also was sixth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Gavin Simpson of Marshfield won three individual events and was part of a winning relay at the Far West League middle school track meet.
Simpson won the 100 (11.97 seconds) and 200 (24.23) and also took the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. He also was part of Marshfield’s winning 4x100 relay (47.98).
North Bend’s Raleigh Collier won both the 800 (2:11.06) and 1,500 (4:29.69).
Tyler Camp of Azalea in Brookings won the 100 hurdles (14.53) and 200 hurdles (26.49).
Other winners were Reedsport’s Julien Nazareno in the 400 (55.69), North Bend’s Michael Lu in the shot put (38-5), Winston’s Eli Knebel in the discus (165-7), Myrtle Point’s David Huff in the aero javelin (160-1), North Bend’s Blake Horton in the pole vault (10-3) and Quintin Coordes of Waldport in the long jump (19-6 ¾).
