EASTON -- The Oliver Ames High football team's defense is off to a flying start.
The Tigers allowed a one-play touchdown drive in the fourth quarter but otherwise clamped down on Archbishop Williams to post a 14-6 season-opening win on Thursday, Sept. 10.
"We got the defense together," said senior cornerback/running back Desahn Walker. "We kept on putting our foot on the (gas) pedal and got it done."
Walker got it done on both sides of the ball as he ripped off a 60-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to extend the Tigers' lead to 14-0 with 5:59 remaining.
That score gave OA the cushion it needed to withstand its one defensive wobble. On the ensuing play from scrimmage, Archbishop Williams quarterback Thomas Prifti went up top and hit Michael Boyle with a 66-yard TD bomb down the left sideline just 19 seconds after Walker's TD.

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off an incredible come from behind victory in the NFL's season opener. Seattle beat New England 13-10 thanks in part to an incredible 45-yard touchdown from Jaxon Smith-Njigba. One detail about that play shows just how clutch the play really was.
Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock revealed that JSN's touchdown catch was not a play they ran in practice.
"It is like a classic football play," Lock said on Thursday per John Boyle of Seahawks.com "But, no. No, definitely never ran it. Looked kind of funny before the snap. I didn't really seem like they had anybody ready to match Jaxon based on what I knew we were about it run. He's the third read in that play, and when 11 is just standing there, you got to give him the pill."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Gavin Garcia rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns as The Citadel beat Charlotte 43-41 in triple overtime on Saturday in the 49ers' season opener, following a 1-hour and 15-minute delay due to severe weather.
Garcia scored on runs of 2 and 1 yards in regulation before breaking a 25-yard touchdown run on the Bulldogs' first overtime possession.
Nick Billoups added 38 yards and two touchdowns, and Sebastien Boyle had 70 yards and a score as the Bulldogs rushed for 268 yards and six touchdowns combined.
Charlotte tied the game at 28 with 24 seconds remaining after Cole Gonzales found Jaylen Hampton for a 6-yard touchdown.
Each team scored a touchdown in the first two overtimes, with Nick Billoups' 2-yard run pulling The Citadel even at 41 in the second. Both teams failed on their respective conversion attempts.

Madison Fitzpatrick will serve as the ACC Network's primetime college football sideline reporter this season, rounding out the booth alongside play-by-play voice Wes Durham and ***** yst Max Browne, Awful Announcing has learned.
Front Office Sports first reported the ACC Network lead broadcast pairing back in June, confirming Durham and Browne atop the primetime booth, Durham's fourth different primetime ***** yst in as many seasons after cycling through Roddy Jones and Eric Wood at the network's 2019 launch, then Tim Hasselbeck and Taylor Tannebaum, then Tom Luginbill and Dana Boyle in 2024, then former Boston College coach Steve Addazio last season. Browne, meanwhile, moves up from ESPN's secondary ACC Network booth, where he called games alongside Chris Cotter and Kendra Douglas in 2025.
Fitzpatrick wasn't part of that announcement at the time because her contract hadn't been finalized yet.
The sideline opening exists in part because of a broader shuffle elsewhere in ESPN's college football booths. Dana Boyle, who had worked ACC Network primetime games alongside Durham in 2024, moved into a new role calling ESPN's Friday night package alongside play-by-play voice Mike Monaco and ***** yst Jordan Rodgers, part of the same round of moves that also sent Rodgers off SEC Network's longtime top booth and into an expanded role with ESPN and ABC.
Fitzpatrick joined ESPN in 2023 as a volleyball ***** yst and sideline reporter after a standout career at Florida State, where she served as a captain of the Seminoles' beach volleyball team. She previously worked as a sports anchor at Fox16 in Little Rock, AR, before joining the network.

Masai Ujiri has a proven eye for wings. The Mavericks' team president has spent his career identifying and developing players 6-foot-6 and above, a skill that has followed him from Toronto to Dallas.
In Toronto, he helped the team find Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Scottie Barnes and Collin Murray-Boyles. He also traded for the likes of Kawhi Leonard, who helped the Raptors win their only championship in franchise history. All those players have similar physical traits that make them the prototypical two-way wing player that NBA franchises covet in a pace-and-space league.
So when the Mavericks announced that Ujiri and the rest of the front office decided to extend wing Naji Marshall, it shouldn't have surprised anyone.
Marshall has signed a three-year, $52.2 million contract extension, sources told DLLS Sports' Marc Stein on Sunday. The deal follows a three-year, $27 million free agent contract the Mavericks gave Marshall in 2024.
The extension will start at $18.2 million in 2027-28 and decline over the following two seasons to $17.3 million in 2028-29 and $16.7 million in 2029-30, sources told Stein.

Harry Kane's future has occasionally been the subject of speculation, with rumors linking him to a potential return to the Premier League or even a move elsewhere in Europe. However, after a sensational campaign with Bayern Munich that saw him lift major trophies, put together one of the greatest goal-scoring seasons in modern football, and firmly establish himself in the Ballon d'Or conversation, there appears to be little reason for the England captain to consider leaving. Former Chelsea ****** istant manager Jody Morris believes Kane is exactly where he should be and made a compelling case for both his future in Munich and his Ballon d'Or credentials.
"I don't see why Harry Kane would want to move. Bayern Munich is an amazing football club. He is in Ballon d'Or conversations while winning trophies. Unless he wanted a new family experience in Spain or wanted to come back to break the Premier League record, those would be the only things to pull him away," Morris told BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest football odds. "The level he performed at last year for Bayern was phenomenal. He never quite hit that same level in the World Cup, although his goal tally was decent. Vincent Kompany has been a great fit for him."
Morris raises valid points. Kane finally achieved what had eluded him for so much of his career by winning major silverware while continuing to produce elite individual numbers. Bayern Munich has given him a platform to compete for every trophy each season, and Kompany's attacking style has allowed Kane to thrive as both a scorer and creator. Unless Kane is motivated by personal milestones such as breaking the Premier League's all-time scoring record or experiencing a different league, there is little sporting incentive to leave.
Morris also believes Kane deserves football's highest individual honor.
"In my opinion, he should win the Ballon d'Or. He had the second-best goal-scoring season in history," said Morris. "How do you not win the Ballon d'Or with those numbers while winning trophies and going deep in a tournament with England?"

