Investments in secondaries drove returns at private foundations in 2025, according to new research by Commonfund. This may, however, be something of a mirage.
Investments in the PE secondary market, whether by acquiring secondhand fund stakes or backing managers that do, generated an average gain of 20.6% at the private foundations observed in the report, published last week by the $31.5 billion investment manager and the Council on Foundations, a nonprofit membership ***** ociation. This was the highest return of any alternative ***** et class among the 17 respondents that reported secondaries returns.
This doesn't mean that mature PE funds are once again exiting companies and throwing off cash.
Mark Hoeing, president and CEO of CF Private Equity, Commonfund's private equity arm, attributed the outperformance to secondary-market buyers' practice of purchasing ***** ets at a discount and marking them to par after purchase.
This practice has been employed against a backdrop of record secondary transaction volumes, multiplying the impact of the mark-ups in performance. Total secondary deal volume surpassed $120 billion in the first six months of 2026, a 20% jump over H1 2025, the previous record.

Manchester City begin a new era this weekend as Enzo Maresca takes charge of his first Premier League game of the 2026/27 season at home to Bournemouth.
City begin their first season since 2016/17 without Pep Guardiola at the helm, though there is plenty of faith in Maresca, who himself previously served under the Spaniard as an ***** istant manager.
The Italian returns in the top job after an underwhelming spell at Chelsea, and he is tasked with returning City to the summit of the Premier League.
He will have to do it the hard way though, with City having lost the likes of Rodri and Bernardo Silva over the summer. The 3-0 loss to ***** nal in the Community Shield comes too soon to cause real worry, but City will have to make a good start to the season to allay fears of wider troubles across the team.
As for Bournemouth, they begin a new era of their own under Marco Rose, with the German hoping to build on the foundations laid by Andoni Iraola as he leads the Cherries in their first ever season in Europe.

Our ******* ysts just identified a stock with the potential to be the next Nvidia. Tell us how you invest and we'll show you why it's our #1 pick. Tap here.
Revenue outperformance was primarily driven by strong execution in the Drone segment, which offset softer results in Avionics and Training.
The RQ-35 drone achieved Blue UAS certification, a critical milestone that validates the platform's security and opens U.S. defense procurement channels.
Management is actively pivoting the company's focus toward unmanned systems, citing limited synergies between the capital-intensive Training segment and core drone operations.
Development costs for the JC250 and JX250 platforms are running low double-digits below expectations due to shared foundations and efficient R&D execution.

Interested in Keller Group plc? Here are five stocks we like better.
Keller delivered record first-half 2026 results, with constant-currency revenue up 11%, underlying operating profit up 17.1% and margins improving to 7.3%. Management remains confident of meeting its upgraded full-year expectations and achieving a fourth consecutive record year.
North America was the main growth engine, with revenue up 16.7% and operating profit up 17.7%, driven by data-center foundations and major infrastructure projects including the I-40 highway remediation. Data centers rose to 9% of group revenue, while weaker multifamily residential activity remained a headwind.
Cash generation supported a 57% increase in the interim dividend and ongoing share buybacks, while management expects to end the year with approximately £30 million of net cash. EMEA profit rose despite lower revenue, whereas APAC revenue grew strongly but profit was broadly flat due to pricing and weather pressures.
Keller Group (LON:KLR) reported record first-half results for 2026, with revenue and underlying operating profit rising as strong demand for data centers and infrastructure work in North America offset weaker conditions in some residential and European markets.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Foundations funded and co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos have launched an initiative committing $200 million to revive 100 of Earth's most threatened species, including endangered lemurs, salamanders, pangolins, pigs and echidnas.
DiCaprio's Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund are leading the Phoenix Species Project, the groups announced Tuesday. They call it the largest single fund in history dedicated exclusively to recovering critically endangered species.
DiCaprio has for years been developing the idea of a major concerted effort to help species whose habitats and future existence are threatened by climate change.
In 2021, he and Re:wild co-founder Wes Sechrest, a biologist who serves as the organization's CEO, met with the Amazon-founding mega billionaire Bezos and his wife, former TV news reporter and host Lauren Sánchez Bezos. He serves as chair and she as vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund.
The meeting led to a series of conversations with local governments, environmental groups and Indigenous people on how best to reverse the decline of their most vulnerable species. Those conversations eventually led to the Phoenix Species Project.

