Investor focus shifted back to artificial intelligence, despite component shortages like processing chips affecting profits and valuations. Valuation-sensitive investors are selective within the AI sector, in contrast to valuation-agnostic indexes that adopt a more relaxed strategy. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.

Weitz Multi Cap Equity Fund stated the following regarding Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) (the principal **** et of portfolio holding Liberty Broadband) shares were weak as investors remain laser-focused on the impact of competition in Charter's core broadband market. Although the stock price has not yet improved, we remain constructive and believe Charter's growing wireless business, forecasted reduction in investment spending and impending combination with **** provide reasons for optimism."

Railroad retirement coverage follows the employer, not the work, so independent locomotive manufacturers' workers earn zero creditable railroad service regardless of their job.
Paycheck deductions reveal which system applies. Railroad employees pay Tier I and Tier II taxes, while Social Security-covered workers see only standard withholding.
Workers should confirm RRB employer coverage, check payroll records for Tier II deductions, and review their Social Security earnings record before building any retirement plan.
Are you ahead, or behind on retirement? SmartAsset's free tool can match you with a financial advisor in minutes to help you answer that today. Each advisor has been carefully vetted, and must act in your best interests. Don't waste another minute; learn more here.
In February, Union Pacific signed a $1.2 billion deal with Wabtec to modernize locomotives, a reminder that the companies building the machines and the railroads running them can sit on opposite sides of a surprisingly important retirement line.

On August 6, SIGA Technologies (NASDAQ:SIGA) reported financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, and the numbers tell two very different stories depending on which quarter you compare them to. Revenue and profit both cratered from a year ago, yet the company still turned a profit, paid out a special dividend, and closed the books on a major government contract. For a stock priced at less than three times forward earnings, that combination is worth unpacking.
The quarter's headline number is $37 million in TPOXX sales spread across three customers. That included $24 million of IV TPOXX delivered to the US strategic national stockpile and $13 million of oral TPOXX sold to two international buyers. CEO Diem Nguyen pointed to deliveries spanning the US, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, across multiple formulations, as evidence the company is executing its plan to sell TPOXX to a broader mix of regions and customers rather than leaning on a single buyer.
That IV shipment also marked something bigger. The deliveries completed the last procurement order under the 19C contract, the government agreement that has anchored SIGA's stockpile sales for years. Wrapping up that order cleanly, alongside new international oral TPOXX business, supports the idea that SIGA can keep generating meaningful revenue even as its original government relationship winds down. The company also stayed profitable through the transition. Net income came in at $12.5 million for the quarter and $9 million for the first half of the year, and it still had room to pay shareholders a special cash dividend of $0.6 per share, declared March 26 and paid out April 23 to holders of record as of April 7. A company burning cash could not make that call.
Set next to a year ago, the quarter looks like a steep step down. Product sales fell to $37.9 million from $79.1 million, and six-month product sales dropped to $41.4 million from $84.9 million. Total revenue followed the same path, sliding to $41 million from $81.1 million in the quarter and to $47.2 million from $88.2 million over six months.
Profitability fell even faster than revenue. Operating income dropped to $13.9 million from $45.7 million in the quarter, and to $8.6 million from $43.4 million over six months. Net income slid to $12.5 million from $35.5 million, and diluted earnings per share fell to $0.17 from $0.49. The six-month numbers show the same pattern, with EPS down to $0.13 from $0.49. And with the last 19C procurement order now delivered, the specific piece of business that drove those bigger prior-year numbers will not simply repeat itself, leaving the company to lean on the newer international and stockpile orders it is still building out.

