Sports bodies should prioritise routine screening and regular monitoring of elite athletes' mental health, the International Olympic Committee has reported.
The IOC says fostering good mental health and wellbeing must be done across the board with the timing of support critical.
A consensus statement from the IOC states screening and monitoring mental health should be done at predefined points and after significant events, and also address training and competition factors.
"While recognition of overt mental health disorders in elite athletes remains essential, situating athlete wellbeing within a dynamic continuum offers an additional framework for understanding the spectrum of psychological functioning in this population," said the IOC in a statement published online in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
"For example, elite athletes may experience transient stress reactions related to competitions, to various temporary setbacks that are a normal and common part of elite athlete life, or to intense training periods.

Today, women's football is a real sports phenomenon, followed by millions of fans worldwide, but it hasn't always been the case. It all started on the 7th of May 1881, when the first recorded ladies' football match took place in Edinburgh between England and Scotland. Come the 1890s, women's club football gathered momentum. Local women's football clubs were being formed (some by women factory workers) with the aim of competing in matches and competitions.
In 1895, Alfred Hewitt Smith and Nettie J Honeyball formed the BLFC (British Ladies Football Club). The president of the club was Lady Florence Dixie, a celebrated Scottish author, who ruled that lady players should wear practical clothing, including shin pads, football boots, and bloomers.
During WW1, with many of the menfolk called up for National Service, women were increasingly being employed in factories, many of which were dark and dingy. Sport was a way of offering women workers the opportunity to improve the standards of their health and wellbeing, to boost morale and increase levels of productivity.
Unlike modern ladies, they didn't have the opportunity to go online and check websites telling them about all possible ways of entertainment. Today, players can visit expert reviewers of, say, legal Polish casinos and choose the place to spend time with a favorite game. Back then, workers, whether men or women, chose among what was offered by employers.
Football was a popular choice, and in 1917, munitions factories created the Munitionettes' Cup, the final of which saw Blyth Spartans Munitionettes defeat Bolckow, Vaughan & Co 5-0. On December 5th, 1921, the FA banned women's football.

Nearly half of older American workers expect to rely mainly on Social Security for income in retirement, according to a new report.
To many in the retirement industry, that is a worrisome statistic.
Social Security "is not meant to be your only source of income in retirement," the federal Social Security Administration cautions on its website. On average, the retirement trust fund will replace only about 40% of the money earned in working years.
Retirement experts urge Americans to fund their retirement through multiple sources: Social Security, yes, but also retirement savings, investments, other income sources and perhaps a workplace pension.
"We would not recommend that anybody rely completely on Social Security for their retirement income," said Jessica Johnston, senior strategist for economic wellbeing at the nonprofit National Council on Aging. "It's more than likely to not be sufficient."

Felicia, the flagship brand of Andriani Societa Benefit, announces a multi-year partnership with Juventus Football Club, becoming the Club's Official Healthy Food Partner. The agreement brings together two organisations that share values, including innovation, the pursuit of excellence and a strong focus on quality of life.
Felicia and Juventus aim to promote increasingly conscious consumption habits, highlighting the role of a balanced diet as an integral part of an active lifestyle.
Felicia will be present throughout the Juventus ecosystem through a structured program that includes brand visibility, digital content and dedicated experiences for supporters and the Bianconeri community. The agreement includes a presence at Allianz Stadium during Serie A and Italian Cup matches, activities at the Juventus Training Center and the production of exclusive content developed in collaboration with Juventus Creator Lab, providing direct access to Juventus' extensive global social media audience of more than 190 million followers.
The project will also directly involve the Club's sporting operations. Felicia products will become part of the Men's First Team's nutritional plan, confirming the shared focus on quality, innovation and wellbeing. The decision is consistent with the brand's commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle inspired by the Mediterranean diet and biodiversity at the table, through products that are naturally gluten-free, rich in plant-based protein and whole grains and also suitable for athletes.
"This partnership marks an important milestone in Felicia's journey to strengthen its presence in the world of sport through the promotion of a positive and responsible approach to nutrition," said Marco Lentini, Marketing Director of Andriani Societa Benefit. "Working with an organisation such as Juventus means helping to raise awareness of issues related to wellbeing, taste, and the value of food biodiversity. It is the meeting of shared values and a common ability to create authentic connections between people, generations and communities.

