Cathie Wood, head of Ark Investment Management, often buys her favorite tech stocks when she sees a new opportunity.
That's what she did last week, pouring $27.9 million into Meta Platforms (META) as the company pushes deeper into AI.
Last year, the flagship Ark Innovation ETF gained 35.49%, far outpacing the S&P 500's return of 17.88% in the same period. So far this year, Wood's flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) is up 8.66% as of writing, while the S&P 500 surged 11.85%, Yahoo Finance data shows.
Wood gained a reputation after the Ark Innovation ETF delivered a rosy 153% return in 2020. But her style also brings painful losses in bearish markets, as seen in 2022, when the ETF tumbled more than 60%.
Those swings have weighed on Wood's long-term gains. As of Sept. 11, her Ark Innovation ETF has delivered a five-year annualized return of -6.89%, while the S&P 500 has an annualized return of 11.42% over the same period, according to data from Morningstar.

Besides the Mercury's declining profit, investors are balking at the company's narrower margins. In Q4 2026, Mercury's operating margin contracted to 5% from 8.6% during the same period in 2025. Similarly, Mercury reported a slimmer profit margin in the last quarter of fiscal 2026, at 0.3%, compared with 8.6% in Q4 2025.

DHL Express has completed the $204 million expansion of its "super gateway" at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in South China's Guangdong province, tripling shipping capacity to 992 tons per day and enabling more direct cargo flights.
The project represents the company's largest investment in mainland China to date, supporting cross-border trade and time-definite international express services in one of China's most important manufacturing and export regions.
A gateway in the DHL network is a regional connection point that links local service centers to the global network. Some shipments from producers in Shenzhen and trucked to DHL's main terminal at Hong Kong International Airport if they need to reach other intercontinental hubs.
Once at full capacity, annual throughput is expected to exceed 286,000 tons, about 10 times the volume handled by the previous Shenzhen gateway, according to the China Daily News. Construction of the facility began in 2022. The heavily automated facility features high-speed sorting systems, automated storage, robotic arms and automated guided vehicles designed to efficiently and safely unload, store, handle, inspect and monitor parcels and larger shipments.
Complementing the expansion of shipment processing capacity, DHL has introduced a new dedicated air route with a widebody Boeing 767 cargo jet linking Shanghai; Bangkok, Thailand; Bahrain and Brussels, Belgium, to meet demand for air cargo transport between China and key markets across Asia, the Middle East and Europe, DHL announced this week.

Private mortgage insurance (PMI) is insurance that protects the lender if you don't make payments on your home loan. If you're putting less than 20% down on a home and taking out a conventional loan, you generally have to pay this cost at closing or as part of your monthly mortgage payments.
PMI is a form of mortgage insurance that applies to conventional loans. If you buy a home with a conventional loan and your down payment is less than 20% of the home's value, buying PMI is mandatory. Lenders also require you to buy PMI if you're refinancing with a conventional loan and you have less than 20% equity in the home.
Lenders set up your PMI with private insurance companies that offer it, and the cost is listed on your loan estimate and closing disclosure.
PMI is there to protect the lender, not the borrower. If you don't make your mortgage payments, the lender can recoup some of the money they're owed from the insurer. But you're not protected from late payment fines or foreclosure.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh sent a stark warning on bailouts during a testimony on July 14.
Warsh appeared before the House Financial Services Committee for the Fed's semi-annual monetary policy report on Tuesday and repeatedly said the central bank doesn't want to bail out failing companies, including those belonging to the crypto industry.
During the testimony, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA-32) asked Warsh if the central bank would come forward to bail out failed cryptocurrency companies the way it rescued money market funds during the 2008 global financial crisis.
In no uncertain terms, Warsh denied any possibility of the Fed bailing out crypto firms if they fail.
"We do not want to be in the bailout business, full stop."