At the outset of training camp, Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur outlined a clear expectation.
Spring practices had been used to "build the foundations," learning what his players are capable of. This, he explained, was different.
"At this point, we as coaches have to make a decision," LaFleur said. "No, this is what he can do. We need to put him in these spots."
From there, it's on the players to execute. These practice reps are no longer experimental; they're foundational.
With that in mind, here's what we have learned from the first week of Cardinals training camp. They have conducted five full practices and two jog-throughs, including four 11-on-11 sessions open to reporters.

House Speaker Mike Johnson sounded the alarm over students viewing America through the "wrong lenses" at an event hosted by legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) celebrating the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding.
"What ADF does every day on the front lines is defend the very foundations of the greatest nation in the history of the world, so that it can continue. We have a great challenge right now because, sadly, the generations coming behind us do not seem to fully appreciate and understand this," Johnson, R-La., told attendees as a keynote speaker at ADF's summit in San Diego on July 9.
The ADF Summit 2026 brought together leaders from law, public policy, media, business, education and Christian organizations. ADF stated that the event celebrated the historic 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by exploring the role of the founders and "why our founders held certain truths to be self-evident and what we must do to reclaim the spirit of 1776 today."
America 250 Attendees Fire Back At Critics Of Trump's July 4 Speech: 'What We Needed To Hear'
"ADF was deeply honored to welcome Speaker Johnson as a keynote speaker at our annual Summit," said Kristen Waggoner, ADF's president, CEO and chief counsel.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Billionaire Warren Buffett said Wednesday that his decision to cut the Gates Foundation out of his charitable giving is more about believing his three kids are ready to handle giving away his entire fortune than it is about Bill Gates ' ties to convicted **** offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Buffett told CNBC that Gates' **** ociation with Epstein was "distasteful," but the 95-year-old investor suggested that Gates' actions weren't much different from mistakes he himself had made over the years in hiring the wrong person or in choosing friends.
"No one bats a thousand in the business of choosing people," Buffett said on CNBC.
Buffett said he "read a great deal since Jan. 1 in terms of what happened with Bill and Epstein. And I have read his remarks to Congress given under oath, and I read the cross-examination." He noted that Gates eventually ended his relationship with Epstein.
Buffett said Gates wasn't surprised by the decision Buffett announced Tuesday to eventually donate all the rest of his $140 billion of Berkshire Hathaway stock to foundations **** ociated with his family and his three children, Howard, Susie and Peter. Gates flew to Omaha a few weeks ago and spent several hours talking with Buffett. The two hadn't spoken much since before additional details about Gates and Epstein started to come out when the federal government began releasing files from the Epstein investigation.

Buffett committed to donating his entire remaining $140 billion Berkshire stake to four family foundations by 2034, more than doubling his lifetime giving.

Preformed Line Products Company (NASDAQ:PLPC) was among Jim Cramer's stock calls on Mad Money, as he advised investors to stick with the largest tech companies in the market. Cramer was bullish on the stock during the episode, as he stated:
After decades where software was in charge, now it's all about setting up massive buildings, filling them with tech, and even building new power plants to supply them with electricity. That's how something like a Caterpillar's become a big AI winner, and it's why Preformed Line Products keeps winning. In its latest quarter, the company delivered a monster earnings beat… Look, the electric grid hasn't grown much in this country in the last couple of decades, but now there's a colossal amount of spending to make the grid much faster and more powerful… I think PLPC is a great derivative play on the market's biggest theme. I think you're getting a nice entry point here given the recent pullback. Sure, it's doubled over the last year, but I don't think it's crazy anymore to buy a stock like Preformed at 35 times earnings in this data center-obsessed market.
So here's the bottom line… Preformed Line Products Company is a small but critical part of the AI build-out. If you believe in this story and you believe the company can earn nearly $13 per share in 2028, which is what the **** ysts are projecting, then you've got my blessing to put a position on right here. Now, look, ideally, the stock would pull back a little bit more… Because I don't see the data center build-out slowing down anytime soon. But the stock has already pulled back. I say you're getting it at a much better level than I thought you'd get anytime soon.

Club football is demanding the spotlight on a day of busy offices, pre-seasons underway, and boardrooms burning up.
The ball starts rolling. Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona officially begin their pre-seasons today. With all eyes on the new 2026/27 campaign, the three La Liga giants are starting medical check-ups and the first training workloads ahead of a demanding season.
Joan Laporta has made a big splash in the market. When asked about Atlético de Madrid's interest in Julián Álvarez, the Barcelona president warned: "We're not going to dance to anyone else's tune, we set the rhythm." He also officially confirmed the signing of Karim Adeyemi and Raphinha's stay, while keeping some uncertainty over Ferran Torres.
Paolo Maldini is taking on a historic mission. One of the living legends of defensive football has been named the new technical director of the Italian Federation (FIGC). His main objective is to rebuild the foundations of the Azzurra and return the team to the absolute elite after the heavy blow of missing their third consecutive World Cup.
A spectacular twist in the Premier League. Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, the undisputed breakout star of the World Cup, is one step away from becoming a new player for Unai Emery's Aston Villa. The Birmingham club have managed to **** the signing from Newcastle when negotiations had seemed all but done.

