SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Rafael Devers hit his 28th homer, a drive that bounced into McCovey Cove, and reliever Anthony Molina worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings as the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Drew Cavanaugh hit a two-run single in the first inning for San Francisco before Devers went deep in the fifth, his third homer in five games. It was his 16th longball at Oracle Park this season, the most by a Giant since Barry Bonds in 2007.
Sal Stewart scored the Reds' first run in 23 innings on his ninth-inning homer. His 28 home runs are the second most by a Reds rookie, trailing only Frank Robinson's 38 in 1956.
Cavanaugh finished 3 for 3 for his first career three-hit game. Nate Furman got his first major league hit, a single in the third.
Molina (1-0) relieved right-hander Adrian Houser, who left in the second inning with an apparent injury to his throwing arm. He allowed one hit and fanned a batter.

A rather poor weekend for the San Francisco Giants, but a tremendously exciting weekend for their Minor League Baseball affiliates. Let's dive into the 15 games that were played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

AAA Sacramento outfielder Bo Davidson (No. 4 CPL) was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week. It was very well earned. You'll find out why in a moment.
Also very well earned was the promotion of outfielder Lisbel Diaz (No. 32 CPL), the organization's home run leader. He moves up from High-A Eugene to AA Richmond.

Thursday night is Netflix's season finale: the MLB Field of Dreams Game live from Dyersville, Iowa. A baseball mecca and hallowed ground for many. Why? Because of its simplicity. Lights, field, corn.
The nostalgia of the Oscar-nominated film runs deep with baseball fans young and old. James Earl Jones' speech mixed in with the emotions of having a catch. The script is just laid out for Netflix to end its first season of MLB coverage with a home run. But will they?
If the first two instances of coverage on the streaming giant have proven anything, it's that Netflix tends to add too much to a proven formula. MLB Opening Night was an utter disaster of a debut for baseball purists. The Home Run Derby was Netflix's attempt to correct some of those mistakes. Thursday night, the lights in Iowa offer a grand finale. One that Netflix needs to take seriously into its offseason.
Netflix wants live events. They don't want baseball games on a regular basis. That's why, entering the season, I knew the approach by Netflix wouldn't be for the purists. The goal was simple: Be different.
The first shot out of the gate was MLB Opening Night. It was filled with 'Netflixing' the start of the MLB baseball season. Plenty of references and signage plugged Netflix content selections. You had Jameis Winston hanging out with fans and the Uso brothers in the stands. Bert Kreischer was in McCovey's Cove, then screaming to the fans about the excitement of Opening Night.

Apologies for the late Minor League Baseball roundup, but the Mike Krukow news set me back a bit today, both emotionally and in terms of labor. So let's speed run Wednesday's games from the San Francisco Giants affiliates … it was a great day for players whose name starts with a J!

Four pieces of news, all good: LHP Esmerlin Vinicio has been promoted from High-A Eugene to AA Richmond. And Richmond RHP RJ Dabovich, who has had awful injury luck, has been given a rehab ******* ignment with Low-A San Jose.
And finally, AAA Sacramento outfielder Turner Hill was named Player of the Month in the Pacific Coast League, while outfielder Franco Willias earned those honors in the Dominican Summer League.

Apologies for not having a weekend Minor League Baseball roundup. With the San Francisco Giants being so active at the deadline, I just wasn't able to find the time to cover the weekend's games.
But I'm here to talk about what went down on Tuesday! Just five games for the Giants affiliates, as AA Richmond had their game postponed. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow.

The big news on the farm, of course, is the infusion of talent that the Giants got at the trade deadline, which featured 6 prospects, plus 2 young rostered players. You can catch up on all the moves here. If you want to know where the new guys rank, well … ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. But MLB Pipeline has already adjusted their Giants top 30 to include the new prospects, and 5 of the 6 made the cut (it's worth noting that the Pipeline top 30 doesn't yet have the 2026 draftees).

A Giant has finally splashed down into McCovey Cove. The 109th baseball to be baptized in the icy Bay waters was the first by a San Francisco Giant in 2026, and the first of Bryce Eldridge’s career.
It was a doozy too. Well…a doozy compared to recent Splash Hits. Measured on the Bondsian Scale, Eldridge’s would qualify as roughly a “routine fly.” It didn’t do a fifth or sixth archway flyover, nor burst into flames as it broke through the atmosphere on its descent — but it wasn’t cheap either. The game-tying shot in the 4th took a direct route down the right-field line and cleared the boardwalk railing below by plenty. Considering the pitch he hit, a hung slider off the inside of the plate, didn’t veer off foul is a testament to the quality of Eldridge’s contact. The ball hissed off his bat at 106 MPH, traveling 394 feet before it got soaked.

Eldridge is the 33rd Giant, and at 21 years of age, the youngest to launch a Splash Hit in their career, and first since Rafael Devers in September of last year. While we’re already on the doorstep of the All-Star Break, this was not the latest fans have had to wait for a ball to go spelunking into the Cove. Stephen Vogt’s off Philly’s Drew Smyly ended the drought in 2019 on August 9th. Brandon Belt hit one on September 25th, 2014, and he hit one again 20 months later, off Boston’s David Price, in June of 2016 — no other ball got wet off a Giants bat in the meantime. 2015 remains the only dry season in the 27 year history of the park at 3rd and King.
The best part of Eldridge’s Splash Hit: it helped the Giants win. The solo homer evened the score and kicked off a string of seven unanswered runs for the San Francisco offense, culminating in a 4-run outburst in the 8th that secured an 8-2 victory over the Rockies.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Casey Schmitt, Bryce Eldridge and Willy Adames homered to back rookie Carson Whisenhunt and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Thursday night to start a four-game series.
Whisenhunt (2-0) allowed two runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings in his second start this season and the seventh of his career. He struck out four and walked four, throwing 57 of 87 pitches for strikes.
JT Brubacker retired all four batters he faced before Erik Miller struck out two in a scoreless eighth. Caleb Kilian fanned two in the ninth to finish.
Schmitt hit his 18th homer — a two-out shot off Ryan Feltner (3-3) for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. He had an RBI double after a two-out bases-empty single by Luis Arraez to ignite a four-run eighth against reliever TJ Shook. Rafael Devers added a ground-rule RBI double in front of Adames' 15th homer to cap the rally.
Eldridge became the first Giant this season to hit a home run into McCovey Cove, tying it 2-2 in the fourth with his eighth of the season.

All seven of the San Francisco Giants Minor League Baseball affiliates were in action on Tuesday. Here’s what happened!

Sacramento River Cats beat the Oklahoma City Comets (Dodgers) 10-1
Box score
RHP Tyler Mahle began his rehab ****** ignment on Tuesday, a few days later than planned (Mahle was supposed to begin his rehab on Sunday, but that game was rained out, and Monday was an off-day). Rehab ****** ignments are all about ramping up and feeling healthy, so we’ll try to overlook the fact that Mahle was not very sharp. He only threw 33 of 63 pitches for strikes, while walking 5 batters in just 3 innings. He wasn’t particularly hittable, admittedly, as he only gave up 1 hit and 1 run, with 3 strikeouts, but still not the most encouraging outing. With RHP Trevor McDonald (No. 12 CPL) struggling, and Mahle being a player who could be moved at the deadline, it seems likely that he’ll be back in the MLB rotation soon.
