CLEVELAND (AP) — Daniel Schneemann singled home rookie Angel Genao from third base in the 10th inning to send Cleveland to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, the Guardians' third walk-off victory in the four-game series.
With a runner at second, Patrick Bailey opened the 10th with a single off Kyle Finnegan (3-1). Schneemann then ripped a 1-0 pitch into right, triggering another celebration by the Guardians, who are chasing Chicago in the AL Central.
The Guardians didn't lead at any point in the series until their final swing. Cleveland swept a doubleheader on Friday before being shut out Saturday.
Cade Smith (5-1) pitched two perfect innings, striking out the side in the 10th with an automatic runner at second.
Brayan Rocchio homered for the Guardians, who came in tied with Toronto for the final wild-card spot.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Gavin Williams struck out a career-high 13 and allowed just two singles in seven innings, leading the Cleveland Guardians to a 6-1 win on Tuesday night over the Toronto Blue Jays in a matchup of teams in the thick of the AL wild-card race.
Patrick Bailey, rookie Angel Genao and Angel Martinez all hit two-run homers for the Guardians, who are 11-4 since Aug. 12. Cleveland came in with a slim lead for the third wild-card spot.
Williams (13-7) began September by dominating the Blue Jays, allowing one unearned run. The right-hander, who was coming off a shaky outing last week, didn't give up a hit until the fourth.
Williams struck out the side in the seventh and fanned five of his last six. It was his 10th double-digit strikeout game this season.
Hunter Gaddis and Matt Festa pitched an inning apiece to finish the three-hitter.

A very businesslike win for the Guardians tonight as they beat the Angels 5-2.
The Guardians scored early to give Parker Messick a small lead to work with, which has been rare of late for Cleveland's best pitcher and Cy Young/Rookie of the Year candidate.
Nathaniel "Knows What to Do With RISP" Lowe got a sacrifice fly in the third after a Kwan walk, Jose single and Jo Adell walk. Rocchio had flied out sharply to begin the inning and Angel Genao was putting up an excellent AB when Adell was caught in a rundown that ended with Jose getting tagged out at third.
Messick's only troublesome inning was the fourth where a single from Zach Neto and single from Mike Trout allowed a Moises Ballesteros single to drive in the Angels' only run to tie the game at 1. I am so impressed with how Messick never gets frustrated. He finds his center and gets himself out of trouble over and over.
Another Guardians newcomer got a hit with RISP when Adell got an RBI hit in the fifth to make it 2-1 Guardians.

With one out in the 8th inning of Thursday's afternoon rubber match, Cleveland Guardians center fielder Petey Halpin singled, then got caught leaning by JT Brubaker. The pickoff throw went to Bryce Eldridge, who ran Halpin to Willy Adames, who threw to Osleivis Basabe, who dropped the ball.
Three pitches later, Halpin was at third after Brubaker threw a wild pitch. One pitch after that, he'd scored the final run of Cleveland's 5-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on an RBI single from Brayan Rocchio.
The Giants would make it interesting in the 9th, drawing two walks off closer Cade Smith (32 saves) after being down to their last strike, but Rafael Devers flew out to end the game and send the Giants to their sixth straight series loss, and their 9th road series loss in a row.
The story of the game was, once again, poor Giants defense. Little Leaguers can successfully execute a pickle, but not the Cement Glove keystone duo of Basabe and Willy Adames, who committed his 18th error of the season and also fumbled the exchange on a potential double play.
Cleveland's three-run first-inning rally got a boost from a ground-ball single from Travis Bazzanna that went under Basabe's glove, giving the Guardians first and third with no one out instead of a rally-killing double play. A bloop single and a sacrifice fly made it 2-0, then Adames booted a second double-play ball grom Angel Genao. That opened the door for an RBI single from Patrick "Patty Barrels" Bailey, the first hard-hit ball of the inning off of Landen Roupp (7-13) despite it being a 3-0 game.

CHICAGO (AP) — Munetaka Murakami homered and Tristan Peters and Chase Meidroth each drove in a pair of runs in Chicago's five-run sixth inning as the White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 Saturday, snapping a season-worst four-game skid.
Braden Montgomery singled in a run in the eighth as Chicago (60-56) increased its first-place lead in the AL Central to three games over Cleveland and Minnesota.
Rhys Hoskins had two hits, including a two-run homer. Angel Genao went deep in the seventh and added a single for Cleveland, which has lost four of five.
Anthony Kay (9-5) allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. The left-hander struck out four and walked one in a second straight solid start. Four relievers followed, and Grant Taylor worked around a single in the the ninth for his sixth save.
Gavin Williams allowed two runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walked two.

CLEVELAND — When Angel Genao was a seven-year-old, his brother urged him to become a switch hitter, and the two practiced together in the Dominican Republic.
That was the start of his baseball journey.
"He was the one who insisted on me to be a switch-hitter," Genao said via a team translator. "Actually he was the first one who gave me a baseball practice. So I attribute it to him. … He's been the one teaching me, and who told me to start switch-hitting."
Fifteen years later, that road led Genao to Cleveland, where he made his major league debut. And oh, what a debut it was.
Genao, who was promoted to the majors before the Guardians' Aug. 5 game against the New York Mets in place of the recently designated-for-assignment Gabriel Arias, hit ninth in the lineup and played third base while Jose Ramirez continues to be day-to-day with a hand issue.