Artisan Partners, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor commentary for the "Artisan Global Opportunities Strategy". The letter can be downloaded here. Global equities rebounded sharply during the quarter, with the MSCI ACWI Index returning 15.3% as resilient economic growth, strong corporate earnings, and continued enthusiasm around artificial intelligence supported markets despite persistent inflation, higher bond yields, and geopolitical uncertainty. The portfolio reported strong absolute returns of 12.65% (net) but underperformed the benchmark, mainly because of its underweight exposure to information technology and overweight position in health care. Strong stock selection in technology and energy partially offset these headwinds. The fund continues to see attractive long-term opportunities across AI infrastructure, health care and consumer internet, while remaining disciplined on valuation as several AI-related stocks have appreciated sharply. Management remains focused on durable franchises with identifiable profit cycles and attractive long-term earnings potential. Also, check the Strategy's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Artisan Global Opportunities Fund highlighted Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) as a notable contributor to performance. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) is the world's leading contract chip manufacturer, producing advanced semiconductors for major global technology companies. On September 1, 2026, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) closed at $414.00 per share. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) fell 0.07% over the past month, while its shares gained 78.80% over the past 52 weeks. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) has a market capitalization of $2 Trillion.
Artisan Global Opportunities Fund stated the following regarding Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) is the global leader in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, with strong pricing power supported by AI-driven demand. Recent results exceeded expectations with revenue growing 41% and gross margins expanding to 66%. Given TSMC's leading position and the continued supply constraints for the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing capacity, we expect demand and earnings momentum to remain robust. We also believe the company's bottleneck position in the AI supply chain, recent price increases and still reasonable valuation support an attractive long-term profit cycle."

It's crucial to separate two very different time frames, because they tell opposite stories. On a year-to-date basis, semiconductors still dominate: semiconductor ETFs like SOXX and SMH are up roughly 50% to 70%+, while the flagship software ETF, IGV, spent much of the year underwater, down double digits at points as investors dumped software on fears that AI would disrupt SaaS business models.
But on a month-to-date and recent-trend basis, the leadership has completely reversed. Over the past several weeks, software ETFs have sharply outperformed chip ETFs. In August alone, software crushed semiconductors in what ****** ysts called a record divergence. 58 of 61 major chip stocks fell while the software winners posted enormous monthly gains. If you're looking at the last month rather than the last year, software is winning decisively.
After a monster first half, chip stocks became expensive with some names trading at extreme forward multiples (Intel at one point traded near 79x forward earnings). Meanwhile, software had been sold off hard earlier in the year on AI-disruption fears, leaving many SaaS names historically cheap. When the growth is comparable but one side is pricey and the other is discounted, money typically rotates toward the discount.
The first phase of the AI boom was about building the infrastructure — the chips, the data centers, the memory. That phase overwhelmingly rewarded semiconductors. The market is now shifting to the next question: who actually monetizes AI? Increasingly, the answer points to the application and software layer — the companies embedding AI into enterprise products and charging for it. That thesis flows directly into software ETFs like IGV, SKYY, and WCLD.
Semiconductor indices had become historically top-heavy and crowded, with concentration metrics near record extremes. When a trade gets that crowded, it becomes vulnerable to a sharp unwind, exactly what the August sell-off in chips looked like. Investors took profits in their biggest winners and redeployed into the laggard.

Forty-two states don't tax Social Security benefits, giving many retirees a break on at least one major source of income.
Some states also exempt pension income, retirement account withdrawals, or military retirement pay from state taxes.
Nine states have no broad individual income tax, though retirees may still face property, sales, or other state and local taxes.
After a lifetime of contributing to Social Security, building up a retirement plan, or earning a pension, you may be bracing for a big tax hit in retirement. But state taxes vary widely, and many retirees get a break: 42 states don't tax Social Security income, 37 don't tax most military retirement pay, and 16 exempt pension income from state taxes.
Nine states go even further by not imposing a broad individual income tax at all. That can make a meaningful difference in how much retirement income you get to keep, though property, sales, and other taxes still matter when deciding where to live.

