SOUTH BEND — It didn't take Teddy Jarrard very long to get some game action for Notre Dame football.
Thanks to the Week 2 scheduling of overmatched Rice, a 44.5-point underdog, Jarrard followed Noah Grubbs into Saturday's runaway win. He entered the game with Notre Dame leading 52-0 with 6:00 remaining in the 4th quarter.

The Green Bay Packers and tight end Tucker Kraft have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $75 million contract extension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Kraft's new deal, which runs through the 2030 season, includes a $26.5 million signing bonus and its maximum value could reach as high as $92 million. He is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.
Both sides have wanted to get a deal done, it was just a matter of whether an agreement could be reached before Week 1 or linger into the season.

The Mets are promoting pitching prospect Gary Gill Hill from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Syracuse, the team announced on Sunday.
Gill Hill joined the Mets organization as part of the trade that sent Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays at this year's trade deadline and had pitched well with the Rumble Ponies. In five starts, the right-hander went 2-0 with a 3.76 ERA (1.22 WHIP) and struck out 28 batters over 26.1 innings.

Here are some statistical curiosities that may have caught your attention, or not, as we hit the home stretch:
Brice Turang batted .175 with a .266 on-base percentage and a .247 slugging mark in August 2026, with one home run and three stolen bases (but two caught stealing). It was the worst month of his past two seasons and second-worst monthly stat line in his career, except for a bleak July 2024, when he batted .169 with a .221 on-base mark and a .191 slugging percentage.
But Turang's streakiness has been pretty noticeable over the past two years. Last August, he was a monster, with a .343 average, .398 on-base mark, .594 slugging and 10 (!) home runs. In July, though, he batted .209, slugged .302 and had one homer.
Monthly splits are obviously crude measures, but it's kind of remarkable how Turang has more or less alternated good and bad months over the past two years. His slash marks since the start of 2025:

At Neo Química Arena, Santos FC defeated Corinthians 1-0 in the Brazilian Championship. The match, valid for the twenty-fifth round of the competition, was played this Sunday (30), and Santos's goal was scored by Oliva. With the result, Peixe reached 29 points in the competition. The next match for Cuca's team will be on Wednesday (2), against Palmeiras, in the Copa do Brasil, at Vila Belmiro.

Initially it appeared the forward had scored four to finish the night, but after the match one of his goals was adjusted to an own-goal by Montréal. A stunning performance nonetheless.

Josh Jacobs was arrested in May after a domestic incident and on Thursday the Brown County District Attorney charged him with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property, according to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer. He originally booked on five charges.
The incident report, shared by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, has some disturbing details. It says that authorities have surveillance video from Jacobs' garage, and according to the incident report the video shows Jacobs throwing his girlfriend to the ground. She hit her head and suffered an injury, the report said. Then Jacobs took her phone while she was on the ground, and she struggled to get back into the house.

BENGALURU: Some spinners rely on guile and variety, others on subtle change of pace. Abid Mushtaq prefers a simpler route to success— hit the right areas, make batters play and wait for them to commit mistakes.
The Jammu and Kashmir leftarm spinner was at his methodical best against West Zone on Day Two of the Duleep Trophy at the BCCI Centre of Excellence here on Monday. On a red-soil pitch he described as his "favourite", Abid claimed a five-wicket haul to bowl West out for 187 in 65.4 overs.
North Zone, who secured a 64-run first-innings lead, were 107/4 at stumps, stretching their advantage to 171 runs.
Abid admitted he got "goosebumps" when he saw the red soil, a surface he has only started training on regularly over the last 3-4 three years in J&K. He made the most of the familiarity, producing a spell built on accuracy rather than elaborate variations.
The 29-year-old, who was also invited to bowl in the Australian team's nets ahead of the 2023 BorderGavaskar Trophy in India, kept attacking the stumps and forcing batters to play.
Three of his five wickets — Shivalik Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel — came via LBWs. Gaikwad and Urvil fell within three ****** of each other, leaving West reeling at 70/5 in the 28th over.
"I bowled at the stumps as there was a lot of help on the wicket. I always try to land in good areas and not give away runs. I also use the crease. When it comes to bowling in red soil, I'm confident," Abid said.
His figures of 11-5-13-3 in the first session summed up his approach. He gave the batters little to work with and had already castled Prithvi Shaw on Sunday evening.
Abid, who has taken 63 wickets in his last three Ranji Trophy seasons, kept varying his angle, bowling from both sides of the wicket without compromising on his discipline.
Musheer Khan (31), who showed considerable patience against him, and Shams Mulani (52) briefly stemmed the collapse with a 63-run sixth-wicket partnership. But Abid returned to dismiss Tushar Deshpande (18), completing his five-for.
Anshul Kamboj (2/38) and Arshdeep Singh (3/53) also contributed with the ball as North Zone tightened their grip on the quarterfinal.
At the adjacent ground, Shahbaz Ahmed produced an allround performance to put East Zone firmly in control against North East Zone.
Resuming on 100, the left-hander went on to make 167 as East amassed 467 in 112.5 overs. His innings built on the foundation laid by Sudip Gharami's 146 on the opening day.
Shahbaz then took 3/20 as North East were bowled out for 111, with Abhijit Sarkar returning 5/20.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery says forward Ollie Watkins' absence in the 4-0 thrashing at Brighton is a "question for him".
The 30-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for Villa's Premier League opener after Emery confirmed earlier in the week there had been offers from Saudi club Al-Hilal for the striker.
Asked if it was his decision to leave Watkins out, Emery told Match of the Day: "This question is for him. You can call him and try to get his answer.
"The players here wanted to play and we had two strikers with a small injury. The question on Watkins is for him."