For all of the attention Erling Haaland gets for his goals, one of the most underrated parts of his game is how consistently he wins individual duels. Whether it is battling center-backs in the air, shielding the ball with his back to goal, or simply overpowering defenders in a foot race, Haaland gives his team a physical advantage that few strikers in world football can match.
At 6-foot-4 with elite strength and remarkable acceleration, Haaland is uniquely built to dominate defenders in multiple ways. He is not just a target man who thrives on crosses. He wins shoulder-to-shoulder battles, fights through contact inside the penalty area, and frequently turns seemingly lost ***** into scoring opportunities by refusing to give up on a play. His combination of size, balance, and explosiveness often forces defenders into mistakes because they know they have almost no margin for error.
For Manchester City in 2025/26, Haaland won 126 ground duels and another 87 in the air. His presence can make a difference and it is being felt for Norway at the World Cup.
What makes Haaland especially dangerous is that he pairs those physical gifts with excellent timing and movement. He understands when to attack ***** e, when to hold up play, and when to challenge for aerial ***** . Even when he does not score, his ability to win duels creates second-ball opportunities for teammates and helps his side maintain possession in advanced areas.
As defenders continue to become faster and more athletic, winning individual battles remains one of the most valuable traits a striker can possess. Haaland has turned that skill into one of the foundations of his success. Goals will always define his career, but the relentless way he competes and wins duels is a major reason why he continues to rank among the most feared forwards in the game.

Once again, it’s time to pass judgement prematurely. After all, I would have my basketball writer card revoked were I to not evaluate before the dust has fully settled: that’s why they pay me the modestly-sized bucks, I’m told. So, without further ado, the Winners and Losers of week one of 2026 NBA free agency.
Philadelphia 76ers It must feel strange for Sixers fans to be on the right side of one of these incredibly lopsided, head-scratching transactions. But here we are: Philadelphia may end up as the biggest winners of the week after somehow (!) landing 2026 MVP candidate, 2024 NBA finals MVP and bona fide second-team All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown in exchange for just two first-round picks, two second-rounders and Paul George – whose contract is widely regarded as one of the league’s worst. The 36-year-old, injury-prone former superstar is still owed roughly $110m over the next two seasons. At the time of writing, the Sixers remain in the LeBron James sweepstakes, but even if they strike out, they’re in terrific shape. A George-for-Brown swap gives them far more insurance against the inevitable Joel Embiid absences during the regular season, while adding a battle-tested champion to help shepherd Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe through the postseason and show them what it takes to reach the mountaintop. Additionally, after being unceremoniously dumped on a division rival for the basketball equivalent of a bag of chips, Brown will arrive about as motivated as possible heading into the 2026-27 campaign. Hats off to the Sixers’ brass for pulling off what looks like the biggest heist since Nico Harrison since Nico Harrison was employed.
Los Angeles Clippers Self-awareness is a virtue. The Clippers were going nowhere in a hurry, and as heartening as last season’s late push was, the Kawhi Leonard era had, by any reasonable measure, been an abject failure. The reckoning actually began before the offseason. At the trade deadline, the Clippers cut bait on James Harden, landing the much younger Darius Garland while adding draft capital. They also dealt longtime center Ivica Zubac for a package that ultimately yielded fifth overall pick Keaton Wagler. The housecleaning continued this summer when they sent Leonard back to his old home in Toronto, receiving a respectable haul of picks along with two intriguing younger pieces in Brandon Ingram and Gradey ****** . They even poached three-point sniper Rui Hachimura from the neighboring rival Lakers. In all likelihood, the Clippers won’t be very good next season. But now, what was once an empty cupboard of future ****** ets has been restocked, the foundations of a genuine rebuild are finally in place, and, a year after watching former Clipper-turned-trade-chip Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy, the franchise can at last start moving forward. That is, until tree-planting-gate is fully adjudicated.

While Real Madrid's dressing room politics loomed large last season, the fact of the matter remains that Los Blancos have serious quality in their squad.
The performances of players including Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham at the FIFA World Cup is testament to the same as all three stars have stood out for their respective national teams.
What remains a big challenge for Jose Mourinho, thus, is to ensure that the same versions of the three players perform in tandem for the club.
The biggest challenge on that front is Bellingham who has looked like a fish out of water after Carlo Ancelotti's departure.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano (h/t Madrid Xtra) in a recent report, the new Real Madrid coach is a big fan of Bellingham, and the respect goes two ways as the player also holds the coach in high esteem. The foundations for a healthy relationship, thus, are laid.