Our ******* ysts just identified a stock with the potential to be the next Nvidia. Tell us how you invest and we'll show you why it's our #1 pick. Tap here.
Turns out people will actually buy more deodorant, not just pay more for the same bottle. Unilever just proved it, and Wall Street liked the smell of that a lot more than the profit margin underneath it.
Unilever reported first-half revenue of €25.6 billion, powered by underlying sales growth of 4.8%, ahead of expectations and driven mostly by volume rather than price. Volumes rose 4.2% in the first half, with price increases filling in the rest.
The second quarter ran even hotter. Underlying sales grew 5.8%, beating ******* yst forecasts, while volumes jumped 5.5%, Unilever's strongest quarterly volume performance since 2010. Management upgraded full-year guidance to 4% to 6% underlying sales growth, up from the low end of that range, alongside roughly 3% volume growth expected for the year.
Beauty and wellbeing, personal care, and home care carried the quarter, with Dove, Vaseline, Rexona, Lynx, Cif, and Axe all benefiting from heavier marketing spend and a major World Cup push. Food was the weak link, volumes slipping slightly, which is exactly the division Unilever is already peeling off into a standalone business through its deal with McCormick.

Jannik Sinner survived an almighty scare as he began his Wimbledon ******* le defence with a five-set comeback victory over inspired opponent Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court.
One month on from a seismic second-round loss at the French Open, four-time major winner Sinner recovered from an error-strewn start and an awkward fall to overcome his 50th-ranked opponent 4-6 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 6-3 after a tense three and a half hours.
Sinner opted against contesting a grass tournament in the lead-up to Wimbledon, with this his first match since an extraordinary collapse against Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo, whom he had led by two sets and 5-1 at Roland Garros.
Having appeared to physically shut down in the stifling Paris heat that day, Sinner's durability was thoroughly tested by Kecmanovic, and he was fortunate to escape relatively unscathed after a moment of genuine concern inside the stadium court.
There were gasps in the crowd when Sinner slipped behind the baseline during the third set and took time to return to his feet, the umpire heading over to check on his wellbeing.

Since Manuel Ugarte's £50.8m arrival from Paris St-Germain in 2024 he has not reached the heights anticipated during his time at Old Trafford and his last appearance was when he started the home Premier League defeat by Leeds on 13 April.
It was widely anticipated he would move on this summer, either permanently or on loan.
Now those plans are in doubt after his injury at the World Cup, with thoughts at Manchester United focused on the wellbeing of the player.
United have prioritised strengthening their midfield this summer, with the expectation at least two or three new players would be added.
The club have already agreed a £35m deal for Atalanta's Ederson. However, plans for the 26-year-old to have his medical before the start of pre-season training on 9 July had to be scrapped when Ederson earned a late call-up to Brazil's World Cup squad.

Chief financial officers (CFOs) across U.S. companies said they've been able to navigate the challenges of increased energy costs as a result of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, but that's done little to ****** uage their anxieties around future inflation, according to new Fed data.
A survey published on Wednesday by the Federal Reserve Banks of Richmond and Atlanta and Duke University's Fuqua School of Business surveying 530 financial executives found a growing disparity between CFOs' trust in their own companies versus the economy more broadly as the war in Iran ostensibly concludes. Executives reported being able to absorb increased costs, but feel more pessimistic about rising prices more broadly. While two-thirds of companies saw increased production costs last quarter as a result of energy price shocks, only one-third passed those increases to consumers. However, inflation was a growing worry, with 25% of firms naming it as their most pressing concern in second-quarter 2026, up from 9.5% last quarter. CFOs slashed U.S. economic growth projections from 2.1% last quarter to 1.8% this quarter.
The pattern of a widening gap between one's personal financial health and the broader economic health extends beyond the C-suite. The Federal Reserve's annual Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking released last month found Americans' overall financial wellbeing has held steady for years, with 73% of survey respondents saying they were doing OK or lived comfortably in 2025, compared to 75% in 2024. However, only 25% saw the national economy as "good" or "excellent," mirroring 2024's 28%, but falling far below the pre-pandemic 49%.
But with energy costs likely to persist above prewar norms, Atlanta Fed economist Brent Meyer suggested companies' concerns about the economy may catch up to their own bottom lines. He noted that while pass-through rates have remained low now, if oil prices continue to rise or remain elevated, pass-through would skyrocket to about 90%.
"This suggests that in an environment of sustained higher cost pressures, firms may be unwilling or unable to absorb any more costs," he said in a statement.

