Hurricane Marie, well out in the Pacific, created flooding and dangerous conditions at some southern California beaches over Labor Day weekend, with strong currents and huge waves presenting a threat to swimmers and surfers.
Rose Schoenfeld, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said Sunday that Marie stirred up "life-threatening" conditions as it churned in the ocean hundreds of miles off California's Pacific coast. Some south-facing beaches have seen surf up to 10 feet (3 meters) high, she said.
"We're getting reports from lifeguards that the surf conditions are very dangerous, specifically the rip currents," Schoenfeld said.
Hurricane Marie won't make landfall and is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by late Sunday, but will still but will still bring rain to parts of Los Angeles County before it dissipates. Some parts of the area have already seen as much as a quarter inch of rain Sunday, Schoenfeld said.
The National Weather Service advised people to swim only near lifeguards and to stay off rock jetties.

Carmen Electra has been turning heads in swimwear for more than three decades, and at 54, the former Baywatch bombshell remains every bit as confident in front of the camera.
The actress and model shot to international fame when she joined the hit lifeguard series in 1997 as Lani McKenzie, following in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson and becoming one of the show's most recognizable stars.
Born Tara Leigh Patrick, Carmen began her career as a singer after moving to Minneapolis and catching the attention of Prince, who gave her the stage name Carmen Electra. But it was her appearances in Playboy, followed by Baywatch and MTV's Singled Out, that transformed her into one of the defining pin-ups of the late '90s.
Decades later, Carmen has embraced her status as a ****** symbol rather than shying away from it. "I love being ****** y," she previously told Fox News Digital. "I think it's empowering."
From her iconic '90s shoots to the seriously daring looks she shares today, join ****** O! as we take a look back at Carmen's most memorable bikini moments.

A lifeguard in Maine said he "started swimming like ****** " when a shark grabbed onto his buoy and pulled him underwater off the coast of Scarborough Beach on Saturday.
Greg Wilfert said he initially thought he was caught in the propeller of a boat.
"'Cause that's the only thing I could think of until I realized there was no boat," he said.
Wilfert said he was pulled about 5 feet underwater before he was able to get free and emerge on shore unharmed.
"It was frightening," he said. "I'm not going to deny that."

Scooping ice cream, lifeguarding swimming pools, and restocking retail stores during the summer has long been teenagers' rite of passage. For most, it's the first time they build real-world skills and earn their own pocket change. But now, teens are up against the worst summer job market since the Great Recession. Landing a job at the back of a mom-and-pop shop feels almost as hard as scoring a full-time corporate role.
"I didn't know it was going to be this hard. I thought it was going to be quite easy. And with all the applications I sent through, I feel a bit discouraged," Simon Chow, a 17-year-old who spent months applying to dozens of summer gigs, tells Fortune. "I'm looking everywhere, and I'll take anything at this point."
Around 790,000 jobs in May, June, and July of this year opened up for teenagers—down from around 801,000 gigs from 2025—according to a recent report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. And if the study's prediction plays out, this stretch of summer would mark the lowest teen hiring since 1948, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking the data. Beyond the previous year, the only other time this figure dropped to a low this concerning was in 2010 (960,000), when the U.S. was reeling from the Great Recession.
Now, teenagers are having to get crafty to land their minimum-wage summer gigs. Like many job seekers, they're playing the numbers game, sending out dozens of applications only to be ghosted. Others are employing the old-fashioned strategy deployed by their parents, strutting up to storefronts with resume in hand and elevator pitch memorized. And after months of searching, some tough realities have become clear: landing a seasonal job in this market can require connections, experience, and the guts to put themselves out there.
Teenagers across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., tell Fortune this year's summer job market has been miserable—but some are finding a way in.