I've seen rumblings of frustration on social media recently regarding Sunderland's lack of incomings so far in this transfer window, but is it justified?
To put it bluntly, no, in my opinion. The lads are due back in for pre – season training on Wednesday, with seven weeks and a full pre – season schedule between now and the start of the Premier League season. Last season aside, Sunderland under Kyril Louis-Dreyfus have not been fast starters in the transfer window, preferring to wait for the right opportunities and possibly even surveying the early business done by other clubs.
Sunderland aren't in danger of being left behind, and we needn't panic because we haven't signed any players by the early days of July. Any potential free agent signings have only been out of contract for a matter of days, players are still on holiday, and most vitally, a lot of players are still in action at the World Cup, with many focusing on their national sides before entertaining any thoughts of transfers.
If Sunderland are still yet to sign someone by the eve of the new season, by all means be discontented, but that won't happen. We will make signings, we will miss out on players, others will leave, and most importantly, Florent Ghisolfi will have Sunderland in a position to compete in every competition by the time the transfer window closes. The ownership and recruitment team have done enough to earn that trust, I'm sure we can all agree.
Despite being quick out the blocks last year, this summer is very much about quality over quantity. We do need to bolster the squad, but I very much doubt our incomings will be in double figures. In my opinion, we need another 6 / 7 at most, with 2 – 4 improving the starting line – up, and the rest providing quality back-up and rotation for European competition. The foundations built last year are strong, and as we've seen with Granit Xhaka, Sunderland won't be rolling over to interest in their stars.

It came as no great surprise that Nathan Ake and John Stones departed Manchester City this summer. Ake has completed a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce. John Stones’ contract wasn’t renewed and he has departed the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. While their departures were expected, they do leave a void in terms of leadership and experience in Manchester City’s defence. Ruben Dias has also been linked with a summer move away from Manchester City. However, with Ake and Stones both gone, City simply cannot afford to lose their defensive leader.
Nathan Ake and John Stones were the only bit-part players for Manchester City last season. Ake was ever reliable for his team, although he was used as a squad player during the 2025-26 season by Pep Guardiola. Injuries wrecked the 2025-26 campaign for John Stones, which led to him being released. While the pair were predominantly on the periphery of the City squad last season, their experience and leadership were important to Pep Guardiola’s new-look side.
Now that Stones and Ake are both gone, Ruben Dias with his leadership, presence, and experience will play a huge role in Enzo Maresca’s squad. Yes, Dias will face competition for a place in the City starting eleven. Josko Gvardiol, Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guehi, and Vitor Reis will all be eager to start. However, Ruben Dias has the intangibles that Manchester City need. When fully fit, Dias remains an elite centre-back. He is also Manchester City’s most experienced defender and his leadership will be huge for his team next season.
Also, with Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Ake having already left Manchester City, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders will not want to create a leadership void if Ruben Dias did depart. That cannot happen as it may be a blow that will take City too much time to overcome.
Real Madrid were credited with an interest in signing Ruben Dias from Manchester City this summer. However, it now seems like Manchester City’s intention is to keep their defensive leader. Graeme Bailey has reported for TeamTalk that City have rejected enquiries from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea for Ruben Dias. Manchester City’s stance is that the Portuguese international is not for sale. Furthermore, Bailey reports that Dias is viewed as one of the foundations of Enzo Maresca’s squad and no offers for him will be entertained.

The rumors are now confirmed. After announcing that Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins would be leaving the factory Yamaha MotoGP team at the end of the year, Yamaha have now signed Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura to take their places. Both moves could be seen as surprises, considering Yamaha's struggles recently, but we suspect lots of zeros were added to the contract to lure Jorge Martin (not to mention Martin secured his Aprilia exit after his antics last year trying to leave the team) and Ogura, though the latter might also be excited to ride for a **** anese manufacturer and provide input as part of the factory team.
The full press release is below.
Begin press release:
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that Jorge Martín and Ai Ogura have signed with the Yamaha Factory MotoGP Team for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons.
As MotoGP prepares to enter a new technical era in 2027, Yamaha continues to shape the foundations of its long-term project by combining proven championship-winning experience with one of the sport's brightest emerging talents.

