Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has bested a young progressive challenger and an embattled former lawmaker after a hard-fought primary characterized by its racial overtones.
Schultz, a 21-year veteran of the House, stressed her seniority on the campaign trail and her ability to deliver services to constituents and secure federal funding for her district.
To secure her primary victory, Schultz defeated former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who resigned in April following fraud allegations, and 27-year-old activist and teacher Elijah Manley, who is aligned with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
Jeffries Declines To Back Wasserman Schultz As Black Leaders Revolt Over District Switch
Mid-decade redistricting in Florida prompted Schultz to choose to run in Florida's 20th Congressional District, which has a stronger Democratic lean than her home constituency.

TAMARAC, Fla. (AP) — Sporting red-white-and-blue sneakers and a matching bedazzled manicure ahead of Florida's primaries on Tuesday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz smiles and tells voters she is "running for reelection to Congress."
That's true — with a caveat. Wasserman Schultz is seeking her 12th term by running in a new district after Republicans scrambled the state's congressional map earlier this year.
The fallout pushed Wasserman Schultz, a former national party chair with powerful ties in Washington, to cross district lines from her Fort Lauderdale exurb and be the only white candidate against four Black candidates in an area of Broward County that has helped send Black Democrats to Congress since 1992. That's yielded an uncomfortable fight following the U.S. Supreme Court decision that gutted the Voting Rights Act provisions undergirding minority voting strength and effectively cleared Old Confederacy states, including Florida, to reshape House districts.
"For her to come in like this is just another Broward seat, it's a complete erasure of our history, our fight for Black access," said former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, 47, who resigned from the seat in April while facing an ethics investigation but now wants it back.
Another candidate, 27-year-old progressive organizer and substitute teacher Elijah Manley, said Republicans' redistricting ploy is not Wasserman Schultz's fault. But she "had other options," Manley added, including running in her new home district, which was gerrymandered to include the more conservative Gulf Coast.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., is being criticized by Florida's lone Jewish Republican in Congress as she works to unseat two fellow House Democrats.
Tlaib is appearing at a rally in Fort Lauderdale Friday held by left-wing groups in support of three congressional candidates, according to a flier posted on Instagram, including two socialists running to unseat Reps. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.
"I think that it's no coincidence that she's coming to target two of the remaining Jewish Democrats," Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital.

How good is the Houston Texans' secondary entering 2026?
In a sense, slightly underrated by Pro Football Focus compared to other rankings around the NFL, most notably at cornerback.
PFF recently revealed its top 32 cornerbacks for the 2026 season, with both Kamari Lassiter and two-time All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. ranked inside the top 10. Stingely, who has been arguably the second-best cornerback since 2024 behind former Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II, came in at No. 7 overall, behind names like Surtain, Seattle's Devon Witherspoon and Indianapolis' Sauce Gardner.
The reason? Yards before contact.
"Stingley experienced a bit of a volatile 2025 campaign in coverage last season, but his elite ball skills still allowed him to tally four interceptions and nine pass breakups," PFF's Dalton Wasserman wrote. "His 73.5 PFF coverage grade ranked 23rd among all qualified cornerbacks. Over the past three years, Stingley slots second among qualified cornerbacks with a 90.3 coverage grade. He and Kamari Lassiter make a good case to be labeled the NFL's best cornerback duo."

Adley Rutschman is playing baseball! Unfortunately he's doing it in Worcester, not Boston. Still, it was nice to see him behind the plate for five innings, during which he went 1-2 for two walks and threw out a runner. It was also nice for him, given that he played in front of both his father and the family that hosted him during his season playing in the Cape league. "He was great to have. It was exciting, he was coming off being in the College World Series at Oregon State," said his former host Bill Matta. "He'd play with my boys — they played wiffle ball, they'd go for ice cream. And then we'd watch him play." (Matty Wasserman, Boston Globe)
Speaking of rehab, Marcelo Mayer hopes to finish his rehab soon and make his debut with the Giants. He doesn't sound too upset about being shipped west. "It's been, like, six months since I had a burger from In-N-Out, so had to go back," he said. "That's usually the first thing I do when I get home in the offseason. So I was able to get one two months early." (Andrew Baggarly, The Athletic)
Rutschamn didn't need to be worried about being booed by the fans in Worcester. But apparently Willson Contreras did need to worry about it at Fenway. In his first game after returning from an illness, Sox fans booed the team's best player after he didn't run out a grounder to lead off the eighth. Chad Tracy didn't take isssue with his play, though. "I know how that looks," he said. "But I'm also aware, more than others, that he's a little beat up and told us before the game, 'I don't have everything today.' So I'm fine. Especially with a guy that plays the game as hard as he does, and how hard he turns around first base all the time. I'm fine with him." (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
Contreras returned just in time to anchor the middle of the lineup on a day when Wilyer Abreu wasn't able to, after he suffered some swelling as a result of hitting a foul ball off his leg on Friday. But he's expected to be back in the lineup this afternoon. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
Someone who won't be back, though, is Raymond Burgos. Burgos had the unusual honor of pitching three innings in two consecutive games, as he saved the bullpen during yesterday's loss. He's been optioned back to Worcester, with Seth Martinez taking his spot. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)

