Nicole Kidman joined Sandra Bullock for the Practical Magic 2 London photocall, held inside the Ballroom at Claridge's this morning.
Kate Green/Getty Images
Wearing her second Chanel look of the press tour, Nicole kept things considerably simpler in this black LBD.
The pearl straps are the defining detail, and one that immediately connects the dress to the house. Pearls have been part of the Chanel vocabulary since Coco Chanel began layering ropes of faux pearls with her clothes in the 1920s, and they remain one of the label's most recognisable signatures. Here, they give an otherwise straightforward black dress its Chanel identity.
And then we come to the shoes. You know Chanel footwear and I don't always see eye to eye, but I have no complaints about these two-tone slingbacks as they give the simple LBD the graphic punch it needed.

Sandra Bullock was back for the Practical Magic 2 London photocall, held inside the Ballroom at Claridge's—a wise decision considering the rain in the capital this morning.

You weren't as sold as I was on her leopard-print Givenchy look. Sandra may have a mild-mannered demeanour, but she has never been afraid to make a bold and big statement. Are we forgetting The Lost City London premiere, its Los Angeles premiere, the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards or the Ocean's 8 world premiere?
Those who weren't convinced by the leopard print will probably prefer this Erdem Resort 2027 look. The black blazer, white asymmetric skirt and lace detailing offer a softer route into the film's witchy world, with the dark romanticism coming through the monochrome palette and black lace.
I love how the lace breaks up the monochrome layers, while the white neck scarf adds another point of interest. Smart but not overly formal, this is more subdued than her premiere look.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Instead of adding new roses, President Donald Trump's White House Rose Garden is growing statues.
Trump put statues of some of America's founders in the garden just off the Oval Office after he replaced its plush lawn with a white stone patio, turning the historic outdoor **** e into a look-alike of the one at his Mar-a-Lago home and private club in Palm Beach, Florida.
At least one statue was a gift. Others are on loan from people who wish to remain anonymous.
The latest addition, a bronze depiction of a seated Thomas Jefferson signing the Declaration of Independence, was a gift from George Lundeen, a sculptor from Loveland, Colorado. It joins statues already displayed there of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Ben Franklin. A fifth sculpture named "Freedom's Charge" is also on the patio.
The statues are part of Trump's sweeping series of White House renovations, from his gilded makeover of the Oval Office to the ballroom and helipad that the Republican president is having built on the south grounds. These projects fit into Trump's broader plan to leave his mark on downtown Washington through other construction projects, including a statue garden on federal land near the National Mall.

The Houston Texans have plenty of food and drink options for the 70,000-plus fans that will be at each of their home games at Reliant Stadium, but very few will get to experience the luxury of the stadium's new exclusive area just steps away from the field.
Similar to what the Astros offer with the Diamond Club or the Rockets with their Lexus Lounge, the Texans are introducing the BMW Lone Star Ballroom and BMW M Club Blue.
The Texans took what was a storage area in the bowels of the stadium and turned it into a swanky lounge located at field level, below the stands, with a window looking out to the tunnel where the visiting team will run out onto the field before games.
That kind of access to the field and players is something that has been missing from the only building the Houston Texans have known since they began play in 2002.
"It's real important to us when we talk about delivering a world-class fan experience that we understand what other venues, other buildings are doing, not only in the state, not only in the country, but worldwide," Houston Texans team president Mike Tomon said. "I think we have seen a lot more segmentation to the different markets, meaning, do you have a unique experience for a certain type of fan? So, we see that as a trend and we see the want to get closer to the team and the game element as a trend as well."

NASHVILLE – The biggest ballroom in this downtown Nashville hotel is overflowing — standing-room-only — and College Football Hall-of-Famer Mack Brown is holding court.
Brown — the last coach to win a national championship at Texas and North Carolina's winningest coach — is explaining why fifth place beats second.
On the talent-acquisition trail, that is.
At this moment, he's the champagne cork to the seventh annual Personnel and Recruiting Symposium — a 48-hour event spanning parts of three days. For 1,600 staffers from 160 schools it's the networking equivalent of the NCAA transfer portal they navigate and the social equivalent of the record-label parties that dot this city during Country Music's awards season.
"I've been doing this 50 years; they've been doing it (the recruiting process) six months," Brown tells the crowd. "And so many times, people in this room or ******* istant coaches didn't want to ask hard questions because you are afraid you'll get the wrong answer. I wanted to get an answer. I'd a lot rather be fifth than second. If you are second, you lose the next two, so I either wanted to get him or get out.

