The Campbell's Company cut 13% of its salaried workforce as part of a plan to slash $500 million in costs by 2030, with CEO Mick Beekhuizen saying the company needs to take "decisive action" to improve performance.
The packaged food maker is also closing two snack plants as it aims to protect margins and support higher levels of investment. Campbell's added it will cut its quarterly dividend by 36% to generate savings that will be directed to other parts of its business.
The announcement comes as Campbell's posted a loss during its fourth quarter, with sales slipping 8% to $2.14 billion. Sales in its snacks business, which includes Goldfish and Pepperidge Farm, plunged 12% during the period. In meals and beverages, home to Rao's, V8 and its iconic soups, sales dipped 4%.
As consumers continue to rein in their spending, food companies are feeling the heat. Beekhuizen said cost cuts at Campbell's are necessary to support greater investment in brands to position them for success.

Busy Philipps has ex-husband Marc Silverstein and late friend James Van Der Beek to thank for the discovery of her rare brain tumor.
Philipps, 47, is "grateful" to be alive after doctors found a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, a rare type of brain cancer, during the actress' voluntary full-body scan in February.
Mega
The White Chicks star told People in a Wednesday, August 26, interview that she had originally scheduled the procedure for January, but was forced to postpone due to a blizzard in New York City. Her rescheduled appointment, however, was set for February 12 — just one day after her beloved Dawson's Creek costar Van Der Beek died after a battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
"Should I just cancel it?" she recalled asking Silverstein, 55, with whom she shares daughters Birdie, 18, and Cricket, 13. "He's like, 'Maybe it's the best thing you could do for your friend this morning. Go get that scan.'"

Busy Philipps is grateful to be alive after spending six months battling a brain tumor.
Talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Philipps revealed that she learned about her grade 2 oligodendroglioma – a rare and slow-moving tumor – right as she booked her upcoming role on "Cupertino." She called the experience "the weirdest six months of my life."
"I'm grateful that I'm alive," she said.
The tumor was discovered after Philipps did a Prenuvo MRI scan. She did it despite her doctors saying it wasn't needed because she was young and did not have any symptoms but she felt the need to do it anyway.
The day before the scan was scheduled, Philipps' friend and former "Dawson's Creek" co-star James Van Der Beek lost his battle with cancer and the day after the scan she was set to meet with "Cupertino" creators Michelle and Robert King. She wondered if because of all that if she should just cancel the scan but a conversation with her ex-husband Marc Silverstein convinced her to stick it out.

A series loss in Cincinnati and yet another injury blow will not deter the Pirates from buying at the trade deadline.
Despite falling a game below .500, the Pirates are looking to add more pieces to their roster ahead of the 6 p.m. ET buzzer, a source familiar with the situation told Pittsburgh Baseball Now.
The Pirates made a notable move on Saturday, when they acquired right-handed reliever Camilo Doval from the Yankees for a pair of prospects. Among the other additions Pittsburgh has made so far this month are infielder Jacob Gonzalez, left-hander Brandon Eisert and right-hander Ron Marinaccio. But it's not yet enough.
This is the second time general manager Ben Cherington has been looking to add pieces at the deadline and not subtract. The other was in 2024, and if the Pirates want to be serious contenders, they can't repeat what they did two years ago.
That year, the Pirates were teetering between buying and selling but entered the deadline a couple games over .500. To bolster its roster, Pittsburgh acquired infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Blue Jays, outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from the Marlins and left-handed reliever Jalen Beeks from the Rockies.

Where are they now?
Exiled, without a contract, or without playing time... we've listed a few names who have fallen off the radar in recent months.
After a first episode, where we mentioned Benjamin Bourigeaud, Juan Bernat, and Renato Sanches.
We followed up with a second installment, where we checked in on Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek, and Layvin Kurzawa.
Here is our final top 10, with of course players struggling at their clubs, like Euro 2021 champion Federico Chiesa.