The Jacksonville Jaguars saw a strong performance from Ezra Cleveland in 2025. The veteran lineman has played in Jacksonville since 2023, but only surpassed 1,000 snaps last season and proved he was capable of still performing at a strong level.
Despite having the 15th-most regular-season snaps amongst left and right guards combined, he committed just three penalties. He gave up just 24 pressures on 650 pass rush snaps, and tied for 21st in pass-blocking efficiency among 87 guards. Cleveland was a consistent and reliable guard, and is being acknowledged for it now.
Dalton Wasserman ranked the top 32 guards in the league for Pro Football Focus, and Cleveland made the list, coming in at No. 27, with Wasserman praising him for bringing stability to the Jaguars' offensive line.
"His 71.4 PFF pass-blocking grade ranked 19th among qualified guards," he wrote. "Including the postseason, Cleveland allowed just four sacks on 684 pass-blocking snaps. He should continue to provide a reliable presence as Jacksonville's starting left guard this season."
Cleveland may not be flashy, but the quiet consistency he provides is exactly what Jacksonville needs from its offensive line in front of Trevor Lawrence. Interior pressure can ruin a running play and prevent a quarterback from stepping into the pocket even when the offensive tackles hold up, making dependable guard play especially important to sustaining the Jaguars' passing attack.

Key takeaway: The Columbus, Ohio, company completed the Cadence system conversion in late June, which should serve as a springboard to higher growth in the third and fourth quarters, executives said.
Supporting data: The conversion gives Huntington much more control over and insight into more than 1.4 million deposit accounts acquired from Cadence.
Expert quote: "This was the largest conversion we've ever done. It was the fastest we've ever done, and it was the best we've done, at least in my tenure." — Huntington Chairman and CEO Steve Steinour
While higher funding costs left their mark on Huntington Bancshares' second-quarter results, the Columbus, Ohio-based company is forecasting a strong finish to 2026 now that its most recent merger-related conversion is complete.
Business should pick up in the third quarter before peaking during the final three months of 2026, Chief Financial Officer Zach Wasserman said Thursday on a conference call with **** ysts.

Texas Longhorns left tackle Trevor Goosby is one of the best offensive tackles in the nation. Other than Arch Manning, Goosby might be the most important player on offense. The junior from Melissa, Texas is projected to be a top five pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
While the offensive line struggled in 2025, Goosby shined. The lineman holds down the key position of protecting Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
"What stands out about Texas' 2025 season? It's the offensive line struggles. But guess who didn't struggle? Goosby. The 6-foot-7, 312-pounder was a former three-star prospect from Melissa (Texas) High in the 2023 class, and his development is likely part of why the Longhorns weren't as aggressive as they needed to be in the portal for offensive linemen last offseason. When it comes to Texas, it's easy to fall in love with Manning, Coleman and Colin Simmons, but having a stud tackle will be make-or-break for the Longhorns in 2026. Goosby could be that guy." - Ari Wasserman of On3
Now, Goosby is ready for a season that could make him a household name across college football.
Here is everything Trevor Goosby said during his press conference at SEC Media Days:

One of the favorite offseason pieces of content is ranking the top players at every position and letting the discussion commence. Or arguments, or however folks like to get their points across.
Here's a take for you to ponder: Amon-Ra St. Brown as the fifth-best wide receiver in the NFL. That's where the Sun God landed in the wide receiver rankings over at Pro Football Focus, from Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick.
St. Brown has been as steady as they come over the past four seasons with the Lions. His 93.6 PFF receiving grade since 2022 ranks second in the NFL behind only Puka Nacua. No receiver has been better at moving the chains, as St. Brown's 285 combined receiving first downs and touchdowns over that span are 16 more than any other wide receiver. The former fourth-round pick's 33 receiving touchdowns over the past three seasons also lead the NFL.
Steady as they come. Excellent way to describe St. Brown. Since his breakout rookie season, St. Brown has been the straw that stirs the drink in the Lions' passing attack. Four straight 100-catch and 1,000-yard seasons, plus three straight seasons with double-digit touchdowns. He may not be the top guy for a lot of **** ysts, but he's not far off and is one of the very safe bets, especially if you are looking at him for your upcoming fantasy football drafts.
The only receivers ranked ahead of St. Brown on this list are Puka Nacua (Los Angeles Rams), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seattle Seahawks), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings) and Ja'Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals).

