With a sweep over Lebanon on Aug. 20, Kings volleyball coach Amanda Meadows picked up her 500th career win.
Meadows has coached the Knights since 2004, compiling a 375-153 record. She started her coaching career at Turpin, leading the Spartans from 1996-2003 and amassing a 125-62 record. She has won a total of 12 conference ****** les, two district ****** les, and a historic 2023 Division I state championship.
According to the Ohio High School Athletic ****** ociation record book, she is the fourth Cincinnati coach to reach 500 wins, joining Ed Stewart (589 wins at Williamsburg), Carol Schawe (579 at Roger Bacon) and Tracey Kornau (528 with Seton, Lakota and Lakota West).

Carlos Alcaraz is finally set to return to tennis at the US Open, ending a four-month spell on the sidelines.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on social media that Alcaraz will take part in Flushing Meadows after recovering from a wrist injury.
The Spaniard has been out of action since April due to the injury and recently pulled out of the Cincinnati Open, delaying his comeback even further.
Wrist injuries are among the toughest for tennis players, with names like Juan Martin del Potro and Dominic Thiem seeing their careers impacted by similar issues.
Many had expected Alcaraz to skip the US Open, and fans are now worried that he might be putting his wrist at further risk by returning too soon.

Venus Williams has been given a wildcard for the US Open singles - and sister Serena could potentially still join her with one spot remaining.
Venus, 46, first played in New York 29 years ago and reached the final on her singles debut in 1997.
The American won two of her seven Grand Slam singles **** les at Flushing Meadows in 2000 and 2001.
Venus and 2017 champion Sloane Stephens have been given direct entry into the main draw which begins on Sunday, 30 August.
Serena returned to tennis in June, four years after "evolving away" from the sport, and played in singles at Wimbledon.

Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala may be out of the National Bank Open, but she and the Filipino fans brought the best energy to this tournament which desperately needed it. She is currently enjoying well-deserved rest after busy weeks of tennis in DC and Toronto.
Eala will enter the Cincinnati Open potentially seeded as high as World No. 17 after her amazing summer run that included the WTA 500 win at the Mubadala DC Open a couple weeks ago.

Organizers of the European championships have defended ticket prices in Birmingham after British sprinter Amy Hunt won the 100-meter final at a nearly half-empty Alexander Stadium.
One of Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson's coaches was among those questioning prices and raising concerns about parking and the cost of food — with bratwurst hot dogs going for 15 pounds ($20).
The category A seats for Monday night's session — which included Jakob Ingebrigtsen's victory in the 5,000 meters and Hunt's gold — cost 150 pounds ($202). The cheapest adult ticket was 26 pounds ($35).
Official attendance Monday night was 13,623, though journalists on hand said the actual figure seemed lower, in a stadium with capacity at 23,000.
"Hearing from fans re high ticket prices, parking issues & even people not knowing it was taking place," Jenny Meadows, a coach of Hodgkinson, wrote on social media.

Defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner top the 2026 U.S. Open entry list for tennis' final Grand Slam of the year.
Sabalenka is the two-time champion and is hoping to become the first woman to win three consecutive U.S. Open crowns since 2012-2014, when Serena Williams won the last of her six ******* les at Flushing Meadows.
Four other former women's U.S. Open champions are in the field, with 2024 winner Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek (2022), Naomi Osaka (2018, 2020) and Emma Raducanu (2021), looking to win their first Slam of the year.
There will be eight wild cards and 16 qualifiers among the 128 main-draw entries. It is not yet known whether Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, will compete in New York after making a return appearance at Wimbledon earlier this summer. Williams lost in Wimbledon's first round to Australian Maya Joint.
The three women who won Grand Slams this year are also in the field, led by Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva, who won at Roland Garros, and Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova.

Unlike other blue bloods, Michigan doesn't often reel in high five-star prospects. For every Rashan Gary and Bryce Underwood, there are classes without a single five-star in it that are developed into powerhouse football teams. The class of 2026 is the former, as Michigan brought in two five-stars this offseason in Savion Hiter and Carter Meadows. Meadows has the makings of a star, but will need some time to get ready for Big Ten action.
Meadows hails from Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C., one of the more well-known powerhouse high school programs. In fact, he was high school teammates with fellow Wolverine Kainoa Winston, and Evan Link also attended Gonzaga. In high school, Meadows was 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds. He possesses a frame that NFL scouts tend to drool over out of an edge rusher.
Naturally, a high schooler with elite athleticism and an NFL frame coming from a national powerhouse of a school was bound to get attention nationally. Meadows received offers from just about every major program, with 247Sports listing 29 offers. Carter made four official visits — South Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan, in that order.
In typical fashion, Carter's recruitment came down to Michigan and Ohio State. While certain sites may try to convince you the Buckeyes weren't going all in on Meadows, that would be incorrect. Meadows committed to Michigan, as Lou Esposito and company were able to close on Meadows, and Kyle Whittingham and the new staff were able to retain him.
As for his on the field skills, Meadows is about as good as they come for his age. He is an explosive edge with incredible bend and football IQ. He plays smart and is an avid run-defender. Meadows is also advanced for his age when it comes to pass-rushing moves.