The Anaheim Ducks have matched the Philadelphia Flyers' five-year, $90 million offer sheet to Leo Carlsson, keeping the rising star and creating a little bit of a cap squeeze for the team.
The $18 million average annual value on the offer sheet makes Carlsson, 21, the highest-paid player in the NHL, passing the $17 million for Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov. The Flyers would have owed the Ducks four first-round picks if they had not matched.
With the match and the recent re-signing of defensemen Pavel Mintyukov and Tyson Hinds, the Ducks have about $9 million in remaining cap ***** e according to puckpedia.com
Cutter Gauthier, the team's leading scorer, still has to sign and that cap ***** e might not be enough after a 41-goal season. The Ducks' defense also could use an upgrade. That means general manager Pat Verbeek might have to trade a veteran or two to be cap-compliant.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Anaheim Ducks have matched the Philadelphia Flyers' offer sheet for center Leo Carlsson, keeping their rising young star at an extraordinary cost.
The Ducks announced their decision Thursday on the 21-year-old Carlsson, who is now the NHL's highest-paid player under the five-year, $90 million deal extended by the Flyers one week ago.
Carlsson signed the Flyers' offer sheet as a restricted free agent after a year of fruitless negotiations with Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek, whose typical hardline approach in contract talks with his restricted free agents backfired tremendously this time.
Carlsson's new contract is worth much more than the league expected he would get as a restricted free agent, and the $18 million average annual value is significantly more than he had already indicated he would accept. The deal surpasses the salary of Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov, who would have been the NHL's highest-paid player at $17 million.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Defenseman Pavel Mintyukov has agreed to five-year contract extension worth $36 million with the Anaheim Ducks, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The ****** ociated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the Ducks didn’t announce the financial terms of their deal through the 2030-31 season with the 22-year-old Mintyukov. The promising Russian blueliner was a restricted free agent this summer after recording 17 goals and 52 ****** ists over 204 games in his first three NHL seasons.
The Ducks belatedly got this pricier-than-expected deal done with one of their most important young players only two days after they blundered into a precarious situation with their cornerstone center.
Leo Carlsson signed a five-year, $90 million offer sheet with Philadelphia last Friday, which means the 21-year-old Swede is likely to be the NHL’s highest-paid player next season for the Flyers or for the Ducks, who can match the offer or receive four first-round draft picks as compensation. Anaheim must decide by Friday.
Either way, the development is a public embarrassment for Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek, whose antagonistic, foot-dragging attitude in negotiations with his young core finally cost him dearly.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers swapped right-handed relievers on the 15-day injured list on Saturday, placing Jakob Junis on the IL with a right hip impingement and activating 40-year-old Chris Martin after his second stint out because of a right shoulder issue.
Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young also said left-handed reliever Jalen Beeks would have season-ending surgery for a flexor tendon strain. Beeks was close to being activated from the IL after being out since June 10 with lower back spasms when he started having elbow soreness during his rehab.
Junis has been one of the team's most reliable relievers, going 1-1 with five saves and a 2.80 ERA over 35 1/3 innings in 31 appearances. Young expressed hope that Junis would be out for only the 15-day period.
Martin, who is 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA in 12 games this season, missed 31 games from mid-April to mid-May and then 30 more games that included all of June because of a right shoulder impingement. Beeks was 2-1 with a 3.81 ERA in 29 appearances.
The shuffling of relievers came on the same day that right-handed starter Jack Leiter said he felt good in his recovery and hoped to pitch again this season after arthroscopic surgery June 23 to remove an extra but unneeded bone from behind his right ankle bone.

The Texas Rangers have placed reliever Jakob Junis on the injured list due to a hip impingement, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have activated reliever Chris Martin from the 15 day injured list.
In addition, the Rangers announced that Jalen Beeks has a strained flexor tendon in his elbow and will undergo season-ending surgery to repair that.
So more problems for the Rangers bullpen. Beeks, who was one of the myriad of relievers signed to one year deals this offseason, had a 3.81 ERA in 26 innings over 29 games before landing on the injured list in mid-June. The Rangers will not be getting him back, which puts the Ranger bullpen in an even more precarious position over the final half of the season, especially with Robert Garcia, the Rangers’ other setup/middle relief lefty, currently on the 60 day injured list.
Junis has been the primary setup guy for the Rangers for most of the season, although he’s allowed runs in three of his last four outings. The beat writers are reporting that Junis is expected to return after the minimum time on the injured list, which would have him back after the All Star Break.
Replacing Junis on the active roster is Chris Martin. The veteran righthander has had a pair of stints on the i.l. so far this season, and hasn’t been particularly effective when he’s been healthy, putting up a 7.84 ERA and 6.40 FIP in 10.1 innings over 12 appearances.

Millions of honeybees escaped into a rural Texas neighborhood after a semitrailer carrying about 400 hives tipped over, officials said.
Emergency officials in Orange County, Texas, shut down roads in the area Sunday morning and warned residents to stay in their homes while crews worked to unload the trailer and salvage as many hives as possible. The county is located east of Houston and borders Louisiana.
No bee stings or serious injuries were immediately reported. Officials haven't identified the owner of the hives.
Christie Ray, who owns nearby Queen Bee Supply, said volunteers from three or four other beekeeping businesses in the area went to the crash scene Sunday to help.
"They just help each other, that's what they do," Ray said. "The beekeeping community is a great community."
