Parnassus Investments, an investment management company, released the "Parnassus Growth Equity Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. During the quarter, the Fund (Investor Shares) returned 17.49% (net of fees), outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 16.74%. Holdings in Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors boosted relative returns, while Communication Services and Financials holdings detracted. For the year-to-date period, the Fund returned 6.17% (net of fees), outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth's 5.33%. The firm remains constructively bullish on U.S. equities and continues to be selective, valuation-sensitive, and focused on disruptive growth opportunities through active stock selection. Growth stocks advanced during the second quarter, as the Russell 1000 Growth Index generated strong double-digit returns driven by increased confidence in the durability of the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure build-out. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Parnassus Growth Equity Fund highlighted Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN). Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) manufactures med-surg products serving hospitals, surgery centers, physician offices, post-acute facilities, and nursing home sites of care. On September 15, 2026, Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) closed at $36.59 per share. Over the past month, Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) declined 4.23%, and YTD its shares lost 22.68%. Medline Inc. has a market capitalization of $42.22 billion.
Parnassus Growth Equity Fund stated the following regarding Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) shares declined as medical technology stocks broadly came under pressure. The company also faced near term concerns surrounding tariffs and higher transportation costs, though we remain confident in its long-term competitive positioning."
Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 52 hedge fund portfolios held Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) at the end of the second quarter which was 65 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Medline Inc. (NASDAQ:MDLN) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

While I buy most of my clothes from Amazon, when I needed a new wardrobe for a video shoot, my wife and I went on a tour of local retailers.
Since I needed shirts that would hold up well in hot weather, we went to Target and Bass Pro Shops, and as much as I don't like trying clothes on, I took advantage of the stores' dressing rooms.
I'm not alone in wanting to try things on before I buy.
"The opportunity to try on clothes and test products is a major driver of store traffic,
with 52% of consumers surveyed saying they go to stores instead of shopping online because of this. References to trying on/testing products surged 32% YoY on average at retailers and were up 58% at beauty retailers," according to a Chatmeter report published last year.
People, me included, like seeing what they're buying before committing to a purchase.

Bank of Nova Scotia (NYSE: BNS) is offering investors a nearly 3.5% yield. The average bank's yield is around 2.2%, and the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has a tiny 1% yield. If you are looking for a high-yield bank stock, Scotiabank, as it is more commonly known, is probably worth a close look. But the real dividend story is about consistency. Here's what you need to know.
Recently, Scotiabank made a major change in its business. For a long time, the Canadian bank had skipped the U.S. market, focusing instead on Central and South America. That differentiated it from its large Canadian peers, which had focused on growth in the U.S. Scotiabank's plans didn't work out as well as hoped, so it shifted gears. Now, like its peers, it is increasing its focus on the U.S., with a goal of offering its services from Mexico to Canada. Those three countries are contiguous and important trading partners.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
What's notable is that Scotiabank has made this shift without resorting to a dividend cut. In fact, the biggest impact that dividend investors felt was a one-year pause in dividend increases. When you look at the company's history, however, that makes total sense. Scotiabank has paid dividends every year since 1833, over 190 years ago. And, unlike many of the largest U.S. banks, it also didn't cut its dividend during the Great Recession.
Scotiabank's efforts to grow in the U.S. market will likely be a net positive, but the real story here isn't about growth. This is a slow-and-steady business that will help you build wealth over time. Dividend reinvestment would allow for powerful compounding, given the above-average yield and incredible dividend history. The real story, then, is consistency, which is powered by the bank's Canadian operations.

With a total return of 57% over the last three years, the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEMKT: SCHD) has been a boon for income-focused investors who value stability and diversification. Those who already own the fund should probably hold on to it for those two reasons.
That said, no investment exists in a vacuum. And potential new investors have a lot of other options to choose from. Let's dig deeper into the pros and cons of SCHD to decide what the next five years might have in store.

According to research from S&P Global, dividends accounted for a whopping 31% of the S&P 500's total return since 1926, making them a vital part of any long-term investment strategy. This might sound surprising considering blue chip stock yields tend to be relatively small. But these payouts benefit from compounding as they are reinvested into more shares that continue growing and paying more dividends.
And while returning cash directly to investors creates more tax exposure than other strategies like stock buybacks, investors can mitigate the impact by using a tax-advantaged account (such as a Roth IRA). Furthermore, the new cash can be invested in different ****** ets to boost portfolio diversification.

