Patchy Mix knew he wouldn't get his hands raised Tuesday in Tokyo, as he missed weight for his RIZIN 54 co-main event bout with Shoko Sato and any other result other than a loss would be immediately overturned to a no-contest, and the two-point deduction for the miss made the difference in the end.
Mix was more than six pounds over the bantamweight limit, the reason why he was docked two points, and decided to go for the finish early on. Sato survived a rear-naked choke in the opening round, and another submission attempt in the third, damaging Mix's leg when on the feet. Sato was declared the unanimous decision winner (28-27 x3), extending Mix's losing skid to four.

Energy and enthusiasm were the order of the day at Fred G. Hughes Stadium Wednesday as the Missouri Southern State University football team gathered for its first official practice of the 2026 season.
"The first of anything is exciting," head coach Atiba Bradley said. "Every season has its own baby — its own challenge, its own entity, so I'm excited about opening it up. I'm excited to get it started. I didn't get into coaching to sit behind a desk from 9 to 5. Being able to come out on the field and be in my element — this is what gets us going, and this is why we work so hard."
Southern defensive back Peyton McKee talked about his emotions heading into the first day of practice.
"It's just a nostalgic feeling of being around football again," McKee said. "I just love to play the game, love to be around my brothers and I'm just excited to get the season going."
Wide receiver David Bethune also shared his thoughts about the first day of practice.

PHILADELPHIA − Eagles quarterback Andy Dalton says he likes rotating back and forth with Tanner McKee between the second and third units.
The part he likes the most is not knowing from day to day, and even series to series, as the Eagles go through their first full week of training camp with the two quarterbacks battling to back up Jalen Hurts.
That is something new for the 38-year-old Dalton, who has thrown for just under 40,000 yards in his career as he enters his 16th NFL season.

Jalen Hurts did not wait for a question to establish the Philadelphia Eagles' standard for the 2026 season.
Hurts opened his first training camp news conference with a statement about the offseason, the workouts he organized with teammates and the importance of strengthening relationships throughout the offense.
"Really good summer," Hurts said. "We got a lot of work in, got a lot of guys together and definitely grew closer. The mentality is 100 percent alignment, zero entitlement."
The message reflects Hurts' approach to leading a roster filled with accomplished and highly paid players. Philadelphia has Pro Bowl selections, All-Pro performers and players with championship experience, but Hurts does not believe previous success guarantees future results. His offseason work amid A.J. Brown's departure was designed to build the alignment he referenced. Hurts trained with quarterbacks Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton and Cole Payton in Orlando, Florida, while several wide receivers and tight ends participated in throwing sessions.

McKees Rocks native and NFL player Damar Hamlin is hosting a weekend of events Saturday and Sunday.
The events are celebrating youth empowerment, sports achievement and community engagement in his hometown. The two-day event includes a youth football camp and a first-of-its-kind Pittsburgh vs. Buffalo all-star football game.
Both events are scheduled to take place at Sto-Rox Junior/Senior High School in McKees Rocks.
Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation is sponsoring the action-packed weekend.
Saturday 300 young Pittsburgh-area athletes will participate in the youth football camp. Sunday, high school senior football players from the Pittsburgh and Buffalo regions will compete in an all-star game.

That mindset was on display again this offseason as he continued training with renowned quarterback trainer Quincy Avery while also organizing work with several Eagles offensive players in Orlando, Florida. Nearly all of Philadelphia's quarterbacks were present, including Hurts, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, and Cole Payton, along with a large group of wide receivers and tight ends. DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Dallas Goedert, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins and Eli Stowers were among those involved, while Makai Lemon continues working through a hamstring injury.
The trip was about more than throwing routes.
It included training, workouts, golf, and bonding, giving Hurts a chance to build timing and chemistry with a new-look supporting cast before training camp. Dallas Cowboys football player Marshawn Kneeland was suffering from stage 1 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) when he died by suicide last year, scientists said.
Researchers at Boston University's CTE Center made the diagnosis through a postmortem brain tissue ***** ysis of the defensive lineman, who died aged 24.
"Unfortunately, I was not surprised to find CTE in the brain of Mr Kneeland, because we have found this progressive brain disease in nearly half of the athletes we've studied who have died before the age of 30," said the centre's director, Dr Ann McKee.
Stage 1 is the mildest of CTE's four stages, where headaches and loss of attention or concentration are common symptoms.
In a statement, Kneeland's family said the diagnosis provided "important context" about some of the struggles he was facing.

This isn’t the first offseason that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has worked with his teammates to build chemistry and rapport ahead of training camp. This is, however, the most extensive look we’ve had of Hurts and most of the skill players spending time together both on and off the field. The group was in Orlando for the weekend, and got a workout in at UCF.

Michael McDowell's future at Spire Motorsports has become murky during the 2026 NASCAR season. With Daniel Suarez and Carson Hocevar running at a very high level, McDowell has been far and away the least productive driver at Spire Motorsports. However, will it spark a change for the No. 71 team?
Motorsports Wire is predicting that McDowell will return to the No. 71 car for Spire Motorsports in 2027. Despite rumors of a possible departure or retirement, the Daytona 500 champion will earn another go in the entry. McDowell will have to make steady improvements during the 2027 NASCAR season.

In the main event, former Bellator champion A.J. McKee takes on the undefeated Salmat Isbulaev in featherweight contest.
McKee (24-2) is 2-0 since returning to the 145-pound division following back-to-back victories over Adam Borics and Akhmed Magomedov. He aims to the first fighter to beat Isbulaev (10-0), who defeated veteran Jesus Pinedo via first-round knockout in his PFL debut this past February.

While Iowa basketball's 2026-27 season remains about five months away, that did not stop Hawkeye fans from expressing their excitement for the new group of stars as the team began its first day of summer practice in Iowa City on Sunday.
Although the Hawkeyes lost some key members from their team that advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2026 NCAA Tournament this past spring, Iowa did bring in a handful of talented names in Ethan Harris, Jaidyn **** and transfer portal additions Andrew McKeever (Saint Mary's) and Ty’Reek Coleman (Illinois State).