Zillow Group (NASDAQ: ZG) resolved its antitrust lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission and five state attorneys general on Monday, heading off a federal trial scheduled to begin this week. The settlement removes an unpredictable legal overhang while leaving Zillow's rentals strategy fully intact.
The agreement keeps Zillow's multifamily distribution partnership with Redfin in place through at least 2030. Listings will continue to syndicate across a combined network that includes Zillow, Trulia, HotPads, Rent.com, ApartmentGuide, Redfin, and Realtor.com.
The network gives property managers a direct alternative to CoStar Group's Apartments.com, which has long commanded the lion's share of institutional multifamily ad dollars. By pooling distribution across Zillow, Redfin, and partner sites, landlords get multi-portal reach through a single contract, while renters see a broader pool of listings on whichever app they open.
Related: Anonymous coder hides Bitcoin puzzle in Satoshi's genesis block
Since syndication launched, multifamily listings on Redfin have nearly quadrupled, while Zillow's own multifamily inventory rose roughly 40%. In the second quarter of 2026, Zillow hit a record 79,000 multifamily properties and averaged 2.8 million monthly active rental listings, pushing quarterly rental revenue up 31% year over year to $209 million, led by a 42% surge in multifamily ad sales, putting pressure on Apartments.com's value proposition and pricing structure.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL) are eerily similar companies. Both of them produce networking equipment for data centers, but they have also launched custom AI chip businesses with a few critical customers. Custom AI chips are likely to grow in popularity, as they can offer superior cost performance to traditional GPU-based training.
This primes both stocks to benefit as these units become more popular. But which one is the better buy? I think there's one metric that settles the debate.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
To date, most training and inference has been performed on graphics processing units (GPUs), mostly made by Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). GPUs are incredible computing units, and are great for a wide variety of workloads. The amount of flexibility that Nvidia has designed into its computing unit is amazing, but if a GPU only sees one workload type during its whole service life, then this flexibility is wasted. GPUs are still necessary in the computing landscape, as there are several reasons why GPUs should still be utilized; however, custom AI chips could provide better performance in some areas.
Custom AI chips are known as ASICs, application-specific integrated circuits. ASICs are nothing new, but their application to AI is. By building a computing chip around a workload rather than the other way around, designers can optimize and make these products efficient and cost-effective. This leads to more computing power at a lower cost, often outperforming GPU-based computing.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) has launched a national security review of Shein's acquisition of clothing retailer Everlane, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources.
The Treasury-led interagency panel began scrutinising the transaction after the $80m deal was finalised in May 2026.
Shein itself initiated the review process at that point—a departure from standard practice, since companies usually obtain CFIUS approval before a deal closes rather than afterwards.
The central question is whether Shein's ownership of a business holding US consumers' personal data poses a threat to national security.
No outcome has yet emerged from the review.

Is Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) stock overbought... and overpriced?
Worries over a Morgan Stanley report yesterday, which compared the percentage of the S&P 500 index that is Sandisk stock versus the percentage Sandisk occupies in the portfolios of large institutional investors -- and concluded Sandisk is "over-owned" -- spooked investors yesterday. By close of trading, Sandisk stock had fallen 9%.

As we approach the mid-day mark Wednesday, Sandisk stock continues to drift lower -- down 2.2% as of 11:30 a.m. ET.
Morgan Stanley's number-crunchers did what they do, calculating percentages and concluding that certain tech stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, are all "under-owned" (because institutions don't own as much of them as S&P does). Other stocks, and Sandisk in particular, are conversely "over-owned" -- because they're more popular on Wall Street.