I was talking to some friends the other day about juggling college and retirement savings, and one of them joked, "What retirement savings?" But as someone who writes about retirement for a living, I didn't find the joke all that funny.
The reality is that far too many people neglect their retirement savings and plan to fall back on Social Security instead. And while there's nothing wrong with factoring those benefits into a retirement income plan, they shouldn't be the focus of it.

One big misconception about Social Security is that it's meant to replace most or all of your pre-retirement paycheck. In reality, if you earn a pretty average wage, you can expect Social Security to replace about 40% of it.
Now, think about your current expenses. Some might drop in retirement. But do you really think you can afford a 60% pay cut? If the answer is no, then you'll need a more robust income plan -- one that doesn't mean getting most or all of your money from Social Security.

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) repurchased no stock at all in 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, it spent $235 million. In the second quarter, it spent about $4.5 billion, roughly 19 times as much in three months.
At most companies, a repurchase is a routine capital return. At Berkshire Hathaway, it is a published opinion about price. The standing program, as described in the Q2 10-Q, permits repurchases "any time that Berkshire's Chief Executive Officer, after consultation with the Chairman of the Board, believes that the repurchase price is below Berkshire's intrinsic value, conservatively determined." Note the construction. Warren Buffett stepped down as chief executive on Jan. 1 and remains chairman; the filing now vests the decision in the CEO and gives the chairman a consultation. This is Greg Abel's call, and it is the first loud one he has made.

Barrick Mining Corporation (NYSE:B) shares fell over 6% on Monday, even after the gold miner cleared a major disclosed obstacle to its planned North American IPO.
Newmont Corporation (NYSE:NEM) consented to the transaction as part of an agreement resolving the companies' disputes over Nevada Gold Mines. Newmont will contribute its Mike and Fiberline developments to the joint venture, Barrick will contribute Fourmile, and Barrick Mining Corporation (NYSE:B) will be entitled to receive a $1.95 billion top-up payment within 30 days. The IPO remains targeted for completion by year-end.
The market's reaction was revealing. Newmont gained 3.8%, while Barrick fell despite being entitled to receive the $1.95 billion cash payment within 30 days. Gold also advanced during the session, making the commodity backdrop an unlikely explanation for the decline.
Investors instead focused on Barrick Mining Corporation (NYSE:B)'s operating results and the economics of the agreement. Realized gold prices increased 34%, but production was essentially flat, all-in sustaining costs rose 11%, and Barrick-defined attributable free cash flow fell to $141 million. The IPO catalyst is genuine, but the quarter intensified the debate over costs, cash conversion, and how much value the separation will ultimately create.
The bull case begins with the strategic importance of the Barrick–Newmont agreement.

If you're in the market for some reliable and generous dividend income, consider Realty Income (NYSE: O). It's not only a dividend payer, recently sporting a dividend yield of 5.12%, but it's also a monthly dividend payer. (Most companies pay their dividends quarterly.) A monthly dividend can be especially attractive to anyone planning to live off of that income.

You can expect that dividend to grow. Realty Income's last increase, announced in June, was its 115th consecutive quarterly increase. It has paid its monthly dividend for more than 670 consecutive months -- or more than 55 years!
Realty Income is a real estate investment trust (REIT) -- a company that owns a lot of real estate and leases it to tenants. Better still, it employs "triple-net leases," which require tenants to cover real estate taxes, property insurance, and operating expenses. Its portfolio encompasses more than 15,500 properties in all 50 U.S. states and parts of Europe. It's well diversified, too, with more than 1,700 clients in more than 90 different industries. Top industries include grocery stores, convenience stores, and home improvement stores.
The company is run very well, which is evident from its portfolio occupancy level, which was recently 98.8% and has never been below 96%. That points to considerable stability and a rather dependable dividend. This is not a stock that's likely to surge in value, but it should be a reliable, long-term slow grower while delivering regular dollars into your account.

