The Brooklyn Nets are at the point in their offseason where not much will be happening between now and when training camp begins in the fall. Brooklyn does not know its entire schedule for the 2026-27 NBA season, but it does know who they will be playing in the preseason and as part of the 2026 NBA Cup where they may have gotten lucky with their scheduled slate.
The NBA announced in the beginning of July what the groups will be within the NBA Cup and the Nets will have a tough slate ahead of them given where they are in their rebuild. As part of being in East Group A, Brooklyn will be facing the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, and Milwaukee Bucks, but there is a chance that the Nets could be competitive within the group.
The Nets (20-62) had the worst record of the five teams in the group with the Pistons (60-22), Raptors (46-36), Magic (45-37) were playoff teams with the Bucks (32-50) potentially making it to the postseason if Giannis Antetokounmpo was healthy for the majority of the season. To that point, Milwaukee traded Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat this summer for a package of players and picks so it seems like they're entering a rebuild of some sort.
Detroit should be the best team in this group once again with Cade Cunningham leading the way, but plenty could be unsettled by the fact that center Jalen Duren is yet another player experiencing the downside of restricted free-agency. Toronto could be better than they were last season if their trade for forward Kawhi Leonard goes through, but the investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers potentially circumventing the salary cap to sign him may not be solved until the season begins.
Orlando appears to be running it back with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner leading the way for their squad, but Brooklyn has made key moves of its own by trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle along with signing guard Keon Ellis and center Mo Wagner in free-agency. Ultimately, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Nets finish the NBA Cup with a 1-3 record with the potential of pulling off upsets over the Magic and Raptors.

Former New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey was one of the most talented players to ever wear Giants Blue. There's no denying that. He's also one of the most disappointing.
The 14th overall selection out of Miami in the 2002 NFL draft, Shockey was coveted by Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, who called him a "weapon."
And he was. Shockey could do it all. He was an All-Pro as a rookie and made the Pro Bowl in four of his first five seasons with the Giants. But he was brash and vocal, and his off-field demeanor sometimes had the Giants on their heels and shaking their heads.
In 2007, the Giants were headed towards a storybook ending, one which would see them knock off the previously undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Shockey, one of the Giants' key contributors on offense, fractured his fibula in Week 15 and was lost for the season. As per the wishes of head coach Tom Coughlin, he watched the game from the owner's box as the team he carried on his back for six seasons pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NFL history.
It did not sit well with him, and he decided to bypass all of the celebrations afterwards. Many said it was sour grapes and jealousy on his part. Little did anyone know, his Giants career was over.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has narrowed from 48 nations to just eight after four weeks of intense competition and 95 matches.
The group stage and knockout rounds have delivered unforgettable moments, dramatic upsets and emerging stars. Now, the remaining eight teams prepare to battle in the quarterfinals, each hoping to move one step closer to World Cup glory.
In the round of 16, all three host countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States – were eliminated. They joined other early exits such as Brazil and Germany, whose surprise defeats marked the first time in World Cup history that both will be absent from the quarterfinals simultaneously.
The eight teams still competing for the World Cup trophy are: defending champions Argentina, Belgium, England, France, Morocco, Norway, Spain and Switzerland. Out of these, four teams aim to add ****** les, while Belgium, Morocco, Norway and Switzerland are seeking their first World Cup victory.

After ranking the 32 knockout-stage participants, there were some upsets as the Netherlands, Brazil, and Portugal were eliminated, but many of the top contenders still remain alive.
Even those highly rated sides have been challenged to the brink so far. Defending champions Argentina needed a heroic comeback against Egypt to advance to the quarterfinals, while France were pushed to the brink by Paraguay and England were tested in the Estadio Azteca pressure cooker.
The Sporting News has ranked the remaining eight teams challenging for the 2026 ******* le, considering talent in the squad, performances so far, and their chances of lifting the trophy by the end of the competition.

Argentina’s 3-2 stunner over Egypt Tuesday was the wildest game of a World Cup that’s been filled with thrillers.
And the comeback from a 2-0 deficit late in the second half was the first of its kind.
Per Greg Harvey of OptaStats, no team in World Cup history has rallied from a two-goal deficit in the 75th minute or later to secure a win in regulation.

