LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Hernández pitched the final three innings of Saturday's loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, giving the other six Dodgers relief pitchers a full day of rest amid a time of heavy usage. The Dodgers on Sunday recalled Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City, adding a fresh arm to the bullpen, with Justin Wrobleski placed on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation.
Manger Dave Roberts on Saturday said Hurt was on his way, and because Hurt was just optioned on Monday he would need to replace an injured pitcher in order to be activated before his 15 days were up.
"We have some guys that are ailing," Roberts said Saturday evening.
Wrobleski is closing in on a professional career high in innings and though his innings were going to be reduced anyway by moving to the bullpen once Tyler Glasnow returns from the injured list, this allows Wrobleski to truly rest for at least two weeks. The left-hander has allowed 11 home runs in his last four starts, with 20 runs (19 earned) given up in 19 2/3 innings during that stretch.
Glasnow will make one more rehab start this coming Thursday, expected to pitch five innings and around 75 pitches, before returning to the Dodgers rotation after that. Because of upcoming off days on August 20 and 24, the Dodgers can get by with five starters all on at least five days rest until Glasnow returns.

Justin Wrobleski was an All-Star this year, but there is about to be no room for him in the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation, despite their implementation of a six-man rotation.
Most teams struggle with using a six-man rotation because it cuts an arm out of the bullpen. That has not been the case for the Dodgers for most of the year because, for one, their starters are elite, and one of them does not count as a pitcher on the roster.
Wrobleski, Tarik Skubal, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki and Eric Lauer are the Dodgers' current rotation, but Tyler Glasnow is close to returning. Shohei Ohtani is taking steps toward a return as well. Snell, Skubal and Yamamoto are not going anywhere, and Sasaki has been phenomenal after the Dodgers got him a bigger glove and did a deep dive into some of his issues.
When Glasnow and Ohtani are back, Wrobleski and Lauer are the strongest candidates to be ***** ped. Lauer is a no-brainer, as he has experience as a reliever and, despite his success with the Dodgers, is the weakest of the six arms. Wrobleski, however, would be a frontline starter on most teams. Roberts confirmed that he would go to the bullpen "at some point in time," according to Dodger Blue.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are continuing their quest for the National League's No. 1 seed during the 2026 MLB season. The back-to-back defending World Series champions are 74-49, first place in the NL West.
They have achieved this with a good amount of injuries/underperformances from key players. On offense, Kyle Tucker and Mookie Betts have been lackluster. For the pitching staff, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell have missed much of the season with injury.
Snell made his first start back on Tuesday. Now heading into the final quarter of the regular season, the Dodgers received an update on Glasnow's back injury. He is scheduled to make one more rehab start before joining the team next week.
The news of Glasnow's impending return also prompted manager Dave Roberts to comment on how left-hander Justin Wrobleski will be used. He will apparently be moving back to the bullpen "at some point in time."
The oft-injured Glasnow has made 47 total starts since joining the Dodgers in the 2024 season. He has made seven starts this season, going 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA. He has thrown 39 ⅔ innings, striking out 49 and walking 13.

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers traded for Tarik Skubal to pair with Yoshinobu Yamamoto atop the depth chart. Blake Snell returned from three months on the injured list with 10 strikeouts in six strong innings on Tuesday.
Tyler Glasnow struck out eight for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday in his third rehab start, and is expected to start once more in the minors before returning to Los Angeles. Couple that with Shohei Ohtani likely available to pitch in October in some capacity, the Dodgers could have an even stronger pitching foundation than last season, when they rode a stellar quartet to a ***** le.
Gavin Stone is another Dodgers starting pitcher rehabbing in Triple-A, but is also nearly two years removed from his last major league start. Stone led the Dodgers with 25 starts and 140 1/3 innings pitched that season, but didn't pitch past August and has been sidelined since following major shoulder surgery that October that repaired a capsule tear and partial labrum/rotator cuff damage.
Stone has allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings in his two starts so far for Oklahoma City, striking out eight of his 18 batters faced. That included five strikeouts in three innings on Thursday.
While Stone might be far down the depth chart this season, the Dodgers are keeping their options open with him, continuing a starter's progression while on rehab.

Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow made his second minor league rehab start this week, throwing 47 pitches in 2 2/3 innings on Sunday night for Triple-A Oklahoma City on the road against the Salt Lake Bees, an Angels affiliate.
Glasnow struck out two and allowed a run on one hit and one walk. The run came on a wild pitch in the first inning. Both baserunners against him stole second base, one each in the first two innings, a classic case of a rehabbing pitcher paying almost no attention to baserunners while trying to reach a specific goal.
Glasnow on Sunday averaged 95.9 mph on his 17 four-seam fastballs and induced five swinging strikes in his outing, starting on four days rest for the first time since July 23, 2025 with the Dodgers.
On Tuesday for Class-A Ontario, Glasnow needed only 16 pitches to complete two frames, and manager Dave Roberts told reporters that day at Wrigley Field in Chicago that Glasnow completed a third simulated inning in the bullpen following that first rehab start.
The plan is for Glasnow to stretch out to at least four innings before the Dodgers make a determination of his readiness to return to the major league rotation. His last start for the Dodgers was May 6, out the last three months with back spasms.

Eric Lauer surprisingly established himself as a valuable member of the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation after he was designated for ******* ignment by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Amid some pitching injuries, Lauer got a chance to prove his worth to the organization, making eight starts prior to the trade deadline and pitching behind an opener once. In those nine games, the team went 9-0, and Lauer had a 2.96 ERA.
However, trade rumors grew as Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow took steps toward returning to the big leagues. With Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki and Justin Wrobleski also in the rotation, Lauer's spot was in danger, making him a trade candidate. Lauer spoke about trade possibilities with Andrew Friedman before the deadline.
"They had been pretty open with me communication-wise about what they were thinking, what I was thinking," Lauer said. "I expressed to them that I wanted to be a Dodger. So, I think they took that to heart."

Two-time defending AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal is officially a Dodger following Saturday's blockbuster trade, with ripple effects being felt across MLB. On the latest episode of MLB According to CC, Hall of Famer CC Sabathia explained why the Dodgers' marquee acquisition has major consequences for the Milwaukee Brewers' NL Pennant and World Series aspirations.
The number one thing I thought about was how the Brewers kind of blew it ... I felt like [Los Angeles] was the only spot that he could go to that would ruin the Brewers' season.
CC Sabathia
Sabathia always believed that Milwaukee was the team that could have benefited the most from acquiring Skubal, explaining just a week ago that the Brewers had to make a major move to "get over the hump." With the star lefty now wearing Dodger blue, Sabathia fears the lack of a rotation upgrade could "break" the Brewers' hopes of truly challenging the Dodgers for NL supremacy.
The Hall of Famer points primarily to Los Angeles' nearly unmatched pitching depth, where Dave Roberts' rotation has the chance to become one of the best rotations we have "ever seen," with a staff that could include Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell.

The Dodgers entered the 2026 season with ambitions of becoming team to three-peat in 26 years. Following Monday's trade deadline, they echoed that sentiment with a summer blockbuster and an encore.
Their string of deals began late Saturday night, as after suffering a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox, they struck a deal that infuriated nearly the entire baseball world. The Dodgers landed two-time defending AL Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers while sending away outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and pitching prospect Brady Smith.
The addition of Skubal not only invigorates an already vaunted rotation (when fully healthy), it gives the Dodgers another left-handed option that is a proven innings eater. Before Skubal needed surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow, he had logged at least six innings of work in six of his first seven starts. He hasn't matched his pre-injury average start length since returning on June 13, but he has logged at least five innings in all but one of his nine final starts in Detroit.
For a Dodgers rotation that is still missing Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, adding Skubal in the mix keeps the six-man rotation as the norm for the pitching staff down the stretch. With Emmet Sheehan's demotion to Triple-A, the current rotation features Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Justin Wrobleski and Eric Lauer, and until the other three starters return, the Dodgers could implement a weekly bullpen game. Skubal will certainly headline the four-man rotation in the postseason, and the Dodgers have seven options to choose to accompany him come October.
Gauging what the postseason rotation will be a work in progress until October arrives. Skubal and Yamamoto are shoe-ins at the top, but the final two spots are completely up for grabs. Blake Snell is set to return next week after a final rehab start, while Tyler Glasnow has yet to embark on his rehab ***** ignment. The latter is projected to return sometime in September. Ohtani's status for returning to the mound in the regular season is unclear, though the team expects him back in October. The trio of Sasaki, Wrobleski and Lauer all were used exclusively in relief last year for both the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

