The summer window may have just closed, but Barcelona are already planning for January, with a significant financial decision looming on the horizon.
The club have approximately €60 million available in their Financial Fair Play allocation, giving them room to manoeuvre in the winter market should they choose to.
However, that money could also serve a very different purpose, particularly for the season ahead.

Real Madrid's pivotal contract meeting with Vinicius Junior on Wednesday set the two parties on the path to a renewal, with David Ornstein reporting for The Athletic that the club ultimately decided to make an improved contract offer to the winger.
There were significant financial differences between player and club going into Wednesday's meeting, and there had been repeated suggestions in the Spanish media that Real Madrid were refusing to up their offer to the player.

Ramon Alvarez de Mon reports that Vinicius Junior's camp are currently in a meeting with Real Madrid, and the club intend to emerge from it with a clear solution.
Vinicius is in the final 12 months of his contract, and extension negotiations have been stalling for months. His club are understandably keen to see him either agreeing an extension or agreeing to be sold, to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
There are no guarantees such a decision will be made today, but that's evidently what Real Madrid want.

Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon reports that Vinicius Junior's next round of contract talks with Real Madrid will take place in the next 48 hours, but Real are expected to maintain the same offer they already made to the player in recent months.
Gustavo Hofman writes for ESPN in Brazil that Real submitted their most recent offer to Vinicius shortly after the World Cup, offering him around €22m annually, a slight increase on their previous offer to him.
But that amount is still far from what Vinicius is asking for, which is approximately €30m. As a result, Real are considering selling if the upcoming contract negotiations fail to make any progress.

Fermin Lopez was cruelly denied the chance to be part of Spain's World Cup triumph this summer, with an injury ruling him out of the tournament.
The Barcelona midfielder has now opened up on that painful experience, describing it as the toughest period of his career in an interview with Catalunya Radio (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
For Fermin, watching on as his compatriots lifted the trophy without him proved almost unbearable, and he admitted he leaned heavily on those closest to him to get through it.
"I got through it thanks to my family, my partner, and my friends. I needed help. I already had it before, but my coach helped me a lot to get through it," he said.

Real Madrid have agreed to sell left-back Fran Garcia to La Liga rivals Real Betis in a deal worth €4 million for 50% of the player’s economic rights, reports El Chiringuito TV.
By retaining half of the 26-year-old’s future economic rights, Real Madrid ensure they will pocket half of any transfer fee should Betis decide to sell him down the line.
Furthermore, the report states that Garcia has finalised personal terms with the Andalusian club, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract that ties him to the Estadio Benito Villamarín until June 2030.
The moving parts of the deal progressed rapidly after Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini identified the energetic full-back as a priority signing to reinforce his defensive flank.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is all set to become the next Barcelona player leaving the club this summer after Ansu Fati.
The German keeper is set for a loan move to Ajax, with Fabrizio Romano already giving his customary ‘here we go’ for the deal.
It is understood that Barcelona would cover the bulk of Ter Stegen’s salary, possibly reaching around 85%, while Ajax will pay the rest. This is not the kind of financial relief the club were hoping for.

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has added another caveat to this.