Uh, about that. Someone might want to relay such news to Norway's manager, Ståle Solbakken.
In a pre-match press conference, Solbakken noted that Brazil should be favored against his Norwegian side in a Round of 16 matchup on Sunday. This is, after all, Norway's first World Cup appearance in almost three decades, whereas Brazil remains one of the globe's most consistent fixtures in this tournament. However, Solbakken expanded upon those thoughts, maintaining that, in his opinion, this version of Brazil and this version of Norway are a lot closer on paper than anyone realizes.

At face value, I understand why Solbakken would say this. As Norway's manager, he is the team's chief motivator. It is his inherent job to instill belief in his players, who already understand they are considered huge underdogs to most in a match against a country with immense soccer success like Brazil. To be sure, Solbakken was also part of the 1998 Norway team that defeated the then-reigning World Cup champion Brazil in the group stage. So, he knows something about pulling off unlikely upsets and how you have to think about them.

Justin Gaethje is reaping the benefits of winning the UFC lightweight ******* le off Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 last month, which includes a recent visit to President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to celebrate his victory.

Not only did Cape Verde come incredibly close to pulling off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, but they proved to the world that they belong on the biggest stage.
Afterward, both Fox Sports soccer ******* ysts Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimović, legends in their own right, praised the tiny nation’s team and offered a poetic appreciation of their heart, passion, and accomplishments after the team finished the tournament with three draws, including one against Spain, and no regulation losses.

What happened at Gillette Stadium was a result not many people saw coming. Paraguay jumped out to an early lead and despite Germany tying the match and threatening a game-winner, it held off another score and emerged victorious in penalty kicks for its first knockout round victory since the 2010 World Cup.
There have been numerous upsets throughout World Cup history, but most of those happen in the group stage and ended up in ties. It's even more remarkable when elimination and advancing is on the line. So where does Paraguay's historic win rank?

In the tie between France’s potential last 16 opponents, it was Paraguay who beat Germany on penalties in one of the most remarkable upsets in recent World Cup memory.
The Albirroja opened the scoring before the break through Strasbourg’s Enciso. Having set up in a defensive shape from the outset, one of their first clear attacks saw Miguel Almirón release Matías Galarza down the right wing. His cross was met by Enciso, who directed his header towards the bottom corner of Manuel Neuer’s goal.
The Germans recovered after half-time, though, and eventually found a way through as Kai Havertz nodded on a Florian Wirtz cross past Orlando Gill to level the score. The ***** nal man nearly scored the winner with fifteen minutes to go when he met another cross closer to goal, but he was denied by a good reaction save from Gill.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side pressed on for a winner, but were taken to extra-time by a stern Paraguay defence. Jonathan Tah believed he had headed in the winner in the first half of extra-time, but the goal was eventually ruled out after a VAR check saw the referee rule that Waldemar Anton had impeded the goalkeeper.
In a dramatic penalty shoot-out, which started with a save by Gill from Havertz’s spot-kick, Paraguay eventually clinched the win at the third opportunity. It was José Canale who scored the decider, winning the shootout 4-3 and prompting wild celebrations on and off the pitch.

Bron Breakker lost to Seth Rollins in their Steel Cage match at Night of Champions. The match had many highlights, including Breakker getting busted open. Now that their beef seems squashed, let’s hope Breakker gets back on track in either a tag match with the Vision or maybe he’ll start chasing a ****** le.
C.M. Punk lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns in the main event at Wrestlemania. After that, Punk had some words with Rhodes about a ****** le shot before his departure. With it now officially Summerslam season, we could see Punk return at some point this summer. For now, Punk slips to ninth in my list due to inactivity.
Trick Williams defeated Ricky Saints in their U.S Championship match at Night of Champions this past weekend. Saints put on a beautifully wrestled match, which was met by Williams’ aura. Now that their feud seems over, we’ll see tonight who Williams’next opponent is.

The FIFA World Cup’s expanded Round of 32 continues Monday with three compelling matchups, as traditional powers and emerging contenders begin the single-elimination journey toward lifting the trophy.
The day’s action opens with Brazil facing ****** an in Houston.