MONROE – A 12-year-old and a veteran were the big winners in the 48th annual La-Z-Boy Junior Open.
Harlow Swank, who will begin her seventh-grade year at Newport St. Charles in a few weeks, and Billy Sennett Jr. of Flat Rock, playing in the event for the final time, were crowed as champions at Green Meadows Golf Course on Wednesday, July 22.
It was the third La-Z-Boy ***** le for Swank, but this time was different.
The 12-year-old girl won the girls open division, finishing ahead a group of teenagers.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and Wimbledon winner Jannik Sinner lead the fields for the U.S. Open that begins next month.
The U.S. Tennis ****** ociation announced the direct entry lists Tuesday for the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. Based on the July 20 rankings on the WTA and ATP Tours, the cutoff was No. 102 for the women and No. 101 for the men.
Sabalenka tops the women's rankings and will arrive in Flushing Meadows trying to become the first woman to win three straight U.S. Open ****** les since Serena Williams from 2012-14.
Sinner will be trying to regain the ****** le that Carlos Alcaraz took from the 2024 champion when they met in last year's final. The top-ranked Italian is coming off his fifth major championship, when he beat French Open champion Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz, who has missed the last two majors because of a wrist injury but hopes to return during the North American hard-court swing, is ranked No. 3 and entered in the field.

Friends and family of rising boxing star Hannah Rapp will host candlelight vigils Wednesday as part of a national movement to honor her life and memory.
Rapp, the 26-year-old Yorktown native and WBC women's featherweight boxer, died on Saturday after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas, in an apparent road rage incident.
The Brazos County sheriff's office said in a statement that 31-year-old Charles Medina had passed two cyclists Saturday morning before stopping his vehicle, shifting into reverse, and striking one of the riders, identified as Rapp. Medina has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Connor Mitton, owner and coach of Dark Side Boxing Club at 1433 E. Dollar Ct. in Brookston, said his club will host a candlelight vigil to honor Rapp, a former member of the club, to coincide with a vigil at her boxing gym in Bryan, Texas, and in her hometown of Yorktown, Indiana, held in Morrow Meadows at the Pavillion.
The vigils will start at 8:30 p.m., Mitton said, with candle lighting to begin at 9:30 p.m.

Arthur Fery has taken inspiration from Emma Raducanu's sensational US Open victory after his own remarkable run as a wildcard to the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Fery has grasped his chance over the past 10 days, transforming his reputation on the sport's biggest stage, having won just two grand slam matches before.
But after dispatching Flavio Cobolli in straight sets, further defying his position as the 114th player in the world rankings, Fery is one win away from reaching the final ahead of Friday's semi-final with French Open champion Alex Zverev.
But Fery is relaxed and is confident after recalling Raducanu's run to glory at Flushing Meadows in 2021.

While most are fawning over some of Michigan football's freshmen such as running back Savion Hiter, wide receiver Salesi Moa, or edge rusher Carter Meadows, there are other first-year players who could find themselves getting early time in 2026.
Among the potential players who could see the field often are the two young defensive linemen -- ***** an Davis and Alister Vallejo -- each of whom is a summer arrival. Michigan's defense under Kyle Whittingham is built on versatility, physicality and players who can diagnose quickly before attacking downhill. That's exactly why this freshman interior defensive lineman is such a natural fit. One of the most instinctive bullies in this 2026 class for the Wolverines, Davis has the frame, athleticism and football IQ to contribute earlier than most freshmen, especially from a rotational sense. However, being a summer enrollee may alter that timeline a bit. The Wolverines won't need him to be a star immediately, but his blend of toughness and athletic upside could earn him meaningful snaps in Year 1 playing behind Trey Pierce and Enow Etta inside. Long-term, Davis has all the tools to become one of Michigan's most impactful defenders and a cornerstone of Whittingham's defensive identity.
Despite the depth at the position group that Kyle Whittingham feels like he has (he said he has five players likely to rotate), it wouldn't be a surprise if Davis were to crack the lineup in some capacity. Of course, he wouldn't be a starter like Etta, Pierce, or transfer Jonah Lea'ea, but could he find time along with Deyvid Palepale, Benny Patterson, or Travis Moten? It's certainly possible.

More than 13,000 runners took part in the sold-out 2026 Citizens Queens 10K on Saturday morning in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Hosted by New York Road Runners, the annual race sent participants on a 6.2-mile course through the park, passing iconic landmarks including the Unisphere and the Queens Museum.
Now in its 13th year, the Citizens Queens 10K has become one of the borough's signature running events, drawing 11,600 adult athletes from across New York City and beyond.
More than 1,000 children also participated in the accompanying Flushing Meadows Kids Run, which featured free races and dashes for young runners.
The Citizens Queens 10K is the fourth of six races in the NYRR Five-Borough Series, showcasing New York Road Runners' commitment to the individuals and communities in each borough.