According to the Financial Times, the consumer goods giant has set its sights on acquiring Thorne, a U.S. dietary supplements brand. L Catterton, Thorne's private equity owner, has initiated a sale process that has attracted multiple potential buyers, of which Unilever is one.
The asking price, $4 billion, would dwarf the $680 million L Catterton paid to take Thorne private in 2023 — a deal that would yield enormous gains for the LVMH-backed firm. Thorne, which has been in operation since 1984, is on track for $650 million in annual revenues and offers products such as magnesium and omega-3 supplements. Since coming under L Catterton's control, Thorne has posted compounded annual revenue growth exceeding 30 percent.
Consumer healthcare group Haleon has also submitted a bid for Thorne, according to Reuters. A Haleon spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumor or speculation. Unilever and L Catterton both declined to comment.
Buying Thorne would add to a string of wellness purchases Unilever has made in recent years, having brought Liquid IV, Nutrafol, Olly, SmartyPants, and Grüns — the last acquired in April — into its portfolio. Unilever's wellbeing unit recorded double-digit revenue growth in 2025.
CEO Fernando Fernandez, who took the role in March 2025, has been reshaping Unilever's portfolio toward beauty and wellness. The announcement of a March deal merging Unilever's food division with U.S. spice giant McCormick wiped 7 percent off the company's share price, with shareholders voicing worry about how much debt the new entity — in which Unilever will own a 65 percent stake — would carry.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced comprehensive Return to Play Post-Pregnancy Guidelines aimed at helping female cricketers safely resume their careers after childbirth. The framework is intended to support players, national boards, coaches and medical teams as more women balance elite cricket with motherhood.
As women’s cricket continues its rapid professional growth and offers longer-term career opportunities, an increasing number of players are opting to start families while remaining active in the sport. Recognising this shift, the ICC has developed the guidelines as part of its wider focus on player welfare and the advancement of the women’s game.
Player health and wellbeing remain key priorities within the ICC’s strategy for women’s cricket. The governing body has also expanded its women’s health initiatives through its 100% Cricket movement, which seeks to improve education, encourage awareness and promote open discussions around health-related topics in cricketing environments.
The newly launched guidelines are designed to ***** ist Member Boards in creating their own pregnancy and return-to-play policies that align with local laws while prioritising player welfare. They provide practical recommendations covering both physical and mental aspects of recovery and reintegration into the sport.
Central to the framework is a six-stage model known as the "6 Rs" — Ready, Review, Restore, Recondition, Return and Refine. The process covers the period immediately after childbirth, medical ***** sments, wellbeing reviews, progressive training plans, cricket-specific preparation, a return to competition and ongoing monitoring once players re-enter the professional setup.
For more info:

The guidelines also highlight practical support measures such as flexible training arrangements, continued access to facilities and services, childcare considerations, dedicated ***** es for feeding or caring for infants at venues, and travel ***** istance where possible.
Dr. Inge said the initiative was designed to reassure players that motherhood does not have to signal the end of a cricket career. She explained that the framework gives Member Boards a flexible template that can be adapted to different environments while ensuring support is tailored to the individual needs of each athlete and her family.
West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher, who returned to international cricket after giving birth to her son in 2021 and is currently playing at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2026, welcomed the move. Fletcher said the guidelines would help more women pursue both family life and professional cricket, describing it as one of the most significant steps taken for the women’s game.
Reflecting on her own experience, Fletcher acknowledged that the physical recovery process was demanding, but said the emotional challenge of spending t

