Mobile payment apps such as Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App have grown in popularity in recent years. More than three-quarters of Americans have used these types of apps to send or receive money from individuals.
Yet despite the convenience and growing use of P2P apps, there are risks you should be aware of as well. In particular, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) warns consumers that storing cash in apps like PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo is a habit you should avoid. Here's why.
A peer-to-peer payment app is a type of digital payment platform that allows you to transfer money to another individual using a mobile device or computer. When you register for a P2P service, you start by connecting your bank account, credit card, or digital wallet. From there, you can send or receive cash to other users who are registered with the same P2P service.
Depending on the P2P payment app, you may incur fees when you send money. Other services may charge you fees to transfer funds to your bank account — especially if an international transfer is involved. Many P2P apps, however, offer free payment options for sending cash between friends and family members. Non-expedited domestic bank transfers may be free as well, depending on the app.

PayPal Holdings (PYPL) may be setting up for a contrarian opportunity. The digital payments giant has fallen sharply in 2026, pushing its shares into deeply oversold territory and making it one of the most oversold stocks in the S&P 500 Index ($SPX). Technical indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) suggest that selling pressure may have become excessive, with a reading hovering near 30 to 40, a level often viewed as a sign of excessive selling pressure, even as PayPal continues to generate strong cash flow, expand Venmo's ecosystem, and maintain its position as one of the world's largest online payments platforms.
While concerns about intensifying competition and cautious management guidance have weighed on investor sentiment, oversold conditions often create attractive entry points for long-term investors willing to look beyond near-term headwinds. So, let's dig deeper into whether PayPal's recent weakness represents a value opportunity or a warning sign of deeper challenges ahead.

House of Doge is pushing Dogecoin further into regulated fintech infrastructure through a new partnership with Paxos, giving the meme-born ******* et a broader path into consumer and enterprise crypto products.
The official corporate arm of the Dogecoin Foundation, along with merger partner Brag House Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: $TBH), said Monday that Dogecoin will be integrated across Paxos’ enterprise-grade crypto brokerage and custody infrastructure. Paxos powers crypto services for platforms including PayPal (NASDAQ: $PYPL), Venmo, Interactive Brokers (NASDAQ: $IBKR) and Mercado Libre, putting Dogecoin closer to distribution channels that already touch large consumer audiences.
The partnership does not automatically place DOGE inside every Paxos client product. It gives enterprise platforms using Paxos infrastructure the ability to evaluate Dogecoin support through a regulated custody, liquidity and compliance layer. For House of Doge, that distinction is important: the work is less about another exchange listing and more about making Dogecoin easier for fintech platforms to offer at scale.