The Cheesecake Factory, along with a group of sit-down restaurant stocks including Texas Roadhouse and BJ's Restaurants, have seen a median gain of about 62% over the past three months, according to recent data from Yahoo Finance. The news outlet also reported that the 62-point gap was "wider than anything seen from 2016 through 2025," and comes as stocks from popular fast-casual chains like Chipotle, Wingstop, and Shake Shack have, in comparison, stayed put.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump announced Sunday that his new White House counsel will be Will Scharf, the staff secretary who as the Trump-appointed head of the National Capital Planning Commission helped secure approval for the $400 million ballroom project.
Trump said that, beginning Sept. 1, Scharf will be replacing David Warrington, who will be leaving the administration to join the private sector. Trump noted that Scharf previously served as a federal prosecutor and represented him in a number of cases, including at the Supreme Court.
"Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!"
The shakeup in the White House counsel's office comes at a critical juncture — just months ahead of the midterm elections, where Trump's Republican Party will be fighting to hold on to control of Congress. Democrats have vowed to pursue investigations into Trump and his administration if they are successful in November.
The White House counsel's job is to advise on legal and policy questions related to the presidency. The office is the primary White House contact for the Justice Department, and it handles presidential pardons, works on judicial appointments and reviews legislation. The office also helps investigate and manage congressional investigations into the administration and lawsuits against the president when he is sued in his official capacity.

King Charles is preparing to briefly step away from public life for his annual break at the family's long-time "cherished" Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle.
As the royal family get ready to retreat to the 50,000-acre estate in Aberdeenshire for the summer, the grounds will no longer be accessible to the public. Balmoral Castle's official website states that visitors are welcome to the grounds, gardens and exhibitions from 28 March to 9 August, after which it will shut its gates ahead of the royal family's arrival.
"The grounds, gardens, Mews Gift Shop, Restaurant and Ballroom Exhibition are now open daily until Sunday 9th August," the notice reads. From 10 August, the estate will remain temporarily closed to visitors for the duration of the summer. The grounds are expected to reopen for the autumn season from early October.

General admission to the public includes access to the Castle Ballroom where visitors can view the year's exhibition. "You will be able to enjoy some of the walks around the grounds and have an opportunity to visit the Mews Gift Shop and the Restaurant," the estate website reads.

MINNEAPOLIS — Five years isn't supposed to go by this fast.
As I sat in the press conference room at U.S. Bank Stadium after Night 1 of WWE SummerSlam, watching Paul "Triple H" Levesque answer questions following one of the biggest shows of the year, I couldn't help but think back to another room, another SummerSlam week and another conversation.
It wasn't an arena.
It wasn't a stadium.
It was a ballroom inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas during the summer of 2021.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a $22.5 billion renovation of Washington Dulles International Airport that will end the use of the widely disliked "people movers," the mobile lounges that have been used for decades to shuttle travelers to and from the main terminal.
In place of the people movers, the airport will add a new U-shaped passenger train, a central walking tunnel, more moving walkways and new concourses. An above-ground parking garage closer to the main terminal with ****** e for 32,000 vehicles is also in the offing, according to Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The airport makeover would add to a long list of renovation projects the Republican president is pursuing to leave a lasting mark on the Washington region after his term ends in January 2029. Among other undertakings, he is building a new White House ballroom and wants to build a towering triumphal arch near the Lincoln Memorial.
But of all the construction projects Trump is pursuing, the renovations at Dulles could prove to be his most popular and benefit the greatest number of people. The airport, the area's primary international airport, served roughly 29 million passengers over the past year, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
"This transformation is another step in our ongoing efforts to make Washington, D.C., safe and beautiful again," Trump said. "We're doing something with Dulles that's going to make it the top anywhere in the world."

Every July, the Southeastern Conference herds its head coaches into one ballroom and asks each of them, politely, to explain why their corner of the sport deserves belief again this fall. Most arrive with the hedge built in careful qualifiers, a nod to "the process," nothing November could hold against them. Will Stein, thirty-six years old and the owner of a perfect, undefeated, entirely theoretical 0-0 record as a head coach, didn't bother with the hedge.
Asked why the Kentucky Wildcats — five wins last season, four the year before, without a top-50 offense to its name since 2021 — should expect anything different under him, Stein let the question sit in the room a beat longer than comfortable.
"This is going to sound like really... I think because of me, to be honest," he said. "I think it's because of me. I think I know what it takes. I have seen it at the highest levels. I know what it takes to recruit at this level."
It's the kind of answer that gets replayed for one of two reasons: the coach is a fool, or he's right. The comparison in the room was instant: Curt Cignetti, who once told Indiana fans, in essence, to go look him up, then backed it with a national ******* le game and a Heisman winner. Stein doesn't have any of that yet. What he has is three seasons running one of the sport's most explosive offenses at Oregon, a 38-5 record, a Big Ten championship, a College Football Playoff berth, and, as of Monday afternoon in Tampa, the undivided attention of a fanbase that has waited a decade for someone to say something worth remembering.
He knows how thin the line is between confidence and delusion, so he built the escape hatch in the same breath. "Is it going to happen overnight? I don't know. I really don't. If I had a crystal ball, everybody in this room would be really, really rich now," he said. "There's going to be ******* ps in the road. I am prepared for tough moments and tough times. I'm succumbed to that in our process, right? I already do self-talk myself about how I can stay neutral. When stuff is bad, I can stay as neutral as possible and be very diplomatic in my approach."