The MLB trade deadline had no shortage of fireworks this year, from two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal landing with the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox acquiring catcher Adley Rutschman.
Teams took differing paths to fortify their rosters at the deadline. The Chicago Cubs loaded up on pitching, trading for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman and New York Mets righty Clay Holmes. The Philadelphia Phillies, meanwhile, found the reliable bat they've been missing in San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez.
Skubal's trade remains the most league-altering of the deadline. The 2024 American League Triple Crown winner joins a loaded Dodgers rotation including Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. It sparked a massive salary cap debate on social media and strengthened the chances of a Dodgers World Series three-peat.
With 6 p.m. ET in the rearview mirror and the dust settled, let's take a look at the winners and losers of the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays are taking a chance on right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta bouncing back to his All-Star form after a rocky stint with the New York Mets. They didn't lose a single top-10 organizational prospect in the process. Tampa also got a reliable hitter in catcher Liam Hicks, who was enjoying a career year with the Miami Marlins, without giving up any notable prospects. Low-risk, high-reward moves like those are the recipe for success.

LOS ANGELES — Dave Roberts never feels good after getting swept, but Sunday might have been an exception. How else can you really feel less than 24 hours after finding out the your team just traded for Tarik Skubal?
"That's a silver lining, I guess," Roberts said after the Los Angeles Dodgers' 8-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
Moments after Saturday's 3-2 loss, ESPN's Jeff Passan dropped his biggest bomb of the trade deadline: the Dodgers were acquiring Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith. The price was steep — Hope and Ryan are MLB Pipeline's No. 25- and 68-ranked prospects, while Smith was No. 17 on the Dodgers' top 30 prospects list — but not one that president of baseball operations couldn't afford.
And after spending almost all of July downplaying his pursuit of the reigning back-to-back American League Cy Young winner, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said negotiations started picking up on Friday before he eventually pulled the trigger on Saturday night, adding the best pitcher in baseball to a rotation that (when healthy) consists of 2025 World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers are acquiring the biggest name of the trade deadline season, adding Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal in a blockbuster deal that bolsters their starting rotation and sent shock waves across Major League Baseball on Saturday night.
The deal, according to people with knowledge of the trade not authorized to speak publicly, comes ahead of Monday's trade deadline. The Dodgers are sending prospects Zyhir Hope, River Ryan and Brady Smith to Detroit in exchange for the 29-year-old two-time American League Cy Young Award winner.
Skubal joins a rotation that was already expected to be strengthened by the return of Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow but still had question marks, particularly with Shohei Ohtani continuing to deal with a troublesome left knee.
But now with Skubal joining a rotation that features All-Stars Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski along with an improving Roki Sasaki, the pitching staff has been fortified and has considerably more flexibility as the Dodgers look ahead to the postseason and a run at a third consecutive World Series ***** le.