Genao was as good as you could expect in his MLB debut, going 4/5 with 4 singles and the (then-) go-ahead RBI in the 7th. He got his first of four consecutive hits on the first pitch he saw in his first MLB at-bat.

Angel Genao delivered an MLB debut to remember for the Cleveland Guardians Wednesday night.
Cleveland's top-rated prospect, Genao was called up for his first MLB game at home against the New York Mets. He logged four straight hits to start his MLB career and knocked in a go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning. He also committed two errors on the same play.
Unfortunately for the Guardians, the lead from his go-ahead knock didn't stand, and the Mets went on to a 6-5 win in extra innings. Genao made a strong first impression regardless of the outcome of the game.
Genao, a shortstop, joined the Guardians as the 39th-ranked prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline. Cleveland called him up in the midst of a heated playoff race and entered Wednesday night in control of the final wild-card spot in the American League.
In his first big-league at-bat, Genao hit a single to right field in the bottom of the third inning. In his second, he hit a leadoff single in the fifth inning and eventually came around to score as the Guardians tied the game at 3-3.

CLEVELAND — The Guardians are planning to call up switch-hitting shortstop Angel Genao from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers on Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to multiple reports.
Genao is ranked 39th on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list. He is the No. 2-ranked prospect in Cleveland's farm system, according to MLB Pipeline, trailing only Ralphy Velazquez.
The 22-year-old Genao's expected promotion was first reported by Yancen Pujols.
Genao has played 72 games with Triple-A Columbus this season, batting .309 with 42 RBIs, 10 home runs, 17 doubles, a triple, nine steals and an .889 OPS.
Genao also spent 24 games with the Double-A Akron RubberDucks this season, hitting .271 with 11 RBIs, three home runs, three doubles, two steals and an .830 OPS.

Columbus jumped out to an early 4-0 lead then held on to preserve the victory Tuesday. Leading the way was Ralphy Velazquez, who snapped out of a short funk by going 2-fo-4 with a massive 415-foot three-run home run in the first inning while also doubling.
In his first game back in Columbus, Daniel Schneemann was perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 with three walks. Cooper Ingle went 2-for-5 and Angel Genao went 1-for-3 with a walk while Kody Huff homered and George Valera doubled.
Starting pitcher Rorik Maltrud danced around four walks to toss 4.1 innings while allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
All three relievers Steven Perez, Carlos Hernandez and Cody Heuer allowed one run in their appearances.
Akron's offense erupted on Tuesday, scoring 12 runs on a whopping 19 hits with everyone getting in on the action.

It was a good day for the Clippers offense. Angel Genao went 2-4 with a walk, Kody Huff went 2-5 with a 430 foot HR. Ralphy Velazquez also had a 3 run HR hit at 109.1 mph off the bat. CJ Kayfus went 1-4 with a HR of his own.
Yorman Gomez continues to rack up strikeouts despite giving up some runs. His ERA is 5.06 but he has 24 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. I think that ERA is going to go down at some point.

This was a dominant win from the RubberDucks. Nick Mitchell had a huge game, going 3-4 with a triple and RBI double. The trio of Chourio, Rosario, and Thompson all had one hit each. Jonah Advincula went 1-3 with a walk and a two run HR. Jose Devers went 1-4 with a 2 RBI triple.

The Columbus Clippers fell to the Louisville Bats in Friday night’s 97°F game time scorcher. Austin Peterson took the mound for Columbus, earning a quality start despite falling to 0-7 on the season with last night’s loss. Peterson threw six complete innings, allowing two run on four hits and striking out five. Jake Miller and Jack Leftwich both pitched scoreless innings with only one base runner allowed (Miller – BB). Trevor Stephan came out to close the game, giving up a run on a solo homer. Stephan gave up four hits in his inning of work.
The Clippers sole run cam in the bottom of the first. Petey Halpin and Angel Genao drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Juan Brito slapped a double on a liner to right, scoring Petey. The Clippers had a few scoring chances through out the game, but did not capitalize on any of them. In the bottom of the second, Milan Tolentino converted a one-out walk into a triple with a stolen second base and taking third on a throwing error. In the bottom of the seventh CJ Kayfus hit a lead off double. In the bottom of the eighth Angel Genao hit a lead off single but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Ralphy Velazquez hit a two out single, followed by Bo Naylor drawing a walk to move Ralphy into scoring position. All runners were left in scoring position.

This game was a wild ride as Columbus fell behind early, rallied late, then erupted for five runs in the 10th inning to turn it into a surprise extra inning blowout.
We have to start with Juan Brito, who had a spectacular game. Brito went 4-for-5 with a walk to reach base safely a whopping five times.
Milan Tolentino also was terrific, going 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. Angel Genao doubled and walked while Petey Halpin had two hits and a stolen base and CJ Kayfus went 2-for-4 with an RBI before being pulled late in the game.
Starting pitcher Rorik Maltrud allowed two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