Princess Diana's White House dance with John Travolta reportedly became a famous photograph. The People's Princess was 24 when she spun with the Hollywood star at Reagan's 1985 state dinner. A new source revisited the night and claimed the connection lasted beyond the ballroom. The report pointed to her love of dance. It also included claims that she later corresponded with him from Britain. That frame made the dance feel like a longer story.
According to a RadarOnline report, the dance took place at the White House in 1985. The dinner was hosted by President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. Guests included Clint Eastwood, Tom Selleck, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Travolta.
The actor had become famous through "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease." Travolta later called the moment "a highlight of being in the United States." He also said it was Diana's "favorite moment," according to the report.
Meanwhile, Travolta said the dance was arranged quietly by Nancy Reagan. He recalled being told the princess wanted to dance, but he had to lead. Travolta said, "At midnight, I had to tap her on the shoulder."
He then asked, "Would you care to dance?" The actor said she dipped her head "in that Lady Diana way." Then, "we were off for 15 minutes dancing." He later described it as "like a dream."

The Los Angeles Lakers have settled in for the upcoming NBA Summer League series in Las Vegas.
The Lakers have set up a new custom-designed practice court in a ballroom and were seen by reporters practicing on it Thursday, July 9.
The Lakers had played on a custom court during the NBA Cup, but it was met with some negative feedback from players. Lakers star Luka Doncic in particular had an issue with the court, slipping on it during the team's 135-118 victory over the L.A. Clippers on Nov. 25, 2025.
"It's just slippery. It's dangerous," Doncic said. "I slipped. I slipped a lot, and you could see many players slip. And that's dangerous."
The NBA provided an alternate court for each team in the league as a promotional tool for this past season's tournament games.

WASHINGTON, June 6 (Reuters) - Donald Trump is facing widening opposition within his own party as Republican lawmakers in Congress, long reluctant to defy him, are showing a greater willingness to break ranks with the U.S. president.
Just over the past week, multiple factions ‌of Republicans in the Senate and House of Representatives have stepped forward to rebuke his war against Iran, reject $1 billion in funding tied to his White House ballroom, force a ‌retreat on his $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund and block his legislation on domestic spying.
The House also defied Trump by passing a bill on Thursday to provide aid to Ukraine and impose new sanctions on Russia, a measure that seems destined for a veto by the president.
Republicans and Democrats are skeptical that Trump faces an actual revolt. But a growing coalition of Republicans is showing a willingness to break with him, including those Trump has personally helped to drum out of office, and could pose a threat to his most ambitious initiatives between now and Election Day.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dozens of mayors and other city leaders gathered in the ballroom of a Washington hotel on a snowy January morning this year gripped by anger and anxiety about the federal government's increasingly aggressive immigration enforcement operation that included the killings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis.
And then FIFA President Gianni Infantino took the stage.
“For the first time in 250 years of history of the United States of America, well, you will not just be invaded but you will be conquered,” he said as the audience at the National Conference of Mayors largely reacted with silence.
“You will be conquered by soccer,” he added in an attempt to land the joke and get the crowd energized about the World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the U.S., Mexico and Canada from Thursday through July 19.
Ahead of the tournament, Infantino has successfully cozied up to President Donald Trump, creating a peace prize that was awarded to him and frequently visiting the White House, including a stop last week, when he was photographed alongside the Republican president admiring changes outside the Oval Office.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Far from tango's birthplace in working-class districts and port areas of Buenos Aires and Montevideo in Argentina and Uruguay, dance enthusiasts in Istanbul have built a close-knit and passionate community.
Every night, they gather at milongas — sessions of Argentine ballroom dancing — on both sides of this vast city that bridges Europe and Asia, drawn together by music, movement and the embrace of tango.
Turkish locals, foreign residents, visiting international teachers and travelers keep the dance alive while a multitude of dance schools and studios foster a vibrant tango scene.
Once a beginner and now a tango teacher, Gonca Çetin describes the city's tango community as both diverse and welcoming.
“It’s possible for everyone to find a tango environment that suits them. There’s a constantly growing and developing community,” she says.