With less than a week remaining before Major League Baseball's trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as the betting favorites to land one of the game's premier pitchers.
According to the latest odds released by BetOnline Sports & Casino, the Dodgers are the favorites to acquire Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal if the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner is dealt before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. Los Angeles is listed at 3/2 (+150), ahead of the New York Yankees at 5/2 (+250) and the Milwaukee Brewers at 3/1.
Whether Skubal is actually available remains one of the biggest questions leading up to the deadline. The Tigers remain in contention and have shown little public willingness to move the 29-year-old left-hander, who has established himself as one of baseball's most dominant starting pitchers. But should Detroit decide to entertain offers, oddsmakers believe the Dodgers are the most likely destination.
It would be easy to understand why.
The Dodgers have once again positioned themselves among the National League's elite, but adding another frontline starter has long been viewed as a potential priority for president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman. A rotation featuring Skubal alongside Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell and Shohei Ohtani—when fully stretched back into pitching duties—would give Los Angeles arguably the deepest and most talented staff in baseball entering October.

LOS ANGELES — With just two months remaining in the regular season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are beginning to look like the team they envisioned entering the year.
Kiké Hernández is back after a lengthy absence. Edwin Díaz is set to rejoin the bullpen. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow continue progressing toward full strength.
But the biggest question surrounding the Dodgers remains unanswered.
Despite positive updates on Shohei Ohtani's overall health, manager Dave Roberts acknowledged there is still no timetable for the two-way superstar to resume pitching, raising the possibility that the Dodgers may have to navigate the stretch run without one of the game's elite starting pitchers.
"I think we're just trying to be prudent," Roberts said of Ohtani's recovery. "Overall and total, I feel very good for the rest of the season with all three of those guys as starting pitchers."

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not gotten a start from Tyler Glasnow in months, but that is slowly changing.
Glasnow went down on the injured list with back spasms, something that was triggered back in May after one inning of work against the Houston Astros.
Since then, he was shut down for a bit, resumed throwing, and then he was shut down once again.
He has experienced a lot of stop-and-start, but over the last two weeks he has finally been cleared to resume throwing and has gotten work in.

Eric Lauer had a solid season for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, posting a 3.18 ERA in 28 games, but he was off to a poor start this year.
Lauer was very important for the Blue Jays last season as he helped cover some key pitching injuries, and also was able to serve as both a starter and reliever. He came out of the bullpen in October and had a 3.12 ERA in five games during the Blue Jays' World Series run. This season, he had a 6.69 ERA in eight games for the Blue Jays, making six starts. They designated him for ******* ignment on May 11, and the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired him for cash on May 17.
The Dodgers have been dealing with pitching injuries all season, with Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell both spending time on the injured list. Relievers Edwin Díaz, Evan Phillips and Blake Treinen are also on the injured list. It made sense for them to acquire a swingman like Lauer to eat innings, but they have turned him into a key player. He has a 2.88 ERA in six games, making five starts, for the Dodgers.
Do you have a take to get off your chest? Do you want to engage in a growing Dodgers community? Comment on our content alongside staff and fans alike!
Not only is he helping the Dodgers win games, but he is also making a case to remain on the roster when some of the injured players return. Lauer seems like a far better rotation option than Roki Sasaki at this point in time. When healthy, the Dodgers may be best suited to have a rotation of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Snell, Glasnow, Lauer and Justin Wrobleski. If they want a five-man rotation, Lauer would make the most sense as a long-relief option.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a clear strategy from the outset of this season: Get through the 162-game schedule while as healthy as possible, and then roll with their incredible talent in October. That strategy helped them win their second consecutive World Series last year, as their starting pitching was the healthiest it had been all year going into the postseason. Coming into the 2026 season, that was once again the plan.
As the season nears its halfway point, the Dodgers are not healthy, which is something they’ve gotten used to over the past few years. L.A. has been without left-hander Blake Snell for most of the first half. The two-time Cy Young Award winner started the season on the injured list recovering from left shoulder fatigue. After making his return on May 9, he was back on the IL a week later and then had surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow.
Closer Edwin Díaz has been out of action since April 20, also undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. Right-hander Tyler Glasnow has been on the IL since the beginning of May due to a bad back and was recently put on the 60-day IL. He hasn’t begun a throwing progression, making his return in the near future feel extremely remote.
And finally, there’s Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani has been one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball in 2026. But the four-time MVP is now dealing with a balky left knee, something L.A. will have to monitor going forward.