Tottenham’s summer is beginning to reveal a clear pattern. Rather than chasing headlines for their own sake, the club appears to be laying foundations for a squad that reflects Roberto De Zerbi’s footballing ideals. According to reporting from The Athletic, contract renewals, targeted recruitment and potential high profile departures are all forming part of a carefully planned rebuild.
With the goalkeeper situation becoming clearer and ambitious midfield targets remaining firmly in focus, Spurs supporters have plenty to monitor as preparations continue for the new campaign.
One of Tottenham’s most significant pieces of business this week has come away from the transfer market.
Antonin Kinsky has agreed a new five year contract, with the club also holding the option to extend it by a further 12 months. It represents a significant vote of confidence after the young goalkeeper impressed during Guglielmo Vicario’s absence following hernia surgery.
Kinsky stepped into one of the Premier League’s most demanding positions and handled it with maturity, producing several decisive saves across Tottenham’s final seven league fixtures as the club secured survival on the final day.

Array Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARRY) is one of the best electrical equipment stocks to buy according to **** ysts.
On June 16, Array Technologies launched DuraTrack D2S, a dual-row solar tracker aimed first at international markets where that format is often preferred. The launch is relevant to the electrical equipment theme because trackers, foundations, controls, and software directly affect utility-scale solar project output, construction cost, and reliability.
DuraTrack D2S extends the company's DuraTrack architecture into a format designed for faster installation, better terrain tolerance, more flexible site design, and lower maintenance needs. The system includes Wind XP passive wind-stow technology, which Array said can provide an energy-yield benefit of up to 4%, along with SmarTrack software and OmniTrack terrain-following capability. Construction of the first commercial project using DuraTrack D2S began in Spain in the first quarter of 2026, supporting Array's effort to expand its tracker platform across EMEA and other international solar markets.

Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (NYSEMKT:VDC) and State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEMKT:XLP) offer defensive exposure, but VDC provides broader diversification, while XLP focuses on a narrower group of S&P 500 giants.
These ETFs target the consumer staples sector, which contains companies that produce essential goods like food, beverages, and household items. Because these products remain in demand regardless of economic cycles, these funds often appeal to investors seeking stability and consistent income during periods of market turbulence. Both funds provide exposure to "nondiscretionary" spending, meaning they track businesses that sell products consumers buy even when the economy slows down, offering a defensive layer to a diversified portfolio. For those prioritizing dividend income, these vehicles can serve as reliable foundations within a conservative strategy.

Despite wanting to keep her gigantic philanthropy quiet, MacKenzie Scott's giving keeps making a splash.
Of the $19.2 billion worth of megagifts made by donors in 2025, Scott's giving represented one-third, according to data provided to Fortune from Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, had her banner philanthropic year in 2025, when she donated about $7 billion, which brought her **** ulative giving to $26.2 billion in just five years across thousands of organizations focused on housing, DEI, disaster recovery, and many more causes.
Other 2025 megadonors included Michael Bloomberg ($4.3 billion), Bill Gates ($3.7 billion), Warren Buffett ($1.34 billion), and Susan and Michael Dell (nearly $1 billion). These megadonors are part of the larger philanthropic engine in the U.S., which totaled a whopping $617.2 billion in 2025, according to a report published by Giving USA and IU's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy released Tuesday. This included philanthropic donations from individuals, bequests, foundations, and corporations to U.S. charities. The total is a 5.7% jump from the previous year.
"It was a positive year for charitable giving, with virtually all categories of recipient organizations achieving solid or better growth at the aggregate level," Gabe Cooper, vice chair of Giving USA Foundation and founder and CEO of Virtuous, said in a statement. Some of the organization types that received the most funding include religion, human services, education, health, international affairs, and arts and culture.
Despite Scott's extreme generosity in 2025, the Chronicle of Philanthropy didn't recognize her on its list of the top 50 donors this year. That's due mostly to Scott's quiet nature of giving. She is notoriously under-the-radar with her donations, never personally seeking press coverage for her gifts and rarely offering insights into the donations.

Nate Tice & Robert Mays rank the top 12 mastermind playcallers in the NFL heading into the 2026 season. The duo kick things off with three NFC West head coaches at the top, debating the play-calling genius displayed by Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams), Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers) and defending champ Mike Macdonald (Seattle Seahawks). Ben Johnson rounds out the top four for his masterful command of the Chicago Bears offense.
Next up, Nate and Robert give some love to a pair of defensive coordinators with VERY different approaches in Vic Fangio (Philadelphia Eagles) and Brian Flores (Minnesota Vikings), plus a few former star coordinators: Jesse Minter and Brian Schottenheimer, now head coaching the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys respectively.