Michael Olise's meteoric rise has transformed him from one of Europe's most exciting young wingers into a player that virtually every elite club would love to have. After a spectacular season with Bayern Munich, the French international has become a regular feature in Ballon d'Or discussions and is widely regarded as one of the most entertaining players in world football. His blend of creativity, vision, close control, and end product makes him one of the rare players capable of deciding matches with a single moment of brilliance. Under Vincent Kompany, Olise has flourished into the centerpiece of Bayern Munich's attack while continuing to improve every aspect of his game.
Morris also poured cold water on any suggestion that Chelsea could realistically lure Olise back to England.
"Chelsea would need to make unbelievable strides to even be in the conversation for a player like Michael Olise. We tried to get him from Palace before, and not getting him is what led us to signing Cole Palmer. Michael Olise plays in any World XI for me right now. The signing of Eden Hazard at the time was huge, and he went on to be a great," Morris said. "For me, Hazard is the greatest individual player to ever play for Chelsea in terms of talent, though he's third on the overall list behind John Terry and Frank Lampard. Olise is the closest we would get to someone who can entertain the Stamford Bridge crowd while also producing numbers. He has a great balance of being great to watch with flair, but he doesn't shirk his production in the final third. He still manages goals and ****** ists while floating around the pitch. He is a phenomenal player."

DENVER (AP) — The name of Boston Celtics guardDerrick White surfaced on draft night. Not as part of a trade or anything, just for taking on a new **** le with a familiar school.
White was announced Tuesday as the president of basketball strategy for his alma mater, Colorado. When he's not shooting jumpers for the Celtics, he will **** ist head coach Tad Boyle in mentoring and inspiring future Buffaloes players.
In addition, White, who turns 32 on July 2, and his family are donating $2 million to the men's basketball program. It's simply the latest **** le to add to his list that already includes NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist.
"Everything happens for a reason," White said in a video posted on the team's social media account. "I was where I was supposed to be."
White averaged 18.1 points and 4.4 **** ists in 2016-17 — his one and only season with the Buffaloes. He earned honors such as Pac-12 all-conference first team, all-defensive team and all-tournament squad. He was also the team's MVP.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared an emergency Saturday to ensure the city gets the resources it needs to fight a large warehouse fire that has sent large plumes of smoke into the air.
"The city and county have opened ***** es for families seeking relief from the smoke, and we will continue working around the clock and doing everything possible to put this fire out completely," Bass said in a news release announcing the emergency declaration.
The fire at a privately owned cold-storage warehouse in the city's Boyle Heights neighborhood started Wednesday, prompting shelter-in-place orders in the area because of the risk of hazardous air. Residents were told to close all windows, doors and vents, turn off air conditioning and bring people and pets to an inside room.
Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Jaime Moore said in a news conference that they have taken care of the hazardous materials portion of the blaze and now they are working on the biohazard challenges.
"We have 85 million pounds of frozen food inside of this facility and the way the building has been laid out, it's very difficult for us to get in there because there's zero visibility inside," Moore said. "Our firefighters are not able to just go in there and start moving pallets."

Colorado basketball unveiled its official 2026-27 roster late last week.
The release follows a busy offseason of turnover. The program bid farewell to several key players, including star point guard Isaiah Johnson and starting forwards Bangot Dak and Sebastian Rancik. Role players Felix Kossaras, Alon Michaeli and Andrew Crawford also departed the program.
As a result, the program returns just four major contributions from its 2025-26 rotation: guards Barrington Hargress, Ian Inman, Josiah Sanders and Jalin Holland. Hargress is a surefire starter and the Buffs' leader, while the other three returning guards will likely battle it out for one other starting spot and the top two spots off the bench. However, CU was in desperate need of size and athleticism, hoping its transfer portal additions would provide that element.
Colorado and Tad Boyle complemented Hargress in the starting lineup with former North Dakota center Noah Feddersen, UNC Greensboro forward Justin Neely, and forward David Gomez, to go along with a seven-player freshman class.

Firefighters are responding to a major commercial building fire in Boyle Heights, California. The Los Angeles Police Department has implemented a city-wide tactical alert and is advising nearby residents to shelter-in-place.

Captain Rachael Boyle has signed a one-year contract extension to remain with Hibs for next season.
The 34-year-old former Scotland midfielder, who joined Hibs a decade ago, returned from several injury setbacks to make 23 appearances last season as Joelle Murray's side finished fourth in the SWPL.
"I'm absolutely delighted to extend my stay, I've had a lot of success, but I've also had to go through some tough times along the way, but with this club the positives always outweigh the negatives," said Boyle.
"After finishing last season strong, I am looking forward to getting back together with this group and building towards the aim of consistently competing at the top end of women's football in Scotland."
Head coach Murray added: "Rachael is a huge ****** et and has consistently proven that year after year, and again this season since returning from a lengthy injury setback, by leading the team to a strong SWPL finish."
