NEW YORK — Jose Iglesias found a way to ignite the Mets clubhouse and its fan base as soon as he entered the fray during the 2024 season.
The veteran infielder infused a badly-needed energy and leadership with the Mets fading in the standings. By the end of the campaign, with his Latin pop hit "OMG" serving as the team's soundtrack, the Mets fired their way into the National League Championship Series.
Now, two years later, Iglesias is bringing that passion and energy into a far different setting than the baseball diamond, just down the road on Broadway.
The 36-year-old will become the first Major League Baseball player to perform on Broadway when he takes the role of Narrator in "Buena Visa Social Club" for a six-week stint starting on Aug. 27 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
"It's very smooth. The energy, it's an excellent musical. I'm surrounded by great teammates over there," Iglesias said before throwing out the first pitch ahead of the Mets' game on Tuesday at Citi Field. "They support me on a daily basis. They know this is totally new for me.

The 2026 high school football season is right around the corner, with the season kicking off on Thursday, Aug. 20, when Buena plays Castaic at Valencia High.
The Star unveils its annual preseason top 65 players in the area:
1. Isaiah Phelps, Pacifica: The Star's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, now committed to San Diego State, led the state in tackles with 232 as he powered the Tritons to Marmonte League, CIF-Southern Section Division 3 and CIF-State Division 1A regional ****** les as a junior. He's also a powerful running back for the Tritons.
2. Taylor Lee, Pacifica: The 6-foot-2, 189-pound quarterback, who committed to Portland State in June, broke the Ventura County records for TD passes in a single season (53) and single game (8) as a junior.
3. Alifeleti Tuihalamaka, Oaks Christian: The 6-foot-4-260-pound defensive lineman, who committed to USC in May, had a team-high eight sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss as a junior.

Neymar and Santos managed to get a close win over Remo to eliminate them from the Copa do Brasil, but it was the star's reaction afterwards that garnered attention.
Neymar came off the bench to set up fellow substitute Rony's goal against Remo in the second-leg of their Round of 16 tie in the Copa do Brasil.
However, he had a visceral and aggressive reaction towards the fans, Remo players, officials, and staff after the game that has since gone viral.

Italian energy major Eni has signed an agreement to acquire a 32% stake in three unconventional gas blocks in Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale formation, strengthening its position in the country's flagship LNG export ambitions.
The sale and purchase agreement covers the Meseta Buena Esperanza, Aguada Villanueva, and Las Tacanas blocks. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals. Once completed, ownership of the ****** ets will be split between YPF (36%), Eni (32%), and XRG (32%).
The upstream ****** ets will supply gas to the Argentina LNG project, an integrated upstream and midstream development designed to monetize Vaca Muerta's vast shale gas resources. The project is expected to support 12 million metric tons per year (mtpa) of LNG export capacity through two floating LNG (FLNG) units, each capable of producing 6 mtpa.
Eni said the investment aligns with its strategy of building integrated gas value chains that combine upstream production with LNG exports and marketing. The company has increasingly focused on FLNG developments globally as demand for flexible LNG supply continues to grow.
"Our entry into Vaca Muerta... strengthens Eni's ability to develop world-scale gas resources and convert them into competitive LNG for international markets," said Guido Brusco, Eni's Chief Operating Officer for Global Natural Resources.