Travel services provider Expedia Group Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE)'s shares are up by 58% over the past year and by 13.5% year-to-date. The firm reported its second quarter earnings earlier this week and posted $4.32 billion in revenue and $5.76 in adjusted profit per share to beat ****** yst estimates of $4.17 billion and $5.23. Crucially, Expedia Group Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) also raised its full year revenue and bookings forecasts. For the revenue, it now expects to earn $16.05 billion to $16.22 billion, up from the previous $15.6 billion to $16.0 billion. As for the bookings, Expedia Group Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) hiked the guide to $129.5 billion to $130.8 billion from the earlier $127 billion to $129 billion. The firm's optimism pointed towards a robust travel industry despite the high gasoline prices that Americans are facing off against. The optimism was caught by Cramer's watchful radar as well:
"This may be the quarter where people say, even though the gasoline went up, well it came down a little bit, even though the K part of the consumer is not doing well, Expedia following Bookings, with another blowout. And I look at thee two and I say, wait a second, these say the consumer. . .is really good. This is a nice view of spend. If you put up AXP, that's the one people said, well, it didn't do that well. I think it's time to go back to American Express. I think Steve Squeri did a very good job, he's always been understated, the other guys, a little more promotional. But travel is on fire."
American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) is one of Jim Cramer's favorite stocks in the sector. Throughout 2025, he regularly praised the firm's payment cards and their popularity with younger users. The shares, while up by 12% over the year, are down by 8% year-to-date. The earnings that Cramer referred to in his remarks were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP)'s second quarter results reported in the morning on July 24th. They saw the firm beat ****** yst profit estimates but disappoint investors on the guidance front by keeping the full year per share profit guide unchanged at $17.30 to $17.90.
While Cramer was focused on the guide and the importance of the results to consumer spending, the debate surrounding Expedia Group Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) is broader than that. It primarily concerns the firm's business-to-business (B2B), which covers hotels, airlines and other businesses. The firm's bulls argue that the B2B platform is a growth engine on its own and is not simply masking troubles in the consumer end of the business. Additionally, they believe that Expedia Group Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) can use B2B to diversify away from the consumer business marked by high competition. Additionally, they are also impressed by EBITDA margin growing to 25.9% in Q2 and a hike to full year margin guidance. Yet the bears point towards the costs of using AI to expand m

Lucid Group (LCID) released its Q2 2026 earnings yesterday, Aug. 4, after the markets closed. The confessional attracted higher-than-usual attention for a couple of reasons. First, it was preceded by a turbulent couple of months that saw LCID shares fall to all-time lows on bankruptcy rumors, and second, it was the first call under the new CEO, Silvio Napoli.
Meanwhile, more than the numbers, the earnings call was about the strategic vision Napoli laid out for the company and how the new management team wants to transform Lucid into a sustainable business.

The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ: SMH) is down around 20% from its high reached just a month ago. The artificial intelligence (AI) trade has cooled substantially as investors look for tangible positive results from these companies, not just aggressive spending on AI development.
That's what's partially caused Alphabet's and Meta Platforms' stocks to crater over the past few weeks. They've kept their foot on the gas with AI spending as free-cash-flow growth turns negative. Folks seem to be getting nervous about investing in companies that may be getting out over their skis.

Semiconductor stocks have gotten dragged down alongside these names. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're worth avoiding. In fact, if you follow the Warren Buffett mantra to "be greedy when others are fearful," it might actually be the smartest trade to make right now.

A new tie-up with a huge name in the tech sector was a key factor driving up the price of Commvault Systems (NASDAQ: CVLT) stock on Monday. The data protection specialist also benefited from general investor bullishness on the tech sector. At market close, Commvault's stock was up by more than 6%.
Commvault kicked things off before market open by announcing a new collaboration with an old partner, core Alphabet unit Google. Under the terms of the deal, Commvault's Threat Scan software will be integrated into the Google Threat Intelligence security solution.

Everyone expected some changes at Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA) (NYSE: BRKB) when Greg Abel took over as CEO in January. But one of his more surprising moves has been his aggressive investment in Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG).
Berkshire didn't start investing in Alphabet until the third quarter of 2025, but it now owns over $23 billion in Class A GOOGL shares and another $6 billion in Class C GOOG shares.

While Berkshire tends to let its investments speak for themselves rather than add commentary for each decision, there are three likely reasons why it's been loading up on shares.
Berkshire opened a position in Alphabet in the third quarter of 2025, purchasing roughly 18 million shares. While Warren Buffett was still CEO and had indicated he initiated Berkshire's Alphabet ownership, Abel still likely had an influence on the decision based on what was to follow. In the first quarter of 2026, Berkshire purchased 40 million more shares.

Americans lost a shocking $3.5 billion to imposter scams in 2025, according to data from the Federal Trade Commission (1). These losses are around three times greater than in 2020. Imposter scams were the leading cause of fraud last year, with almost one in three fraud reports related to scammers impersonating others via phone, text, or other means.

Continue »