Sumit Rai said he received a phone call no parent wants to receive after his 10-year-old son was swept into the ocean at California's Seabright State Beach.
"My son [called and] told me, 'Dad, I drowned. I went unconscious.' I'm listening to him, and he thinks he is going to die," Rai shared on Fox News Live.
Nathaniel was standing on the wet sand near the shoreline when a wave knocked him down and pulled him roughly 15 yards into deep water.

The father of a 10-year-old rescued from pounding surf off the California coast in a dramatic scene captured on video says he is beyond grateful to the teenage lifeguard who saved his son.
"He ran into that water despite those conditions that are deadly. You have 10 foot waves; you have riptides and currents coming in," Sumit Rai told The ****** ociated Press on Wednesday. "It is not safe for him to go into that water. So he's risking his own safety."
Rai's son Nathaniel was standing in shallow water when he lost his footing and was pulled into the ocean Saturday by powerful swells that suddenly came ashore at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, about 60 miles (about 100 kilometers) down the coast from San Francisco. Rai, who was in his home city of Dallas, said he heard about what happened when he spoke to his kids on the phone that evening.
"My son told me that he drowned and my son told me that he went unconscious," he said. "He was very subdued, still in a state of shock."
By the next morning, Rai had watched the video of the rescue that has since caught the attention of President Donald Trump.

So ex-college quarterback Brendan Sorsby suddenly finds himself with a year off, an unexpected interlude between the rigors of college and the pressures of a real job. Many recent college students, given this kind of gap year opportunity, will go backpacking across Europe or work a ski lift or sit in a lifeguard chair. Anything to stave off the real world a few months longer.
Sorsby probably won’t be staying in any Italian youth hostels or carving up ski slopes. But then, he’s got a much larger opportunity awaiting him than most gap-year ex-students … as long as he takes advantage of it.
Sorsby, of course, isn’t taking this career siesta by choice. Thanks to his incredibly foolish gambling habits, he went from leader of a College Football Playoff-level program to pariah faster than you can say three-team parlay. He’s got no one to blame but himself, even though he and his team have tried to rope in the University of Cincinnati, Texas Tech, the NCAA, the gambling-industrial complex, the NFL, and probably even the Vatican too, just to muddy the waters.
But that’s the past, and we’re not here to re-litigate the past. (Not even with a Texas judge.) No, let’s discuss Brendan Sorsby’s future, specifically the next 10 months of that future. Between now and the 2027 NFL Draft, Sorsby has a unique opportunity, a chance to completely rewrite the narrative that’s grown up around him, a narrative he and his lawyers have fed with heaping doses of fertilizer.
Sorsby gambled his way out of a starting job for one of the elite college programs in the country, and with it a potential gateway to the first round of the NFL draft. And for what? A few taps on an app, a few winners, a lot more losers. That’s how quickly you can gamble away what could have been a Heisman-level year, and that’s the kind of story Sorsby ought to be telling right now to every college student, every rookie in every league, everyone who’s used a promo code to get free bets and believed they were on the way to riches.

Brooks Nader brings lifeguard heat to Drama Club FOX's Reel. The model and actress appear in promo content for Fox's "Baywatch" reboot, with the caption, "Just iconic #Baywatch behavior," as the video puts her red uniform front and center.
Have a look at Brooks Nader in the quintessential "Baywatch" swimsuit:
The model's swimsuit is the hook. Nader wears the signature red one-piece with a scoop neckline, wide straps, high-cut legs, and a round lifeguard-style patch near the hip. The curve-hugging shape revives the franchise's famous beach-run image with a robe-layered twist.
She wears the swimsuit under an oversized gray robe-style cardigan, left open over her shoulders for a post-scene finish. Her long blonde hair falls in waves with face-framing layers. Bronzed skin, defined brows, smoky eyes, contoured cheeks, and a nude-pink lip complete the glam.
Nader plays Selene, captain of the Zuma Beach lifeguards. Fans reacted quickly. One wrote, "she's an icon she's a legend and she is the moment!" Another said, "Gorgeous." A third added, "ICONIC."