The confirmation comes after civil disturbances were reported in Belfast earlier this month. In response, Cricket Ireland worked closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and other relevant authorities to **** s any potential risks surrounding the fixtures.
"The safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in the series remains our highest priority. We continue to work closely with the PSNI, venue management and security partners, and are satisfied that the appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safe and successful staging of both fixtures," CI said.
According to the current **** sment, there is no specific threat to the matches, participating teams, match officials, spectators or the venue. Cricket Ireland also said it has received intelligence indicating that no protests or demonstrations are expected to disrupt either game.
"Accordingly, both Ireland v India T20 International matches at Stormont on 26 and 28 June will proceed as planned," CI said.
The governing body added that it will remain in constant contact with all relevant agencies in the lead-up to the series.
"We will continue to work closely with all relevant agencies and monitor developments in the lead-up to the fixtures. Supporters attending the matches are encouraged to follow official Cricket Ireland channels for any event updates and to allow additional travel time where necessary. We look forward to welcoming fans from Ireland, India and around the world to Belfast for what promises to be a memorable celebration of international cricket."
While India have regularly played limited-overs cricket in Dublin in recent years, this will mark their return to Belfast after nearly two decades. Their previous visit to Stormont came in 2007, when they featured in three ODIs against South Africa and one against Ireland.
India's more recent tours of Ireland have all been based in Dublin, where they played and won six T20Is across visits in 2018, 2022 and 2023.
This year's series will also see India play T20 Internationals in Belfast for the first time. Much of the attention ahead of the tour is centred on teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who lit up the tri-series final in Dambulla with a stunning 94 and recorded the fastest fifty in List A cricket. Should he feature in either match, it would mark his senior India debut.
The 15-year-old's growing profile has already made him one of the biggest attractions of the tour, with broadcasters heavily promoting both the Ireland series and India's subsequent fixtures in England around the youngster.
Stormont has a seating capacity of around 4,200, a modest figure considering the strong following India commands worldwide. The Indian squad is scheduled to travel to

A “rebuilt” mind, family and friends, and an innovative part called the Macarena. These are just some of the building blocks in Lewis Hamilton's resurgence at the front of the Formula 1 field.
The seven-time champion's breakthrough first win with Ferrari on Sunday, his first since 2024, left him second in the standings and cut into the overall lead of Kimi Antonelli, the driver who replaced Hamilton when he left Mercedes.
Getting back to the front has been a long and painful process and Hamilton shed some light on his journey after the win in Spain.
Hamilton said he'd trained harder than ever ahead of this season to keep up with younger rivals like the 19-year-old Antonelli, after an injury dogged him through 2025 and he started to doubt his abilities.
That paid off as Hamilton became, at 41 years, 5 months, the oldest F1 winner since 1970, but it wasn't all about physical fitness. Mental wellbeing has been central to his recovery.

The Princess of Wales undertook an emotional engagement on Thursday when she headed to Manchester to visit The Christie, a specialist cancer centre.
For her outing, the royal wore a bleu dress, and she was seen waving at staff and patients as she arrived at the cancer centre.
During her visit, Kate met patients being treated for cancer at the Oak Road Treatment Centre, even being present as one 'rang the bell', which signals the end of their treatment. The royal also heard about how they engaged with complementary therapies and how they helped them with their own cancer journey.
She also visited an art therapy room at the centre during a session, which was attended by those going through their treatment and those in recovery. Kate then headed to the hospital's wellbeing garden, meeting with the resident gardener, Phil Walker.
Her visit concluded with the royal heading to the Teenage and Young Adult Ward, meeting teenage patients who were in the unit, which contains amenities like a music studio, gym and social hub.
