Practices are already underway, and soon enough the games will begin for Section V boys soccer.
Section championship games will be held the final weekend of October at sites to be announced later. Following in November, Middletown High School will host the New York state championships for the 17th consecutive year.

Gentlemen from Connecticut, start your engines. The Nutmeg State just doubled its chances in "The Chase."
Berlin native Ryan Preece, with an overtime victory Saturday night at Daytona in the ***** e Zero Sugar 400, the final regular-season race in the NASCAR Cup Series, secured the 16th and final berth in the postseason.
Preece will join Middletown native and former Cup champion Joey Logano in the 16-driver playoff series, which opens Sunday at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
On Saturday night at Daytona, Preece triumphed at a track at which he knew mostly trauma. He twice flipped cars at NASCAR's iconic home track, last year during the Daytona 500 and in 2023 at the ***** e Zero Sugar 400.
This time around, Preece dodged mayhem on the final lap when leader Zane Smith got ***** ped and spun into other cars. Preece safely navigated his No. 60 car to the front and took the checkered flag under caution.

After three one-run wins positioned it to reach the Junior Little League World Series, Middletown-Odessa-Townsend was foiled by two such defeats on July 30.
The Delaware champs lost twice to New Jersey champion Freehold Township at the East Regional July 30 in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
Freehold Township scored four sixth-inning runs to pull ahead in the deciding game and prevailed 9-8 when MOT scored just one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Freehold Township had forced a deciding game in the double-elimination format by winning earlier in the afternoon 12-11 as both teams staged incredible rallies.
MOT trailed 8-1 through five innings, then scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and seven more in the seventh to go ahead 11-8. But Freehold answered by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to prevail in dramatic fashion.

Social media influencer with pages called "Celebrity Medical Esthetician" and "Trad Wife" becomes a hot topic after a video of her arrest for shoplifting at a Jersey Shore ShopRite is released.
Jeana M. DiCarlo, 35, of Middletown, was arrested after Middletown Police Officer James Courtney responded to the ShopRite located at 1500 Route 35 at 5:16 p.m. on Friday due to a report of a female stealing on the premises, according to the Middletown Police report and the body camera video released by Transparency Bodycam.
DiCarlo has more than 30,900 followers on her Instagram account jgloskincaree, where she describes herself as a "Celebrity Medical Esthetician," business owner, a "Mom of 5," and a "FireWife". Her posts contain information about her skincare routine, her five children (a baby boy that she claims to have conceived via in vitro fertilization after five girls), and her firefighter husband who works with the FDNY.
According to the criminal complaint, store employees said that DiCarlo tried to leave the store with stolen merchandise. The value of the items was estimated at $548.80. Based on evidence from store surveillance video and the store's decision to press charges against her, DiCarlo was arrested, handcuffed, and transported to Middletown Township Police headquarters. She was charged with third-degree shoplifting and released on her own recognizance until her court appearance.
During the investigation, it was found that DiCarlo had committed similar crimes on May 8, May 17, and May 31, with a total value of the items of $1,940.20. Thus, the total estimated value for all four incidents became $2,489.

Philadelphia Phillies slugger and former Middletown High School standout Kyle Schwarber appeared on "Pat McAfee Show" ahead of Schwarber taking part in the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby, and talked about how the derby reminds him of growing up as a Reds fan and pretending he was Reds Hall of Famer and former Moeller High School standout Ken Griffey Jr.
"I grew up in Cincinnati (as a) Reds fan," Schwarber said. "Griffey, hat backwards. Like growing up playing tee ball. I've got a wood bat. There's a picture of me. Middletown, Virginia, was scheduled to have three Washington NFL players help celebrate America.
Middletown, just south of Winchester and Stephens City, is a small town with a community spirit that enjoys celebrating our privilege to live in this country, the United States of America. The city of Middletown was celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary, and two very familiar Washington football names were scheduled to join the celebration.
Dexter Manley, the fierce pass rusher for the Washington Redskins from 1981-89, was so intense, so quick off the snap of the ball. During his nine seasons in Washington, Manley accumulated 97 quarterback sacks. During his peak NFL seasons, Manley posted four-year runs of 11.0, 13.5, 15.0, and 18.5 quarterback sacks from 1983-1986. He was drafted in 1981 by GM Bobby Beathard in the 5th round, No. 119 overall, out of Oklahoma State University, and is a member of the Commanders Ring of Fame.
Manley wasn't the only Washington legend in Middletown. Former Redskins kicker Mark Moseley, who enjoyed a 17-year NFL career, including 13 with Washington, was also a part of the festivities. Moseley remains the only kicker in NFL history to win an MVP award.
Joining Manley and Moseley was current Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Nicknamed 'Bill,' he was selected by the Commanders in the final round (7th) of the 2025 NFL Draft, No. 245 overall. But Bill didn't let No. 245 discourage him, as he made the Commanders' final roster in 2025 with some sterling play in the preseason. Averaging 4.6 yards per carry and scoring 8 touchdowns, Croskey-Merritt gained 805 rushing yards during the 2025 regular season.

The Portland Trail Blazers named Micah Nori, a 1993 graduate of Middletown High School, their new head coach on Tuesday, June 23.
It's the first NBA head coaching job for Nori, 52, who served as the lead ******* istant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves for the last five seasons.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the Trail Blazers and want to thank Tom (Dundon), Joe (Cronin) and the Rip City Rising ownership group for their trust," Nori said in a press release. "From my conversations with Tom and Joe, it was evident that there is a strong commitment to building a culture that values accountability, development and team success. This is a team with tremendous talent, and I'm excited to begin working with our players and staff."
Nori was a three-sport start at Fenwick and Middletown and played baseball at Indiana University. His basketball coaching career began with an internship with the Toronto Raptors in 1998.
Nori worked as an advance scout for 10 years before landing an ******* istant coaching job with the Raptors in 2009. He spent four seasons in that position. He has since held ******* istant coaching positions with the Sacramento Kings (2013-15), Denver Nuggets (2015-18) and Detroit Pistons (2018-21) and Timberwolves.

Portsmouth boys lacrosse cruises in win over rival Middletown

MIDDLETOWN – There won’t be a need for a playoff victory to make up for a regular-season sweep this time.
Portsmouth made sure of that Friday, May 8, against rival Middletown. The Patriots were on the wrong end twice against the Islanders last spring before solving them in late May on the way to the Division II boys lacrosse ***** le round.
There was no such mystery on this occasion under the lights at Gaudet Field. Rafe Dionne and Teddy Gersen were sharp in attack from the opening faceoff as Portsmouth zipped to a 10-3 win over Middletown.
Dionne collected six goals and Gersen added a hat trick to go along with an ***** ist on a Luke Brandariz goal. The Patriots needed less than three minutes to take the lead for good, peppering Islanders keeper Corey Chiodo with early shots and eventually building a comfortable cushion.
“We really wanted to beat them,” Dionne said. “We knocked them out of the playoffs last year – they beat us twice before that. So we really came out here with extra drive today to give it to them.”
