Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) shares have crashed 20% as of 12:00 PM ET on Thursday after delivering one of the biotech sector's most extraordinary single-day moves of 2026. CNBC co-anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin told viewers that Moderna's Phase 3 results for its experimental cancer vaccine sent the stock soaring 177% on Wednesday, while partner Merck (NYSE:MRK) rallied 12.5%.
As Sorkin summarized on air, "The mRNA based shot, in combination with Merck's immunotherapy called Keytruda, met key goals in a trial of patients with higher risk or advanced melanoma whose detectable cancer had been removed."

With LeBron James joining the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, the NBA's schedule makers have been given the green light to get to work on the 2026-27 campaign.
"Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule," NBA commissioner Adam Silver told CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin in July. "So I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule, because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc."
On Tuesday, the league announced the slate for two of its marquee broadcasting days, Opening Night and Christmas Day. True to Silver's word, the schedules for both days feature James' Sixers.
The 2026-27 regular season tips off Tuesday, Oct. 20, when Philadelphia will take on the defending NBA champion New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden, the Oklahoma City Thunder travel to face the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals, and the Boston Celtics take the court against the Detroit Pistons.
Unsurprisingly, James and the Sixers will feature in the primetime 7 p.m. ET slot. However, fans were quick to note the Celtics-Pistons game's unorthodox 3 p.m. ET start time. ESPN's Dave McMenamin appeared on Tuesday's NBA Today episode to provide some insight into the decision.

The NBA's opening night and Christmas Day schedules for the 2026-27 season are set.
The league announced Tuesday that the 2026-27 regular season will tip off Oct. 20 with an NBC/Peacock tripleheader, and the marquee window belongs to LeBron James in his first appearance as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. The slate of games opens with the Boston Celtics visiting the Detroit Pistons at 3 p.m. ET, a rematch of the East's top two regular-season teams from a year ago. At 7 p.m., the Philadelphia 76ers travel to Madison Square Garden to face the defending-champion New York Knicks, marking not just James' Sixers debut but Jaylen Brown's as well. The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs close the night at 9:30 p.m. in a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals.
None of the above scheduling could get finalized until LeBron actually picked a team. Commissioner Adam Silver was stuck in the same holding pattern as everyone else, telling CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin in July that the league couldn't finalize opening week or Christmas Day until James made up his mind.
"The teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule," Silver said at the time, conceding he had no more insight into James' plans than anyone else. James ultimately settled on Philadelphia over stops in Cleveland, Miami, or a pairing with Steph Curry in Golden State. The league moved quickly once the decision was official, building both of its marquee showcase dates directly around him.
Christmas Day retained its familiar five-game format, even as several of this year's pairings deviated from what most had anticipated. The slate on ESPN and ABC opens at noon with the Spurs visiting the Knicks, followed by the Heat and Celtics at 2:30, the 76ers at the Lakers at 5, the Thunder at the Timberwolves at 8, and the Nuggets closing out the night at Golden State at 10:30.

I rolled up to a high school football camp yesterday and I whispered into the universe… run the triple option.
People that know me know about my love/hate relationship with Aaron Sorkin. So… I'm stealing a ******* le that he's used for multiple episodes of his television shows; Talking Points. It just seems to be the theme right now as far as Notre Dame Football is concerned. The tropes and storylines are pretty much just rinse and repeat.
Notre Dame's New York media blitz was much more tame and controlled than I originally thought it would be, but that isn't a criticism. There are enough people talking about Notre Dame in a number of ways, that a lighter touch maybe cuts through the onside a little better — perhaps even highlights the main focus.
Regardless of all of that, Marcus Freeman continued to do the rounds
Calm down… we're not talking about politics here. This is about Notre Dame and Ohio State and their reach into the corporate world.
