A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll asked Utahns what concerns, if any, they have about college sports today. It presented several choices.
The survey found 20% concerned about athletes being paid through NIL and revenue sharing; 17% about the rising cost to attend games; 14% about athletes transferring too frequently and 5% about conference realignment. Another 11% said they didn't know.

Former Miss North Carolina USA Brittany Boltinhouse filed a defamation lawsuit against pageant organizers after the Miss USA organization stripped her of her **** le earlier this month, alleging they tried to portray her as a racist and targeted her because she is a "conservative Christian."
While the Aug. 5 announcement of the decision from Miss USA Chairman and CEO Thom Brodeur did not specify the conduct Boltinhouse was alleged to have committed, the statement said in part that the organization "does not tolerate racism, **** phobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity."
The suit, filed Sunday in Duplin County, North Carolina, Superior Court, alleges that the pageant organizers were "maliciously coordinating to publish a false public narrative portraying Brittany Boltinhouse as a racist, **** phobe, transphobe and intolerable bigot to be shunned from public life," largely based on social media posts.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Juventus striker Jonathan David, with reports from Ekrem Konur suggesting the Italian club could accept £30.07m-£33.74m for the 26-year-old. President Donald Trump signed a memo Thursday directing federal agencies to dramatically ramp up commercial rocket activity, setting a target of at least 1,000 launches and re-entries annually by 2030, according to Reuters.
Last year's total sat at 178 launches — already 10 times the 2013 figure. Reaching 1,000 would mean roughly a fivefold jump from current levels.
The memo directs agencies to look at federal land for new launch and re-entry sites, and calls for a new federal re-entry site to be identified within 90 days. Officials are also told to expedite permitting, speed up environmental reviews and secure adequate wireless spectrum for launches, per Reuters.

There's just one small problem: revenues tend to fall dramatically after a drug loses patent protections. Complicating this is that developing new drugs doesn't follow a set timeline, unlike patent expirations. So sometimes there's a mismatch that puts pressure on a company's top and bottom lines.

It doesn't help any that the company suffered a material black eye when it had to drop its internally developed GLP-1 weight-loss drug candidate in 2025.

Today was the much-anticipated debut of Mariners pitching prospect Kade Anderson, but it was a more familiar face who stole the show. Randy Arozarena bookeneded the game with a pair of homers, peppering in a dramatic home run robbery and a clutch infield single, to deliver the Mariners an improbable 5-4 win, meanwhile racking up one of the highest WPAs I've ever seen for a position player in a single game: 1.08. It's not Brandon Crawford's seven-hit game from 2016, but it's gotta be up there. Arozarena, in his free agency year, is having his best season by wRC+ as a big-league regular: 138 before today's game is factored in. He's been the most valuable Mariner in 2026 offensively, and has contributed to more than his fair share of wins while the rest of the team has struggled through injury and doldrums. He's also been the author of more than his fair share of miscues, some outfield defense that at times looks indifferent, and an occasional inattention (like missing the team photo) that makes you wonder what planet Randy is living on.
The answer: Planet Randy. It's Randy's planet. And like Taylor Swift, he makes the rules. Today, Randy decided to orbit himself directly in front of what looked like a surefire Cubs win, repelling Chicago and their hefty dose of fans packed into a sellout crowd at T-Mobile Park and instead delivering the Mariners a series win. It might have been Kade Anderson **** p Day, but it was Randy Arozarena Precession Day (this is a science term that my science friend says means when a planet **** ps how it spins on its axis. I am **** ured the joke works.).
Kade Anderson was as advertised in the first inning, living around the strike zone and challenging hitters. He got his first big-league out on his first big-league pitch, tempting Pete Crow-Armstrong into making weak contact on a well-located heater for an easy pop out. He struggled a little after that with locating the curve, and got into a long battle with Alex Bregman before getting him to chase after a changeup for his first big-league strikeout:

With the warm-up act out of the way, it was time for Planet Randy to take the stage. Arozarena gave his rookie pitcher some run support right away, jumping on the first pitch he saw from lefty David Peterson and driving it into a packed T-Mobile 'Pen: 105.3 mph and 416 feet for Randy's 18th on the season.

The Boston Red Sox were down to their final three outs Saturday night. They also had not scored a run. That somehow did not stop them from delivering one of their most dramatic wins of the season.
Boston scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning to stun the San Francisco Giants, 3-2, at Fenway Park. Wilyer Abreu completed the comeback by putting the ball in play with the bases loaded, allowing Evan White to race home with the winning run. It was an unlikely finish for Abreu, who had struck out in each of his first four plate appearances. Faced with one more opportunity, he battled through a seven-pitch at-bat and hit a ground ball toward first base.
Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge attempted to get the force out at home, but his throw was off line. White scored safely, setting off a celebration near home plate and giving Boston its second consecutive win over San Francisco. The win improved the Red Sox to 70-59 overall and 33-32 at Fenway. The Giants dropped to 52-77.
Boston's offense spent most of the evening searching for an answer against Giants starter Blade Tidwell. Tidwell allowed only three hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out seven and kept Boston from producing a hit with a runner in scoring position.

Netflix is pushing back against Tyra Banks' claims that its America's Next Top Model docuseries defamed her, asking a court to dismiss the model and television personality's lawsuit and arguing that she agreed to give filmmakers control over how her interview would be edited.
According to court documents obtained by People, the streamer filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on August 14. Netflix and EverWonder Studio also filed an anti-SLAPP motion and said they intend to "vigorously defend" Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model, the three-part documentary that premiered in February.

At the center of Netflix's response is an agreement it says Banks signed after sitting for an extensive interview. According to the motion, Banks acknowledged that she had "no right to review or approve" the finished project and released certain claims related to its production, including defamation and false light.
Netflix characterized her objections as disagreements with "ordinary editorial decisions" rather than false statements.

Mitchell Starc made a stunning start to the second Test against Bangladesh, taking a wicket with the first ball of the match before finishing the opening day with six wickets. Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam later matched Starc's six-wicket haul as 18 wickets fell on a dramatic day of Test cricket on Saturday.

Shoriful, who returned to the Bangladesh side after recovering from a side strain that kept him out of the first Test, finished with 6-35.

Australia were 165-8 at stumps and had taken a 101-run lead. Cameron Green was unbeaten on 51, while Nathan Lyon was not out on 10.
Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Captain Pat ****** mins felt the pitch could offer some help to the bowlers early in the morning.

"The wicket looks pretty good, but if there is any moisture in it, it might be this morning," ****** mins had said during the toss.

Starc quickly proved his captain right.

Shadman Islam was caught at gully off a leading edge from the very first ball, giving Starc his record fourth career wicket with the first delivery of a match.

Starc then removed Tanzid Hasan before having Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto caught lbw in the third over.

Bangladesh, which had surprisingly won the first Test of the two-match series, was suddenly in deep trouble.

Starc took his fourth wicket when Cameron Green made a grass-top catch to dismiss Mominul Haque for 9. Mominul was the only Bangladesh batter among the first four to score a run. Starc then trapped Litton Das lbw for his fifth wicket before taking his sixth after lunch. He finished with figures of 6-12 from 10 overs, while ****** mins took three wickets.
Bangladesh were dismissed for just 64 shortly after lunch. It was their lowest total while batting first in Australia since South Africa were bowled out for 36 in 1932.

No. 11 batter Shoriful Islam was Bangladesh's highest scorer with 14.

The pitch continued to be difficult for batting even after the morning session. Australia's batters also found it hard to score freely.

Starc was delighted with his incredible first session and spoke to his wife, television commentator and former Australia captain Alyssa Healy while walking off the field at lunch.
