Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is reportedly pondering starting Barcelona star Lamine Yamal against Saudi Arabia on Sunday at World Cup 2026.
Yamal came off the bench for 17 minutes in Spain’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opener but did look lively on his return from injury.
According to Cope, the chances of Yamal starting against Saudi Arabia are “increasing” as Spain’s medical staff believe he is able to play 45 minutes. However, there is a risk of relapse which means Spain must be very careful with the teenager.
Spain are also thinking about starting Yamal because De la Fuente is expected to make changes to his team after an underwhelming start to the tournament.
Dani Olmo and Alex Baena are also options to come into the starting XI, with Gavi potentially dropping out.