For the first time in 364 days, the New York Jets have intercepted a pass. No, not throw an interception. That was something they did 13 times during the regular season and 2026 starting quarterback, Geno Smith, did 17 times alone while with the Las Vegas Raiders. This was different.
A Jets defender ended the interception drought – albeit unofficially – in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL preseason.

Mark Mitchell's potential path to joining the Kentucky basketball program passed another hurdle Friday, Aug. 21.
Brian Edwards, a judge in Jefferson Circuit Court, granted a temporary restraining order for Mitchell and other former college athletes Friday, according to Hans Poppe, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs.
Because of Edwards' ruling, Mitchell and the other athletes who had exhausted their college eligibility are permitted to enter the transfer portal and begin officially speaking with schools and coaching staffs. Mitchell has been linked to Kentucky and coach Mark Pope in recent weeks as the Wildcats seek to fill their 15th (and final) roster spot ahead of the 2026-27 season.
A 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward, Mitchell earned All-SEC selection each of the past two seasons at Missouri.

Aaron Judge has been out for the New York Yankees since May 31 as he recovers from a rib fracture.
The postseason is getting closer, and if the Yankees want to make a World Series run, they need Judge back in the lineup. He has been playing catch and running as part of his buildup, but on Thursday, Aaron Boone revealed he has started hitting off a tee, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
"It seems to be going well," Boone said, per Hoch.
Judge has plenty more hurdles to clear before he is back in right field, but if he can start hitting, then the Yankees could at least get him in the lineup as a designated hitter. There is still no timeline for Giancarlo Stanton to return, so Judge serving as the designated hitter is not off the table.

Eric Morris, the Oklahoma State coach, revealed this week that he recently shot and killed an armadillo after it caused damage to his property.
Speaking to reporters, the former North Texas coach, hired to rebuild the struggling Stillwater football program, described his overnight encounter with the armored mammal.
"My brain's going constantly and so ... I don't sleep very well," he said Tuesday. "I've had a couple of armadillo problems tearing up my lawn. Finally, a couple of days ago I just popped up at 2:30 a.m. because I couldn't sleep, and I thought it was a great opportunity for me to go outside, and luckily I found him."

At 37 years old now and on his fifth NFL team over a career entering its 16th year, linebacker Von Miller made one thing perfectly clear Tuesday at his introductory press conference at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif.
"I can still play football."
But as the eight-time Pro Bowler went on to explain, that's only part of the reason he was brought to Dallas.
"You can say what you want to say about my play on the field and what I've got left. But when it comes to being a great teammate, if there was a Hall of Fame for that, I'm going in the Hall of Fame, first ballot," Miller told reporters.
As it is, Miller is actually two full years younger than one of this year's enshrinees in the real Hall of Fame (Luke Kuechly). But the Texas native walks into the Cowboys locker room the second-oldest player on the current roster, with punter Bryan Anger beating him by just six months.