Dogecoin (DOGE), the leading memecoin by market cap, is testing a long-term support zone that previously preceded one of its strongest rallies, raising hopes that its prolonged price decline may be approaching exhaustion.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 4, DOGE was trading near $0.07, down roughly 85% from its late-2024 peak around $0.48. The memecoin also remained below its major weekly exponential moving averages, confirming that sellers still control the broader trend.
However, Dogecoin is now approaching the $0.048–$0.063 range, as shown via the red zone below. This area is down about 30% from the current price levels, and it served as a major accumulation zone between 2022 and early 2024.
DOGE rebounded approximately 224% after testing the zone in June 2022. Its later return to the same support area preceded an even larger 887% rally toward $0.48.
The potential retest, which may come by the US mid-term election in November, raises the possibility of another macro rebound, particularly as Dogecoin's weekly relative strength index (RSI) may also decline below the oversold threshold of 30 by then.

Digital advertising spending in 2026 is expected to expand unevenly. According to the IAB's 2026 Outlook Study, overall US ad spend is projected to grow by 9.5% this year, with social media advertising growing 14.6%, well outperforming the broader industry. However, growth is not evenly spread across advertiser sizes, with larger consumer firms lowering marketing expenditure as one of the fastest ways to maintain profitability amid wary consumers and narrowing margins.
That's the backdrop in which Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) is placing a significant bet: while the biggest social platforms compete for the same narrowing pool of massive brand advertisers, Reddit is slowly opening the door to small and medium-sized businesses that couldn't previously manage the cost of creating a personalized ad campaign.
That shift became clear when Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) released a beta version of Reddit Community Intelligence on July 10, an AI-powered, free-form ad generator that provides advertisers with AI-generated creative recommendations customized to certain communities instead of forcing them to start from scratch. The tool is deliberately designed to make campaign creation easier for advertisers targeting community-specific audiences, which have traditionally found platform advertising too resource-intensive to bother with.
Wall Street research desks realized the structural significance of the self-service shift. On July 13, Citizens ***** yst Andrew Boone confirmed his Market Outperform rating and $240 price target for Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT), citing automated self-service technologies as a key revenue driver. Boone emphasized that lowering friction for smaller advertisers enables Reddit to capture previously untapped performance budgets, resulting in long-term, lower-funnel revenue streams.
Crucially, Reddit's advertising momentum was accelerating even before the Community Intelligence tool shipped. On July 10, Jefferies, drawing on conversations with agencies, added that Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) continued to gain share in social media advertising through the second quarter. Agencies said that this was due to the platform's large and growing audience, growing reach, and more personalized targeting, a read that preceded the Community Intelligence launch and shows the platform was already winning before the tool even shipped.

For a company that prides itself on the stablecoin it developed and manages, Circle Internet Group's (NYSE: CRCL) stock has been anything but stable lately. The recent slump in the shares has clearly appealed to the contrarian instincts of top institutional investor Cathie Wood and her Ark Invest team, as they loaded up on Circle shares last week.
These buys totaled $14 million, a considerable sum. Let's take a closer look at this and identify one very attractive quality about Circle stock that's sustaining its bulls.

Alibaba (BABA) may have just received one of the strongest endorsements any artificial intelligence company could hope for. After nearly two years of regulatory delays, Apple (AAPL) has reportedly secured approval to launch Apple Intelligence in China, and Alibaba's Qwen large language model will power much of the AI experience.
For investors, this is more than another technology partnership. It positions Alibaba at the center of Apple's AI rollout in one of the world's largest smartphone markets while reinforcing the company's growing reputation in generative AI. The timing also comes as Alibaba tries to convince investors that it deserves to be valued as an AI leader rather than simply an e-commerce company.

Greece's Article 5B offers American retirees a flat 7% tax on all foreign-source income for 15 years, covering Social Security, IRA withdrawals, and dividends.
A couple retiring to coastal Greece spends roughly $61,000 a year, about $17,500 less than the average U.S. household.
Retirees must elect the 7% regime in year one and fully sever ties from high-tax states like California or face double taxation with no credit offset.

Someone in their late 50s or early 60s has read one too many articles about the Algarve, run the numbers, and realized Portugal is not what it was five years ago. Rents in Lisbon have doubled, the old Non-Habitual Resident tax break for retirees is gone for new arrivals, and the golden visa route to residency has been narrowed. If not Portugal, then where? The answer, for a growing number of American retirees, is Greece.