The Minnesota Vikings shocked some folks by not making it a point to revamp their running back room this offseason. The team reworked the deal of Aaron Jones, brought back Jordan Mason, and drafted Demond Claiborne. All those moves did not want give the Vikings the biggest shot in the arm, but they seem happy with their backfield as is.
According to PFF's Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman, there remains work to be done. They recently ranked the 32 best running backs in the NFL, and the only one in the backfield to be ranked was Jones. Sadly, he was placed into the 29th spot ahead of only players like Jacory Croskey-Merit, Jadarien Price, and Chris Rodriguez.
They write, "Jones is in the twilight of his career, but he still racked up 747 yards from scrimmage across just 12 games last season. When healthy, he can still be a productive committee piece, which he currently is alongside Jordan Mason. A healthier offensive line could also contribute to increased production on the ground, while potentially superior quarterback play could offer more chances for Jones in the passing game."
Jones will be entering his third season with the Vikings in 2026, and has had one great season and one not so great. Both he and the team are banking on a bounce back in 2026 before what could be an expected change next offseason.

It should be another impressive season for Notre Dame football, as it has stars all over the field according to Pro Football Focus.
Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick combined to ranked the top-50 players of the 2026 college football season, and the Irish placed four on the list.
It’s not a surprise to anyone that cornerback Leonard Moore was ranked, as he was the No. 2 player behind only Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. You could make the argument that the Notre Dame star should be above him, considering the results of their matchup in the 2025 National Championship Game. They said that Moore is “one of the best cornerback prospects in recent memory.”
The next Irish star to make was quarterback CJ Carr checking in at No. 14. He was the fifth at his position on the list, showing how strong quarterbacks should be this fall. Wasserman and Chadwick expect Carr to have a bigger season than last fall mainly due to Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price being first-round NFL draft picks.
Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa was next as No. 16, the top player at his position. There is a bit of a question as to how he’ll play early in the year after coming back from an injury last season, but by all reports he should be ready to go for the start of the year.

Jun. 25—Gonzaga has now gone two years without a Sweet 16 appearance or NBA draft pick — droughts that probably felt inconceivable during a nine-year run when Mark Few's program didn't miss the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament and churned out 12 total NBA selections.
The Zags hope to break both dry spells next year and NBA **** ysts forecasting next year's draft class already think GU is in a strong position to have at least one selection — if not multiple — when the draft comes back around next June.
Gonzaga's Davis Fogle and Massamba Diop both appeared in way-too-early mock drafts published by national media outlets hours after Wednesday's 2026 NBA Draft concluded at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Fogle's name appeared most frequently, with multiple publications projecting the sophomore wing as either a first- or second-round pick in 2027. In Bleacher Report's way-too-early mock draft, author Jonathan Wasserman projects Fogle to be picked No. 28 overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. CBS Sports didn't include Fogle in its first-round projections, but writer Adam Finkelstein highlighted Fogle as one of the returning college players "expected to make a jump" in 2026-27.
"Essentially, these would be players who weren't viewed as first-round candidates this year, but could be on the verge of a breakout season," Finkelstein wrote. "These are harder to forecast, but some of the players I'll be watching most closely include Duke's Dame Sarr, USC's Alijah Arenas, NC State's Paul McNeil, Texas' Matas Vokietaitis, Miami's Shelton Henderson, Arizona's Ivan Kharchenkov, and Gonzaga's Davis Fogle."

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Wisconsin Badgers' 2026 season is how long Luke Fickell remains the head coach.
A strong football season could put all that noise to rest, especially with such a massive class of 2027 set to come to town.
On paper, Wisconsin has an extremely favorable schedule, and even though On3's Ari Wasserman named Fickell a bottom-five coach in the Big Ten, there's far more reason to believe he'll trend up rather than down any further.
"Time flies, but it doesn’t feel all that long ago that Fickell was one of the hottest commodities in coaching," Wasserman wrote. "Fickell went to Wisconsin hoping to take the Badgers from good to great, but it has been a disaster since he stepped on campus."
Of course, Wasserman acknowledged his 57-18 record at Cincinnati, a team he made history with, taking them to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Kirk Ferentz is often referred to as the dean of college football. The longest-tenured FBS head coach in the country is set to enter his 28th season in charge at Iowa. And there are no signs he’s ready to slow down.
The Hawkeyes have won at least eight games in every season since 2015, excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. Through changes to the roster, coaching staff, and college football as a whole, one thing has remained consistent in Iowa City: Ferentz.
Ferentz's ability to win every single year despite roster changes has earned him a lot of respect in a loaded Big Ten Conference. That’s evident in the latest Big Ten head coach rankings from On3 Sports.
On3's Ari Wasserman ranked Ferentz as the fifth-best coach in the Big Ten, behind only Indiana's Curt Cignetti, Ohio State's Ryan Day, Oregon's Dan Lanning and Michigan's Kyle Whittingham.
Here's what Wasserman wrote about Ferentz:
